It's actually fairly airy, despite being three separate levels since all are open to the outside. It's surrounded by Fort Totten park, several apartment complexes, and the Metropolitan Branch bike trail runs through the property. There are often deer grazing on the grass next to the platforms and around the station, which you can't say you see at the downtown stations! The transit basics: Red and Green Metro lines intersect here. There's a rumor that the Yellow line trains might once again extend here, but we'll see. It's also a bus hub with routes to dowtown, Ivy City, several destinations in PG county, and more. It's bustling during the day and quiets down at night. Since it is surrounded by the park, some might not feel comfortable walking around late at night away from the well lit areas, but I've not experienced a problem so far walking home late at night (I live about a 10 minute walk away).

There's quite a bit of construction going on in the area, which isn't surprising, though it can make navigation a bit confusing from the outside. A lot of elements of this metro seem upgraded compared to others, and it's definitely way larger than it was back in the day. There's a huge bus area, and you can even catch the MARC. The escalators, core of the station itself, and platform are pretty straightforward. I haven't been in the metro during the peak of rush hour, so I can't speak on what that experience is like. But I imagine it's no different than everywhere else. You can only catch the Red line here, so read the maps so you know where to catch the other lines if necessary.

There's a medical office building nearby, a small shopping center with a supermarket, and the rest is all residential. However, it has a decent amount of parking that is easy to access. There is a short walk from where you park to the turnstiles but it's not bad. The station and the tunnel leading into it are spacious and clean. The only time I've interacted with an attendant they were very friendly. I've read about an escalator but I've only ever used the elevators. There are about 6 of them and they come very quickly. For rider purposes, they only lead from the concourse to the platform. The platform themselves are very wide and have benches along the way. I don't plan to go back to driving every day to DC. It's so much better to park at Forest Glen and use metro.

First of all parking payment rates have drastically changed along with the hours that you need to pay for parking. There is no free half hour anymore. You now have to pay Monday through Saturday up to 10PM. I believe the rate is $1.25 per hour. You also must pay in advance and guesstimate how long you plan to stay and there's no half hour increments so if you only want to pop into a restaurant for carry out, then you need to either take your chances and not pay, or pay for an hours worth of parking. Also, none of the three places I mentioned that I visited exist anymore, but there are lots of great stores and new restaurants in Downtown Silver Spring to explore. This parking garage is the closest one to where all the action is in Downtown Silver Spring.

I've taken Greyhound a number of times and it's always late- sometimes 30 minutes, one time up to 2.5 hours. The only bus system I've ever used that has always been on time is Vamoose. Anyway, you get what you pay for. It's conveniently close to Silver Spring metro station. The staff members try their best but they're not the bus drivers. They've always been attentive with me when it comes to updating bus schedules. Tip: print your bus tickets at home or get an e-ticket because standing in line is a huge mess.

Or numerical markers on the ground where you would just find your boarding. Inner and stand there. The interior was comfortable in terms of lighting and temperature, but everything was so cramped together--bathrooms, vending machines, dollies, seats. There was a tiny TV anchored to the ceiling. WiFi did not work. I would not use Greyhound again. Employees yell, are disorganized, and just aren't trained in customer service and crowd control. Go with Megabus or Bolt Bus. Communication, both ways, was outstanding, and he was on time and helpful going and returning. We were out of the country for three weeks, Steve got us to the airport for the departure, and he was there when we got back, excellent service overall and I plan to use this service in the future. If you got to get there using someone else's transport, Steve and Bethesda Shuttle are your go to, you will NOT regret it.
