GOAT. HOT. POT. My husband and I were here on Thanksgiving Day. I was so glad they were open because it was pouring rain the whole day. Hot pot was just the perfect meal on a [humid] rainy day. (They are usually closed on Wed and Thu.) Not only was the food deadass delicious, but the server guy was hella happy. Joy was radiating from him. He even offered us some delicious cake that came from the bakery next door. Goat hot pot was served on a portable stove - the kind with the gas canisters. Everything was in the pot already except for the veggies (I think it was A choy/Taiwanese lettuce) and noodles. The red sauce tasted hella fermented by itself, but it was great with the goat meat. I also got the combination broken rice. It came with a nicely fried egg over the rice and different types of meat. For two people, this was more than enough food. We took home the leftovers. Food, Lâu De was not as flavorful as before. Grill De was also not as plentiful as before. I'm not sure why, but the flavor and the plentiful of the food have decreased dramatically. 5.5/10 The service was average... the normal bring out the pot, the sauce and water. We were a party of 5 and I have to say we were never told that a 20% service charges was going to be added until we went to pay for the bill. The server never even came to our table to check if we needed additional sauces, napkins or even if anything was additional needed to be charging us 20% for the service. 6/10. This restaurant isn't located in the best area but its unique because it serves goat about 8 different ways, whereas most Vietnamese restaurants do not even serve goat period. If you want goat testicle, they have it here. The floor is sticky, and decor is minimal, and there wasn't even any customers the evening I visited, but once the food started coming out, I started to breathe easier. I ordered 3 different versions, a small goat hot pot, sliced steamed goat, and grilled goat chops. My favorite was easily the goat chops, due to the flavor and it was the spiciest dish. Hot pot - this dish comes out in a pot and heats on your table until boiling. It contains various veggies and lots of chunks of steamed mostly boneless goat....good flavor. Sliced and steamed - my 2nd favorite dish. Goat is prepared similar to a Vietnamese pork lunch meat with black peppercorn and sliced. By itself, its nothing special but when you make rolls out of it with herb leaves and dip it in their special stinky sauce. It tastes pretty good. Make sure to squirt lime juice in the sauce/ paste. Chops - these are curried chops, then grilled. Only negative is they contain a lot of glutinous material and each chop is either fatty or chewy once you remove the bone. I removed most of it to get to the meat. You can eat them alone, or make lettuce wraps with their special sauce provided. Similar to other chops, not a lot of meat, but this dish is all about flavor. Only slightly spicy from the curry power and some red pepper flakes. Overall, dining here was a unique experience and one you probably won't find anywhere else in Houston. Its just a different way of cooking. I can't comment on their other dishes such as pho or hue, so I can only recommend the goat. read more

I would recommend this place to people since this is the closest flavor I have found to Vietnam. My favorites: -Goat hot pot -Steamed sliced Goat meat (fav! I eat a whole plate myself!) -stir fry slice goat meat -grilled goat ribs -grilled slice goat meat They used to have grilled goat breasts, which sounds gross, but is a delicacy. Not sure if they can't find a supplier or permanently removed from menu. I love their dipping sauces! Very strong and fermented, which is the best part! I came in with an open mind because I needed something quick on my way to work. I was around the area and wanted some rice plate and a small order of spring rolls. When I came in, the person taking my order was not even wearing the mask correctly. She had it under her chin. Aside from that, she was singing and talking and yelling and did not even take my order for the spring rolls. After I ordered she told me it would take 10 minutes. The order took over 25 minutes. When I got my rice plate, she forgot to tell them about my spring rolls. I had to wait another 10 minutes. Was very inconvenient for me to stop by, didn't think it was worth it. When I finally ate my meal I noticed how the meat was dry and the rice was also dry. The spring rolls were bland and unimpressive. not only that I felt unsafe to be there, it doesn't seem like they are taking covid procedures cautiously. You know when you go to an Asian restaurant and they have like 100 items on the menu but you can't figure out what you want? Then the dish you order was disappointing so you figured you just ordered what the restaurant doesn't specialize in? Forgive my terribly worded question but you know what I mean?? It was like a slap in the face because it's a staple to the Vietnamese household and soooo simple to make. I ended up dipping my egg rolls in it and it was just horrid. Egg rolls are not worth ordering either. Sorry. Bo ne (steak & eggs) is a no. Just no. The pate is placed on the hot, sizzling cast iron so instead of spreadable pate you have firm, cooked liver. The steak is literally a poor quality, slab of beef that you have to cut up. Call me lazy but you seriously cannot put that piece of cow in between the banh mi. Cooked liver + no butter spread + a whole steak + banh mi = good luck. My bf, who is not very hard to please, wasn't satisfied with his com suon nuong (rice & pork chop). I felt bad cause I dragged him to the place lol. I realized that this restaurant is catered to the Viet folks that like thit de (goat meat) and the other unique dishes you can't find in the area. I ordered 2 big size goat hotpot and 2 orders of grilled goat. They all tasted really good. The soup was awesome, along with enough vegetables for me to dip in the hotpot. It didn't really have any goat's stink. Grilled goat had some tendon parts which were really delicious, it comes with grilled okra btw. The sauces came with it is good too. The only 1 thing that I'm not really happy is they charge the dipping sauce for $1 if we ask for extra. I ordered 2 big size of hotpot which could serve 10 people, but there were only 2 dipping sauces. When I asked for extra, they charged more, which I think restaurant needs to consider. The place is a bit far away from Bellarie but employees were nice and friendly. Overall, the food is awesome too so I highly recommend this place if you're looking for goat