Hands down the BEST tour for Washington DC. We did the DC do it all 6 hour tour. Time flies and you see everything in DC. 2nd time I've taken it and would highly recommend to anyone. Very knowledgeable tour Guide (Leon) and super friendly! Hop on hop off. No pressure to get back on the bus to get pics of the monuments and memorials. Worth every penny! read more

We took a chance on a groupon for this bus tour and really felt sorry for anyone who paid full price. We took three buses during the day. The first one was ok, the second had a great guide but unfortunately the bus broke down. We then got on with a horrible tour guide and a sound system that blared his ramblings in our heads for an hour while we were stuck in traffic. read more

Overall a great way to see the city. Signage for stops was severely lacking and left us wondering if we were at the right place. Mobile app is not accurate. Shows stops in the wrong places and is not up to date (printed map is more accurate). On a couple of occasions waited for nearly an hour for a bus to arrive. I've seen several reviews where the representative indicates the website says 30-40 minutes between buses. This is not accurate as it states 20-30 minutes. Other tour buses came multiple times while we waited. read more

This is very unorganized and very few buses. Would not recommend. Long time between busrs and stops are not clearly marked at all locations. Doesn't tell you to call for the night tour. Not enough information on the website or brochure. read more

I should have anticipated a miserable experience when we could not even find the place. When I finally called about location, they told me to ignore what the Internet address gave and go somewhere else. They were never on time. They dropped you off and promised a 30 minute rotation of buses but that was no where near the truth. At minimum, 1 hour. While waiting at stop 15, Lincoln Memorial, we waited 1.5 hours. Therefore, had to blow-off Arlington National Cemetery. So disappointing. Every other tour companies bus ran 4 times before a D.C. Trail picked us up. If your tour bus is not at Union Station, skip it. Good luck! read more

DC Trails - Buses Near Me - Lorton, Virginia

Today was the hottest day of the year so far which is we decided on getting tickets for the bus with air conditioning. Although... the air conditioning didn't work! Terrible experience. It felt better outside in the 94 degree weather, than in the bus.. at least outside had some airflow read more

Had Sunday tickets and it seemed as if they were understaffed. They didn't offer all the stops and we saw other hop on and off service providers more frequently on our route so we had to wait. Getting started was rough as we started at stop 8 but the bus drove by and never stopped. Walked to stop 9 and followed the map through the app but the stop was on the opposite corner so missed the bus again. Wait times were 40 minutes so walked to another stop to get the bus. At one point I called the 800 number as it wasn't clear through the app which corner to stand and he did tell me there were signs. Read a lot on the website but didn't see that so that's a helpful hint as the map isn't precise. The customer service wasn't great as the man on the phone was rude. Our second bus of the day was the best as the tour guide actually spoke and was super funny whereas on our first run, they played the pre-recorded your. Took the free shuttle to Arlington National Cemetery and had an awful experience. We got on and the driver was arguing with the dispatcher saying they needed help as they were asking him to go to another stop off his route in Crystal City. He was telling and at them and when he got off the phone sitting in the front seats we were able to hear him muttering and swearing under his breath. This went on for all of our 3 mile trip to Crystal City. He explained to us and the other family they were asking him to make this out of the way trip and then continued to mutter under his breath. My son thought he was going to purposely crash the bus as he's never seen an adult act like this. We were too afraid to call and complain as he was our only way back from Arlington. The only reason I'm giving 3 stars is because of how good the one driver was. read more

Funny, educated, and interactive tour guide. I had Dre as my tour guide and he gets 5/5 stars! A very interesting and historical way to spend your day or evening for all those who want to learn more about this nation's history! The night tours are simply beautiful, the monuments have a different vibe at sunset. read more

Henry the DC Trail tour guide is what made our tour of Washington DC amazing! He provided information of the sites while all the time remaining engaging with the tourist on board! Bravo Henry! read more

Worst hop on and off bus service. Use Circulator or Big Bus B. They came 3x while waiting on DC Trails. We waited over 45 minutes more than once, wasting a good chunk of our time. Extremely disappointed. read more

The twilight tour was phenomenal!!! The guide was very knowledgeable and entertaining and really made my trip--Very satisfying! The next morning we went on the hop on hop off and was a different story. We weren't warned about the road closures and were left standing in an area they would not be picking up from that day. We walked a little over a mile to the start of the 1st stop and asked when the next bus would leave. The response? --Whenever the guide gets here. He was late, seemed hung over and verbalized he did not like his job. The driver had just the same attitude. The don't give a F attitude. Once we did get started we could hardly understand the guide even though he was speaking English. If not for the awesome twilight tour and guide I'd have given this 1 star. I hope the rest of the day is better as I only have a few hours to tour this beautiful town. read more

