Jenifer will greet you with a big smile and lead you to your table. If dining in your car is the way to enjoy this delightful establishment then you know you can be safe with the cool big trucks and the eyeful staff who play family watches for you! So my family and I were traveling through Gustine when we decided to stop by at dennys. Once we walked in, we were greeted with the most beautiful welcoming. The service was AMAZING!!! The food was delicious! And the hospitality was great! Dennys is the way to go! Oh the btw the Restaurant was in the most cleanest restaurant I have ever been. Restrooms was in good shape. Don't eat here unless you couldn't care less how long you will have to spend in there. I stopped in here for lunch on a weekday while driving down the I-5. The place was only about one third full, so you would expect reasonable service. After placing our order, we waited about a half an hour, and then finally gave up and walked out. I don't think they had even starting cooking our food. When we told them why we were leaving, they acted like it was no big deal and that it happens all the time there. read more

Stopped at this Denny's while traveling from LA to Sacramento. Ordered a To Go order for my two children and I. My boys were happy and satisfied with their meal. Unfortunately they did not have the sauce I wanted with my chicken strip in which I asked for a refund, and even though it was done through an app the to go waitress was super nice and helped me out by giving me a refund via cash. I have stopped here an additional time as I make frequent trips up north and they never disappoint. I will be back soon. read more

HORRIBLE! Service not so great but the food was terrible. Had their "Fit Slam" breakfast which was suppose to consist of scramble egg whites with tomatoes and spinach, turkey bacon, English muffin and fresh fruit. The "omelette" came with just tomatoes, no spinach. Just as I was looking for my spinach, I hear the waitress yell to the cook "are we out of spinach?" Didn't bother telling me that when I ordered or when I got my breakfast. Turkey bacon was limp like a wet noodle. English muffin seemed like they just took it out if the package and threw it on the plate. Fruit had frozen strawberries in it (not fresh fruit). It's a DENNY's. At a very busy road intersection on a major highway. We came on a Sunday morning an hour after we were on a 5-hr drive. The Irishman loves him a good American breakfast so we basically ordered hash browns, pancakes, bacon, sausage, toast (he always says America offers too many choices of bread) as well as chicken-fried steak (try explaining THAT to an Irishman - that no, you don't get a piece of fried chicken with your steak), coffee, water, orange juice. Lots of food. It was busy, but we weren't in a rush and it all showed up eventually. Total was an astounding $17 plus tip - the Irishman grabbed the check before I could look at it but not bad for a meal that kept us stuffed until nearly dinner time. read more

I was looking for a place where my family and I could have breakfast on our way to SF from LA and we came across Dennys. I have been to many Dennys but have never been to a Dennys with such great service. Our family was delighted by how we were greeted like never before and our server was so great and attentive with us. Maria always made sure to offer any suggestions with food options and everything was perfect. The food cooked by Hermina and Julio was delicious and was delivered with super fast service. Food presentation was something that caught my eye as well, everything was plated so neatly and you can tell the food was cooked by order. Our pancakes were the fluffiest they have ever been, we left no crumbs! Just to make everything better, when we used the restrooms, we realized how clean they were, everything was recently restocked, no stalls were missing anything. You can tell Maria Elena and Emilia really do care to do a bathroom check every 15-20 minutes. There is great teamwork in this restaurant, all the servers were attentive with every table and cared for everyone. We are so satisfied with our experience and hope to stop by again on our way back! We ate lunch here on our way back to Los Angeles. This Denny's reminds me how a real American restaurant should be. It has the original feel, the layout is nothing fancy, there is a bar top for people to eat... usually for the truck drivers. And the food is good. Yes, this place is in the middle of no where. But there was still people inside having lunch. I ordered their Super Bird Sandwich (roasted turkey) with onion rings instead of french fries. I also had an ice tea to wash down the food. Nothing spectacular about the sandwich except it was enjoyable. The waitress was real nice too. She was very attentive to all the patrons. Obviously she knows we are not from the area... but she was really cool about it. Nice place to go to for a casual meal. Just don't have high expectations, are experience anything fancy there because it's a Denny's. read more

