This is my first yelp review of any kind, but because I have never had such a bad experience with any company, I figure this is a good opportunity to start. To be clear, my wife and I were unequivocal fans of Uber and had only positive experiences with the drivers and the service, until about three weeks ago. Much to my surprise, a few days after my last Uber ride, I was accused of assaulting a driver and damaging his car. Thinking that this was an obvious mistake that would be easily cleared up with their customer service, I was relieved to finally talk to Trevor from Uber's customer service. On that one and only phone conversation, I explained that my last ride was completely uneventful with a polite driver and I was dropped off at my house after a 15 minute ride. Trevor never explained any details of what happened except that there was a report of a "situation involving a physical altercation with the driver which resulted in damage to the car." Again, I was completely baffled by this and assumed that a quick investigation would clear all of this up and Uber would apologize for mistakenly accusing me of what amounts to assault and destruction of property. I figured it was a serious but honest mistake. Thinking that this would be ultimately resolved, I was even more surprised when I received a follow-up email notifying me that there were additional reports of a "physical altercation that resulted in damage to the driver's vehicle" and that they were deactivating my account. Again, this is completely crazy and just makes no logical sense. If what they are saying is true, why was I not made aware of this until days later? Why were the police not involved if such a serious offense actually took place? If my account was suspended, how could there possibly have been "additional reports" of misconduct? I was never given a detailed account of what allegedly occurred, and never presented with anything to substantiate their allegation. Moreover, when I tried to seek answers to these questions or clarification as to what exactly happened, I was ignored. I have politely tried reaching out several times over the last few weeks and was finally told that they considered the matter closed. Never was I given a phone number so that I speak directly to their customer service or a manager. I was never offered any means to dispute these very serious and completely false claims against me. I have not given up on trying to reach a human voice at Uber, but they have essentially told me that there will be no further communication. In the meantime, I will share this story with as many people as possible. It is also worth looking at other yelp reviews detailing appalling customer service, serious overcharges and allegations of unsubstantiated damage to vehicles, all with basically no recourse or customer service accountability. Even if, by some miracle, Uber apologizes and offers me free rides, I will never use their service again. read more

Please - do yourself a favor and beware of interacting with this company. I have been a customer of Uber's since 2013 and happy recommended it to friends and family. I always had great interactions with their drivers and never had any issues with billing. However, I recently requested that Uber deactivate my account owing to witnessing its abysmal customer service. Long story short, Uber has accused a person close to me of violently attacking one of its drivers, resulting in damage to the car. Serious, right? Except that this person did not attack the driver, no police were called, and this person only found out days later when his account was deactivated. A representative from Uber called and this person provided them with an explanation of his last ride - pick up late at night in DC, drop off in Old Town, nothing weird happened - and the Uber representative thanked him and hung up. A few days later, this person received another email from Uber stating that "additional" accusations of violence were being lobbied against him and that his account would remain suspended. To this day, Uber has never: 1) explained what happened 2) explained how additional accusations could have arose while this person's account was suspended 3) why or whether police were ever called if there was alleged property damage or violence involved 4) provided this person with a phone number so that he can address this fully with someone other than a customer service email bot, or 5) addressed an incorrect charge on his account that he brought to Uber's attention within this exchange. There are serious pending issues with Uber that remain unresolved. Do not put yourself at risk by interacting with this company. You will have no recourse if an accusation is lobbied against you and your billing concerns will not be addressed. Upon doing further research into Uber's customer service, I have found that these incidences are not rare. People who are overcharged are simply told that their billing is correct. People who have issues with drivers are simply told that things will work out. Do not get into a car with this company and put yourself at risk of being accused of criminal activity or of being charged incorrectly for their services. Do not have faith in their customer service to resolve the issue. Even though this incident did not happen to me, I will not put myself at risk with them after seeing this exchange play out. I recommend others avoid this company like the plague until they seriously address their customer service issues. read more

