Stopped by on my way up to SF. it was around 8 or 9pm. It was moderately busy. Got seated and had the WEIRDEST waitress. I don't expect much from Denny's to start with. It's pretty standard everywhere you go. Greasy, unhealthy, short-order type of food. I just want to order, eat, pay and leave. Our waitress attempted to have a conversation with us, but then cracked jokes that were kind of rude and well...at this point of my drive, i was like, whatever. Just bring me my food. Hold the saliva. As we ate she seated another couple of guys and i overheard her say "okay, so take your time, i'm just going to stand here so it looks like i'm taking your oder...." WTF? The guys looked perturbed (spelling?)... In any case, the food was just meh, but "meh" is my expectation at Denny's. Paid, left and got the hey-hey outta Gustine. Never been a big fan of Denny's Restaurants, but a waitress Dulin S at this Denny's on I 5 in CA has to be the worlds most amazing waitress!!! My husband and I were passing through heading south on I5 in CA on Christmas Eve about 9pm when we decided it was time for some dinner. We were pulling a 5th wheel and Denny's looked like the best place to pull off that would have a place to park our big beast. We were greeted and sat the minuted we walked in, Dulin S was our waitress, she was so sweet and efficient. Got our drinks right away, took our order and the food came just about as fast. Yes it was hot and dam good! Dulin S seemed to know when we needed something and there she was. While watching her in action we noticed she was training other employees as well. I truly can not say enough about her, she was amazing. Thank you Dulin S for making our Christmas Eve a dinner experience to remember! You have to be the sweetest most efficient waitress we have ever had at any restaurants. If you happen to stop in at Denny's in Gustine CA make sure Dulin S is your waitress, you wont regret it! Normally a Denny's is a Denny's, but this place is really nice. After being stuck on the road with a confused and angry toddler, its good to be treated like a human being and not just a customer. The people here were nice to her, nice to me, and nice to my wife. It wasn't overly busy, but it wasn't empty or creepy either. We got a great deal of attention from our waitress and the baby got to keep the desert menu. I was especially impressed when the waitresses put down the plates out of reach of the toddler instead of right where she could grab it and put her hands within my food as so many other places seem to do. They took the time to know better and they cared. That means a lot to a father who cant remember the last restaurant meal he had that didn't have "baby hands" as the final added ingredient. read more

Does anyone need to be reminded that this is a DENNY'S?! As in you should come to expect less than mediocre service and food. Also this is out in the middle of nowhere and probably has its share of travelers on a daily basis. Order what's on the menu and keep it moving. I'm not sure why folks expect more than that. We stopped here on our way home. I know the deal. There isn't going to be anything extremely healthy for me here, but it's a hell of a lot better than starving and taking it out on some motorist out on the road. I ordered the Fit Slam : two pieces of turkey bacon, an egg white omelet with tomatoes and spinach with a side of fruit (a mini fruit salad for me). The waitress forgot that I wanted the fruit instead of the english muffin but ended up getting both. Terrible service and apparently bad management. They were out of most of the milkshake flavors, we had to ask for silverware, and everything took forever (ordering, drinks, food, and getting the check all took a very long time). What should have been a quick stop for food took over an hour. By the time our food came we were considering just paying for our drinks and leaving. I just came in kinda heat of the moment......it was like 330 and we got seated instantly.....drinks instantly.......ordered food which i altered a little and to no problems it showed up perfectly.......chesse burger with bacon over easy egg with all the fixings and peanutbutter and jelly......my wife ordered club sandwich and it was so F#&(@*$; good with the avocado ......i see 1 star reviews but honestly i dont see how.....maybe a KIND or POSITIVE attitude goes a long way.....left 20$ tip and will definitely be coming back.......only downside no booze :/ read more

