It's free. It may not be quick all the time due to traffic in the area, but it will get you where you need to go and back. The only stops it makes are Kennedy Center and Foggy Bottom Metro. Location (Foggy Bottom Metro): There is a "Kennedy Center Shuttle" sign located on 23rd Street NW, DC. It is located near the exits for Foggy Bottom Metro and George Washington University Hospital. Once you see the shuttle sign, just wait there until the next shuttle arrives. The area in front of the shuttle sign can get a bit congested at times with other vehicles. Not to worry. If there are other vehicles stopped in that area, the shuttle will move a little closer to the traffic light that is near there, and pick/drop people off from that spot. It's all about safety. Location (Kennedy Center): They have a sign on the curb outside the Kennedy Center for the shuttle. If you are facing the building, look to your left. It will be by the entrance to the Hall of Nations. Once you get in the shuttle, grab a seat. Once all seats are taken, you can stand in the aisle and grab one of the handles hanging from the bars above. They are not very comfortable as the drive is not a straight one all the way. If you don't want to stand, you can always wait for the next shuttle (they run approximately every 15 minutes). Used the Kennedy Center Shuttle for the first time last weekend and I got to say I am a fan. Prior to this I usually either paid for parking or for a ride. There are times those option are good depending on the show and with whom you might be attending but metro and the shuttle are an excellent option as well. Honestly this may make me more Kennedy Center friendly. The shuttle was just so easy. It pulls up to the sidewalk at the top of the escalator. The shuttles were clean and the drivers were pleasant. Hats off to the Kennedy Center for having this free shuttle right next to Foggy Bottom Metro stop. With major road arteries nearby and not familiar with my surroundings I was glad that there was one waiting for us to board. The driver is even helpful to handicapped individuals in allowing them extra time. It is a nice clean bus and drops you off within a matter of minutes to the vehicle drop off area of the Kennedy Center. At the Kennedy Center it is located just outside the hall of nations. If there is a show going on then there are plenty of shuttles to whisk you back to Foggy Bottom. There is a taxi line outside the hall of States. Nevertheless we had an enjoyable ride and no worries about driving the car, getting lost in the construction in this area, and trying to park in their north side garage. read more

odd thing. we'd seen the shuttle before, but never thought about it or asked about it. no idea where it went, etc. this time, as usual we dropped the car off in KC parking, and headed out. we were headed for Smithsonian Air & Space, so we called an Uber. 9 min. not ideal but it is what it is. as it reached 3 min to pickup, the driver apparently cancelled the ride. wtf. called another. now 11 min. ok, whatever. got to 3 min to pickup and stayed there. wtf again. texted the driver with how to recognize me & he replied that a car had hit him & I should cancel and call another car. holy mackerel. we asked where the shuttle went, found out it was Foggy Bottom metro. that works - just a few stops to Air & Space. we used to walk to that station all the time, but I use a cane now, so it's a longish walk for me these days. driver was taciturn but polite. ride was relatively quick & comfortable. we'll certainly use it again. read more

Best ever. It's free. When you are going out for a night of arts you really just want to enjoy the show. But dealing with downtown DC logistics is a double-pain when you know the show is starting soon and you are sitting in a parking lot of traffic. But the (free) shuttle is a saving grace. When you get off at the Foggy Bottom metro stop the magic shuttle is always right there just waiting for you. This wonderful (completely free) little shuttle can stack in more peeps than you would think. You just hop on in and they get you there faster than you can walk. Trust me. Plus! There's no charge. No fuss. You just hop on and hop off without paying a dime. Why on earth did we deal with Uber before? or taxi ...or walking...or driving.. or anything else besides this FREE shuttle. By the way it's one hundred percent free. This is the best invention ever. Unbelievable folks. I can't believe this is so FREE and easy. When you are done with the show. I've never thought to review it before, but now that I'm here, I'm happy to give the Shuttle an enthusiastic 5 stars. As you emerge from the Foggy Bottom metro, the shuttle is almost always there waiting to ship you right over to the Kennedy Center (for free, as the other reviews have noted, though you can tip your driver). Even if you happen to just miss it, there will be another shuttle coming around in a matter of minutes. If you're almost always late, like me, this service is a godsend. Coming back, you can face a bit of a wait to get on since usually an event has just ended and everyone has exactly the same idea. But the shuttles are smart, and there are usually a few lined up. Also, the drivers are so, so nice. A few months ago, I left my umbrella on a shuttle. When I got back on at the Kennedy Center, I asked the driver about it; he asked around about it on his walkie talkie-type device, and as it turns out, it had been left on another shuttle. I thought, well, that's unfortunate, but that's that. That was, however, not that at all. Both shuttles, upon approaching each other, stopped, and the drivers did an umbrella relay for me. It was incredibly nice and thoughtful - neither of them had to do that. And all of the drivers are just really courteous in general. I really don't know what more you could ask for in a shuttle. read more

I absolutely love the Kennedy Center Shuttle. I think there should be shuttles like this all over DC, especially important places that are not near a metro. I have used the shuttle at least 4 times over the past 3 years, and every time I use it I am satisfied. The drivers are nice and there is always at least one shuttle at the Foggy Bottom Metro. I have never had to wait long for any of the shuttles. The max I have waited was maybe 8 minutes at the actual Kennedy Center, and luckily there you can stand inside. The Kennedy Center is fantastic, and although we should take more advantage of the wonderful free concerts, we appreciate the ones we have been to, especially on Christmas Day. Now that is dedication to the arts. If you are planning a visit to the Kennedy Center, I would highly recommend you using the free shuttle vans. read more

First of all it's free. You can't beat free. Second of all on performance nights there is ALWAYS one waiting by the metro. One will not pull away before another one is waiting behind it. This is hugely appreciated especially in the wind, snow, and rain. They have comfortable seats, they play nice classical music, and the drivers are nice. Only drawback is after the performances you can be in for a wait and they cram you in big time. In nice weather I prefer to just walk to the metro. read more

Each and every time my boyfriend and I have been to the Kennedy Center, it has rained. No, correction, it has POURED. Today was no exception. All afternoon it looked like it would rain. We thought we might escape the rain when we came in for the show. We thought we would be ok when we popped outside during intermission. Lo and behold, when our show ended, it was pouring. We stepped outside to warm up a little (AC was cranked high today.) Then, the greatest, most welcome thing was outside. We saw a shuttle. Yay! We boarded the FREE shuttle and waited a few minutes before we took off for the GW Metro stop. Bf and I were the only ones on, and it was a quick ride over. I loved that this saved us from getting poured on and allowed us to return to a slightly more populated area. Remember to take advantage of the shuttle between the GW Metro and the Kennedy Center. They do an excellent job of waiting at Foggy Bottom when trains are arriving so that show-goers have a ride waiting when they surface in front of GW. The drivers are sweet and take extra care to help those with difficulties onto the vehicle. The Center runs extra shuttles after performances so that no one is waiting outside for very long. I agree with the previous Yelpers... this shuttle is super convenient and best of all FREE!! Right after exiting the metro escalator there were two shuttles dropping off loads of people, so right after it emptied I hopped on. After the performance they had quite a few shuttles running, and even then the wait time was less than 15 minutes. Taking the shuttle is definitely better than paying $20 bucks to park at the KC for an event!! read more