This is a conversation we overheard from the kitchen while eating our dinner at Denny's. "Overheard" might be a poor word choice, as the manager/cook and the waitress were talking loudly enough for the entire restaurant to eavesdrop. And if that exchange isn't enough to make you redirect your Yelp search to another rest stop ... there's more. My boyfriend ordered a soup as an appetizer, and a sizzling fajita plate for his dinner. I ordered a chicken sandwich with hash browns. The staff completely dropped the ball on the soup, bringing it over (along with a weak apology) only 5 minutes before we got our meals. Sitting across from the kitchen, we could clearly see my boyfriend's "sizzling" plate sitting under the lamps long before we got the soup. Thankfully, the food was good - albeit lacking its advertised sizzle. After our meal, we decided we needed a sugar boost for the remaining leg of our journey and ordered a strawberry milkshake & a coke float to go. We heard the waitress relay the order to the kitchen (again, everyone can hear what goes on in there), but somehow the manager/cook made the wrong flavor shake & put both in tall glasses instead of travel cups. After a brief argument between the waitress & the manager/cook, they were remade & brought to us. All in all, we spent about 90 minutes at Denny's. You would think that a diner at a rest stop would be accustomed to serving travelers. People who are trying to get from one place to another in a timely manner, with a destination in mind. If you spend over an hour at a rest stop, it should be because you're tired ... not because you're still waiting for your food! And between that and the soup/entree debacle, it was evident that this Denny's has extremely poor time management skills. But if that STILL isn't enough to persuade you to change your mind about stopping here ... What's the most important component of a rest stop? That's right: the bathroom. The women's bathroom was icky. Two messy stalls, with toilet paper scraps on the floor & a wet sink (what you'd expect to see at a bar bathroom, honestly). My boyfriend told me that although the men's bathroom was cleaner, while he was using the urinal a female staffer popped her head in - without knocking - to change the garbage bags. Some people have issues with eating at a Denny's but we do not. Decent enough food, usually good locations near a freeway etc... This Denny's, in Gustine, Ca, though was very tough to deal with. Much too long a wait to be seated. Hostess did not seat us with menu's, said she would be back with them and our drinks. Never happened. The waitress that showed up ended up being the only positive thing here. She was friendly, efficient and checked with us often. Unfortunately the kitchen was slow, the food mediocre and the hostess' would could not care, even when we were trying to pay our bill. I am guessing that there is not much going on in Gustine, but there must be better places to eat a little bit off the freeway than at this Denny's. We will not be coming back and won't be suggesting it to anyone else. Sometimes location is not everything. read more

I stopped here this morning on my way to work since I saw this Dennys had good reviews and many people in my area had told me the service was really fast. I was supposed to be at work in an hour and everything went by so smoothly that I got there early. Not only was my food ready in a really short time, it was freshly made, still very hot and delicious! My server Gloria made sure to check up on me and was quick with my coffee refills. She was so attentive that anything I needed was brought up to me right away. My order was perfectly served and I greatly recommend the lumberjack slam if you are really hungry. The pancakes were delicious and I got them with freshly cut strawberries and bananas just like my server recommended. I used the restroom right before leaving and it smelled so clean thanks to Maria Elena! You can hardly tell it was a restroom of how good it smelled! I really think this is the best dennys experience I have ever had and everyone should definitely try it out! read more

Had really good service and there was plenty of seating. Went at around 9pm less than a week ago for a late dinner on my way back to The City. There were a lot of menu items to choose from, especially from the new $2, $4, $6, $8 value menu. I decided not to opt for those since nothing appealed to my particular tastes. I decided on the country-fried steak. Came with dinner buns with butter, and my choices of cole slaw and onion rings. It took a while for all the food to come out at once but the dinner buns kept the family busy for a bit. The country fried steak was alright, needed a bit more sauce. The cole slaw needs improvement since the whole platelet (petri dish sized) seemed like watered down lettuce. The onion rings were tasty but the onions were falling apart after the first bite into each ring. Nevertheless, the food left my stomach fulfilled with the help of the rest of the table feeding me some of their Santa Fe Skillet, which was also pretty good. Restrooms are clean but may be hard to find since I didn't see any signage. Good thing the table was right by the restroom door so I didn't have to scout the whole establishment. read more

Hi friends, have you ever wondered why a restaurant like Denny's closes its doors for good? Whenever a Denny's closes, people often wonder why, and many say that the food wasn't that bad. Well, this Denny's should close its doors for good, immediately. The food is bad here, the manager just doesn't care. On several occasions, my aging godparents complained to the day manager about the deep fryer oil smelling rancid, the manager shrugged and replied, "that Denny's changes their fryer oil every Sunday." My aging godfather, who worked as a chef for over forty years suggested that Denny's should change their fryer oil out more often. The day manager looking visibly upset, shrugged, and walked away ignoring my godfather while he was speaking, so rude. About two weeks later, after hearing the concerns of my godparents, I ended up dining at the same Denny's. I thought, it really can't be all that bad. Boy, was I wrong. Disgusting food, and I can eat almost anything. It sucks for the customers, the clients, the workers, and the community that the management team at this Denny's does not care about the quality of service that is offered here. It absolutely sucks because I returned a plate of rancid food that was prepared far below par, and I was billed anyways. I was not offered a replacement meal, I was not offered a discount, I was not asked what was wrong with my meal. The day manager seemed entitled, arrogant, and unapologetic about the disgusting food and inhospitable service. Mind you, I have dined at Denny's twice a week for the last ten years, or so. I enjoy dining at Denny's a little too much, this location should be shut down by corporate office, immediately.
