If you are entering a train, you can only go so far down the platform safely before being in someone else's way. The escalator situation here confuses me. It seems like they were meant to be helpful in the platform situation but I always end up being in the opposite direction from where I need to be. Exiting out onto the street was a bit of a mess as well. Everyone seems to filter to the one side that takes you into the downtown area. Everyone seems to have the same thought here, I'm entitled to the nearest gate even though I see you clearly standing there about to use it. It is a very well used station and I can see why with the connection to the bus bays. But until they are done doing whatever update there is, it's just not the best right now.

There's quite a bit of construction going on in the area, which isn't surprising, though it can make navigation a bit confusing from the outside. A lot of elements of this metro seem upgraded compared to others, and it's definitely way larger than it was back in the day. There's a huge bus area, and you can even catch the MARC. The escalators, core of the station itself, and platform are pretty straightforward. I haven't been in the metro during the peak of rush hour, so I can't speak on what that experience is like. But I imagine it's no different than everywhere else. You can only catch the Red line here, so read the maps so you know where to catch the other lines if necessary.

When I was there the other night probably 1/2 the lights were burned out. It is not easy to determine who to contact about this. Because it is outdoors it is very dark at night and potentially dangerous. Also there should be a master list of all the buses that stop there, which bay each one stops at, and the time until the next bus rather than listing them at each bay individually. This should be displayed electronically, Passengers should not have to go to each bay to determine which bus stops where. It is time consuming and inconvenient. There are also many rats at this station, which are particularly active at night. So altogether not the greatest experience transferring there. A few Uber options are as follows: Uberx is the basic: warning though you might end up in a hoopty. Cracked windshields or a car thats been keyed by a jealous ex. UberBlack -luxury car UberSUV for a large party. UberXl is a step up from basic. I used this one recently. I rode in a nice Dodge Durango at a pool rate. So from Union Station to my destination. However because it was pooled, I was last to go home #sadface. This guy drove slow and I mean slow! However now there are better options now, for us ladies to ride safer. Ladies you can request a female driver now!! I only had one bad experience with Uber but that was a very long time ago. I like this that i can request a female driver and feel safer. If your going home from the airport, make sure you have both apps open and plug in your destination. They prices vary. So from Dulles to home is about 25 miles my ride was only $30. Lyft was me charging $73. Also refresh your app. The rates change. So when its in high demand . The prices go up. Wait a little and see that the prices will drop. Also doing UberShare helps save . I never have to share a ride I also have UberOne which saves me money but im under a promotion period for 30 days.

Several minutes went by that we thought he was looking up shuttles but then he began to snore... loudly... Into the phone. After we woke him up by yelling HELLO into the phone, he asked us all the same questions over again... And then a third time asked some again. He was slurring and not making much sense the whole time. The whole thing was really shady and weirded us out too much. So we declined to provide our credit card number and will instead be taking an uber.

I've taken Greyhound a number of times and it's always late- sometimes 30 minutes, one time up to 2.5 hours. The only bus system I've ever used that has always been on time is Vamoose. Anyway, you get what you pay for. It's conveniently close to Silver Spring metro station. The staff members try their best but they're not the bus drivers. They've always been attentive with me when it comes to updating bus schedules. Tip: print your bus tickets at home or get an e-ticket because standing in line is a huge mess.

Even as a first-time user of Greyhound, I felt that the boarding process did not need explanation, yet everyone already in line was yelling and pissed when others got to board before them. There needs to be a better system to organize. It's not Greyhound's first rodeo. Signs that indicate lining up by number would be useful. Or numerical markers on the ground where you would just find your boarding. Inner and stand there. The interior was comfortable in terms of lighting and temperature, but everything was so cramped together--bathrooms, vending machines, dollies, seats. There was a tiny TV anchored to the ceiling. WiFi did not work. I would not use Greyhound again. Employees yell, are disorganized, and just aren't trained in customer service and crowd control. Go with Megabus or Bolt Bus. Christopher set me up with a cab for the day on Thursday ( a whole lot cheaper than a limo) so we could do Arlington, Mt. Vernon and back. The rest of the weekend I used the YCDC App and it worked beautifully. Again, no limos, but timely, nice drivers and easy. We tried to get an Uber once, but ended up going back to Yellow Cab. We had a wonderful time celbrating the 250th, and YCDC took away the travel worries I had envisioned. I will use them again.

I used the YC mobile app & web app twice to get him a ride. Both times it said the driver would arrive in 4 mins--guess that's their default--but actually arrived in 15+ mins. When you book, they just tell you the ride is confirmed, but don't give you any information about the driver or how long it'll take for a few good long minutes. After a loooong wait, it says your driver is 4 mins away. The last time I booked with them, I watched the car on the app that had confirmed just sit, not move an inch, for probably 5 minutes solid. Geographically he was super close. Then for about 8 minutes he just inched along until he did finally reach the neighborhood. BUT, he whizzed right by the school and went down the street and just sat there. I called the service number 3 times-- it's just an automated machine. You can request to speak to the driver. Each of the three times I selected it, hoping to let him know that the school was behind him, it ring once and then hung up. After waiting for 16 minutes total for a car that was in the beginning had been like a 6-minute drive away, I cancelled the ride and ordered an uber for $8 more, which arrived in precisely 4 minutes.

Communication, both ways, was outstanding, and he was on time and helpful going and returning. We were out of the country for three weeks, Steve got us to the airport for the departure, and he was there when we got back, excellent service overall and I plan to use this service in the future. If you got to get there using someone else's transport, Steve and Bethesda Shuttle are your go to, you will NOT regret it.
