I dined at DeAngelos for the first time on Tuesday, November 24 with a friend of mine. The service was subpar at best. Our waiter constantly neglected us throughout our stay. We were never informed of the specials [which apparently I qualified for since I ordered a calzone (buy 1, get 1 free)]. Had we known that, my friend would not have ordered what he did. Over 30 minutes had passed after we finished our meal and still our waiter never came to us to see how we were doing. The place was virtually empty and our waiter was no where to be found. I finally got up and had to look for him and once I found him stated "oh there you are, I thought you forgot about us!" To add insult to injury, my "free" calzone was not even ready when we wanted to leave. We had to continue to wait for it. This was my first time at your restaurant, and you have lost this customer's business and I will be sure to let others know of the treatment we experienced while dining out. For the record, I did reach out to management. Their reply was professional but wasn't enough to make me change my opinion of the place, nor did they offer to give me a second chance. read more

A bit pricey, but I suppose it is worth it. ;-) Service has always been great. Try the eggplant parm if you haven't already. C'est tres bien. (I know that is French, it's the best I could do) read more

We were hungry last night and decided to get some takeout via delivery. We had the jambalaya and the chicken and mushroom ravioli. Great customer service from the restaurant over the phone (they called to clarify an allergy concern regarding our order) and tasty food. Looking forward to ordering again in near future. read more

Upon entry it seems like this would be a cheesy pizza joint. However, the dining area is very Italian in its style. We were ignored twice by the hostess who seated her regulars first (we are not local). Once seated we received prompt service and our order was taken quickly. It turns out Monday is buy one get one free pizza or calzone. So, we got calzones and huge $3 side salads. Absolutely the best food I'd experienced in a long time. Ingredients were fresh and perfectly prepared. The bill was very light. I highly recommend this restaurant to those looking for Italian. Very romantic atmosphere. The portions are huge and the staff is friendly. read more

For a chain restaurant, this places knows how to do it right. They use quality ingredients--and it's evident upon first bite. The salads are massive and filled with tons of toppings and the calzones are cooked perfectly--with an amazing, garlicky tomato sauce for dipping. Everything I've had on the menu has been great--and the price is reasonable, too. I agree with Megan M. that it's the best Italian in town. But when your competition is the Olive Garden.... read more

Came here almost 4 yrs ago and didn't think of coming back until groupon came up with a really sweet deal ($12 for 20) plus I was craving for tiramisu. Me and hubby ordered calamari, basil pesto with gulf shrimp and tiramisu! They are all good but I would say my fav of them all is the fresh shrimp with creamy pesto sauce. Our server was really nice and since we were sharing the pasta, she offered to split it into two plates. I hope they will continue to take groupons because I will be coming back! read more

I went on a Monday night and was seated quickly. Pretty standard wine menu, good prices. Complementary dinner bread was good (not the greatest, though). Roasted garlic was served with the bread. Our entrees arrived in a perfect amount of time (for me, usually around 15-20 minutes.) The food was piping hot from the oven and delicious. I had the roasted chicken and wild mushroom ravioli, this was delicious! My husband had the pesto pasta and really enjoyed it. We shared tiramisu for desert. Our server was very pleasant and made sure we were perfectly taken care of with little interaction (my preference.) I had a great time here! read more

Great food, service and atmosphere. Priced perfect. Went for our anniversary. Made reservation for 5:30, arrived early and was seated anyway. The staff was awesome. Explained there specials without pressuring us in to try anything that we didn't show interest in. Very attentive and pleasant to converse with. Food portions were perfect. From the appetizers to the desert, everything was great. Def on our short list to go back. They had wines specials too. read more

Yes, it's a chain. But I've never had anything I didn't like here, and I've had: Super veggie pizza Portofino pizzette ? something like that Tuscan chopped salad Chicken & mushroom ravioli in cream sauce And they were all good! The price is reasonable, the dining area is nice, and the food is consistently good. Tuesday night is family night - I've never been on Tuesday, but FYI. read more