Such a horrible experience, I wish I could give a negative star!! The communication was horrendous, we waited and waited for the guided city tour bus and finally were told the bus was cancelled and they were "sorry" but I should have gotten an email- I didn't. I should have learned my lesson because the next day we planned to take an additional bus to Mt. Vernon. THAT bus was late and then there weren't enough seats to accommodate the amount of people and then we needed to wait for another bus and THEN we were told because the bus was so late that we couldn't have the first part of the tour because they needed to get us back in time. Of course, the drivers are not at fault, they were very patient with the process. (There's the one star.) Also, we had a dreadful time figuring out how to get our $ back. Do NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!! We were the suckers watching other tour companies arrive promptly, load up quickly and then move right along, smiling. read more

The buses were almost an hour late for our 4am pickup. Nothing on the US175 bus works except for the toilet. The driver took 20 minutes longer at the rest stop while all the riders sat waiting. I hope the rest of the trip gets better. read more

The worst bus in DC. DO NOT TAKE THIS BUS. All customer support was extremely rude. Continuously put on "hold" while they passed around the phone to make up with reasons on why the bus was late. In a span of an hour and a half, we were told the bus was only "15 minutes away" multiple times. Spent a large amount of money for mediocre service. Very dissapointed, ruined our trip. read more

The tour would've been great, except they overbooked it. There was an empty bus waiting behind the first one and instead of letting the extra passengers go on that bus, they put all of the overflow people downstairs where the ac didn't work. The driver said he has told the company multiple times and they say oh well. I didn't pay $45/person to take pictures in a sweaty bus through a tinted window. I could've done that on public transportation. Then we called the company and got hung up on twice and then they told us to F off. Definitely don't recommend this company. read more

I am giving DC Trails 2 stars when comparing to other tour buses/hop on hop off services I have used in other cities. First of all, the buses are advertised as coming around every few minutes. In reality it is more like 30 - 45 minutes and when it is all of 27 degrees outside this is a problem. I was about to give up and just order a Lyft. After seeing how long it took for a bus to come by to pick you up you tend to think twice before "hopping off" on a stop you don't intend to spend that amount of time exploring. Once the bus does show up it was filled to the max and passengers had to sit upstairs in the open air in the same 27 degree weather which no one wanted to do. The company may want to limit the amount of tickets sold on each day and or increase the number of buses. The tour guide was very negative which unfortunately set the tone on the bus. He would use his microphone to yell at pedestrians and drivers; calling them stupid among other things which was not very appropriate especially since there were children on the bus. There wasn't much on the cities history as I was hoping. I found myself counting the minutes until I could get OFF of the bus even though it was freezing out. read more

Waited over an hour and a half at one stop. The app showed 3 busses just sitting at the first bus stop. The Big Bus Tour came by 3 times while we were waiting. The workers were not very helpful. We were also told when we got our tickets that the night tour was included, then it was not. Save your time and just go ahead and get the Big Bus Tour instead. read more

The tour guide Bella was the best! Very informative and personable. Only drawback to this tour is that we waited for a bit for a pick up and saw several other tour busses pass by before ours got back read more

This was the most boring, incomprehensible tour ever. The tour guide talked so fast and sounded like she just wanted to get through her recitation as quickly as possible. If we asked a question she either made a joke or answered in a hurried, condescending way. She seemed eager to empty the bus. She strongly recommended we get off and go to a holiday outdoor street fair that was not even open til later in the month. Find a better tour. This was a waste of time and money. read more

Their Twilight Cruise (one where you get off and back on the same bus) was a great disappointment. I booked and paid 2 months in advance for a school group of 19, just to find upon arrival that the only seats available were on the upper open air deck. While the tour does advertise it runs rain or shine, and thin rain ponchos are provided, the seats had standing water on them and the crew was unprepared to dry them. It was a cold day so we came bundled up, and we were still freezing up there. They offered us to reschedule which was not an option due to our schedule. Most people not lucky enough to obtain an inside seat left after the first stop. Our group alone would have filled the lower level of the bus. Clearly, not a company concerned with their customers' comfort. Luckily, there are other companies that provide sheltered upper decks. We'll take our business to them next year! read more

Bullshit, we got to our bus, and were forced on to a bus that was more full than the first bus. As the first bus drove away, our driver came up and said, " sorry guys we won't be able to go anymore, our tour guide hasn't showed up ". Fuck. This is stupid. We leave tommarow and my mom is pissed. She almost 3-4 magregored this dude. We can't see any of the monuments. Just find a different tour bus company. Honestly. And they just announced that there will be no refunds! Wtf. Just waisted money to sit on a none moving bus for 32 min! Bull fucking shit! read more

Took the Mount Vernon tour with driver Charles Smith. Charles was friendly, informative, and amusing (without trying to be a comedian). His skill wheeling that big bus through the narrow Alexandria streets was impressive read more

Fully recommend this service tour and a good price too :)....

