Loved the fact that I didn't have to drive to DC and pay crazy parking rates while I traveled to NYC.

The Vamoose staff at Rosslyn allowed her to stay on only because someone had missed the bus (that route was initially sold-out).

Dear reader,…read more Franconia Springfield Metro may not be the flashiest station in the system, but it is absolutely one of the better ones to use. It is spacious, easy to navigate, and generally feels far less chaotic than some of the other stations in the area, which is a blessing in itself. Whether you are commuting regularly or just heading into the city for the day, the whole setup makes getting around feel simple and efficient. One of its best qualities is how practical it is. There is plenty of parking, it is easy to access, and it connects well for people coming from different directions, which makes the whole experience feel very civilized by Metro standards. The station also usually feels clean and well maintained, and overall it is just a reliable place to start or end your trip. No great drama here, just a station that does exactly what it needs to do and does it well. In my book, that earns high marks.

Springfield Greyhound Bus Station - Station is closed

Wow wow wow. In case…read moreyou're curious, those are the bad kind of "wows", not the "Hey I'm impressed that was so damn good" type of wows. This place is so disorganized and it seems that the hours of operation are a joke. BTW, to call this place a bus "station" is a misnomer as it more of a tiny bus stop. It's so small (that's what she said), that you may drive by it as it sits along the entrance of the Franconia-Springfield metro station. So here's the deal. We all stopped by around 6:45am to drop off the mother-in-law. She had bought a bus ticket that departed at 7:30am and decided that we should show up a few minutes before the station opened. The hours of operation for this station stated that this place would open at 7am. We waited...7am came an no one arrived. 7:15am arrived and the bus stop was still closed. 7:25am, a large Greyhound bus arrived and a person jumped out of the bus. We scrambled to get the mother-in-law's ticket and saw a group of already waiting customers fight to enter the small station. Chaos... The bus that arrived was to be my mother-in-law's bus and despite the late arrival of the Greyhound station attendant, it was set to leave at exactly 7:30am. Thankfully she was able to get her ticket, boarded the bus and we all could rest easy knowing she was safe and on the bus. It seems ridiculously inappropriate for the person/company running this station to arrive so late! There were many people waiting outside the station on such a cold morning waiting to get their tickets. Had we not decided to wait with my mother-in-law, she would've fallen victim to the bitter cold morning. That would've been bad news for yours truly. Thankfully we waited and the mother-in-law stayed nice in toasty in the family minivan until the station attendant arrived. I'm such a wonderful son-in-law. :-)

Did you finally speak to a human over the phone? Great! Prepare to listen to 30+ minutes worth of On-Hold-Music! (And it was only 30 because I finally gave up.) Seriously, this was my worst bus experience ever. There's literally no one there to help you, because the "station" is closed. It's more of a bus stop, really. My bus was 2 hours late, so I called them. I received little to no assistance over the phone, because they could not track their own bus for whatever reason. And if they transfer you, you might as well hang up and save your batteries, because they end up putting you on hold for a very long time. So don't do it. Save yourself.
