We went to Debi's for Sunday brunch. At first glance we were looking at the restaurant on the next corner but decided on Debi's instead. When we walked in you are immediately directed downstairs to be seated by the hostess. Our waiter, Ms. Tracy was so polite and welcoming. She explained everything on the menu, the specials and her recommendations. She also gave us some information about the restaurant and Savannah as a whole. We ordered the Veggie Quiche with grits and a side order of pancakes. The Quiche was tasty the crust was a little sweet. I ordered the crab cakes with fried green tomatoes. Team, we came here after seeing a huge line at a breakfast place across the street. I saw a sign that said open and with no other encouragement headed in and down the stairs in search of early morning food. Spoiler alert- we went back two more days in a row. The prices are crazy low. The food is super classic southern (nothing healthy thank the good lord) and the service is great! Family run place that doesn't need to scream about it's history or quality food. The place was buzzing with regulars even in the touristy area where it's located. I took no pictures, I didn't check in, I just shoveled the gravy covered offerings straight into my face and came back for more again and again. Love this place! read more

This place was able to accommodate 7 people for brunch on a Sunday with no wait! Very thankful for that. The food was quick and delish. I got the salmon patty cakes with cheese grits and they were amazing! Tasted fresh and the cheese grits satisfied this southern gal. The only reason for 4 instead of 5 was they were out of a few things (and it was like 9:45) and they don't serve alcohol. Was really craving a mimosa! We stumbled upon this hidden gem in the rain. We ducked in and it wasn't busy at all. They filmed a scene from Forrest Gump here, and they had a tv playing the movie, and we got to sit right by the tv! The biscuits and gravy were amazing and I had the best pancakes I've ever had in my life there! We must've come close to closing time. The server was very pleasant. My wife's food was blah. I got the grilled meatloaf sandwich. The cheese looked melted but was cold. The meatloaf was seasoned oddly and was cold. The grilled bread wasn't even warmed. It felt like it was completely premise and very slightly warmed up. The onion rings were not homemade. I'm not sure how this place has so many good reviews. My fiance and I were wanting a good southern breakfast but all we got was a microwavable Kirklands special. The $3 biscuit im pretty sure was frozen and they just microwaved it to heat it up- i couldnt even pull it apart. The bacon was so bad I couldnt eat more than one bite. My fiance got chicken and waffles- the chicken was tough and absolutely fake. Peaches not fresh, definitely from a can. The waffle was the only edible part really. I dont leave a lot of bad reviews bc i really dont want a business to suffer, but in this economy i dont want patrons to lose their hard earned money either. Not sure why this place has such amazing reviews- to me, it was just A-OK. Nothing blew me out of the water except the service- such a sweet server! Also, the music was nice- lots of oldies. The food was like I could make at home, only with a lot more grease. Seriously- even the bill at the end of the meal was so greasy I had to hold it with two fingers. i got the veggie and cheese omelette with hash browns and a biscuit (instead of toast and grits that it normally comes with). Everything was good, but not exactly fresh or innovative. Can't say much about the Forest Gump connection. Just had to stop because of Jenny. Got there around noon and seemed like mostly locals. The staff are super friendly and you just know you are in the south with the hospitality. This place was recommended to us by some locals. We tried it for a late breakfast. The chicken and waffles looked to good to pass up. It was served with the syrup already on top. The syrup was a peach and walnut maple syrup. I forgot to mention there was a line of people waiting from the top three stairs to the bottom but we only waited about 15 minutes. It is traditional comfort food but the taste is lacking....(how should I say) grandma's taste and seasoning. Food presentation can be a notch better. I don't need full scale Michelin star quality. There is something about being about to wake up, put up sweatpants and a t-shirt and get good comfort breakfast so I can walk back to my room and hop straight back in the bed. Walking down bay street on a hot Monday morning looking for breakfast, but the place we were headed was closed. We started looking around and saw a sign that said "Serving Breakfast All Day" across the street so we headed that way. As we walked over we saw people going in and others coming out, so we figured it must be ok. When we got there we saw the name of the restaurant was Debi's. We walked in and found ourselves upstairs in an empty dining area, but quickly noticed the actual dining room was downstairs. As we walked downstairs several servers greeted us and one took a few menus out and showed us to our table. We were hungry, but didn't want to overload ourselves so we decided to split something. We settled on the New Orleans Crab Stack; which was an awesome benedict dish of fried green tomatoes and crab cake topped with a remoulade sauce. It was delicious! Service and food were great. Next time in Savannah we'll come back for breakfast for sure. read more

