The last two years, I've been coming to eat at this location when I past through town for work. However, this year I feel management has been greater then what they already were. I wanted to show appreciation of great customer service from a gentleman in the back and I believe a manger named Monique. Monique has helped me several times and she's consistent with being friendly and professional to myself and other customers. She's always made me feel welcomed and she even greets me by my name. We hadn't eaten at a Denny's for at least 10 years. We were so surprised to discover this place was great! Even with high inflation going on everywhere else, I ordered bacon, eggs and French toast (which was excellent) for $5.99. And the real grand slam was the waitress, Mardain. Somehow she managed to take on about seven tables all arriving at one time, several of them seating four or more people. I ride my Harley all over the USA...... My longest Ride was 29 days, 8600 miles and 13 States. Our go to place for Breakfast is Dennys. I always stop at this particular Dennys on my way home to Carlsbad, Ca. A year ago I stopped and met a wonderful waitress who was so pleasant and friendly. I remember her so I decided to stop to see if she was still working there. Amazingly there she was, but I wasn't sure with her mask on, BUT she remembered me and even the conversation. Apparently Elaine Carter has been at this Dennys for 27 years. It was like running into a old friend...... All I wanted was a refill of my travel mug, with hot coffee. The kid who was acting as hostess insisted that the ONLY way he could sell me a refill was to pour coffee into a paper/wax disposable cup, and then pour that into my travel mug. This is by far the worst Dennys I've ever been to, I didn't think it was going to be so bad should of know when you see a bunch of homeless around the place but still decided to give them a chance and was hungry. They took forever to take our order. Stopped in at 8:30 am. 2/3 of tables were full. 5 families waiting to be seated. Left in disgust after 15 minutes.

At around 1am, my mom and I were on a long drive back to SF. My blood sugar level was low, and couldn't drive another mile. We decided to stop over at Denny's 'cause there were no more establishments open. And I just needed to take a breather and buy a snack to wake up. I could barely keep my eyes open and was already leaning on the table. When I ordered an appetizer - the bacon with potatoes, the waiter and cashier LOUDLY discussed, "That's ALL she's ordering?". The cashier said "Hey, I offered soup and salad. But she doesn't want it. That's all she ordered." The server sighed and went to the kitchen. I ignored this. I also ordered hot water with lemon for my mom. When I got the bill, I paid it immediately and left tip. But when I looked at the receipt again, I saw that they charged me for the water and indicated that it was TEA. I wanted to leave it alone because it was just a few dollars, but my mom was angry because they were RUDE and DISHONEST. She went back to set it straight. They gave cash back, but still charged my card. It isn't the amount of money with the "TEA", but the principle behind it. I understand that the night shift sucks, but the servers (I only remember Daniel, and not the older cashier woman) were RUDE to us travelers, who just need to take care of their blood sugar levels or want a snack and not a meal. They did not have to discuss LOUDLY that that's all I wanted. Whether or not they charged us extra was an honest mistake, they should have STILL NOT BELITTLED ORDERS. read more

I stopped here for breakfast on Thursday 4/18/19 service was friendly and food was yummy. I forgot my wallet in the ladies bathroom, came back to look for it on 4/19 and the manager was so nice and gave it back to me, with all of my personal stuff in it. I wish I could give this place negative stars. Terrible experience. We visited this place on Sunday the 30th. I stressed with our waitress that I have an allergy to wheat so I need gluten free. Apparently the cook didn't understand and put bread on top of my order. I told her I was sorry but I couldn't eat it. She took it back and we had to wait 30 minutes for my food. At this point I was not happy THEN the manager came over to my table her attitude was that I had inconvenienced them, she was rude and dismissive. I never asked for anything other than food I could eat. Usually Denny's have been well trained on the gluten free issue but this one hasn't and clearly this manager thinks it's a hassle. Stay away from this place. The waitresses are rude, cut you off mid sentence and food took over an hour. All of that after we stood at the door for over 15 min without any acknowledgement (keep in mind we were the ONLY ones waiting to be seated) then took over 10min just to get waters on the table. The management of this Dennys is horrendous and it is run terribly. If I were the owner I would take a seriously hard look at this place. My visit was a couple days ago and I've been debating whether or not to write about my experience but I'll definitely never be eating here again so why not. My mom and I walked in and were asked by the host to wait 15 minutes for a table to open up, we agreed and sat at the waiting booth. After waiting about 7-10 minutes a group of 5 white males walk in and they were spotted by a waitress and were seated immediately. I was so confused. I looked at my mom, she looked at me and all we could think is the obvious right? They're white, we're brown (Mexican) they get seated first and we're still waiting for a table. What else were we supposed to think besides that this was a racial thing. I didn't even want to eat there anymore but my mom did so we waited another minute and the host tells us our booth is ready and as she's walking us over I ask her "Is there a reason why they were seated before us?" And she said that the waitress who seated them didn't know that we had been waiting first. Yeah sure, sounds about white. Anyway, I guess the host told the waitress that I was upset and she came to apologize to us and told us she'd waive our drinks for the inconvenience, I thanked her but honestly I was too upset to care for her apology. Would she have apologized if I hadn't of spoken up? I doubt it. I'm sure it would have just been swept under the rug. I wasn't going to write a review I was just going to shrug it off but if I stay quiet about this how many other people of color will they allow this to happen to? read more

Denny's #8791 this one, first we waited in line but that's not an issue and we get inside server took my order right away it's nice at first but later she came back saying my order is out. I change my order later she came back again saying order is out, still smiling at this moment, I order again they had me seat waiting for each order, only server yet again saying they're out. If your sold out why not let your customer know ahead of time, I don't understand why have me wait for each order that is out. On this stretch of I-5, Pea Soup Andersen's is my usual stop for food. So the last time I was here and hungry, I learned first-hand that they're not open 24/7. That left me with this Denny's down the road. Unlike most Denny's after 2 a.m., this one was nearly deserted. I didn't take that as a bad omen. After all, you know what you're in for when you eat at Denny's, and I wanted to get back on the road quickly. If I was in charge of central casting, I'd make sure that all waitresses at diners were of the pleasingly plump variety. When I'm sitting in front of a plate of greasy food, I don't want to be judged. A happy, chubby waitress helps. Continuing with the diner aesthetic, I want the short order cook to (a) look like he could kick my ass, and (b) have a mustache. Can't say why, but it just seems right. This Denny's scores on both counts, plus because I was sitting at the counter and the heat lamp was partially in the way, I could never actually see the cook's eyes, sort of like the mariachi in Desperado. The food was better than I thought it would be. My Mega French Toast Slam was on special. The French toast was sweet and not undercooked. The sausage was nothing special, and the bacon was so thin it appeared to be shaved rather than cut, but the hash browns were crispy (and the waitress asked if I wanted them crispy, which is a sign of a great diner waitress). 3 a.m. on Christmas morning is a terrible time to look for a cup of coffee or a rest room on I-5, particularly if you are a woman. This Denny's was open and genuinely welcoming. I walked in and dashed past the friendly waiter/welcomer to the ladies' room. A few minutes later, I emerged in a condition for polite conversation. The gentleman (all of 21, by the look of him) smiled, welcomed me as if I had not barreled past him looking for the loo, seated me ("Booth or table?") in the nearly deserted restaurant. Coffee took a moment, because he said what was in the pot was "old" and he brewed fresh for me. The eggs were exactly as ordered, the coffee was unremarkable, exactly what I wanted -- no gourmet delights, just some tasty caffeine and protein to wake me up so I could make the last part of my trip north without falling asleep. Grateful, warm, and ready to face the road, I returned to my car and headed up I-5. read more
