Staff here are friendly, there's a solid bit of history and kitsch in the very back on the way to the restrooms, giving character to what is otherwise a decidedly local, low-frills experience. The steak salad (was it a steak taco salad?) looked quite tasty but also ordinary so I skipped it and stuck with breakfast; the sausage and eggs were very much unremarkable, but at least the hashbrowns were nicely pan fried and the eggs were a large portion. Biscuit and gravy reinforced the former impression, but again, hard to complain-- did the job. People love this place, I'm indifferent. I've been here a handful of times. I've tried some breakfast's, burgers and sandwiches. It's all just "okay" to me. I love a diner, love a local business, I just don't care much for the food here. However if you enjoy it, you're in luck because the portion sizes are huge. They will pile on the fries. Just remember to bring your own ketchup because the ketchup here is runny. Those ketchup bottles have been married many, many, many times. The workers are great! Very friendly and attentive. The manager is very visible and stops by the tables to see how everything is. The service is very good. The ambiance is perfect for a local diner. I really appreciate the patriotic military touches. We were in Merced for work and one of the guys on the yard recommended Scott's he said they have great breakfasts. He couldn't attest to lunch, which is what we wanted, but decided to try it anyway. Waitress was amazing, Jordan. Very friendly and prompt, she checked with us after we had started eating to be sure everything was good. The food was wonderful! My coworker and I both ordered the diner burger with garlic fries and our boss got the fish and chips. The burger and fries were great! Big portions. The service well when the owner himself waits on your table sign me up. With this type of leadership the staff is a real treat ensuring you have all you need. Now the old adage of "don't judge a book by its cover" fits perfectly here, this is a neighborhood eatery with every piece of decor in this place has a story. Does the place need a little TLC ? Finally tried their breakfast and HOLY MOLY! California Eggs Benedict are 10/10. My pancake loving family said they have the best pancakes they have ever had in their lives! Biscuit and Gravy and the country potatoes are delicious! My husband gets the Big Country breakfast and can't ever order anything else its so good. Portions are huge and service is always friendly! We go almost every weekend. The only thing that could make this restaurant better is updating the bathrooms. They are pretty bad and I prefer not to use them there. Our first time visiting Scotts Diner. We had breakfast at this charming diner when we got into town. I had bacon and eggs with hash browns and a biscuit with gravy. My husband ordered the all meat omelet with hash browns and a biscuit. Both of us greatly enjoyed our meals! The food is fresh and delicious. Our server and staff were very friendly and made feel very comfortable and welcomed. The diner is decorated in an old school "mom and pop" type of vibe. I loved the casual and comfortable environment. I would highly recommend Scotts if you are looking for a good solid meal that is very reasonably priced. We definitely got great food at a great price. Scott's Diner in Merced is always a win, and today was no exception. We were on our way to a hike in Mariposa and wanted a Mexican breakfast that would actually power us through the trail--Scott's delivered in every way. We asked if they could do a special order: a burrito deconstructed, with over-easy eggs and the tortillas on the side. They were totally accommodating, and it was exactly what I was craving--fresh, filling, and seriously delicious. I went for the blueberry pancakes, and wow: they were enormous, fluffy, packed with real blueberries, and basically the perfect pre-hike fuel. And the coffee? Amazing, as always. I meant to take a picture of my food, but honestly I accidentally didn't--because everything looked so good that I dug in immediately. And even without the photo evidence, the presentation and plating were incredible, just like they always are. This place has my heart.
