Found this cute hidden gem while on a business trip with coworkers. A lot of restaurants close early in downtown but this was one of the few open later. We walked in and the atmosphere had a positive vibe and was welcoming. They weren't very busy and we we sat immediately. We offered cocktails to start. The Dead Line #44 was a unique and fun drink. We ordered several dishes and they all seemed to be a hit. I enjoyed the Spanish Fried Rice with Shrimp. It was a large portion and it had great taste. I needed a little extra hot sauce but good overall. Jeremy was new to the restaurant and took really good care of us. He was friendly and provided great service. Dead Line was a fun spot for happy hour with my colleagues. A colleague recommended this place for happy hour after work and after visiting, I can see why. The bar's atmosphere with old school jams and craft cocktails had something to offer. We came here shortly after 4pm and the place already had a few parties inside for happy hour. Fortunately, my colleague made a reservation for the three of us, which I didn't even know you can do for happy hour; but that was useful since we had a table set for us. As the night went on, Dead Line became more popular. The happy hour menu featured discounted cocktails and a handful of food items. However, they had a full food menu and all the cocktails and liquor that you desire. I started with the Bee's Knees cocktail and then had a Kir Royal cocktail, both of which were solid. Cocktails is their thing here, so I recommend you try one. I loved the atmosphere of Dead Line. The tall, tall shelves of liquors at the bar with a chandelier in the middle of the space has a retro, modern vibe. Gotta love the velvet chairs too. It's fancy but not that fancy, which is how I roll. I recommend checking out Dead Line if you're in Pioneer Square for a cocktail or two. read more

Okay, so this is a legitimately cool little spot, in a great location. The decor was interesting and I really liked the vibes. Our server was super nice and made sure we had everything we needed. I have zero gripes about the staff or the place itself. The food on the other hand, was where my date and I had some issues. First, they had some sort of limited menu because of a concert that was happening that night. The dish that I had scoped out beforehand was not even offered for some reason, which was a disappointing way to begin the experience. My date added bacon to her cheeseburger, which was a $5 add-on, making it a $28 burger and fries. The burger was small and the bacon was almost unnoticeable, flavor-wise. My main dish was good, but the fries I ordered were completely unsalted and there were no salt shakers in sight to remedy the problem. In our experience here, the food was mediocre overall and rather overpriced. Even their drinks were all hovering between $16-22. I've willingly paid $20+ for nice cocktails before, but I was pretty surprised that they didn't seem to offer anything at a lower price point. Everything tends to be more expensive downtown, but I left feeling a little disappointed and that's not common for me. I visited Deadline Bar during happy hour and it was an okay experience. The atmosphere was pretty standard for a bar - dim lighting and loud music. The drinks weren't my favorite or anything. I wasn't a fan to be honest. They just taste like straight up alcohol, no flavor in the cocktails. The prices were a bit high. The food at Deadline Bar was also just okay. I tried the garlic parmesan fries and they were pretty standard - crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. They were served with a side of ketchup. Overall, the fries were nothing special. All in all, I would say that Deadline Bar is a decent spot if you're looking for a place to grab a drink with friends and have never been before. Worth a try. Would I go again? No. The atmosphere is pretty standard, the drinks are not the worst and the food is okay. It's not the best bar I've ever been to, but it's not the worst either. Maybe it was because I went on a rainy Monday night in November when most other bars around them were closed, but Deadline was a real gem in the Pioneer Square area! Loved the exposed brick and high ceilings of the place, and when I saw the bar with a choice selection of whisky and liquors, I was already looking forward to the experience. The bartenders here are great - hospitality and solid cocktails all around. I asked for some of my usual classics like the Red Hook and Martinez. ended with the bartender's recommendation which was an Irish whiskey called the Dead Rabbit, which was a nice upgrade from a Jamesons without hitting the wallet too hard. Not sure how it would be on game day, but this was really the perfect spot for a drink while in Pioneer Square on a rainy Monday. read more