I've been here twice and really wanted to love it because of the nice atmosphere and great-sounding menu. Appetizers took a full 30 minutes to come out after ordering, and entrees took an additional 30+ minutes after we had finished appetizers. The restaurant wasn't very busy and no one even seemed to notice that we had been in the restaurant for over 90 minutes by the end. Wait staff seemed friendly but wasn't very attentive. Maybe they're immortal or something because there just seemed to be zero sense of time. We were starving, so we were excited when the food finally arrived 60 minutes in, and were immensely disappointed. I ordered "Roasted Chicken and Mushroom Ravioli," which I assumed would be mushroom ravioli topped with some roasted chicken. No. This was a small $15 dish of 5 ravioli, which were stuffed with processed chicken circles as the filling. The bottom of the dish was covered in canned mushrooms, and the sauce tasted like it came out of a can. Multiple people at the table tried it and one "had to swallow it whole" because it tasted so bad. The other time I went, I ordered the Lemon Chicken Alfredo, which sounds great but is actually very dry pasta with almost no lemon flavor, topped with a piece of cheap-tasting fried chicken. I don't want to be mean because like I said, I think this place is adorable and really really wanted to like it. I tried other dishes at the table, which included a Homemade Lasagna that wasn't even as good as a frozen lasagna. The food really is gross and really overpriced. Honestly, go across the street to Fazoli's. In conclusion, the only good dish here is the Spicy Meatball appetizer, and only order that if you want to wait 30-45 minutes for it to come out. read more

Nice Italian food. Bread was very fresh. Enjoyed the decor, waitstaff was very professional. Ravioli and marinara was excellent!

Fettuccini Alfredo was decent Ravioli was "good but not very hot" Bread was very dry Olive oil was terrible, maybe expired? read more

For a chain place in a strip mall my party, as a bunch of food people, were suitable satisfied with our meal and even pleasantly surprised. We also found the service to be above-par. Typically all-you-can-eat pasta is a bad deal, but here the AYCE price is slightly lower for Spaghetti-n-meatballs than the regular price. The atmosphere is very "chain restaurant in a strip mall in the middle of Indiana" so, that's what you're getting. Brick oven style pizza and meatballs were especially good. cannoli is a little weird, though not untasty. Doesn't taste as if there is any ricotta. The Cheesecake and the tiramisu were the best desserts. read more

I can't understand all the negative reviews for service at D'Angelo's. I had dinner tonight with my daughter- we were seated immediately and even though the restaurant was crowded our server was friendly, fast, and attentive. We each had a half salad (Tuscan chopped for me and a Caesar for her). I'm glad we got half-salads because they were huge. We shared a 12 inch pizza- it was very good, thin crusted and delicious. I had a glass of Chianti ($10/glass seemed high but it was a generous pour). Food is better than your average chain (think Olive Garden) Italian place, but still very Americanized. The atmosphere is what you would expect from an upscale casual place in a strip mall. Service was perfect! read more

DeAngelo's is a great place to eat in Bloomington. The atmosphere is very comfortable and classy. The food is really good too. The calzones are amazing but I also love the meatballs (appetizer). If you're looking for a nice place to eat in Bloomington I think you should consider DeAngelo's. read more

For some reason, Bloomington is really lacking when it comes to good Italian restaurants. Thankfully DeAngelo's is in town and very delicious. I've tried both their pizza and pasta and haven't been disappointed. To be honest, I'm only interested in coming here for Italian in Bloomington since I've heard mixed reviews about Grazie... read more

I am in town for a wedding. I stumbled into this restaurant for lunch on a whim. The restaurant is kept extremely cold. I am not one to ever catch a chill so I didn't have a jacket handy. I asked to sit at the bar. Apparently it isn't used often as there was random stuff on it and the girl helping me acted like it was strange to sit at the bar. The wine bottles were "sweaty" from being kept in the fridge and then left sitting- red wine at that. The girl helping me had no menu suggestions when asked. She only suggested what NOT to get- maybe that's my first clue? I ordered the shrimp gamberi. It's basically al dente spaghetti with a tiny bit of olive oil and some questionable dried veggies. Sun dried tomato and olives perhaps? Who knows. The shrimp itself was ok. Bread service was offered right away but only showed up after the meal was served. The bread was stale. This would be a primo spot for Gordon Ramsey's shows! I gave up, paid for my wine, and went for sushi next door. Highly recommend them- Asuka I believe it was. read more

