This Giant is a ways from my home, but they had a vaccine in stock that I needed, so I made a trip to their pharmacy. Everyone was so nice, the process was very quick and efficient, and the pharmacist was kind enough to share helpful information about my shot. I did some quick shopping after, and the store is clean, well stocked, and seemed to have a great deli/prepared foods section, fresh flowers. Parking was easy - they even have charging stations for electric cars - and is conveniently located in a big plaza with a ton of other great shops. I wish I lived closer, I'd make this my primary go-to for groceries! read more

Very deceptive food packaging going on in the meat department. Giant meat department has taken to cutting and packaging their beef in very deceptive ways...and I will NOT be going back. Liars. I hope this trend does not spread. I paid $24 for a premium steak which was cut and packaged to appear like a small filet of beef. Except it wasn't filet. It was sirloin. Tough, chewy sirloin. The medallions were deceptively cut to look like a filet. Priced just as high, too. We always cook our beef rare. This was the chewiest toughest sirloin I have ever had. Giant - This is wrong. At the Starbucks inside, she was not mixing our iced mocha's. You could see all the ingredients. I asked her nicely if she could stir them. She told me that there were stir sticks out there!! it took us a while to stir all the mochas. Recently they didn't put any chocolate in one of our mocha's. Another time they didn't put any hazelnut into the iced latte. The Starbucks employees are either overwhelmed or they don't care. I asked and she applied at giant not at Starbucks. read more

Giant is better than Safeway. That sounds like a ringing endorsement! Actually it is we while Giant can be expensive, they aren't as ridiculous as their main competitor. Most of us now shop at Aldi, Lidl, Walmart, Trader Joe's, and Asian grocery stores to save money. Yet there are times and places for a Giant. For instance they occasionally have solid deals on beef or chicken. Here I've done well with chicken breasts for the crock pot especially. Also you can get all the ingredients here, which lets be honest is sometimes the most sane decision. There are sales on chips and sodas for teenagers growing. This store has helpful employees. To its credit it is quite clean. This works for my crock or grilling materials, and for that I am grateful. read more

Not the cleanest. Caters to college students. Sky high prices. On numerous ocassional they've sold us expired food; they obviously don't manage their inventory whatsoever. Hot dogs for sale in their refrigerator recently were 4 months past the expiration date... Yesterday I bought a $50 Amazon gift card to give as a gift. Turned it over and the cardboard part was covered in sticky greasy goop that didn't wipe off. Looked like fingerprints. They refused to exchange the card for a clean one. University Mall Giant. I like this GMU store for its Starbucks and seating area, the cleanliness and friendly staff, but am not impressed in my case with their inability to follow through on its customer services and special requests, and the lack of training of young employees. I found it impossible to solve this problem over a couple of months after speaking to three store managers and multiple times to one deli manager at the Giant in the University Mall Shopping Center. This Giant began including cod in their wing bar, which was GREAT. It was the only place to get good fish at a reasonable rate without the high rates of a sit-down restaurant. It was one of many very appealing choices for customers. Then they suddenly stopped serving cod, occasionally substituting a salty crusty crunchy fishy non-desirable white fish. They changed the whole selection of choices for the worse to smaller amounts and non-wing protein and carbohydrate options. The cod has less salt, and though deep fried, is healthier than the white fish. None of five managers I spoke with at this Giant were able to again actually add cod to the selection, despite promises to do so. The deli manager was unable to add cod to the selection - 4 managers. Then I asked for a name and address of the store owner, which I never got. I went to another Giant store in Twin Brook Shopping Center, and a young first line supervisor of their wing bar, not only had a solution, but has effectively provided cod on a frequent basis. No senior manager at this second store needed get involved. Impressive junior supervisor skillsets at this other Giant store. read more

Very inappropriate conduct on the part of the pharmacist, which I observed this morning. He is telling homeless people they must have ID to get a COVID vaccine, in violation of the law and company policy. His exact comment, "Well, it's our policy." Avoid any pharmacy where the pharmacist is not willing to follow the law or his own company's policy. A copy of that policy is attached, as well as a photo of the pharmacist in question. read more

