If you are looking for high end audio and video equipment you owe it to yourself to visit Evolution and speak with Jason.

After looking for a retailer in the area who sells high-end CD players, I visited Evolution. While…read moreI'm no audio geek, I've bought enough stereo equipment to know when I'm getting fact-based information as opposed to a mere sales pitch. Also, I do a fair amount of research before I enter a store, to get familiar with the manufacturers the store offers and the equipment in my price range from those manufacturers. Deniz was extremely helpful and knowledgeable, answering all my questions, presenting a range of options, and letting me listen for as long as I wanted. The manufacturers they sell are outstanding, as my hours of up-front research had confirmed. Long story short: it's two years later and I've bought three pieces of audio equipment and several accessories from Evolution. The service has remained top-notch, both before and after a purchase. When an amplifier had a technical issue, Deniz quickly arranged for the malfunctioning piece to be picked up and for the manufacturer to send me a replacement right away. Although I haven't spent as much time at the other high-end A-V stores in the DC area (the one I'd mainly used before, Sound Images in Falls Church, closed a few years back), I'd be surprised if they surpass the selection and service I've found at Evolution. Audiophiles tend to have strong likes and dislikes when it comes to sound, manufacturers, and equipment, and I'm no different. But based on my experience, if you're really into this stuff, you owe it to yourself to visit Evolution before making a purchase.

Great "after-service" to make sure everything is working properly. They've never over-sold or pressured. They have a wide variety of used items as well as several very fine lines for which they are certified dealers. They run the audiophile gamut in terms of price. As an example, they have the basic Project Debut all the way up to a Clearaudio Reference Master. I was pleased with the candor of their advice. For example, they urged me not to replace certain items because what I have is already plenty good. Many stores would have tried to sell more stuff rather the help the customer get it right and save money. Three separate times they gave me advice or a solution that involved no money changing hands. They also listen. How a person hears is like a fingerprint. We're all different. I told them the type of sound I enjoy and they tailored systems extremely accurately to my preference - and told me several times that I would not like certain expensive items so not to bother. Bottom line: it was about the customer sharing their joy in listening, not about moving boxes. Be prepared to spend some time if you visit. Between the beauty of their inventory, the joy of listening to beautifully reproduced music, and the infectious enthusiasm of the staff, time tends to fly. Finally, don't neglect to spend some time with Command Performance's most charming and enthusiastic employee, Bella the Audio Dog!

I had started the job myself but got an anchor screw stuck and figured I should have a pro step in so I didn't wreck my new walls. All the supplies were here, placed where they needed to be, holes were measured and marked for custom made rods and drapes. He charges by the hour and moves very, very slow. He didn't have his own step ladder or anchor screws. In the first hour, he managed to put in 3 screws in holes that had already been marked. He claimed he "needed to remeasure" and that's why it took so long, but he used the holes that I had already marked. He also said it was too hard to do with custom cut rods. He also said it wasn't his fault because I had an anchor screw stuck in the wall already, which was the whole reason I hired him. This is what pros do: they come prepared, know the required materials and techniques, and advise the customer on the best way to proceed. I knew we needed to cut it off when he asked me how to use an anchor screw. He didn't know if you needed to pre-drill or not for a very basic and common anchor. I cannot imagine a professional handyman not knowing that. He used a level to stare at the pre-marked holes for what seemed like an eternity, just eating up time. 3 screws = $200. Seems like a nice enough man, but handyman may not be the profession for him, and that's giving him the benefit of the doubt that he wasn't just trying to take advantage of someone he assumed was too naive too know how long the job should take. He became very defensive, making excuses when I said we'd need to end the job at one hour. Im sure judging by other less than 5 star reviews here (that I really wish I'd have taken the time to read) he will post a very defensive response here as well. Please just don't take a job you don't have the required expertise to complete, and I don't want to hear defensive excuses when I'm still out $200 for almost no work completed.
