From there, you are located near the National Mall, Smithsonian Museums, White House, Washington, Jefferson and Lincoln monuments. Also, near the WW II and the Vietnam Wall memorials. The station is equipped for ADA via elevator near the main entrance and has ramps to the platforms. The elevator may have enough room for 4-5 people or 1 ADA Wheel or electric chair and two others. The trains are nice and clean. Not like other stations in other cities. Price is comparable to other cities dreaming from $2.50 -$6.75 depending the time and stop you are heading too. Use your phone, CC, or Smartcard you can purchase from the Metro. Also, you can plan your trip, purchase and schedules from their website @ https://wmata.com I highly recommend to use the site. Epic escalators! They are about 100' -150' deep before you get to the kiosk stations. Have a fun trip!

Ok, I'm finally getting around to reviewing Metro stations. This is a deep station like many on…read morethis end of the Red Line. The platforms are pretty run of the mill Metro platforms. Normally it's pretty clean. Once you take the long-ish escalator ride up away from the tracks, you end up in a covered area where the buses are. This area has a tiny Dunkin Donuts if you need a snack or coffee. As you head to the next set of escalators, there is a water feature (not quite a waterfall) that comes down into the station area from the surface. Nice to have a natural sounds in a very urban area. Once you get up onto the surface, you're at the corner of Old Georgetown Rd and Wisconsin Ave near several hotels and a Starbucks (in case Dunks wasn't your cup of tea). Pretty central to a of businesses and restaurants. All in all, this station is convenient and central to downtown Bethesda.

This is "my" stop. I do not live in Washington, D.C., but I did for more than a decade before…read moremoving on, and, as importantly, my elderly father still lives on his own in the Maryland suburbs. So I am still in the area, this specific neighborhood, just about every month. This is the closest mass transit station, and I probably have used it a dozen times in the past year. All of that is to say I am familiar with it. I am not a daily commuter though. I write for three reasons. The first is to praise the design of this system. Brutalism is a terrible style of architecture. However lovely it is in Instagram pictures, it does not work for users, and the name itself would suggest an attitude toward people. But the Metro system is not like office plazas. Massed concrete is aesthetically appropriate, even pleasing, for this usage. These are modern cathedrals (not an original thought of mine as to train terminals; as a college freshman, I took a seminar about the beauty of engineering). The deeply coffered ceilings above the platforms, the incredibly long escalators, and, in this instance, that circular antechamber all give this location a dignity you might not associate with getting large numbers of people on and off the Red Line tracks. The second is to note this specific venue is, if not unique, at least unusual (I detest the abuse of "unique," which means one of a kind -- I don't know how many other stops of the DC Metro or any system are like this, but I doubt this is the only). It straddles a border. You can enter/exit on the city side or the suburban side. These are officially different legal jurisdictions. That's just neat. For my purposes, I almost always, unless I'm turned around, need to head into Maryland. The third is to express positive feelings about the neighborhood. I am biased and self interested. I acknowledge that. One should. But this is a livable residential part of the capitol. I have traveled to various capitols. DC is my favorite, and that is not only because I am an American; DC is easy to get around in, even for tourists, and it is eminently suited to middle class families being able to raise children there, which is not true of so many of its counterparts elsewhere. Friendship Heights, in particular the Village (Maryland side), is close enough to downtown to allow easy access, but distant enough for easygoing day to day activities. They say the Village is the single most densely populated municipality in the nation, ahead of New York City even, due to it being a handful of high rise condos packed into such tight quarters.

It's free. It may not be quick all the time due to traffic…read morein the area, but it will get you where you need to go and back. The only stops it makes are Kennedy Center and Foggy Bottom Metro. Location (Foggy Bottom Metro): There is a "Kennedy Center Shuttle" sign located on 23rd Street NW, DC. It is located near the exits for Foggy Bottom Metro and George Washington University Hospital. Once you see the shuttle sign, just wait there until the next shuttle arrives. The area in front of the shuttle sign can get a bit congested at times with other vehicles. Not to worry. If there are other vehicles stopped in that area, the shuttle will move a little closer to the traffic light that is near there, and pick/drop people off from that spot. It's all about safety. Location (Kennedy Center): They have a sign on the curb outside the Kennedy Center for the shuttle. If you are facing the building, look to your left. It will be by the entrance to the Hall of Nations. Once you get in the shuttle, grab a seat. Once all seats are taken, you can stand in the aisle and grab one of the handles hanging from the bars above. They are not very comfortable as the drive is not a straight one all the way. If you don't want to stand, you can always wait for the next shuttle (they run approximately every 15 minutes). Schedule for the Shuttle per Kennedy Center's website * Mondays = 9:45am to 11:30pm. * Tuesdays = 9:45am to 11:30pm. * Wednesdays = 9:45am to 11:30pm. * Thursdays = 9:45am to 11:30pm. * Fridays = 9:45am to 12am (midnight). * Saturdays = 9:45am to 12am (midnight). * Sundays = 11:45am to 11pm. The safety record of the train, and not dealing with fare jumping/fights seen frequently at metro stations is better. Does it cost more? Yes yet I don't think it's exorbitant when inflation is factored in. There's plenty of parking here. You can take the train north or southbound depending on rush hour. I like this one's visibility, and also the platform is attractive and well built. The stair climb is admittedly a exercise routine. Get those steps in! If you're in the area, and want to go to DC at Union Station, this is the most sane way of getting there.

For a monthly ticket (unlimited) it is about $200 and parking is FREE at rolling rd and most stops. The only reason this got 4 stars is because the train times are a bit inflexible (it only runs from 5am-8:18am in the morning, and 4-7pm in the night), so you are tied to the trains schedule when going to and leaving work. There are also limited stops (listed below). I would recommend to anyone who goes from the Manassas/ burke / ffx area to Alexandria, Crystal city, L'Enfant plaza, or union station.
