Burger and fries
Alaina S.

We went here a few times during our visit to Merced. The first visit was for breakfast which was really good. I was very pleased that they were able to make me an iced latte. And the selection of pastries was mouth watering. I highly recommend the pumpkin bread. Not sure if they offer it as a side for breakfast all year but when they offer it, just get it. So gooood! Second visit was for lunch. The burger was decent. Not the best burger I have had but it did the job. Their sandwiches looked amazing. If I had to do lunch over again I would get one of the sandwiches. And of course I got the pumpkin bread on the side for lunch as well lol. Our friend that recommended this place mentioned that the courtyard is super cute. It was not great weather during our visit so we didn't get to experience that. Maybe next time!

All I have to say is OMG!!! The pastries and breakfast here are amazing. I basically love anything churro related, so when I saw a churro cheesecake bar.....um yes please!!!! I also love eggs Benedict, which did not disappoint. It was raining the day of our visit, but they have a wonderful little courtyard to sit outside in. And service was spot on, very accommodating with any adjustments to the menu items you need.

Grilled Vegie sandwich with crinkle cut fries.

Just needed a bite to eat while passing through on our way out of town. This popped up on the map. Never heard of it.. such a cute place outside and inside. Nice selections of bakery items! We were greeted promptly and seated. Their menu is a great selection of sandwiches, salads, burgers. My husband had the Salmon salad 2.0, I had a grilled vegie sandwich on focaccia bread. Got the food fast. We were shocked at the size of the salad! It was plated beautifully! My sandwich was delicious. Only tiny complaint.. I wish there were more vegies on it. The fries were crazy good and crispy! Crinkle cut.! There are other options for your sides. I got a piece of pumpkin roll to go. Had to take a bite as we were leaving.. it was divine!!! I can't wait to stop again. The ladies were so attentive and fast. Please stop by if you're in Merced.

Mediterranean chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries

I was in town visiting and wanted to get brunch. I found Toni's through a Yelp search with great reviews. Was seated outside since it was nice and the restaurant was pretty busy. Got the Mediterranean chicken sandwich with a side of sweet potato fries and blackberry iced tea. My friend ordered the breakfast burrito. It was hard to choose since all the items on the menu looked really good. Our waitress also let us know that the size of the dishes are fairly large and if we wanted, some items keep well to the next day if we couldn't finish. I was amazed by how large our plates were. I don't regret my decision for the Mediterranean chicken sandwich. It has feta, chicken, pesto, sun dried tomatoes and spinach on a focaccia bread. Also got ranch and a sweet chili dipping sauce to go with my fries. The chili sauce was an interesting combo to dip with the fries but I'm a sucker for ranch, and appreciated the waitress for providing me with dipping options! The fries were large and crispy which is nice as some places make them mushy even after they have been sitting for awhile on the plate. They definitely held up as I was finishing my sandwich. My friend's breakfast burrito was pretty large and filling as well. She enjoyed her meal and didn't have any complaints. I can see why so many love this place. Great selections of food options for brunch and lunch which includes light, medium and heavier fares. I forgot to note down the name of our waitress but she was attentive, knowledgeable and didn't make us feel rushed to eat & pay. The atmosphere was just nice, inviting and relaxing for Sunday. Next time when I'm in town again, will make sure to stop by for a visit.

I am so glad I was finally able to give Toni's a try! I went on a Saturday afternoon and even though it was a little busy, I was not disappointed. There are plenty of seats inside and outside. We decided to sit outside and it was beautiful. There is plenty of shade so you do not feel the heat at all. The breakfast burrito was bomb! I got it with both chorizo and sausage, but I liked the chorizo more. The cheese crust on the outside makes it different from other burritos. I just wish it came with a spicy aioli or something.

I've been to numerous brunch spots in the area and this was by far the best. The breakfast burger was flavorful and delicious. I also order the Tri tip sandwich, which was delicious. The country potatoes weren't the best they don't taste homemade but were decent. The portion sizes are ginormous! The services was amazing, they checked on the table and brought the food out quickly. The ambiance of the place was cute and hipster vibes. Overall, would recommend.

Hearty Courtyard Breakfast

This place is a gem in Merced. It is conveniently located near Main Street and the outside is basically an oasis away from the city. The food is good and the pastries are even better!

The chilaquiles were dry. But service was very nice. Maybe I need to try something different in the menu.

Do they offer gluten-free pancakes, GF waffles or GF French toast?

