Occasionally, tourists and/or kids will take this train to visit the city, especially during the spring and summer months. This place is located near a residential area and an industrial complex, yet it is isolated from most places. Most people are not aware of this station. There isn't much here. A few ticket machines at the entrance to the platform, and about a half dozen benches near the platform. At night, be extra aware when it gets dark. Over the years, there have been a few vandals messing with parked cars. Not recommended to keep cars here overnight. You will need to take the elevator down or walk a number of steps on the outdoor stairway down to get to the platform. For those with issues with heights, it may be best to take the elevator. Unlike the VRE stations at Woodbridge or Quantico, there is no convenience/coffee area at the Rippon station which is a bummer if you are waiting for a long period. Also, although Amtrak trains share the same tracks, it doesn't stop here. You either get off or on at Quantico or Woodbridge stations. Like other train stations, if you are depending on timely arrivals and departures, your trip is affected by the weather, train breakdowns (unfortunately that has happened too frequently), if other trains are using the tracks during your trip, and other VRE trains preceding your trip. The VRE Fredericksburg train lines share tracks with VRE Manassas train lines at a certain point (Alexandria to DC). If either train line is running late, it can affect later trains. Check their website for trip updates. Cost from this stop is the same price as the Woodbridge stop because both stations are considered under the same zone. I took them up front to the manager to explain that I was not going to purchase them. She was very rude when I tried to show her how huge one piece was and how small the other was. "I don't know math" she said when I told her I asked for a 1/4 yard. I tried to show her how much difference there was between the two pieces and she said "So don't buy them then, whatever". I walked out. This is the second time this week I have had a negative experience when asking for help. Same person cutting fabric was rude and waved her hand in the general direction of where she thought magnets were earlier this week. Combine this with the fact that the shelves are increasingly empty and there are boxes and racks all over the floors. It's starting to look like JoAnns before that went out of business. I just genuinely didn't understand the refusal. While waiting, I overheard another cashier explaining the day's color-tag discounts and promotions to a different customer. Joe never offered us any of that information. We were met with rudeness and dismissiveness from him. When the manager came over, she had an attitude and talked over me as I tried to explain what was going on. She said Joe meant "there's no deals on Sundays" and pointed to the sign. I told her I already knew that, I can read, and I've been a member there for years. I was trying to explain that Joe had refused to let me enter my phone number, sign my mom up for a membership, or tell us about the color-tag discounts, claiming it was too late because the store was closing , even though there were still people in the store.
