Near Freeway and Highway you could find typical American Food. I ate medium sirloin steak (ok) with French fries (bad). Salad bar was ok, incredible with sweet cream for topping. Service is friendly, style typically, prizes ok. If you are guest in MOTEL 6 you get a discount.

T-bone steak, eggs, home fried potatoes, also came with bread (not pictured) for 12.99

I wasn't expecting much from this diner but i was impressed. the food was pretty good and our server, Shea, was nice & friendly. My mom, dad, & I ordered the 12.99 special for the t-bone steak, it comes in breakfast or dinner. we chose breakfast and the steak came with eggs, your choice of potatoes (hash or home fried), and some bread and a beverage. My boyfriend ordered the country fried steak with mashed potatoes. My sister ordered kid's grilled cheese and just fries for my son. We all enjoyed our meals. My boyfriend did mention that the salad/soup bar didn't look appetizing. But other than that the food was pretty good.

Country fried steak with a little twist.

They have a lovely outdoor area perfect for watching the sunset and gazing into the lush greenery that surrounds the restaurant. We sat inside and the decor gave a homey, almost hole-in-the-wall vibe. There's nothing particularly fancy about the interior of the restaurant, but every member of the staff makes you feel like a guest at their table. We started off with a cold bottle of sauvignon blanc and tried a few appetizers: the bruschetta, mac and cheese, and steak bites. Everything was flavorful and cooked to perfection! Steaks are their specialty at The Grove and are procured from a local cattle rancher. Each piece is specially hand-cut. My husband and I each had the ribeye special and it didn't disappoint. The portions were huge and we could have easily shared a plate. Their menu overall is extensive and has something for everyone - lamb, steak, chicken, fish. We had a great time, enjoyed the amazing hospitality, and can't wait to come back!

Being able to enjoy a full meal without completely extortionary prices is a rarity in today's world - and quite frankly if you want to get it in California, you probably need to get it driving up and down I-5. Not sure where else you can do it. The set menu is pretty simple. You pick your entree, say what side dishes you want, and they're off to the races with a full-course meal for you by providing family-style sides - namely salad, a lamb soup (fantastic!), baked beans, even a quick easy dessert at the end. Also, a house wine, which I honestly can't judge in terms of quality, but it certainly isn't /bad/ (ie, it's drinkable). As for my review, the main entrees I've had have generally been decent. I've had the tri-tip and the lamb chop and they both have come out decently seasoned, decently cooked. My thoughts on the side dishes: 1. The lamb soup is definitely the best. It's super flavorful, super tender, the meat really falls apart in your mouth. Honestly, the lamb soup might even be better than the actual lamb entrees. 2. The vegetable soup is basically just fine. It's nice and hearty, but honestly not super memorable (in either direction). 3. The salad is probably my least favorite entree simply because it always has too much dressing and is a bit too "rich" for my liking. I've actually found that it tastes pretty good though if you eat it on top of the bread. 4. Baked beans - basically hearty and good with the generous parmesan cheese they put over it. I'm a fan. My actual certified Gamer Pro-Tip is to toss tabasco sauce into it - it definitely balances out the parmesan better. 5. Potato salad - I don't actually think too memorable besides being adequate. Definitely filling. Anyways, the amount of food and diversity of dishes you get is crazy - and it's remarkably rare to see this kind of cuisine at this price point. Finally, there's honestly just not a lot of competition in the "places to eat driving up and down between Los Angeles and the Bay Area." If I had to think of any changes, I really just think they need slightly less dressing on the salad! No complaints otherwise!

The other location in Buellton closed a while ago so I think this maybe the only one left. Could be the original but I'm not sure. Just off the 5 heading north. We stopped by for a quick bite before heading back on the road. Mid week which wasn't that busy. It's been so long ago that I didn't remember what the inside looked like. As we had our little pup with us, they were able to accommodate us. There's three entrance from the front area. Main being the one that leads you to the restaurant. Another is from the gift shop side and we also noticed people coming in from the side of the bar. One side is the restaurant which we looked at but ended up at the bar section. Which happened to be happy hour happening. Didn't know they had that to offer. Bar area was pretty quiet when we were there but it did pick up. There's also patio seating right outside there. Main menu pretty much has as everything but we just opted for some happy hour bites for now. Drink special was offered both for draft and bottle as well as cocktails and wine. Food menu, they were limited on that but the usual were offered. Both cup or bowl of the famous soup was available. Half order of the potatoes skin, onion rings and wings were available as well as the quesadillas. Soup was decent but could have been hotter. Onion rings, and the wings were ok. Good nothing major to rave about. Both served with ranch sauce. I also picked up some dessert from the counter which looked great. Happy hour items were decent for the price. The service for the whole place was great. All The staff and waitress were very friendly and helpful. Our waitress who was also the bartender was a major doll. She was very sweet. As well as all the ladies on the restaurant side. Very accommodating to us. Overall, it was a cute stop off for a quick bite. Cute gift shop that's worth a wandering around. Plenty of parking available.