This Denny's is atrocious. Shouldn't matter if it's on I-5 or not. Try to at least do the job or get out. Hosting was OK, not crowded; but the food is Terrible. I ordered meatloaf with mashed potatoes. The potatoes were runny, they looked like soup! The tea was made with the crap well water which smelled and tasted like rotten eggs from the sulfur. My family and I stopped here for breakfast on our way to Disneyland. From the hostess to the cashier, all were very pleasant and hospitable. The restaurant was well staffed today. The food was fresh and prepared to perfection. The women's restroom was presentable except for a couple messy users. Nothing gross. Only odd thing is there isn't a mirror in the restroom. We stopped in about 7:30pm. We were seated quckly and put in our drink orders. They brought all our drinks except my wifes water. Then took our food order. Finally my thirsty wife recieved her H2O. We waited awhile for our food. While waiting I noticed a differant waitress in the kitchen teaching a cook how to make what we ordered ( It appeared the main cook was the gentleman we saw going on break as we walked in.) So at this point our waitress was picking up her slack on the floor and delivering her food to guests. We started receiving our order one plate at a time. Mine was missing toast. Sons burger was a little over cooked but good. Wifes and son #2 got sandwiches with burned  bread. And the youngest of the bunch, my daughter didn't get her steak. (Waitress gave and excuse). My daughter ate fries off wife's plate waiting. We were all but done eating when her steak finally arrived. Steak was cooked perfectly (Head cook has returned at this point to save a sinking ship). We finished our meal. Full bellies. Paid our $75 and headed to our car to get back on the road to finish our drive back to SoCal. I would like to let other travellers know. Horrible customer service. Waited for 40 minutes for a table that they said would take 20 minutes. While 1/3 of their tables were available. After waiting so long i asked why they wern't sitting people. Lady at the counter said i don't know and walked away. She then came back and i asked her again why they wern't sitting anyone she said the cook were trying catch up in the back. I told her so you guys would rather have 50 people waiting in the real small waiting area with their kids. Her response was when they sit they will still have to wait a while for their food. I asked to be removed off the waitlist and walked out. I definetly would not recommend this location. Don't expect much. It is Dennys you are dining at. Came here Monday night. Everything that could go wrong, went wrong. First waitress spills ice tea on my wife. Gets my order wrong. Broccoli instead of fries, asked for gravy on the side, gravy on top of my potatoes, on top of that meat loaf and mash potatoes were cold. I guess the didn't microwave it long enough. Lol. Daughter ordered chocolate chip pancakes, got regular pancakes. Wife got omelet with moldy rotten tomatoes. Drink that was spilled was replaced with wrong drink. I guess it was just a monday. Beautiful American diner feel, nice country music, great customer service, best of all was the food. The food that we ordered was T-bone steak, Cobb salad with prime rib and mushrooms, and breakfast items. Everything came out as pictured, portions were big, and the food was delicious. Denny's is Denny's but this was a new height of a bad dinner experience. The diner was warm to start with and then we had two friendly flies bombing us the whole time. She got our order quickly enough but it took about 10 minutes to get 2 coffee, 2 water and 2 orange juice. Another 15 minute wait to get eggs & bacon with only half the bacon on the order and bread instead of hash browns. Another 10 minutes to get the pancakes and another 10 to get the missing hashbrowns ( we were done already). I had to ask for more coffee and she brought a whole new cup.... with somebody's lipstick mark on it. Ewwwww. No discount for this disaster. And just to top it off... no toilet paper in the bathroom. STAY AWAY!!!!!! My husband and I stopped here for breakfast on our way back from our trip. It was pretty packed so we sat at the counter. Our first clue should've been that I had to ask to see a menu as the waitresses walked by without acknowledging us. We ordered our drinks and meal and sat, and sat, and sat....as the place started dissipating we wondered where our food was. The waitress never checked on us or even checked where our order was, we were seated right in front of the cooks. The manager wasn't apologetic for the cluster f&@@ that was going on at his restuarant. After an hour, still no food, no waitress assistance, management intervention and to top it off- when I went to use the restroom one of the cooks was doing some kind of maintenance in the woman's bathroom.
