Great store, friendly staff. I found the hardware items I needed for some home repairs and bought some feed for my horses.

Like other big chains if you navigate the app for digital coupons and buy 5 items when you need 1, you can get a decent price. Sadly, the Walmart across the street is a "Unsuperstore," so you won't get good produce either place. Most annoyingly, trying to get past the group raising money outside is an effort, but then you'll be asked at self-checkout and maybe even confronted by an employee to give to a charity you may, or may not, have heard of. We give to charity, we don't come to the grocery store to do it. If Giant wants to give to charity, they area multibillion dollar company. If you can manage the drive to Harris Teeter, you'll regain some humanity.

For my lunch the rest of the week I also ordered a half pound of the mesquite smoked turkey breast. I was also glad to see that sesame seed bagels however they only had those in six packs which was definitely more than I need. On a spur note, I couldn't find the half & half cold Arizona Tea that I like, and I don't believe every Safeway store has those. This store does a pretty good job keeping most items in stock. All in all, it was a quick trip at this store today, and I didn't run I to any issues.

HARASSED & HAD MY CART TAKEN AWAY FROM ME, by an EMPLOYEE/"MANAGER"!!!…read more Shopping for many items for every aspect of life and it was a full cart of items, because it's MY PREROGATIVE as a CUSTOMER! First, a relatively nice worker named Charles approached me and asked what I was up to. Obviously I'm shopping and doing nothing wrong. He offered/insisted on bringing me a larger shopping cart. I agreed, and thought he was just trying to be helpful. After I transferred all my items over into the bigger shopping cart, I began to notice Charles kept walking down whatever aisle I was in every few minutes or so. It was this moment when I initially began to feel like I was being watched, and I was EXTREMELY UNCOMFORTABLE! Just a few moments later, a rude guy in a white button down shirt, looking like a supervisor or manager of some sort. Never got his name, but he was an older gentleman with balding hair and a grey mustache. Right away I was uncomfortable even more. All I was doing was shopping for my family, and he made it clear that having lots of items in my cart was "triggering ALL of their security cameras, and had got all their attention!" But WHY?!?! He stood there with me looking through all of the items in my cart and making me feel like I was doing something wrong or illegal. I WAS JUST SHOPPING AT SAFEWAY (for the very last time, EVER!)!!! So THIS IS WHAT FINALLY PUT ME OVER THE EDGE.... The white button down shirt, mustached, balding "supervisor" returned to harass me AGAIN, and this time he brought me a brand new, empty cart, and then he proceeded to literally take my cart away! As he has already walked halfway down the aisle I was in with my cart, he finally stops and turns around to answer my questions. This little man child of a supervisor kept repeating that he was going to keep MY cart that's nearly full of products "up front for when I'm ready to check out." I wasn't even close to being done going through all of the aisles, and I repeated to him that I didn't want a new cart, that I hadn't even fully decided on several items in my cart, and asked him how was I supposed to remember specifics about the items/products that were in my cart. He REFUSED to let me keep using my cart. Said it was a quote, "safety and security issue!" This man was the rudest, most obnoxious, and degrading employee/worker I've ever been forced to communicate with! He told me to just keep shopping with this new and empty cart he had brought to me. I NEVER once asked for help, I NEVER once asked for another cart (even though TWO different employees brought me replacement carts for my stuff. All I was doing at this Safeway/grocery store in Burke Centre, Virginia was trying to shop for many people that can't afford much of anything in life right now. BUT, it was completely ruined by this obnoxious little man child employee or supervisor...whatever he is, but he doesnt even know what his job is! Because I can guarantee his job doesn't involve HARASSING PAID/PAYING CUSTOMERS - or - TAKING CUSTOMERS CARTS AWAY FROM THEM WITHOUT ASKING (& REFUSING TO GIVE THEM BACK!!!) - or - constantly watching me shop...JUST BECAUSE I WAS GOING TO BUY A LOT OF "STUFF!" I've shopped at this Safeway in Burke Centre, Virginia ever since I can remember. This is the Safeway that's located on Burke Centre Parkway near the CVS, PNC Bank, Chipotle, Cold Stone, McDonalds, Taco Bell, Wells Fargo Banl, and an Exxon Gas Station!!! AVOID SHOPPING AT THIS SAFEWAY AT ALL COSTS! THIS MAKES ME SO UPSET! I've grown up shopping there almost everyday as an adult, and I'd go with my parents to help them shop when I was just a young kid! THEY DON'T RESPECT THEIR CUSTOMERS! Especially with the prices they're charging us now...IT'S MORE OF A REASON TO NOT SHOP AT THIS SPECIFIC SAFEWAY AT ALLc