Best advice is to call them directly. They will be great at answering your question.

On Saturdays, what's the time cutoff between breakfast and lunch menus?

I think they are in the process of making some changes about this. Last time I went, mid October 2024, we ordered breakfast around 10:45am and waitress mentioned they may open it all day soon. Long time coming so I hope they do.

You could easily share them between two people and they let you choose a sauce for the pancakes, whether that's syrup Nutella or condensed milk. The espresso shots were actually really good. I was shocked because they are literally shots of espresso. They are not alcoholic unless you ask for alcohol in them. This spot actually offers complementary soup before your meal. For us Mexicans, it's called Sopa de Fideo. This soup was actually authentic, and it was really flavorful and good and was basically an appetizer to the breakfast. The espresso shots did come with a side of bread. Personally, I'm not a big person on espresso by itself however, these espresso shots were really good! Now the actual service here was great. Our waiter was attentive She was constantly refilling our water cups and she was able to give us recommendations for what to eat. Also I will add her recommendations were spot on. The inside of this restaurant is really aesthetically cute. There's a bunch of green anywhere outside. They have a cute patio area where you can eat. If you decide to do that! Anyways, I would definitely come here again. It was reasonably priced and it was really good for a breakfast spot. I will say that and the soup was a nice touch because I love soup!

Wait staff was really nice. She managed both patio and inside tables on her own before another person came in. Recommend!

Vibe felt like they'd put some money in to the remodel and upkeep, leading to a bright, contemporary vibe that managed to preserve the original feel. Was here for a vendor event, where the extensive beer selection, accessed by self-service RFID cards, worked better in theory than reality. They measure the pours at each machine and it's quite interactive, but it felt like a bunch of the kegs were empty (so the corresponding dispensers were not working), and there were definitely some issues with the RFID system that they, to their credit, did get sorted out. Chips and guac are good and hard to mess up, the carne asada tacos were very good, the chicken tacos were pretty forgettable. 3.5 stars. Tempted to rate higher but they seem to promise a bit more than they delivered.

Today I enjoyed the Spanish Omelet with sweet potato hash and an iced vanilla latte. Absolutely delicious! On my last visit, I had the tomato bisque soup and the Beet Salad and it was just perfect for a healthy, perfectly filling lunch, in the middle of my "busy work day". The service is exceptional from the moment that you first walk in the double doors, until you are seated. On both visits I was greeted by the Host, Louie. He is very welcoming and accommodating, offering me a beautiful window seat at my visit, and also bringing me water before my servers came to my table. Both of my servers were exceptional! Olivia took care of me when I came for lunch, and Dayan served me today at breakfast. They both know the menu well and recommended the menu items that I enjoyed. They also made my Iced Lattes to perfection! I need to come back for dinner on my next visit in town. The decor of The Rainbird and it's sister restaurant with to-go options, Native Son, are so special and unique to the historic times reflected on Main Street in Merced. Both restaurants are located inside El Capitan. I've heard this Historic Hotel is also stunning, so if you're coming into Merced or driving through the Central Vallley, headed "somewhere", stop by Rainbird or Native Son, and if you need a break from the drive, you can stay at El Capitan!

I wasn't very hungry, so I opted for a bowl of soup with a side of cornbread and a slice of pie to go. The soup was hearty and plentiful. I could have gone for a cup instead, but instead took what I couldn't eat to-go and enjoyed it later. The corn bread was delicious--slightly sweet, and moist enough to not fall apart when I cut into it with my fork. I usually love butter with corn bread, which they offered me, but it didn't need it. I wasn't sure which pie to get-they have so many to pick from. Checking out the options in the bakery case didn't help because they all looked so beautiful. I ended up selecting peach, and it was amazing. The peaches were perfectly caramelized but still maintained their texture. The bake of the pie brought out their ultimate peachiness. The crust was just the right thickness. Even though it was a cold slice, the crust remained flakey. The cafe had ample seating. Service was attentive, but not overbearing. Pricing is on the high end, but I'm not sure how much that is because food is so expensive now-a-days. I was a bit surprised to see sandwich combos (with a side) all starting at around $20, and going up from there. It was after 2 in the afternoon, so the bakery had several 50% off boxes of baked goods to select. Four large cookies for I believe $12 or so (I could be wrong). There weren't too many options left in the bakery cases. I would love to see what this place offers when it first opens. Stay tuned for an update once I get that chance.
