We planned a trip with our exchange students family flying in from Spain. Unfortunately, our trip had to be cancelled when President Trump closed the borders to flights from Europe. My husband spent a long time negotiating trying to get a refund for our tickets. Sadly, DC Trails was unwilling to do anything but give a 6 month extension for our tickets. Clearly, this will not work. Our Spanish friends cannot come in 6 months and now our exchange student has returned to Spain. DC Trails has been less than helpful. I cannot imagine ever considering their service again. By the way, every single business we dealt with to cancel gladly gave a full refund. read more

When available, I take a double decker big bus tour of every city I visit to get a general layout of the land and some history of the buildings and architecture that encompass it. The first couple tour guides were just average, however we were sitting closer to the back and it was hard to hear them as well. We decided to hop off for a while, get lunch, and hope for a shift change. Dion Blackhall was the tour guide when we hopped back on the bus and he completely changed our DC Trails experience! Dion was friendly, informative, and funny. He went above and beyond to make the tour enjoyable and interesting! This would be a 5/5 star rating if just based on our experience with Dion. Thank you Dion! :) read more

DC Trails - On DC Trails Bus Tour with our friendly and informative guide Dion. Thank you Dion! - Buses Near Me - Lorton, Virginia

Tour guides were awesome! Wish the pick up/drop off locations were marked better, mostly had to find where other tour buses were or call office to confirm location. But tours all great spots and guides are very knowledgeable read more

Bus takes about 30 minutes for the next bus to come. So you waste a lot of time waiting for the bus. Which is unfortunate. Their busses are usually crowded and finding a seat is sometimes difficult. During our time waiting for this bus we saw 4 or 5 big bus tour buses and two town trolley buses. This is probably the lower end of hop on and off buses as they go. Tour guides were not too helpful. One of them talked a lot about the BBQ festival and how she wanted to go. She provided little facts. I would recommend another bus service. Anyone else would work better. read more

Absolutely shocking, do not purchase tickets for this hop on hop off service. The frequency is disgustingly poor. The wait was so long on both days that we had to spend an additional $40 on taxi fares to get around. DO NOT PURCHASE FROM THIS COMPANY!!! In response to your reply. No, I definitely will not use you again. My sister was with me who is unable to walk or stand for long periods. Your company made our whole weekend a disaster. read more

I don't get to travel much, so when I get a rare opportunity it really means a lot when I get a guide that really cares. Deion (I hope I spelled that right) was that guide. He told me he's only been with DC trails for a year and a half but he studies to learn all the fun trivia and neat facts about all the stops. Boy does he ever! He knows so many great facts and blow your mind details that I actually googled some of them because they sounded so far fetched! Nope! 100% accurate!! If I come to DC again, I will make sure to ask for him, worth every penny. The twilight tour was amazing, and I had some incredible memories to take home to CA. Thanks Deion!!!! read more

Says one star which I had to choose or it wouldn't post but I give negative 5 stars I purchased 2 tix for me and my 12 year old daughter for DC trails bus and were treated horribly. I've never been treated so rudely by a driver and crew. Then after boarding we were dropped off at our first stop and never picked up again. The buses never stopped at the pickup points. Just drove right by. We walked all day around DC and had to take 2 Uber's as well. After sending 2 emails for a refund to no response they finally answered and they refused read more

I booked this company as my parents were coming in town and I figured this was the best way to see the major city sites. This tour was so much more! We really enjoyed our guide, Dion! He was so knowledgeable and provided non-stop entertainment throughout the tour! read more