Where to start with Uber? I guess I'll start with their terrible customer service. One Saturday night my friends and I went out on the town and decided to take an Uber back. Why not? It was free (we had a $20 cuopon) and fast. Somewhere in my tipsy stupor I left my purse in the Uber. I realize that this was my own fault, however, the series of events that followed were exacerbated by Uber's lack of customer support. About 10 minutes (12:30) after getting out of the Uber I realized my purse was gone. My friends and I called our driver endlessly, with no answer. We searched Google high and low for a support number, an address, anything, and came up fruitless. We finally found an email address that we did not receive a response from until about 2:30. By then I had called my driver 72 times and left about 5 voicemails. We tried to call Ubers hoping and wishing that we would get our driver. Finally I decided to call it a night. The next day I called again and finally got an answer. The driver then told me that he would drop my purse off and the Uber office which was supposedly at the intersection of 21st and N Street. So I went to the intersection of 21st and N.......no Uber office. I decided to call another Uber and hope that they know where the office is. What do I find out? The Uber drivers are never actually required to go to the office. Finally we get to the office and we were forced to wait 10 minutes in a foyer just for someone to open the door for us. Then we are greeted by a man stuffing his face with a brownie and blocking the door so we may not actually enter the office. This man was probably the biggest douche bag I've ever met. As we were telling him about the troubles we had getting to the office he says "We don't like people to know where we are"......awkward. Needless to say my purse had yet to be dropped off. One day later we receive a response from an email that gave me the driver's personal number. I then texted him and he had finally dropped my purse off. So a make the trek back to DuPont Circle to retrieve my item. Again we had to wait just to be let into the waiting area (how ironic). Finally after three days I had been reunited with my purse. Although I like how fast their service is, I do not understand how a company who services so many people be so hard to contact. I know this could not have been the first time someone left something in an uber. I also did not appreciate the fact that they do not have a better way of getting in contact with their drivers. read more

I used Uber and UberEats a lot as I thought they were reliable and protected their customers. However, I was given hard and burned fries from a restaurant, submitted the proper paperwork based on the App's suggestion, promised a refund and never received it, it's been five (5) months now! Second "OH NEVER AGAIN MOMENT", I have two children and we all were snug in our beds at 2:00 in the am. I here my phone buzz, I check it and see where someone used my account (illegally) to get a ride from Hyattsville, MD to Capital Heights, MD arriving to their destination at 6:30AM on Sunday, March 18, 2018. Outraged, I shut my card down and tried to delete the card off the account which is almost impossible!! I immediately took pictures of the driver, the information, everything that a responsible victim should do. I reported it Uber thinking I would get some resolve. I was sent a email that asked for certain information, I complied, in that email, I was told I would receive the first name of the person who used my account, I mean, sure let's protect the thief, they deserve protection right?! Here's the reason why I am reporting on YELP, will send an inquiry to all the local news stations, BBB, an email to all family and friends and also seeking counsel. I get an email that says perhaps you allowed a friend to use your account, a family member borrowed your account, you logged-in from a friends account and with that said we will not be issuing a refund because you allowed the charges. Then to add insult to injury, I was told to change my password!! NO APOLOGIES, NO NAME as PROMISED, NO CREDIT (as if i would EVER use them again) NOTHING! I am sad to see that after all rape charges and violent videos where drivers have been overly IGNORANT and RUDE! that Uber would want to SAVE their reputation not ADD to the demise of it. However, I am DONE, If I EVER need a ride, will be going back to calling a taxi cab!!! Uber is really a joke and should not be in business too much longer. I originally tried Uber out in lieu of my original limo company just to get a feel of what all of the rave was about. Haha...bad choice. Instead of satisfaction, I was rather presented with a series of complaints. First of all, I really wish über would stop saying it's "cheaper than a taxi", because it's not. False advertising there. Also, it's no better than a taxi, which brings me to my next complaint....Secondly, a different driver every time doesn't allow you to build any relations. The thing I like the most about limo companies is their close knit relationships with their clients. With a large corporation like uber, that's not possible. Personally, I just really dislike a boring car ride. Uber advertises itself to be a limousine company, however, to me, it's nothing more than an overpriced taxi company. AND FINALLY, it's pretty cruel what über is doing to their own, poor employees. No wonder there have been so many strikes recently. Uber's attempts at keeping costs low is really just draining their employees. Overall: if you're looking for the real luxurious feel of a limo service...do not choose uber. I have to say that it is rare that I don't have at least one complaint when I write a review for anything but my experience thus far with Uber has been fantastic. I have used the service extensively in the DC/VA area and have also made use of the app when traveling on business to LA and NYC. I really enjoy the fact that I can choose which type of car I want showing up. If I am going somewhere for business I will often choose the black town car, however, when its just me I tend to go just for a straight up cab. There is also the option to do Uber X which is just a random person. While I have shied away from this I know people who have done it and they have never had a weird experience. While you are paying more than you would for a taxi with the added fees and included tip, I think it is well worth it to 1. not have to stand on the corner forever looking for a cab in bad weather and 2. the convenience of using an app instead of having to call and 3. the 100% reliability that they will show up as promised.
