We made a detour on the way to Yosemite just to try this place out. It was well worth it. This place is like sausage heaven. We got a sausage sandwich and they were both awesome. Someone also came out and gave our dog a pig, which was very friendly. We ended up getting 10 different kinds of sausage to take home. One of which was a sausage I haven't had since I was in Pennsylvania. The service was very friendly and the atmosphere was welcoming. There was easy parking right out front. There's a space outside to eat and your dog is welcome. It was busy when we came, but I would expect that for such an awesome place. I would definitely recommend this place and I will definitely return if given the opportunity. Went here today on a Thursday. Stopped by Wolfsen's and ordered the brisket sandwich with a medium fountain drink. The brisket itself was really good -- tender, flavorful, and clearly the star of the show. Honestly, I would eat the meat on its own because it was that delicious. That said, the sandwich was super messy. There was so much BBQ sauce that the bread got soggy pretty quickly, which made it hard to enjoy as an actual sandwich. If they toned down the sauce or served it on the side, it would make a big difference. They offer an interesting variety of meats and sausages, which makes it a fun place to check out, especially if you like trying different flavors. Seating is outdoors, and it's a cool little spot right across from the Saputo Dairy plant. Service was fine. Overall, great meat -- just be ready with extra napkins! read more

I stopped by Wolfsen's Meat and Sausage in Gustine and was immediately impressed by their selection. They have more varieties of sausage than I have ever seen. I picked up some chicken artichoke, a beer sausage, and a smoked maple. The smoked maple was outstanding and easily my favorite. The staff was friendly and welcoming from the moment I walked in. They greeted me right away and asked what I wanted to order, which I always appreciate. I also decided to try a brisket sandwich, which looked too good to pass up. The brisket itself was very good and full of flavor. That said, I am someone who pays close attention to food handling. I tend to notice when gloves are used as a substitute for proper hygiene rather than an added layer of protection. Unfortunately, that showed up here. The employee making my sandwich handled a large magic marker to write something, then immediately went back to preparing food without changing gloves. That is always disappointing to see. Because of that, I ended up eating more of the meat and less of the bread, but the quality of the brisket still stood out. I did take a picture of my brisket sandwich, but the picture did not do it justice, so I decided not to post it. Overall, there is a lot to like here, especially the incredible sausage selection and the friendly service. I would definitely come back to try the tri-tip sandwich. I loooove sausages and came across this place while driving back from Yosemite. The service was really friendly. I had to make a lot of tough decisions knowing I had limited space in my fridge at home. I got 8 different flavors. I'd say 2 of them were a hit for me, the others were alight. My favorites were the hot link and the blueberry one, but I didn't enjoy the fig/gorgonzola (I knew it would be experimental haha) primarily because the texture was weird and it was too salty. I thought the chuckwagon was alright and wasn't salty enough (I have 3 more left, so maybe it happens the one I had wasn't mixed thoroughly). I think I would have preferred more variability in the sausage, some surprise chunks of pork and some finely ground to mix up the textures. I smoked all of the sausages so go to try them all while they were juicy. I'll definitely be back when I'm in the area! I love trying all these exciting combinations - this is definitely my candy shop. read more

It is only about 15 minutes away from Los Banos, San Joaquin Valley National (military) Cemetery, and Santa Nella. AND since I read that they ALSO make great sandwiches, WE-HAD-TO-TRY-IT! We bought: the hot bbq pork sandwich, brisket sandwich, and made up a Reuben sandwich to split them all in half. The clear winner was the hot brisket sandwich! We also picked up some Irish Beer bangers and Gold Rush (brisket) sausages for our son. They also have smoked sausage, smoked salmon, smoked bacon and ham. All are vacuum sealed. To me, it's worth a trip just to go visit Gustine California, where it is located! In springtime, it's beautiful, nestled in the center of farmlands. . . If you drive down the one small Main Street in Gustine, it is just like many old towns in the 1960s. Like going back in time. . . you could stay at the hotel Mission de Oro in Santa Nella, and not too far in Newman, California is Stewart and Jasper Orchards, that have almond tasting in their company store. Yay Wolfson's! Saw it on the suggestions and reminded me to write a review. Last time I was there was about 6 months ago - the first time was about 30ish years ago. In that time, it has remained consistently great! You can get a sandwich to eat there or grab a bunch of variety packs - you'll likely do both. It's actually worth a drive off of 5 to go there as its own destination. People are very friendly and it's a comfortable sit. The last time I was there with my brother-in-law, he filled his cooler! On a recent trip down I-5, I decided to stop here to grab lunch. I hear this was a hidden gem for those willing to detour off the freeway. My wife and I arrived on a weekday around 10:30 AM, before the lunch rush. There are 4 spaces in front of the store, though there is plenty of parking on the street. We walked in and found 4 freezer cases alongside a long deli counter, all full of meat. Above the deli counter were the menu boards, one with the cold sandwich options and the other with the hot options. The cashier also pointed out the daily specials. We decided on the smoked tri-tip sandwich (one of their best sellers) and the New York Steak sandwich, one of the specials. We also grabbed 2 small bags of chips, 2 bottles of soda, and a few snacks for the road. Once our sandwiches were done, we took our bounty to the shaded patio in the side yard. The smoked tri-tip sandwich had BBQ sauce, sauteed bell peppers and onions and served on a sandwich roll. The bread was soft and the meat tender. While we enjoyed this sandwich, the sauce made eating it pretty messy. Thankfully there were plenty of napkins in our bag. The steak sandwich was adorned with lettuce, onions, tomato and mayo, and the roll was grilled on a panini press. The roll was still soft and the steak not too thick, making it easy to eat. We enjoyed the steak sandwich more than the tri-tip, though we would order both again. While we were sitting on the side patio, we saw several people come and go with their orders, though no one joined us on the patio (it was during the work week). After wolfing down our lunch, we cleaned our table and headed out. On our return trip, we will stop by and buy some of their fresh and smoked sausages to take home. According to their menu, they have over 70 types of sausages, so it will take awhile to try them all. One thing to note: this place prefers cash payments; while they do take credit cards, there is a premium, so be aware. read more

We first found this place at their booth at the Turlock farmers market. When they have it available, we always purchase the bloody Mary tri-tip and a few of their different sausage varieties. Now every few weeks we make the 45 minute drive to visit their shop in person. We found all of the meats we have purchased from here to be high-quality and we always leave with a fresh sandwich. It's been years, but I remember bits of potato inside. My husband loved their hot ribeye sandwich, and my son and I loved their brownies. Service was friendly each time we went. My husband's cousin first told us about this place. He'd bring a big cooler and drive all the way from Gilroy. I was like what the heck is going on here..so now I just stared directly at them when they make a sandwich. I've been meaning to stop by and check this place out and today was the day, I ask the help for their favorite cold sandwich and roast beef was the one, it has everything on it including pepper jack cheese.
