While in the Washington DC Area we rode the subway train system and had to stop and use several subway stations. We went to the Farragut west Station to head home. We were pretty tired after walking 10 miles all day. I found this station to be pretty dirty. It was not my favorite train station. On weekends it's $2 per person per ride. Farragut Park West is a busy Metro station convenient to the area. It's nothing all that interesting. The best thing about it is the location. It's good for getting something to eat. There's good food trucks in Farragut Park. It serves the Blue, Orange, and Silver Lines. It's apparent by the name that it's west of Farragut Park. The location is pretty convenient and lots of other people think so. It's very crowded. This is the last stop before you get downtown, so lots of people are getting on. It has a couple of exits. The 17th and I Street exit takes you east to Farragut Park. The 18th and I Street exit takes you out west. read more

Farragut West is one of the "easier" and more manageable metro stations in Washington, D.C. It is not too deep underground, not like, say, Dupont Circle. Honestly my biggest complaint about this station is that my usual exit closes on weekends (17 & I) and I have to walk all the way to the 18 & I exit. If some issue happens on the line, it doesn't take long for the platform in the corresponding direction to fill up to unbearable capacity. Thankfully, it's located just across the street from the red line so I can take that towards MD to bypass a few stops. But, the issue is getting off the overcrowded platform... you'd think you're on Times Square at peak time in NY! Otherwise, the station is pretty straightforward. The staff are nice, there's occasionally entertainment when you exit (especially at 17 & I), and it's not one of those super-long escalators. Farragut West is great to go to for lunch since Farragut Square has a lot of food trucks everyday. It's got restaurants like Luke's Lobster and Protein Bar as well. read more

Bottom Line: A typical metro stop in NW DC on the Blue, Orange and Silver Lines that is bustling with commuters on weekdays. Most of the metro stations aren't much to write home or Yelp about and that includes this one. On the weekdays this metro stop is full of commuters as it's very close to many businesses and eateries including food trucks and food courts. It is also a decent option for touristy places like the White House and the Smithsonian's Renwick Gallery. There are two exits for this station - one for 17th St. NW and one for 18th St. NW. The 17th St. NW exit is a bit closer to White House and Renwick. The 17th St. exit is also right across from Farragut Square Park, home of many weekday food trucks. The 18th St. exit is close to Starbucks, Compass Coffee and the International Food Court. This Metro station, like most of them, is very pedestrian but it gets the job done. read more

I searched high and low to find the Metro itself to review but it seems that everything here is grouped by stations. This is a very nice station, clean, and efficient however-when something happens with one of the train lines or track issues then it is causes major headaches. My husband and I were enroute from another Metro station to get to Foggy Bottom station so we could go to the Kennedy Center. At that station we learned that the blue line was not operational that day and that there was single track beyond Foggy Bottom station. I had asked the attendant at Federal Triangle if we would encounter problems getting there. Her reply was "not to Foggy Bottom." We boarded a silver line train and this stop was when the train stopped moving. We heard various announcements that we would be moving shortly. 20 minutes went by. Locked in a car admiring the beauty of this station. Again we were told single track issue and when we saw a train come from the opposite direction we began to move. Mind you, if I could have left this car and walked I would have been there quicker. Anyway as we started down the tunnel our train came to another halt smack dab in the middle of the dark tunnel. Another wait. 5 minutes later our train pulled into Foggy Bottom and we were just so glad to get out. Now back to the station itself. Farragut West sits on the far side of Farragut Park and has two entrances. There are escalators to take you down and well lit and marked. Three of DC's most popular lines run through it - blue, silver, and orange. I do like the fact that they have an electronic sign giving you the approximate time the next train is due and which line. Round flashing lights signal the approach of a coming train. You are given ample time to let passengers out and then get in. There's a lot in the Farragut area which is why this Metro stop is so popular. However, the headaches of having to deal with one line not running for whatever reason and then dealing with single track is a nightmare. I'm sure this is the nature of the beast but I would advise seek other transportation if you enter this or any station and find that there could be delays. read more

Serviced by Blue, Orange, and Silver it is generally easy to catch a train here-unless it's Saturday or Sunday and major track work is in effect. It's underground (always good for rain and other inclement weather), relatively clean, has two entrances and exits, and the A/C works well in the warmer months. For the better part of nearly 8 years I frequented this station. This is one of the nicer stations, its pretty safe, well lit, and pretty bustling during the weekdays. I'll used this stop occasionally during off periods on the weekend and its like tumbleweeds. Most of the key structures in this station generally are well maintained although the escalators going to the platform are undergoing some refurbishments which still seem to be continuing from the days when I used to be a regular at this stop. Hopefully that project will see a conclusion. The main complaint I have about this station, depending on which escalator you take you are getting out at 17th or 18th street, the signs aren't well marked throughout the platform. Basically when you get to the opposite end of the platform you might realize you need to walk to the other end, so I wish they'd add signage on which street exit you're headed towards in the middle platform signs. Also if there is a metro issue, the platforms can get pretty crowded quickly. read more