We found this place on the main st looking for brunch. It looked like a long line but we were seated pretty quickly. My fiance got breakfast, I ordered lunch because a lobster grilled cheese sounded delish. Our waitress was friendly but very busy, but looked like she had all the tables to herself. It took awhile to get our food. While waiting they accidentally brought us stuffed mushrooms and let us enjoy them. They were very good, I would order those another time. Food finally came, nothing fancy but tasted good. The ranch tasted homemade. My lobster grilled cheese was decent, but I wouldn't order it again. Fiance got grits and those were yummy. The sitting area was old school, mismatched old chairs with stains. I like the old school charm, but a little dingy. Everyone wore masks. Wait to pay out, again, very busy waitress. We stopped by for brunch after we checked out of our Hotel for our trip. The menu is not overwhelming and the options are traditional low country type fair. The prices are very, very reasonable. The atmosphere is gorgeous as this restaurant is located downstairs from the East Bay Inn right on the riverfront. A pretty double wide staircase leads you to an open dining area with wood and all brick walls, very historic looking. You don't feel closed in a basement here due to the open staircase and large windows that open to the street above. They were short staffed the day we came - as most places are these days. However, they were very pleasant the service wasn't lacking. We had no wait at 10:30 on a Thursday - but soon after we arrived it started to get busy. The food was good, nothing fancy. Not overdone and just good, simple home cooking. We got the French toast and grits bowl. The French toast has three full (6 halves) of thick Texas toast with a side of syrup and 2 sausage patties. The grits bowl came with an egg, cheese, crumbled bacon (or you could get crumbled sausage) all covered in plain, creamy grits. Both were filling and good. This was a nice stop before we hit the road for the day back up to Charleston for our flight. If you are looking for simple, low country cooking for a reasonable price - this is the place to go. read more

There is a mask ordinance in Savannah, but my husband and I were disappointed to see that many of the staff here largely ignored it. One waitress had a face covering that was worn around her neck the entire time we were there. Maybe she has a medical condition that prevents her from wearing a mask. Fine. But she also did a lot of laughing and talking over people's food and drinks, which I can only imagine ended up covered in droplets. Most of the rest of the staff wore masks to cover their mouths, but not their noses, so that also is pretty ineffective. Guests were sitting at tables right next to each other, with no regard to social distancing. If you are at all concerned about the spread of COVID19 I would not eat here. read more

I came here because I wanted to see where Jenny from Forrest Gump worked at. This place is great. They have a little tv up front showing the movie Forrest Gump on repeat. It is most definitely one of my fave movies. Their service is pretty top notch. The lady at the cash register was super nice. I ordered my food to go. The lady recommended their Savannah Special for $11. You can choose an entree and 3 sides. I ordered the fried chicken, Mac n cheese, okra and tomatoes, and peaches. It also came with sweet tea. The tea was phenomenal, I loved it! Their fried chicken was on point, the Mac n cheese was a little bland, the okra and tomatoes was cooked perfectly, and the peaches was super sweet. You're not coming here for the food. Or at least you shouldn't, because the food is solidly mediocre. (We ordered the chicken and waffles and neither the chicken, nor the waffle was crispy, at all.) You should come here, because the wait staff is incredibly sweet and lovely. Because it's the diner from Forrest Gump and thus has tons of Forrest Gumpness to it. They play killer music.
