Shout out to Mr. McCallister for helping a clueless rider. Maybe it was because I had kids with me and they are dependent on an adult or maybe its because he is awesome at customer service. Either way when I was dropped off at the station my first time anxiety was at a level 100. I read everything and despite it being clear was still apprehensive about the purchase. I told him where I wanted to go and even added in the activities for the following day so I wouldn't be clueless. We added the funds onto the card and I was off. Clarification made before I left that the train waiting for me below was the right one and i couldnt mess it up! The whole check-in process went smoothly. I even knew I probably wanted the forward facing seats to avoid any potential motion sickness. The ride was entertaining between the sights and people watching. Arrival at our destination was fairly quick. Each stop in between is very quick and efficient. We got off and were herded to the exit. There is no question which way it is with the majority of people going in the same direction. You swipe your card again which had me confused but, ok whatever. All you can do is go with the flow. I like how your just spit out the escalator in the middle of anywhere. On the return trip I did have to ask which metro was mine. It has the color on the front! The ride home was uneventful. I wondered if I had to swipe again and I did. I did the metro with kids and it wasn't that bad. I only had to take one line but, today is 2 lines! I'm thankful it went so smoothly on my first trip, one line helped as well Im sure. If I make it today with 2 kids multiple lines I will be more confident in my DC traveling and thus be on my way to a ...... real tourist!

I've been coming to this metro station ever since I can remember when they opened it! On this night, there appeared to be an intoxicated person in the station. He was riding his bike on the platform and screaming at the top of his lungs. He was also riding his bike within each car of the train, cursing and screaming obscenities. People who behave like this are similar to those on Fentanyl. The Station Manager wasn't busy as there were only a couple people purchasing tickets, and heading down to the platform. This occurred at 10pm on a Friday evening the first week of May. I can remember seeing less than 5 people standing on the platform. This Station Manager did absolutely nothing. My concern is that this individual was a safety threat not only to himself but perhaps other riders as well.

I am fortunate to have access to such a great station in my vicinity that sits on the end of the blue line. It's clean, spacious, has a relaxed aura, houses both normal busses and special busses (for communities, hotels, etc) and the best part is it's always improving. Riders can take the Blue or Yellow line (Yellow is rush only) from here and they both have identical stops all the way until Pentagon. It's so relieving to ALWAYS be the first group of people to board the empty trains, huge plus. Fare card machines hardly malfunction and the parking garage is also being renovated. Traveling from here will ease your journey. Improvements are already visible, this station's bus stand has gone through a major upgrade. Aesthetically compelling but will also help to de-congest buss pickup and drop off. Project info - http://planitmetro.com/2013/08/06/tiger-builds-momentum-for-metro-2025/ .

Ask the Community - Franconia-Springfield Metro Station

How safe is the overnight parking at the Franconia metro garage? Thinking about leaving car there for 4 or 5 days and was curious if there are reports of car break-ins / damage etc?

I’ve left my car there overnight (never longer than 1 night) and have never had any issues. I’m not sure if there are functioning security cameras, but I’d advise you park in a well-lit area near one of the main entrances/exits.

Wow wow wow. In case…read moreyou're curious, those are the bad kind of "wows", not the "Hey I'm impressed that was so damn good" type of wows. This place is so disorganized and it seems that the hours of operation are a joke. BTW, to call this place a bus "station" is a misnomer as it more of a tiny bus stop. It's so small (that's what she said), that you may drive by it as it sits along the entrance of the Franconia-Springfield metro station. So here's the deal. We all stopped by around 6:45am to drop off the mother-in-law. She had bought a bus ticket that departed at 7:30am and decided that we should show up a few minutes before the station opened. The hours of operation for this station stated that this place would open at 7am. We waited...7am came an no one arrived. 7:15am arrived and the bus stop was still closed. 7:25am, a large Greyhound bus arrived and a person jumped out of the bus. We scrambled to get the mother-in-law's ticket and saw a group of already waiting customers fight to enter the small station. Chaos... The bus that arrived was to be my mother-in-law's bus and despite the late arrival of the Greyhound station attendant, it was set to leave at exactly 7:30am. Thankfully she was able to get her ticket, boarded the bus and we all could rest easy knowing she was safe and on the bus. It seems ridiculously inappropriate for the person/company running this station to arrive so late! There were many people waiting outside the station on such a cold morning waiting to get their tickets. Had we not decided to wait with my mother-in-law, she would've fallen victim to the bitter cold morning. That would've been bad news for yours truly. Thankfully we waited and the mother-in-law stayed nice in toasty in the family minivan until the station attendant arrived. I'm such a wonderful son-in-law. :-)

Is your bus 2 hours late? Is the bus station closed? No problem! Just give Greyhound a call, and an…read moreamazing robot with 482319489320483290 options will be prepared to serve you! Did you finally speak to a human over the phone? Great! Prepare to listen to 30+ minutes worth of On-Hold-Music! (And it was only 30 because I finally gave up.) Seriously, this was my worst bus experience ever. There's literally no one there to help you, because the "station" is closed. It's more of a bus stop, really. My bus was 2 hours late, so I called them. I received little to no assistance over the phone, because they could not track their own bus for whatever reason. And if they transfer you, you might as well hang up and save your batteries, because they end up putting you on hold for a very long time. So don't do it. Save yourself.