New store hours are a joke! Weekdays: closes at 9 pm Saturday: 6 pm Sunday: 5 pm???? A few other reasons now to shop here: -Self check out makes you feel like a thief and locks up with every other item you scan. - This happens without fail EVERY time I come here...There are never any shopping baskets available when you walk in, you are forced to go to the self checkout area to snag a used one. 11/30/19 Nice Giant and well organized. Since Thanksgiving ended, many people were still stuff and the store was nearly empty when we arrived. I liked the color changing minaret near the Giant Foods store. It is something that really stands out from other Giant Food stores. The wine section was one of the most well stocked areas I have ever seen. It made things easy to find and buy. Nice job Giant Foods Employees. read more

Why work in customer service if you are rude and have zero desire to help a customer. I called to ask if an item was in stock and their response was "umm probably not." I responded "could someone please check before I drive all the way into the store?" She let out a giant sigh and said "hold on!" Now THIS is a grocery store. Not your fancy-shnancy-mega-where-the-heck-is the spaghetti sauce sorta place! I actually felt a sense of nostalgia shopping here. It reminded me of the Giant in Alexandria my mom and I used to go to when I was a kid. This store has not had all of the modern renovations. Just straight forward, normal grocery store. Other than the random flashback I had, everything was well organized, big, bold signs to notify which items were on sale. I am big on fresh produce, so when I saw several bags of spoiled clementines I was sorta bummed, even though I had no intention to purchase them. But maybe, right?! There was also a little basket of fresh ginger, however it was totally shriveled up and not usable. But I didn't come here for those items! I came in here for mini-crispy-cucumbers, which they had on sale, and they were fresh, score! Check out was speedy, no line, but it was very late. Cashier was friendly. I'll return, but I've made a mental note not to come here for clementines and ginger. read more

Pre-renovation Giant probably deserves the 3 stars it currently has but current Giant definitely does not! They remodeled this store during my junior year, and honestly when it was done I couldn't believe how much it had changed. It's probably the best Giant I've ever been to. They have a wine bar where you can sample their wines and beers, and when I went they gave my boyfriend and I a free hotdog. You can also have popcorn if you get a drink. I've never seen a grocery store with a bar in it, but it's pretty good. It's also an excuse to drink wine after you get your groceries. Which, if you're a college student, you don't need an excuse but oh well. I come here pretty much weekly and I love their selection of healthy food and cheese. Especially the cheese, if we're being honest. I used to have to go to Whole Foods or Wegman's if I wanted decent cheese but Giant has a great variety now. Also, definitely hit up their discount baked goods, as you can usually find some good stuff for really cheap. They also give a discount for Mason students, so I think that and its proximity to campus makes it an essential for sure for any Mason student. The only thing I'd say is a negative is that some of their prepared food that they sell at the deli isn't very good and they don't really have a good selection of meat like other grocery stores do. Also, all of the employees here are really nice, and they'll recognize you as a Mason student and give you the discount without asking for your ID even if you've only been there once or twice. read more

I only shop here because it's the closest grocery store to my house. But the service is bad and they don't have what I'm looking for. The cashier often poorly bags the groceries, so then when I walk to my car the bag rips. This has happened twice, and once my salsa I just purchased fell out through the hole and the lid broke. So i quickly walked back in, since I had also just bought ice cream , and went to the customer service to ask for a new , I showed the receipt because the guy there looked at me like I was lying and he reluctantly said I can go get a new jar of salsa. Today I walked through every aisle twice , looking for the spices but couldn't not find it , no one was there to help. And I went to the self check out so I can properly bag my own groceries. They recently remodeled this Giant, and it definitely is more upscale than all the others that I've been to, it was previously fairly run down, so this update was a welcome change. What I like about it is they seem to have healthier food options than other chain grocery stores, and their prices are often slightly lower as well. I get somewhat of a cost effective Whole Foods vibe. They have several self-checkout kiosks, more than most Safeway stores, so the lines are rarely (if ever) very long. I went there after I left the adjacent comic shop to get some milk and food for dinner, and I don't have a Giant card, but a clerk came over, waived her badge near the sensor, and got me the member discount! Another good thing is that the portions seem to cater to single individuals. When I buy chicken breasts at other locations, they are often large packages that could feed a family, and my roommate uses a lot of the freezer space. This Giant seems to cater to the college student or the young professional bachelor, and they sell chicken in individually wrapped packages. That way, I buy exactly what I need to last a few days. Yay for single life! The only downside is that it seems that they lack certain products that other chains carry. read more

