Scott's Diner in Merced is always a win, and today was no exception. We were on our way to a hike in Mariposa and wanted a Mexican breakfast that would actually power us through the trail--Scott's delivered in every way. We asked if they could do a special order: a burrito deconstructed, with over-easy eggs and the tortillas on the side. They were totally accommodating, and it was exactly what I was craving--fresh, filling, and seriously delicious. I went for the blueberry pancakes, and wow: they were enormous, fluffy, packed with real blueberries, and basically the perfect pre-hike fuel. And the coffee? Amazing, as always. I meant to take a picture of my food, but honestly I accidentally didn't--because everything looked so good that I dug in immediately. And even without the photo evidence, the presentation and plating were incredible, just like they always are. This place has my heart. First time stopping on the way to The City and glad we did. Service was fast and really good. All of our Breakfast selections were served hot and came out of the kitchen fast. I had pancakes (really tasty) and husband had steak and eggs. He would have liked a thicker steak but flavor was great. Had to do a revisit of Scott's Diner and the breakfast was still plentiful and delicious. The food portions rival those larger breakfast shops and are served nice and hot. The service well when the owner himself waits on your table sign me up. With this type of leadership the staff is a real treat ensuring you have all you need. Now the old adage of "don't judge a book by its cover" fits perfectly here, this is a neighborhood eatery with every piece of decor in this place has a story. Does the place need a little TLC ? As advertised! Don't let the looks of the place for you, they have good service, they are nice, and they have good food! It looks like an all Mexican restaurant, but they serve American food. We had the beef stroganoff, and a low-carb turkey club sandwich. We had a darn good time, and I highly recommend this place. read more

It's crazy that I've driven by this restaurant so many times and I've never tried it. Well a few weeks ago my girl and I gave it a try and it's definitely one of the best breakfast spots to go to. Definitely feels local and the service is great but the food is even better!!! Love their pancakes! The staff and food were both excellent--personally, I really enjoyed the service here. However, the establishment feels very dated and needs more attention to cleanliness. I noticed several cobwebs around the dining area; a deep clean would go a long way in making the atmosphere match the great food. Baseboards are dirty also! read more

Finally tried their breakfast and HOLY MOLY! California Eggs Benedict are 10/10. My pancake loving family said they have the best pancakes they have ever had in their lives! Biscuit and Gravy and the country potatoes are delicious! My husband gets the Big Country breakfast and can't ever order anything else its so good. Portions are huge and service is always friendly! We go almost every weekend. The only thing that could make this restaurant better is updating the bathrooms. They are pretty bad and I prefer not to use them there. I also like separate boys/girls bathrooms, I don't ever want to share a bathroom with men/boys. read more

Our first time visiting Scotts Diner. We had breakfast at this charming diner when we got into town. I had bacon and eggs with hash browns and a biscuit with gravy. My husband ordered the all meat omelet with hash browns and a biscuit. Both of us greatly enjoyed our meals! The food is fresh and delicious. Our server and staff were very friendly and made feel very comfortable and welcomed. The diner is decorated in an old school "mom and pop" type of vibe. I loved the casual and comfortable environment. I would highly recommend Scotts if you are looking for a good solid meal that is very reasonably priced. We definitely got great food at a great price. We came here for a Labor Day brunch and saw them handle the most chaotic rush - beautifully! The service was pleasant and attentive the whole time. The owner was there helping out and was exceptionally friendly. It's a humble, tiny, little joint by the freeway, but it's always clean. The booths are comfortable. The TV play old episodes of Scooby Doo and funny animal videos. They keep the place cool - even on very hot days! The Benedict never disappoints (I've had it a few times) and it's available all day, as is the whole menu and then some! I tried their breakfast burrito and could only finish half because it was so filling. It was very delicious, but my mistake was taking it to go and eating it back in my room. Don't! It needs to be eaten immediately (I mean SOME cooling is ok) so you can feel your eyes roll back in your head with delicious satisfaction. The pico salsa was delicious too! While the service was friendly, the food was just okay. I had been wanting to stop by for a while since I heard great things about it, so maybe I was too hyped and expected more. I ordered the omelette with all the meats (idk the name). I didn't like the texture of the egg. Also, they charge like $3-5 to add fruits to your pancakes. That alone would buy them a good sized bowl of pre sliced fruit at Raleys. That definitely soured the experience. I may go back to give it another try. I have zero negatives the food was delicious and when I order biscuits and gravy I expect them to be hot, gooey, well seasoned, fluffy pillows of heaven and these were it! perfect. We walked in and they tell you, where ever you want. So we sat down, she brought our menus and took our drink orders. And looked over the menu. The food was hot and good. My wife ordered a burger. We stopped here on our way from LA to Sacramento to visit family. It was conveniently right off the freeway. It's a good size diner with some interesting, nostalgic decor. We were greeted and seated right away. The server was great. The place was busy but she was very pleasant and took the time to listen to my mom talk about the decor as she reminisced. All the menu items sounded so good! My mom and I both got the eggs Benedict and potatoes along with fruit. It was a good size serving and delicious! The potatoes so the best I've ever had.