The absolute best calzones ever!!! My fave so far is cheese calzone substitute the ricotta for feta and add double pepperoni. Out of this world!!! Second face is cheese calzone keep the ricotta and add double capicolla ham. I even sent praise to the chef via my server bc it was so delicious. You can tell they make the dough fresh! Yum!!! read more

Wow! Finally got to try this hidden gem yesterday after taking our daughter back to IU. Hands-down the best restaurant meal we've had in Bloomington in 2 years! I ordered the super deluxe pizza and it was SO GOOD! We've had pizza from several places in Bloomington and this one was simply the best! We also enjoyed the cajun pasta dish and the spaghetti and meatballs. My daughter said the spaghetti sauce tasted like Maggiano's (Chicago) which is one of our favorites. The complimentary Italian bread and garlic oil was a nice start too. Melanie, our server, was incredible. Friendly and efficient and knew the menu to make suggestions. We never waited once for a refill or anything else. Have to admit I was hesitant to try yet another new place for fear of disappointment, but was blown away. DeAngelo's has become our new favorite and we look forward to eating there again next time we're in town! read more

Half price wine on Wednesday! I love the fried shrimp appetizer and the lasagna. Good selection and good service.

Never again! I placed an online order at 11:37 with the app they advertised on their website. By the time I got to the restaurant and was inside I was sent email that the order was canceled because they were too "busy" since I was already there I figured I'd ask what the issue was especially since they were far from "busy". The waiter said the order would be out in 8 mins so I thought ok cool must've been an app issue then at this time it was 11:56. I waited until 12:20 and left that is almost an hour from when the order was first placed. During the wait I saw other people served their orders and the waiter never came to update me on why the order was taking longer. Definitely going to let everyone I know not to go here due to its horrible service. read more

In my entire life I have never seen worse service. All of the food was dropped off in a few minutes, and the wait staff never returned. We asked three different staff members to find our waitress and at some point they rolled their eyes at us. Finally she returned and acted irritated and surprised that we wanted another glass of wine. Very disappointing for a small restaurant. read more

Recently set out on the incredibly difficult task of finding a Bloomington restaurant willing to accommodate 30 ish Rugby players/coaches etc for dinner on a Friday night. Not an easy task. I live a couple hours away and called many local Bloomington favorites and even basic chains ( like Olive Garden) and couldn't get anyone- even offering to pay in advance. Fortunately, we found DeAngelos- they were lovely, kind, hospitable, generous and effortlessly kind and the food was really good too. Everyone selected from the pasta menu items and we had a few appetizers and all were pleased. So thankful to know about them and we will definitely be returning read more

We have been there 3 times. Once I had a good meal. Tonight the wine was like grape juice. When I complained that the Oliver wine was not semi sweet, but exceedingly sweet and undrinkable, the waitress said Oliver wines were sweet. Did not just fall off a turnip truck. We were billed for glasses left full. Another time we both found pieces of can labels in our calzones. read more

Food was alright but definitely overpriced for the quality. What really killed it was the service. The restaurant was nearly empty, but the amount of time it took for our waiter to check up on us felt like she was busy with 5 other tables (when really she had none). Her tone was also very dry and monotone and she hardly ever smiled. I don't expect you to be super happy, but I'm paying for your service so a smile or two would be nice. Also, I saw my food at the counter and literally watched it sit there with no one giving it a second glance. I was half-tempted to go over there and get it myself. I just don't understand what our waiter could possibly be doing when she had no other tables to wait. Overall, I will probably avoid this place from now on. read more

Returning here after several years was a disappointment. We had a friends and semi-business dinner for 5. Seating and service were a tad slow but we ordered a bottle of delicious Mionetto Prosecco to cheer us into our meal. The bread was wonderful, soft inside, crusty outside with a very fine olive oil and some roast garlic to accent it. That was the best part of our meal. Caprese towers were rough and ready not finely constructed, more thrown together with a shovel than carefully laid with a trowel. The tomatoes were not succulent enough to warrant using them in this form. The eggplant Parmesan was tougher than it should have been, as if pre-frozen. The calamari was clearly reconstituted frozen cooked in old oil. The Alfredo pasta (and other pasta) was al dente enough to count as tough. Clearly what used to be the best Italian in town does not have a chef but a cook coasting on past recipes. We decided not to test the kitchen with ordering dessert. read more