1. This company does not have enough buses to meet demand. They say there will be one every 10-15 minutes, we were left standing at the Air & Space (one of the first stops) for more than 40 minutes before we had to WALK to find the nearest bus. That bus took us immediately back to L'Efant Plaza (THE BEGINNING) to start ALL OVER. We lost well over an HOUR to get back on path. Then got stuck the VERY NEXT TIME WE GOT OFF (at Ford's Theater). WALKED TO WHITE HOUSE (there were EIGHT of us, including small children), losing ANOTHER HOUR in the process. 2. WORSE: When you call the "Help" number they claim there are buses that will be there "in 10 minutes" - even while you look at their own App showing NO BUSES ANYWHERE NEAR. Then they rudely tell you the app "doesn't show all the buses", like it isn't then ridiculous to tell you to download an app that doesn't work, but to also suggest this is somehow YOUR FAULT. Also, the app DOES appear to show all the buses, as we personally witnessed by their absence where we were waiting. I.e. they will lie about how many buses they have out. 3. Buses themselves have NO QUALITY CONTROL. The first had a crappy sound system you could not hear and no tour guide. You could take a cab or Uber to each stop for less and faster if you don't want a narrated guide. The second had a tour guide, but was filthy, with a cracked top deck windshield, and the guide offering STRONG political opinions regardless of who might be on the bus. The third bus was clean, but the guide rudely chastised anyone for even briefly talking while she did. (Suggestion: TAKE A BREATH so people can comment on what they are seeing). WOULD NOT RECOMMEND UNLESS YOU WANT TO LOSE HOURS OF YOUR DAY FOR RUDE STAFF AND RANDOM QUALITY OF SERVICE. We watched numerous "Big Bus" buses come and go at stops while waiting for DC Trail....they cost more but would have gladly paid more to actually get what we paid for. We will be seeking a refund/dispute of charges for this lost day. read more

I called tonight to make a reservation, and I was put on hold twice by a woman. After a 5 minute wait, I was talking to her about the reservation I was looking to make. All of a sudden, a guy jumped on the line and said: "Sir! Sir! Ma'am! We have an emergency here and I need her to help" and then hung up on me. I took offense to being called Sir when I have a female voice. There was no apology. He was completely rude. I'm glad I did not give them any of my money. read more

minus 10 stars post it on fb today! friends and family we went threw hell because of dc trails!! so you will see this post every single day!!! until i get a refund and an apology!! sorry. do not buy hop on hop off tickets for dc trails!!! and also dont buy them on groupon... they have refused to refund money after dc trails hop on hop off failed to fulfill their obligation of showing up at the stops to pick us up!! and of failure to make the the stop at the wwii memorial... leaving us stranded for 2 hours at lincoln memorial and the same at the white house welcoming center. because of this we were only able to see three places of the 22 on their list!! we wete able to do a few on a free circulator bus!! that we found out about later that does the interational mall!! save yourself money... take the circulator bus that had we know you could just hop on one we would have done as we saw many as we waited for dc trails!!! also if you are healthy and have good working legs... you can walk from one museum to another and most of the memorials if its not hot!!! when we finally used the circulator bus the next day we were dropped of at tge smithsonian museum of natural history then from there we went to usda cafeteria and as we came out we actually saw the washington monument there within walking distance!!! the only one you really need a bus for is arlington cemetery... and you could just uber it from the lincoln memorial for a few bucks and worth it!!! if you do want hop on hop off still... use tge trolley, we always daw them!! wish i had used them. they came around every 15 20 minutes ... i know i watched them while waiting and waiting and sometimes chasing down ours as they drove by!! dc trails owes us at the very least .... a refund!!! i have attempted to contact them on their fb page do far no reply!! so my rating is "minus" 10 stars!! bianca johnson read more

This tour was awesome! Hop on hop off bus with very knowledgeable tour guides and very professional drivers. Priced right and well worth the money. This was our biggest mistake on this trip. The bus was hot and stuffy inside and smelled like diesel exhaust up top. The "tour" portion was difficult to hear and didn't actually add any value to the bus. The DC Circulator was a much better option with air conditioning and better frequency. The staff was not unfriendly. read more

So so bad. Waited 60-90 minutes. Terrible customer service. Saw TONS of buses from other tours such as Old Town and BIG B. Strongly recommend you NOT use this service read more

We bought 6 tickets through Groupon to use when family visited from out of town. Two were elderly veterans. We called them several times to find the DC Trails stop. They told us where it was and we waited there for almost an hour and it never came. Finally called an Uber to get us around. Tickets are non-refundable. We used to use Old Towne Trolly and figured that DC Trails would be the same. It definitely was not. Next time we will use Old Towne again. read more

Got a great deal on Groupon for the 48 hour bus pass including the night tour. Due to the discount I chose DC Trails over BigBus. PRO'S Convenient Great price Henry on the night tour is a great guide. Convenient CONS Seem to have the least amount of buses ot of the tour companies. Limited route. Long wait times. read more