I needed to visit the customer service counter in the evening, as the front end manager did not have access to the office. Waited 25 minutes for Kristen, who was supposed to be taking care of something in the back. After waiting 15 minutes, I actually walked through the back of the store supply area yelling her name. No Kristen, and no one else was authorized to help. If an emergency had occurred, this store was completely unprepared to respond. Horrible leadership and responsiveness. I shudder to think how the food is cared for, if staying on duty is beyond her capacity. Personally, I won't risk it and will take my business elsewhere. read more

This Giant does the trick for me. My family seems to hate it, but it's been here for a long, long time and always has what I'm looking for. Sometimes you don't want a shopping experience or a culinary adventure -- sometimes you just want to pick up a dozen eggs, a pack of gum, and some milk. This is the place. Store layout is decent, the produce is fine, service exists, etc.; like I said, this does the trick. Add in proximity to George Mason University, the options at University Mall, and nearby residential areas and you've got a very conveniently-located, if unremarkable, Giant Food. read more

What a strange grocery store. It's located in the University Mall across from GMU. I ran in here the other day before class to grab some munchies and I thought I had time traveled to 1985. The store literally looks like it hasn't been changed since. It was kind of creepy, actually. The same goes for the employees there, that had zombie-esque personalities. First off, the prices are nothing to shout about, Giant is more pricey than other grocery stores. Next, the organization of the store is all over the place and when I went in looking for plastic forks - the staff couldn't even point me to the right aisle. The location is convenient, especially for the college, because it is within walking distance of George Mason U. They definitely need to better train their staff and change up the layout. read more

Small, filthy, and badly managed. This store is walking distance from my home, but I go miles out of my way to avoid it. I bought a fresh turkey breast on sale for Christmas and discovered a few days later that they had put a different "sell by" sticker (3/20/13) over the turkey's original "sell by" date (12/26/12). Hey, what's 3 months among friends? Good thing I noticed the stench in my fridge. Be sure to inspect fresh products carefully before buying. This store clearly has minimal traffic and not enough turnover to keep stock fresh. I recently went to buy English muffins and every single package on the shelf was a day or two past its "sell by" date. They don't even bother to remove stale product -- they just hope customers will buy it and not notice. The clerks are usually students from GMU (across the street), and therefore they are inexperienced and there appears to be a lot of turnover and not much training. If you happen to buy beer or wine, the underage students can't ring you up without summoning the manager from elsewhere in the store. (Great system, Giant! Take a tip from Target and get an electronic system to read the driver's license.) In addition to suffering from the lack of SKUs (limited merchandise offered) that plagues all Giant Food stores since they reduced their offering a few years ago, this sad little store has an even more severely limited offering due to its limited capacity. read more

With the new remodel, this is now my second-favorite Giant in the area. Although still relatively small, it uses long, wide aisles to make it easy to navigate -- something lacking at the new on in Kings Park which has very narrow aisles. read more

Since the remodeling, this Giant has become much better. With additional choices, and a layout that maximizes the available space, there is much to like at this location, even an in-store Starbucks. It is convenient, offers self-checkout and has late hours, which are pluses. The bakery section is typical Giant, and doesn't offer much in the way of vegan or allergen diet products. Captive audience, thanks to the Geo Mason University students. Not a surprise that the snack, soda, pizza and ice cream selections are usually pretty good. Some of the cashiers are very good, but the whole store looks and feels weary and way overdue for a makeover. Very conveniently located and that's probably why it's still open. read more

Well I have been shopping here for a while after work, I work at George Mason nearby, to grab a few items while heading home. Used to be a lovely experience with great employees and groceries. However, my favorite employee has disappeared. I would come in every Tuesday to see her, but now I can not remember her name for it has been so long (and I'm just too old). She was young and worked at the self checkout, she was always the best to customers there late night. I called twice to see what happened and was given two different answers...one being that she was sick and coming back soon and another being that she is on vacation. Unfortunately, I still haven't seen her since, but I think I will go in person and ask the young man she always talked to where she could be. Such a mystery, let's all find the self checkout girl! Other than that, the store is still great for quick grocery pickups. Employees there, while not the same, are still pleasant and helpful. Great job Giant, now it is just time to fix those prices! read more
