I do not like NY style pizza if it's not done well, but I wanted to give Goodfellas a try, and I was pretty happy with their take on it. The only disappointment was not the pizza itself but the selection; the only vegetarian slices available were plain cheese and cheese with tomato slices, not even a mixed veggie pizza. It looked like they weren't fully stocked on the meat pizzas and breaksticks either, so I wonder if it's just because I came between peak meal times at 2 pm (but the lunch special runs until 3, so I would have expected them to be better equipped for lunch at this point). I went with the tomato slice, plus a breadstick and cannolo. The slice was tasty: not too greasy, which is the most common pitfall of any pizza, with the perfect amount of cheese. My particular breadstick was kind of hollow inside, but this wasn't a bad thing because it was so big that there was still plenty of bread around the edges, and the cavity was great for scooping up sauce. Both the pizza and the breadstick seemed bigger on my plate than they looked in the display. I would've skipped the cannolo if I had fully understood how big the servings were, but I had already bought the thing and knew it wouldn't travel well so I ate it there even though I was getting full and ended up not really regretting it because it also great. The shell was crispy and the filling had a very pleasant texture. The staff there were friendly, the service was prompt, and the eating area looked clean. I would return, but I'll try to go earlier if I'm looking for lunch to see if the selection is a little better. read more

My husband and I stopped in after attending a show at the Auditorium, hoping for a quick bite before our drive back to Indianapolis. Unfortunately, this visit fell short of expectations. Only cheese pizza was prepared, which was disappointing. We ordered a couple slices and breadsticks, trying to make the best of the situation. When we asked for beer, staff told us no one working was old enough to serve alcohol. On a Friday evening, this staffing choice seemed like poor planning. The food quality was the biggest letdown. Grease pooled on top of our slices in visible puddles. We poured off the excess oil before attempting to eat. Even after doing so, the slices remained too greasy to enjoy. We had only a few bites before giving up. The breadsticks were no improvement. They were bland. We ate half of one breadstick out of hunger, but eating something so tasteless was so unsatisfying. I love stopping into Goodfellas on Mondays for their 50% off small pizzas (size in the pictures). Ordering fresh is my preference here, but a lot of people like going in to just get a slice and a giant breadstick. The inside is meant to remind you of all the mafia films you've ever seen, with pictures from the films on the walls. The employees are always super nice and the food is good. The food, service, price and even the organization of the restaurant (yes, I notice those things) were excellent. They serve the lunch special every day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The lunch special is a slice of pizza, your choice of a side (a breadstick, a salad [caprese, pasta or lettuce salad], or a dessert [cheesecake, chocolate chip cookie, black-and-white cookie or cannoli]) and a drink for $9. I need to talk about the breadsticks here first, because they are enormous. They're about the size of an adult tibia. The breadsticks come with a dipping sauce (marinara or nacho cheese), and honestly, a breadstick and a sauce would make for a nice little lunch. The breadsticks are that huge. The pizza slices are also huge. My children had to hold them with two hands. We compared the slices to their heads, and I think the pizza slices might have been slightly larger than their heads. Huge, people. I don't mince words here. I love a place that sells pizza by the slice, and this place does but does it to the max. Oh, and the pizza was great. It had a crunch to it, but it was also soft around the edges, and the sauce and cheese were just the right amounts. It's the kind of slice you picture in your mind when you think about getting a good slice of pizza. Goodfellas is located close to Indiana University, so just know that it might be difficult to find parking. We found lots of parking in a lot that was behind a building that was across the street from Goodfellas. Parking was free on Sundays, too, which was a bonus because we visited on a Sunday. read more

And he goes, well that's about to change... We went inside a small restaurant with barely enough sitting room. There was a counter where you could see the pizzas they had available. We ordered the lunch special which was $8 for a slice of pizza, a side, and a drink. I got a cheese pizza, bigger than my face ! And an 8ft long breadstick ! They were both delicious. One of my go-to spots; despite the whole gooey dough thing Notes: 1) sometimes there are really outlandish and completely undesirable combos on the premade pizza slices; at which point I just leave to spend my dollars elsewhere. @ whoever is in charge of that quit doing weird shit; would much rather see margarita pizza as a regular staple. 2) a bit overcharged esp considering you run the risk of encountering gooey dough pretty much every other time... this is a college town and 2 slices of pizza should never ever cost the same as an entire pizza; regardless of topping count. You really can't beat the fact that they have $4.50 cheese slices. Everyone that I've come into contact there that works there is incredibly nice and willing to have a conversation. Too often I go to places where people just want to stare at their phone and not be bothered to have a decent conversation with a patron. Here though, it's great conversation about whatever game is on the tv, the job, etc. Having family in New York City (along with all the other Burroughs) and having been to multiple pizza places (shout out to Di Fara Pizza, and Antony's Pizza), this is as close to home you're going to get in Indy! The toppings were delicious, but a bit sparse and sort of strangely placed. where do i even begin. for starters, i asked how the calzone was. she replied "it's pretty good." i like it when restaurants set their own expectations. the calzone is a cool $10 on the board above the oven. i happily said "i'll take the calzone then." i place my order: pepperoni, onions, banana peppers, roasted garlic. i'm eager to pay, and then i see the total came out to $19.44. what? turns out, toppings are 2 dollars each. i'll be honest, there is zero justification for a $2 topping on this calzone. i could have gone to upstairs on a tuesday and gotten more value than paying $2 for 5 banana peppers. after my shocked-self taps to pay, i'm informed the calzone will take 20 minutes, which is fine, but would've liked to know before. at least, in my mind, i'm going to get a perfectly cooked calzone, right? wrong, bro. so wrong. i get home, take a bite, and it's noticeably chewy. chewy? a calzone, chewy? this can't be, right? it wasn't cooked all the way through at all. some of the toppings were not even lukewarm, and there was still pizza dough that hadn't been cooked. if i'm going to wait 20 minutes, i at least want a fully cooked 'zone, yafeelme?