I had ordered carry out before that was very good. Last night my granddaughter and I waited 30 minutes for a table. I ordered chicken Parmesan: chicken undercooked, pasta undercooked with watery tomato sauce; salad had lots of greens and little else. My granddaughter's penne pasta bowl had the same watery sauce. The bread with roasted garlic was great, good wine and dessert. Overall, I was very disappointed and will not return. read more

The Monday special rocks! Calzones are tasty too, service has been so so both times we have been there and it hasn't ever been busy. Decent value for the price though. read more

I like the food, but I can't afford to eat here very often. The entrees are too pricey for the portions. We (my wife, me, and 3 little kids) only come on Mondays when we get Buy One Get One Free Calzones. A part of me dies inside when I leave a restaurant and I'm still hungry. I'm an average size guy too, so I'm not asking too much to be full after a meal. But, I won't pay for extra food that should be part of a regular portion. If I want a regular priced meal that's filling, I would rather go to Buffalouie's. read more

I went to DeAngelo's on Saturday April 14, 2012 for the first time in years. We weren't exceptionally hungry and decided to try DeAngelo's out because it had been a very long time since we had been there and it's been well reviewed on Yelp and elsewhere. Our server was polite but slow and relatively inattentive. We split a large Caprese "towers" appetizer and a meatball pizza. The caprese salad was very fresh, the basil, mozzarella, and tomatoes were all tasty, however there wasn't enough balsamic vinegar to make the dish come together and our server didn't reappear for about twenty minutes so we weren't able to ask for more vinegar. Our pizza was brought to us by another server, it was served very hot but the slices were very uneven in size, some were slivers and others were giant, it made it difficult to eat without a knife and fork. After we finished our pizza we asked for a box and the check and it took longer than it should have to receive both. The total bill was almost $25.00 for an appetizer and a one topping 12 inch pizza. The quality of the food and service did not warrant the price. In short, the food was fine, but completely unremarkable and the service left a lot to be desired. I'm going to stick to Bucceto's from now on for casual Italian. read more

Came for lunch and got some kind of two-for-one deal on the calzones (like $16 each normally). I think I would've been upset about paying the much for lunch without the discount. Strange vibe in the dining room. Too quiet. I dunno about this place.... not really my thing. read more

They were really busy, so the service was slow, but the fried ravioli for $5 was OUTSTANDING!!!! The rest of our food was excellent too.

I don't visit often but historically found the food really good. The last two visits the food is really tasteless and bland. Service is adequate. I wish they would reinvest in their food quality. Event he roasted garlic was less appetizing. (Which was a former all time favorite). Feeling disappointed read more

DeAngelo's is NOT a chain but is associated with one other restaurant previously owned by the DeNardos. It uses local ingredients that are extremely fresh and often organic; it also has many good vegetarian options and an excellent wine selection read more

I had high hopes for this place, as many state it is the best Italian in Bloomington. I ordered one of their pizzas, really it was decent but I have had some very good authentic Italian pizzas and this was nowhere close. I found that the flavors were muted, and I do believe there is still yet space for a truly good Italian restaurant in Bloomington. I would say that I would take Olive Garden over this establishment, which again is a shame as it should be tremendously better than a chain restaurant should it wish to be considered a good Italian restaurant. read more

There were gluten free options, which was great. However, the pesto noodles were swimming in a flavorless plate of green oil. It definitely tasted like jarred pesto, not fresh. I wish I could forget this meal ever happened. read more

Just walked into this place today on a whim for pizza and was very surprised. We were the only people in the restaurant and was kinda leery about what we got into. We got the tomato basil soup and the pizza luca 12". The soup was ON POINT! I love Italian food and this place was VERY GOOD. When the pizza came it was way better than expected. The waitress MIRA was very attentive and cordial and very helpful. This my new favorite place for pizza in Indiana. Im definitely coming for an actual meal and am sure wont be disappointed.