hotpot and grilled goat. The best and the only restaurant in Houston that mainly serves goat meat (thit de). My family and I drove for 35 minutes and definitely worth it. The price is pretty fair with the quality of the dish and the amount of meats in it. Very authentic!!! We ordered de hap, de rua man and lau de. They all were delicious, very similar to the taste in Vietnam. The meats were moist and tender. My family and I will definitely come back here for more dishes. Bingo! Finally! A Vietnamese restaurant NOT only worthy to stay at its location, but probably one of the top 5 on Veterans Memorial Drive. Hiiii folks, I'm here to tell you a little about this death trap of a location that used to be a Mexican Restaurant, then a Vietnamese restaurant with the worst crawfish you would have EVER tasted in your whole life and some to spare to finally this, yes THIS. I get so excited when I think of how finally close it is to home and don't have to go all the way to Beaumont for the spiciest Bun Bo Hue you, and your taste buds, and your stomach, and your intestines and your anu........well let's just say that you better hope it doesn't burn as much going out as it does in. I made a review of two Viet restaurants in Beaumont that beats all Houston restaurants as far as the flavor and spiciness until this champion stepped into the ring. These people don't play, you will hurt yourself (if they serve you the same caliber of spiciness they did me), and you will hurt anybody that tries to take your soup away, it's that good and it's that close. Please, whoever cooks this in the back, even though it is ridiculously spicy, do not change the recipe, it's unique,it's a bowl of soup from the lava river from hell. Now that I got that out of the way, you can go ahead and survey around the restaurant and notice that there are hot pot style family style foods ($35) that cater to the taste buds of goat loving meatatarians. It is a pretty good set up and based on what I saw, it's worth at least a try. The fried egg rolls, fresh, not flash deep fried after being cooked halfway (half of the restaurants in Houston are guilty of this), very crispy and not oily. You get three for about $2.50. The fish sauce that comes with it is a tangy sweet, add your red chili pepper to taste for the custom zing. Banh mi bo: The steak, egg, pate and toasted bread dish which used to be around $14 under the previous owners is now a reasonable $8, but not the same quality of meat. It is something unique if you are a first time to Vietnamese food and curious what this dish is all about but hold on, if you tried it and liked it, there are a lot better places in Houston that does it better, this is just a gateway price/food to let you know what the Vietnamese cooks are capable of. By the way, this also comes out sizzling on an iron cast like fajitas. The pork chop, egg, rice, and salad dish is perfect for those that don't want half of Wilber the oink in front of them but want to savor the taste that is on par with a good quality staple dish. What is unique about this dish here compared to other restaurants (and so few) is that they grill the pork (one) chop from start to finish, it is very tender. If you've gone to other places you can tell that you've gotten something that was halfway cooked on par for the next day because it's almost like pork jerky, well maybe not THAT tough but almost close enough. If you want to introduce anybody to the dish so that they get one of the best around, this is the place to get it. Pho, I like it, I love it, I wanted more of it, I tried, so hard, but I couldn't finish it....it's not a gigantic bowl but there are a lot of different parts of the moo swimming in it that will sample you enough to balance out what you get so that you're not just stuck on one or two types of "meats". There was a sense of the star anise, cinnamon, ginger, the whole crew was in the bowl. If you've eaten enough Pho in your life, you'll be able to tell that care and the ancestorial legend was put into this bowl. Service.....uh.... well, you'll get to get your order taken, you'll get a good taste bud experience here but you might not get a refill unless you bring your water cup (or whatever you're drinking) up to the counter. It's a stop, drop and roll...away.....and stay away type service but that was just the two of the three times that I came here. I'm sure things are probably better but I'm not holding my breath for my visits The restaurant is clean, the bathrooms seemed like they got a good renovation, and there's even @gasp soap! And you don't have to jerk off the soap dispenser to get any soap out, everything works in here! Oh, to the left wing of the establishment there is a wooden patio that would make a good place to enjoy the outdoor, just be alert because the surrounding neighborhood is kind of sketchy. I have a feeling that this one is going to be around for a while, they have the variety, the taste, the price and almost the service going for them. There are about three televisions in here and one of them seem to always be playing some kind of hometown Hollywood show that might interest you. I have one request folks, if you do try the bun bo hue and they put it at their regular strength, please, PLEASE message me and tell me about how spicy it was for you. This place doesn't need costumers. We called ahead and asked what time they closed, they said 8pm while it still left 10pm on Yelp. We arrived at 7.15pm but we saw the open sign was closed, so I came in and asked if they still received orders dine in, and this guy said they close already. My family and I love to come here for "De Nuong" (BBQ goat meat), "De Xao Lan" (sauteed goat meat, served with a loaf of warm bread - so good!!!), "Cari De" (yellow curry with goat meat", "Doi Hap" (steamed blood sausages), "De Nhua Man" (a very special Vietnamese goat stew with sesame, served with either rice or rice noodles), and "Lau De" (goat hot pot). Man the place is cool . I love Vietnamese food . The service was pretty quick . The spring rolls look neat and full but they left the tails one some of my shrimp...also never experienced this before ...nice looking spring rolls with nasty tails and some of the vermicelli inside was hard. My only other issue is I ordered a Vietnamese coffee ....and they gave me half a cup of my drink . I was told that that's how Vietnamese coffees come but idk I've ordered many Vietnamese coffees before and never received no half a cup of anything ...like literally you could see the ice and the second half of my cup before you could see the coffee .