We arrived right when a bus took off (which is totally understandable). However, we were told the next bus will take off in 30 minutes (we were told that the bus takes off every 30 minutes). We then went for a walk and returned in 20 minutes, only to see the bus take off. Once I asked the DC Trail rep, he instantly was rude, and disrespectful. He stated the bus was completely full (which was a LIE), and that we should have returned sooner. I then stated he gave us false information, and that he should say the bus can take off within a specific timeframe or when the bus is full. Had he said that we would not have left. I then asked for a refund, he was extremely rude as to how to get my refund. Secondly, the bus schedule was extremely erratic, they were not every 30 minutes as stated (it was all over the place). I understand 1 bus had a flat tire, however their schedule was awful. DO NOT RIDE DC TRAILS - use any other service - or WALK - that's better than DC Trails!! read more

Bus service was terrible. Slow and unreliable. I will never use this tour again waited over an hour and a half for bus back from Arlington

App didn't work to show where the buses were. Wait time was longer than 30-45 minutes at a stop. Got tickets for a family of 4 and I honestly didn't see the value. Should have gone with the more expensive Big Bus tickets bc I saw those way more often. Definitely disappointed and wish I had saved our money. read more

We should have checked the Yelp rating before buying the Groupon while visiting family near Washington DC. This was our first visit back there and due to my limited mobility, we signed up for a 6.5 hour guided tour to take place on April 1st at 10am. We arrived at the appointed location at 9:30 and were told our trip was cancelled, but we could come back tomorrow or take that day trip to Mt Vernon, or use the HopOn HopOff service. We did not travel 3,000 to wait until tomorrow after travelling in from Virginia on the Metro. We paid Groupon for the 6.5 hour guided tour and not the HOHO service. The driver and the guide were fine and we enjoyed Mr Goodman and the person speaking from the top of the bus - not their fault, but to be told when we showed up and the temperature on Monday, April 1st with the windchill was approximately 27 degrees. We will never use this service again as we do hope to re-visit WA DC at some point. read more

Please do not waste your money with this company. The company does not care about the safety of their customers. There is not enough seating inside the bus to accommodate the number of people scheduled for the tour, so there were 6 people standing on the bus. It was 40 degrees outside and the tour is 3.5 hours long. The tour guide stated that everyone must return to their original seat after each stop, but there were no assigned seats. Please find a different company that will not force you to stand for 3.5 hours or sit in 40 degree weather! Horrible service! The bus driver was pleasant, but the tour guide was rude and unprofessional. read more

I wish I could give less than 1 star....do not book them, use one of the others. We waited more than an hour for a bus and finally got on it. The guy said there was only one bus. We hopped off to see the Lincoln Memorial but after another hour just started using Uber to get around. We saw plenty of the other bus company double deckers but not more than one of this. Called CS and she was rude and said she really couldn't help me and I would just have to look for a stop and wait. read more

Very great service! It does 30 minute intervals at all stops, which is just enough time to see the minor attractions and hop back on if you're fast enough. Honorable mention to Driver Cruz and the master of ceremonies Andrew (? I think) on Sunday morning. Aug 13th. The gentleman that runs the shuttle from Lincoln to Arlington, Anthony, was extremely personable and amazingly hospitable. My favorite is the night tour, they are constrained by the general hours of the municipality, so the night tour started at 7pm. Go there during the time of year when the sun sets at 7pm or soon after for the best effect. The night views are amazing. We had Britney as our tour guide for the night trip and she was an absolute doll. They take you off at close to a dozen stops and the tour guide walks you through the monuments and gives historical background on each. Brittney was very affable, knowledgeable, and made it very a memorable trip. All of the crew members of this company we're great, efficient, and hopefully they stand out amongst the competition, as they should! read more

It appears to be the worse Hop-on/off in DC. The Big Bus has excellent signs that show drop off-pick up stops. DC Trails lack of signage which caused me to question if I was in the right spot. It seemed like we just missed every bus which caused us to waste a ton of time waiting. As we waited at The Lincoln Memorial, we saw three Big Buses come and go (2 trolleys, 2 City Sites). We later learned that one of their buses were down. Finally, I only liked one of the guides (the only guide). We were going to get off at the next stop (The Vietnam Memorial), but he was so good we were going to take the entire tour with him. But he was so enthusiastic about The White House Visitor Center and telling us that this was one thing we had to do before 4:30. Since we were leaving at 2 and we weren't sure we'd get back there, we hopped off. We waited another 40 minutes and we hopped on the worse bus (baby & no air). People please leave your infants and toddlers at home. They don't understand anything and it isn't a fun activity for them. It's not fair for everyone to miss hearing about the sites because your child is fussing. read more