I heard great things about deadline and although I really like the ambiance and vibe I thought the drinks and food were just okay. I heard rave reviews about the burger but mine came out over cooked and dry and they didn't ask how I wanted it prepared. Shockingly they also didn't ask how we wanted our steak prepared but fortunately that came out better with just the right amount of pink in the middle. We also ordered pozole which was pretty good. This is all based on the experience of the food, the staff, the appearance, the space, and the lasting impression. For context, I just found this place the day of. I went in blind with no expectations other than reading the menu to make sure they had things I could eat (peanut/seafood allergies) and looking at images of the space. I feel like the vibe of the restaurant doesn't match the image of it, perhaps. Here are a few bullet points about the space/experience instead of some self-serving paragraph: * the dark space + the warm table lighting presents the entire experience as intimate. *The music can get pretty loud for such a small, intimate-looking spot. This ends up making you have to yell across the table to make sure your table mate (and inadvertently your neighbors) can hear you. I honestly don't get a rock or loud music vibe from the space, but I do respect and love the creative freedom in the workplace. * the staff feels a bit distant and uninterested (I get it tho) which in this current Seattle season is detrimental. It's cold and rainy now. Warmth matters on many levels. * it's colder by the entrance (like very cold) so dress appropriately * the little table lamps and flowers are cute as hell and we appreciated them since it's kind of dark inside. We ordered: The Spanish Fried Rice with Chicken (2/5) The Chorizo Meatballs (4/5) The Fig and Lemon Parfait (3/5) I Touch Roses (4/5) Coyote & The Columbia (4.5/5) *The Spanish fried rice (2/5) was a bit underwhelming. It had the natural Spanish rice flavor but could've used a bit of spice for heat and the mix of textures with the chicken (not diced or made smaller) and mushrooms among other things made it hard to get a fork-full. It's a pretty chaotic dish and because of all these factors, isn't fun to eat. *The Chorizo Meatballs (4/5) ended up being our favorite dish. The entire thing was flavorful and the charred/crisp texture of the arepitas set it over the top. The only drawback was that the meatballs were kind of dry. Made it hard to break them up and reduced the flavor overall. Still good though. * The Fig and Lemon Parfait (3/5) was something we were excited about. Loved the concept, but we ended up having expectations (our fault ) The cream/lemon part was a bit more like Italian ice rather than yogurt or custard, which was still cool, but very lemony and acidic. The fig portion at the bottom helps to balance it out a bit, but it was still pretty zesty/tart in flavor. The candied walnuts were our least favorite part, unfortunately. They were lacking in both texture and flavor. There was no firmness to the walnuts which made them dissolve in your mouth, and with no flavor, it made them the thing we only ate to ground the already acidic dessert. Maybe toasted or spiced, they'd add a wider range of flavor and texture to the dish. (drink reviews are brief because we didn't take photos and that's an important part) * The Coyote & Columbia (4/5) (not pictured) was a surprisingly great cocktail. It had a simple, yet pleasing look to it. The flavor was smooth and full with a spooky smoothness to it. It was kind of hard to stop drinking it My only qualm was that it felt like a light pour (maybe that's why it was so smooth) *I Touch Roses (4/5) was good all around, but the presentation was a bit dull. No true complaints. All in all, I do recommend experiencing it for yourself and making your own conclusions about this restaurant. With a 3/5 rating, this is something worth returning to, because Dead Line has the potential to be a 5/5 experience for all. I plan to come back again, honestly. Gorgeous bar and restaurant, bar tender was great and the food looked fantastic. However, one catch. The fried chicken in the sandwich was terrible. It was probably the grease in the frier. It tasted burnt and dirty. So I'll allow for an oversight, however, when I mention it to the bartender the chef comes out and says "We filter the grease daily". Then walks back into the kitchen. No offer to replace the dish, not even an apology, nothing. The friendly bartender drops off the bill with a 20% discount. I'm the only one in the restaurant and it's lunchtime. I leave my plate, pay the tab and walk down the street to eat somewhere else. So I would not recommend this place just under the principle that they do not care about the customer. read more

Came here for a birthday dinner and had an overall good time! On a Tuesday in January the place was completely empty, so it was almost like having the place to ourselves. Quite satisfied with the overall experience and would return! It was served with lemon to squeeze on top and with two sauces: some kind of tartar and a salsa verde. Honestly, the salsa verde didn't really make sense with it, but the tartar was a good pairing. Spanish rice with chorizo: 3/5 - very flavorful, but had some burnt/charred bits that were difficult to chew. The chorizo pieces were tasty, but a bit awkwardly large to grab with the fork in the rice. Dead Line burger: 5/5 - solid burger! Ordered medium and it was cooked perfectly, very juicy, with a good balance of other burger fillings. The bun was nicely toasted and wasn't soggy. It comes with a choice of fries or a salad, and I got the fries - and did not regret it. Very fresh and crispy fries, medium-thick cut, piping hot with a good balance of salt. I can't tell which was worse: the food or the service. The empanadas were good but the duck was terrible. I was excited to try the duck but it was so salty, I had to spit it out. We sat at the chef's table and had one of the best meals of our life. Every dish was unbelievable, with the quesadilla being a major standout. The chefs were amazing to talk to and had a serious passion for food. Their sauce work stood out heavily, with the pasilla basil sauce for the empanadas and their in-house hot sauces being stars. The salsa verde for the quesadilla could be bottled and sold by the gallon. My group had someone who didn't like Brussels sprouts up until this meal and another had never had a better mushroom dish in their life. The avocado mousse that usually goes with brunch was given to us for the burger we also ordered and one person remarked that they'll never appreciate avocados the same way again. The chefs were extremely kind, suggesting what was best to order and letting us try their many sauces. It elevated the service to another level. Mary, one of our wait staff, was informative, friendly, and attentive. Oussama was also excellent with making sure we were well taken care of. The drinks we had were amazing and having fantastic mocktails available was a nice touch. We ended up spending almost 3 hours just enjoying food and the laid back atmosphere of the evening. This will easily be a return restaurant for me. I'm already dying to try the dishes we missed, including the mole chicken wings, which sounded divine. The parmesan fries and calamari, while we didn't get either, had me salivating even as I was stuffed, watching them go to other tables. My husband and I made it through winter thanks to Dead Line. A cozy, intimate space in historic Pioneer Square, with original brick texture and a welcoming vibe. This place deserves more attention than it gets! Warm lighting, an illuminated bar with some very rare elixirs, and mixologists that love their craft almost as much as they love sharing it. This place has one of the best happy hours in Seattle. The mushroom quesadilla is my HH go to. Hopefully they keep that on menu forever.