DC probably has the best trail transit in the world. At this station, you are near the Penn quarter including the White House and Dupont Circle. This station is located near the Farragut Square surrounded by office buildings, coffee or breakfast shops as Starbucks, Pret a Manger, le pain quotedien, paul, dunkin donuts, etc. At lunch, several food trucks envelop the square and there's always musicians at metro entrances at Farragut North and Farragut West. Just around the corner is the White House lawn, treasury bldg, and CAFC, among many. So if u r staying in Northern VA be sure to get off at this location if u want to be near the White House and the monuments are also a short walk from this Sta. Old Ebbit grill and other restaurants are walking distance so it's a very convenient location. read more

Farragut West is a pretty standard Metro station. It has two exits on opposite ends of the platform. One for 17th St the other for 18th St. The 17th St entrance is closed on weekends. This can be pretty annoying and the reasons for it are unclear. read more

This is a good access point for skipping downtown. You can walk from Farragut North to Farragut West without paying any additional fare. You have to walk above ground, but it's only a block. That way you can get between the Red and Blue/Orange lines without having to use the overcrowded downtown transfer stations. read more

Getting off here from the Orange or Blue line and walking up 18th to Dupont Circle rather than going to Metro Center and switching to the Red Line is the faster and healthier way to get to one of the best parts of the city. It is a quick ten minute walk to the circle that will knock off a handful of the calories you'll be noshing on once you get up there. Just follow the signs in the station to the 18th St exit. The metro in DC is kinda funny looking-looks like a giant bomb shelter. It's dark, with serious concrete all around. Trains ran frequently, which was nice. However, 10 cent addition to EVERY fare has been efffect since February but old prices are still up. Instead of replacing signs, they added a tiny sticker in one corner saying add 10 cents. Government work?... Not even gonna go there. read more

For visitors, it's easy to confuse Farragut North with Farragut West, and it doesn't help that they aren't connected (different lines) and that Yelp is confused as well. The Farragut stations aren't flashy or glitzy, but the area around Farragut Square are interesting, albeit quieter, areas. Quite a few restaurants around this area as well. Yum... Morton's! EPIC FAIL WEST METRO. I don't know if it was my friend Valerie's bad metro juju or just the fact that the drivers have never driven the trains before but this worst than New York from a I'm trying to get there standpoint. From a its so crowded your armpit is in my nostril standpoint this metro is still better than the New York Subway. But, their ticket fares are confusing in D.C.-why not just have one rate for everywhere? For the tourist it is a little difficult to figure out. read more

One of the safest metro station you can be waiting at. Also, they have a food court with a variety of foods, Korean, Indian, Cuban, Greek, Chinese and etc. If you get off at the 18th St exit, you can be sheltered by the bad rainy weather. read more

NOTE: I wanted to rate this station a 3.5/5. I rounded down, because in my view this station, while good, is not as good as other stations that I have rated a 4/5. Farragut West is an under-appreciated workhorse of the DC Metro. It must surely be one of the busiest and most crowded stations, carrying people from Northern Virginia into one of the District's densest commercial and government areas. As it serves the White House, the Executive Office Buildings, K Street, and financial regulatory agencies, this station daily carries some of the most powerful people who ride the Metro. And it does this, mostly, without incident. While it is typically very crowded, I have never experienced anything truly horrible or infamous at this station. The crowds are well-managed. During the work day, Farragut West conveniently has two exits (one to 17th street, one to 18th street) that are easy to identify and find. These are well-located and human traffic flows into them as well as it can. For tourists and out-of-town visitors, this station offers extremely convenient access from Reagan National Airport to the White House, the National Mall, and DuPont Circle. Getting off here and walking to DuPont is an excellent way of avoiding the inferior Red Line. This metro station is pretty standard. It has good signage and the machines inside seem to always work. There is a lot of restaurants and bars near here, so I like that there are people around and places to go if you need something to do. This is an underground station, so you don't have to deal with the elements. read more

I mean a metro is a metro. I give them all 3 stars for the most part unless there is something REALLY amazing or REALLY awful. There are rats generally and delays, but it'll get you where you're going. A bonus that this one is centrally located to lots of offices and bars. read more

I am not sure who designed the metro stations but there are fundamental flaws with almost all of them. This one services the orange, silver, and blue lines. The biggest problem with this station is that it only has one escalator going up and one escalator going down (there is also one elevator for those with big luggage, wheelchairs, strollers, etc). Considering this is downtown DC, the design is extremely flawed. People are stuck trying to get off the platform and out of the station. If there was a riot or a mob, people would be trapped. I don't know why they don't have a simple staircase that allows people to go up and down but having only one escalator seems like a huge liability if there is an emergency. During rush hour, people are lining up for half the platform trying to go up to exit. It is incredibly unsafe and one would think that this would not be allowed for safety purposes. read more

I had no idea that any stations were closed on the weekends. It would be nice if Metro made closed stations clear on all of it's maps and websites. There is a sign that tells you to use the other entrance, but doesn't tell you exactly where it is. Adding a simple map to the sign would be so easy that you have to ask how could they be so lazy not to do it. read more