My family and I purchased tickets for the hop-on, hop-off bus because we thought it would be a fun way to experience Washington. It promised around 20 stops at attractions all throughout the city and a convenient way to get from place to place. However, the bus did not quite deliver on its promises. We were told that we either needed to stop at the bus ticket office to get our bus tickets or we could go directly to the bus. We rode the metro train to L'Enfant Plaza, where the ticket office was supposedly located. After looking around the plaza for at least 10-15 minutes, we could not find the ticket booth, even after asking people where it was! Eventually, we decided to just go outside, where we were able to get on the bus that was waiting there. When we got on the bus, there was a bit of trouble scanning the codes that we had printed out, and one code ultimately did not work, but we were allowed on the bus anyway. We thought that once we got on the bus, our experience would get better, but unfortunately, the bus simply continued to over-promise and under-deliver. The bus was advertised to begin running at 9; however, we got on the bus around 9:30 and had to wait until 10 for the bus to start moving! In the meantime, there was a man explaining the route of the bus to us and the few other passengers. In the half hour we were waiting, we got to hear his little spiel three times. We asked what sort of schedule the buses were on, and we were told that the buses would be at each stop "about every half an hour." At 10, the bus started running, and we were able to take the bus to the Museum of American History. On the way to the museum, the tour guide was talking about the sites we were driving by, but his microphone was extremely loud and there was often high-pitched feedback. He also did not allow anyone to stand on the bus, despite the bus having a rail to hold and a spot that was presumably for people to stand in. We were able to get off at the museum and we spent a few hours looking around in the area. Around 3:30, we wanted to get back on the bus. We were by Ford's Theater and Madame Tussaud's, so we decided to get on at the Madame Tussaud's/Hotel Harrington stop. We waited over half an hour for the bus, since there were no set arrival times, but not a single DC Trails bus showed up as we watched hundreds of other buses drive by. The takeaway: these buses have zero accountability. There is no set bus schedule and the tour is mediocre at best. The other bus services for tourists seem to work much more efficiently and provide a service that is actually usable. This bus is essentially worthless and I would recommend choosing a different hop-on hop-off bus service! read more

My sister and I used the on and off service all day with a 2 day pass we got on Groupon. It was $56 a person. Included in the price was a free night tour. It was a cold night on Memorial Day week but we all still rode up top to see the sights. The day service and staff were pleasant. The lower level was great when it started to pour outside. Buses came often and had plenty of room. The tour guides were ok. We have to talk about the night tour! It was exceptional! The guide was amazing. The driver and staff working that night were top notch. One of the highlights of our trip! read more

I thought this started off great... but, we got off the bus and at every single stop they emphasized "we will be stopping here for 30 seconds, please bring all your belongings. If you get off at this stop, we will pick you up at this stop."... cool, so we walked around for an hour or so... we go to the stop and the app says it will be 20 minutes until the next bus. That's fine, we are enjoying the winter sun. Soooooo... we see the bus two blocks down, we stand RIGHT NEXT to the sign on the pole. The bus slow rolls, doesn't stop or open its doors, and KEEPS GOING. Heated. Called the costumer service line to say something. Basically said that that's nice and it's "noted". read more

This tour is an embarrassment to our nation's Capitol -- avoid at all costs. The bus may look appealing, as it is a double-decker, but there are so few of them, you will likely wait 30-45 minutes for one to arrive. The tour is almost laughably bad. The guides know nothing about history or the city of Washington, DC. Essentially, you ride in silence, and then someone comes on to say "Here is stop 8." Important buildings and landmarks were not pointed out. The "guide" was clearly reading off a script as she repeated herself verbatim more than once, usually pertaining to some business that likely pays the tour company to mention them. The guide pointed out food courts (!), fast food restaurants, and the Madame Tussauds Wax Museum (twice), but not historic markers. She spoke so quickly, and the quality of the audio was so poor, that we could barely understand her. At one stop she simply said, "You can get off here and do whatever you want I guess." We got off after 5 or 6 stops because the tour was completely worthless. You are better off trying one of the other companies or arranging for a private tour. DC Trails is a scam. read more

Pick ANY other tour company. They're supposed to stop at each location every 30 minutes, that's completely untrue. We even downloaded the app so we could track the buses. We sat at stop #3 for almost 1.5 hours watching every other tour companies bus stop at our location, while the app showed multiple DC Trails buses sitting at the home-base (stop #1). I found this tour to be a complete waste of my time and money here in DC. read more

It's almost a perfect day until you hop on and they tell you to go up the deck because there's no aircon inside the bus.
