We didn't get a chance to use them because Covid had shut the world down but I kept their number locked into my phone. Fast forward two years later and I had an emergency and Baron came to the rescue. At 9:45pm I got a call from my main bus company saying that one of their coaches broke down and they wouldn't have a third bus for a trip we were host the next morning. The first person I called was Claudine because she had given me her cell number two years earlier. I told her our problems and within 40 minutes she had a bus and a driver locked in for my trip Needless to say, this doesn't normaly happen so I was very thankful. The bus was clean, on time and the driver was very professional. They have a customer for life!

One driver had an accent and I struggled at times to understand him, but he was really friendly and didn't seem to mind me asking him to repeat himself! He got us where we wanted to go, so in the end, I think it's a pretty minor thing. Vehicles: The limo was perfect for our NYE adventure, while the Sprinter was a classy and convenient way to get to Leesburg from Arlington. Since I wasn't entirely sure of her schedule, I wasn't able to book until the day before we needed the driver so I was very happy that Culdesac was able to accommodate. From my initial phone inquiry until our drop off, every interaction with the business was professional. During my first phone call, I was able to book a driver for 5 hours to take us to a winery in Virginia. The winery is located over an hour away, so it was nice to be able to relax and not worry about driving. Everything was pretty seamless. Culdesac not only contacted me the same day, but they were the only ones who provided me with any form of communication, and I've yet to hear back from the other 2 companies. That alone catapulted Culdesac to 5 star status in my book! I had 11 people in my group and was suggested a 14 passenger Mercedes Sprint Van, picking up from IAD to downtown Washington for $275, which included tax and gratuity. I believe I spoke to Sammy, who was very helpful and friendly. Fast forward to February... The day before our trip, Sammy called me to reconfirm, and sent me our driver's name and number. A hiccup happened to our trip, and I sent Derek a text to come to the airport earlier than we agreed upon. Culdesac called to verify we needed an earlier pickup, Derek kept me in the loop of his transit time, and he came to the spot we told him we were at. Super professional! We decided to use Culdesac to take us back to the airport. Again the day before, I got a call and email reconfirming my pickup at 1:30 pm. We were told that Derek was going to take us back, but unfortunately a hiccup occured where his appointment was going to run over, so Derek texted me that someone else will pick us up, and not to worry. A few minutes after the text, Culdesac called me to say Derek was being replaced by Sam, and they texted me his number. Sam arrived at 1:15 in a 20 passenger van, just as nice as the Mercedes Sprinter, and even newer! It was also handicapped accessible, which was a good thing to remember if someone was disabled. He was just as courteous and got us to the airport safely and quickly. I honestly believe this company deserves 5 stars. They were professional, easy to get a hold of via email and phone, and communicated with me from start to finish. They charged my card after the service was completed, and the tip and tax was included in the fee. I would gladly use them again if I am back in the DC area.

Amtrak/VRE/Metro - King Street Station, Old Town Alexandria VA…read more At the start of a weekend trip from Alexandria to Newport News, I was booked on one of Amtrak's Northeast Regional trains. I've lived in Alexandria for about 15 years and appreciate the reach of trains stopping in Old Town. The transit footprint includes the Blue and Yellow Metro rail lines, the VRE commuter rail, and both CSX freight and Amtrak passenger trains - making the station exceptionally versatile. The Amtrak station opens at 6 a.m. - and there's an excellent 24-hour diner a block away, near the Hilton serving Old Town King Street. One of the not-so-great features of the Amtrak side of the station is that passengers heading into D.C. may have to cross over the tracks or face a lot of steps up and down to get from one set of tracks to the other. Complicating the process is the practice of withholding information about which track incoming trains might be using, so we won't know what side of the tracks we will be boarding from. That's all going to change: the site is undergoing major construction changes that will eliminate having to cross the rails on foot. While the construction will likely take most of the year to finish, the result should be amazing. We saw a similar investment in the site two years ago when the WMATA/DASH side of the station was overhauled, greatly improving safety for all who use the station. According to the station's website, the contractor must achieve substantial completion within 756 consecutive calendar days from the Notice-To-Proceed (NTP), issued December 2025 (so figure it'll be under construction until early 2028). This is a station of historic standing, within a stone's throw from the Washington Masonic Temple monument. Once the dust clears, passenger safety will see a significant improvement, as will train traffic.

To save on Uber/Lyft fees, I took the metro from DCA to this station, then took a bus to National Harbor. The bus area is right outside the metro station and fairly easy to navigate. This station is also in the heart of Old Town Alexandria. I was able to walk around and see a little of it, but if you have more time, you can take the free trolley around Old Town- it also stops here. There really isn't much you can walk to unless you have a good amount of time before your bus arrives, so my suggestion is to stay put and not try to find coffee, food, or drinks. I wish there was a convenience store or coffee shop closer!
