Love the store and the staff. Have Hegel, Pro-ject, Totem, Naim, JBL and (most importantly) Marten…read moreproducts I've purchased from them over the years. Great "after-service" to make sure everything is working properly. They've never over-sold or pressured. The best in the D.C. area for sure for high-end Hi-Fi (including what I think of as affordable high-end).

Command Performance is a fun little audio shop focused on quality two-channel stereo. Jeff and…read moreJohn are great guys who clearly love audio and know their craft in great depth. They have a wide variety of used items as well as several very fine lines for which they are certified dealers. They run the audiophile gamut in terms of price. As an example, they have the basic Project Debut all the way up to a Clearaudio Reference Master. I was pleased with the candor of their advice. For example, they urged me not to replace certain items because what I have is already plenty good. Many stores would have tried to sell more stuff rather the help the customer get it right and save money. Three separate times they gave me advice or a solution that involved no money changing hands. They also listen. How a person hears is like a fingerprint. We're all different. I told them the type of sound I enjoy and they tailored systems extremely accurately to my preference - and told me several times that I would not like certain expensive items so not to bother. Bottom line: it was about the customer sharing their joy in listening, not about moving boxes. Be prepared to spend some time if you visit. Between the beauty of their inventory, the joy of listening to beautifully reproduced music, and the infectious enthusiasm of the staff, time tends to fly. Finally, don't neglect to spend some time with Command Performance's most charming and enthusiastic employee, Bella the Audio Dog!

After looking for a retailer in the area who sells high-end CD players, I visited Evolution. While…read moreI'm no audio geek, I've bought enough stereo equipment to know when I'm getting fact-based information as opposed to a mere sales pitch. Also, I do a fair amount of research before I enter a store, to get familiar with the manufacturers the store offers and the equipment in my price range from those manufacturers. Deniz was extremely helpful and knowledgeable, answering all my questions, presenting a range of options, and letting me listen for as long as I wanted. The manufacturers they sell are outstanding, as my hours of up-front research had confirmed. Long story short: it's two years later and I've bought three pieces of audio equipment and several accessories from Evolution. The service has remained top-notch, both before and after a purchase. When an amplifier had a technical issue, Deniz quickly arranged for the malfunctioning piece to be picked up and for the manufacturer to send me a replacement right away. Although I haven't spent as much time at the other high-end A-V stores in the DC area (the one I'd mainly used before, Sound Images in Falls Church, closed a few years back), I'd be surprised if they surpass the selection and service I've found at Evolution. Audiophiles tend to have strong likes and dislikes when it comes to sound, manufacturers, and equipment, and I'm no different. But based on my experience, if you're really into this stuff, you owe it to yourself to visit Evolution before making a purchase.

Would not shop here again. We picked up an online order and we were not given a bag or a receipt,…read moreeven though we asked for one and the worker said we didn't need it because we had the one on our phone. We walked to the next building that had all of the guitar supplies and greeted a security guard at the front, he saw the online order in our hand when we walked in. I made direct eye contact with him. My mother and I walked around and looked for pedals and other guitar accessories. We had started to carry around things we were intending to buy. We headed towards the back of the store with the midi keyboards. The security guard from the front followed us to the back of the store and ordered us to come to the front and make an itemized list of the things in our hands. I told him that we hadn't paid for the items in my hands yet and that we were shopping. It was very confusing to me because he was inhibiting us from shopping. I asked him directly why we were being singled out when the store was full of people. He was very rude and I believe it had something to do with our race as we were the only black people in the store. I was adamant on wanting to know why he was singling us out and he continued to talk in circles. I demanded to know why I needed to come to the front again and he would not give me a reason so I refused to come with him. Another employee saw that this was becoming a situation and diffused the situation. This interaction was very demoralizing and they humiliated my mother and I by accusing us of theft when we had done nothing wrong or suspicious. He yelled at us in front of everyone. I would not come here again and will continue to take my money to the Guitar Center down the street.