Outside there is a photo op and the building looks really cool. Inside, you can find all things Danish. However, I was sad to find the shop was so much smaller than the pictures on Yelp show. Everything is connected inside - the shop, bakery, restaurant, bar, and restrooms. The restaurant is huge and there's also an eating area at the bar and a back patio, although it was dusty and cramped and I don't think many people use the patio seating. They are dog friendly and the bartender allowed us to sit in a corner of the bar with our two dogs for our dinner. We also were able to walk them around inside the shop. Split Pea Soup 3.5/5* The soup itself is boring. There's a grainy texture, good flavor, but blah. You definitely need to order the toppings to go with it, which is a weird combination of stuff that somehow makes the soup so much better. You get cheese, sliced ham, bacon, scallions, and croutons but the crunchy green onions and bacon are what makes the soup pop. It feels like eating a healthier version of chili. Country Fried Steak 2/5* Not your typical country fried steak. The batter on this is thin and isn't very textured with crunchy edges. It was like a sad limp piece of fried patty. The steak had good seasoning but the batter really did it no justice. Hashbrowns were average. The scrambled eggs were fluffy and English Muffin was perfectly toasted. I do like that they give you a whopping amount of whipped butter for your toast! The bakery had some good looking pastries. The whole experience reminded me of a piece of Solvang. Great rest stop for something different. Plus, the bathrooms are huge and clean.

The food was always top notch! After the first ownership change, it seemed to have lost it's value a bit. I went last year and I'm not sure who was the owner at that time, but it seemed to be back up to par. A few weeks ago, some girlfriends and myself stopped by for dinner and drinks. My friend wanted an indigeny and we were told they were out and that the menu was most likely inaccurate regarding beers, due to how often they change them. She wanted a cider and was told dustbowl strawberry margarita is a cider. It is in fact a seltzer and not what she wanted. I asked for a mango mojito and was told they were out of mint. I'd decided to order anyway and when the drink arrived, it was not flavored at all. I asked if it was mango and he said no and went to change it, saying the bartender got mixed up. While it was better as mango, a mojito needs mint. One of my friends ordered fries and what came to the table was not what we would consider fries. It was slices of potato and I didn't find it to have much seasoning. Another friend ordered arancini and an artichoke, while the last friend ordered arancini with tomato sauce on the side. Her arancini arrived with the tomato sauce on the bowl and not on side as requested and the waiter took it back to fix it. The artichoke was not cleaned, leaving the choke (fuzzy part) in the middle and my friend had started to eat it. At $18 for an artichoke, it should be cleaned correctly. The anancini were tasty and I enjoyed both the tomato and the pesto sauce that accompanied it. Before we ordered our mains, the waiter came back to say they were out of burgers and the cut of steak for both the black and bleu and the Jack Daniel's steaks, but could sub a ribeye instead. Ribeyes were market price vs the $37 of those 2 items. I was going to get the black and bleu, but then decided I would try to fish of the day. It was a white fish with a cream sauce and baby shrimp over mashed potatoes and green beans and I thought it was done very well. The fish was flaky, the mash creamy and the green beans had just enough bite! I ended up ordering another drink, but opted for wine to make it more simple. One of my friends had the chicken fettuccine Alfredo and she thought it was OK. While I had hoped for a better experience, I will probably return to see if things are the same or they were just having an off day.

Ambiance - 3/5 I feel like it used to be a steak house in its past life but was bought out and it became a Mexican/Steak restaurant. There seems to be a lot of history about this place, which I love. I love the western feel and all the old pictures. However, I think because of the mesh of cultures, there's a bit of an identity crisis going on. There were some tropical birds in between the taxidermy buffalos Service - 2.5/5 Our server was there on her scheduled day. Anything extra you ask of her, like some lemons, don't count on it. She asked "is there else anything I can get for you?" But never came back We tip based on service and she's lucky we were feeling generous because her service wasn't worth the $20 tip. We would have flagged her down but it seemed she avoided our table like the plague just up until we were ready to pay. A coincidence? Maybe. But she never even asked us how our food was. Food - 2.75/5 Tortillas are handmade. That alone is worth one star. Rice was cooked well, but lacked depth and flavor. I appreciated that it was edible because a lot of Mexican restaurants fail on the rice. Beans, no complaints. Chips and salsa good. I ordered the chile verde and a red enchilada. I love chile verde but I also realize a lot of places don't do it well. This place didn't do it terribly, but it was bland. I put so much salt on it just to give some flavor. As for the red enchilada, I'm convinced the sauce came from a can. The chicken inside was good. My husband ordered the costillas de puerco in green sauce. Same complaint, no flavor. He also ordered a sope, which he enjoyed. Price - 4/5 Price is good for the portion size. I didn't use the bathrooms, so I can't comment on that. Overall, I think they have a good foundation. Menu is good, lots of selection. They seem to be a popular local spot. Also seems to be a good spot for large groups.