After spending the day storm prepping my home and my mother's home yesterday afternoon, my last "to…read moredo" was to pick up my prescription incase we would be snowed in for days. On my way to the Giant on Ox road I looked up their hours and saw they closed at 6:00. I called this pharmacy at 5:50 PM to explain that I would arrive right at 6:00-6:02 PM and asked, given the imminent ice storm and public safety warnings telling people to stay off the roads for days, whether there was any flexibility to pick up my prescription that evening. The response I received from the female pharmacist was cold, dismissive, and repeatedly reduced to "we close at six, you can pick up your prescription tomorrow at 7AM" without any acknowledgment of the situation, the stress involved, or even basic courtesy. There was no attempt to explain why there was no flexibility, no recognition that severe weather creates real risk and urgency, and no effort to offer alternatives such as transferring the prescription to another location with longer hours or discussing next steps. I was spoken to as though my concern was an inconvenience rather than a reasonable request during an emergency situation. In fact, I was told on the phone that the pharmacy was "already closed" despite it being only 5:50 PM at this point. What made this especially upsetting was the complete absence of empathy. A simple sentence--"I'm really sorry, I understand why this is stressful"--or even honest transparency about system limitations would have changed the entire interaction. Instead, I was met with rigidity and indifference at a moment when compassion matters most. While my prescription was not life-threatening (note, I was at no point asked what my prescription was), this experience was deeply concerning on a moral basis. It's impossible not to think about how devastating this kind of dismissive treatment could be for someone who does need critical medication, especially during severe weather when options are limited. Policies are one thing. Treating people like they don't matter because the clock is about to hit closing time is another. This interaction fell far short of the standard of care and humanity patients should expect. I hope this location reflects on how these situations are handled and improves its approach to patient communication. I wanted to post my review as I'll be starting the trek to pick up my prescription today, despite the iced over roads and VDOTs recommendations to stay home, and tomorrow will be calling my doctor to transfer my prescription to a pharmacy that has the bandwidth to treat their patients with a bit more compassion and empathy.

Wegman's also has excellent meat and seafood sections. The bakery is impressive. And one thing they have improved since we first shopped here five years ago is that they have toned down the blasting music that used to make us want to get fast out of Wegman's. The hot foods section used to be pretty good, but now it has shriveled down to next to nothing, The take-home pre-prepared meals, while very good in quality, are exorbitant. Plan on spending $16-$18 for a simple meal, which is as much as you would pay in a restaurant for the same stuff. While they have an abundance of self-check stations, Wegman's doesn't let you get cash back, like you can at Safeway. The self-check stations can be persnickety. Today, I encountered one machine claiming I had put an unchecked item in the bagging item before I had even started scanning my stuff. Yikes! But what I really don't like is how Wegman's does bagging. The Virginia legislature in 2022 passed a law allowing grocery stores to collect from customers 5¢ for each plastic bag used. Wegman's has completely done away with plastic bags, yet Wegman's but takes advantage of that law to charge 5¢ for each paper bag. The icing on the cake is their paper sacks do not even have handles.

What makes this situation even more ironic is the message printed on the store's bag: "Always FRESH!". Unfortunately, my experience was the exact opposite. This isn't really about the money. The amount is small. The issue is that customers should not be sold produce that is already rotten inside. If a store promotes "Always Fresh," there should be proper quality control to ensure the products on the shelf actually meet that promise. I hope someone from Fresh World's management or marketing team reaches out to address this situation, offer the appropriate apology, and refund the purchase. Regardless of the price, customers should not have to pay for food that is already spoiled. I'm sharing this so other shoppers are aware and can check their produce carefully when buying from this store.