DO NOT GO ON THIS TOUR!! We went on this tour on April 6during the cherry blossom festival. DC was mobbed, but we missed stops in the tour, and the bus left late from L'Enfant plaza and then we were left at the Lincoln Memorial for over an hour waiting for the bus to come. When I called the office, they were very unresponsive. While we were waiting for DC Trails, at least 10 ILD TOWN TROLLEY tours came by. Use them! read more

It was our first time in DC, so thanks to groupon we decided to try the DC Trails hop on hop off tour. It was an excellent way to see the city, and Bella made the experience even more wonderful. You could tell she was reciting a script but was very familiar with the city and its history. A definite must. read more

Don't waste your time with this company. It takes at least an hour for the bus to show up, meanwhile both Big Bus Compant and Old Town Trolley will have 6 or so buses through. It also does not offer refunds and does not go to Arlington Cemetary. If you truly want to be able to hop on and off and see more than a site or two, choose a different company. read more

The tour guide, Ralph, was the best! Ralph was very knowledgable about DC history, monuments, landmarks, buildings, and other locations. He was personable and made the tour a lot of fun. The driver, Nick, was outstanding and kept the bus moving at a good pace while safely driving. I highly recommend DC Trails, and be sure to seek out Ralph and Nick! read more

I bought my family of 4 tickets for the hop on hop off tour for Sunday May 29th. I called the company 2 days before to make sure the buses we're running because of Rolling Thunder event going on. I was told Yes. When we showed up at the fist stop no bus was there. I called and was told the bus was not running because of Rolling Thunder. Lady told me it wasn't their problem. No refund would be given. This company is horrible. Pick another tour bus company. read more

We did a twilight tour. We were so excited for it and then ended up being very disappointed. We felt super rushed at every stop and feared getting left behind at a couple of them. My mother was a little slower so the time at the stops and the distance we had to walk to each was unrealistic for her. It's lucky we'd visited several of the biggies already (we were looking for the twilight/evening photo ops) because the time given barely allowed you to get to it, shoot a pic or two, and rush back. We didn't visit all of the destinations listed on the site's twilight tour page. If one of the passengers hadn't asked, the driver was going to skip right over the Jefferson Memorial. Felt like we took off late and may have contributed to the rushed feel and short-changed sites. Hard to understand what the guide was sharing about each monument or place. For the transfers back to hotels the assigned van took more people than they'd brought (they used to vans to pick up but only one for drop offs) and didn't have enough seats or seat belts for each rider. If I hadn't had a seatbelt for my mom and me I would've refused to ride. Wouldn't waste my money on it if I could do it again. read more

Took advantage of the groupon deal this weekend and it was great. Yes it's true that other tour bus ran more frequent and their signs are everywhere. We went to the Washington monument ticket booth and on the right hand side of that BIG BUS has their own designated bus pull up section and 2 employees directing you. Dc trail stop is under the arch by the Holocaust museum. Forget the street name. So yes this tour feels like a small local business owner tour. So less buses but on a weekend the buses truly did run 20 mins apart. Maybe others are speaking of slower weekday. We hop off and on 4 times and had no problems. We waited little awhile but no longer than 20 mins. It is not a taxi tour plus there are many food trucks so we grabbed some ice cream and drinks and enjoyed being outside on a sunny weekend. We watched people walk by and truly experienced the melting pot in america. 3 out of 4 guides were great. All had different personalities and so much info. Many made great suggestions for food or sites. Overall great. The driver were very skilled and very impressive. I would take the tour again. And for those from out of town. It's really impossible to visit DC in two days if you want to go in the museums. So please don't book a bus tou ...any tour bus expecting this. read more

I usually write positive reviews; I'm inclined to want to call out good service, and not make too much of a fuss about bad service. However, in this case, I was enormously disappointed in D.C. Trails and wanted to give the business a heads up that they should up their game, and to warn folks that they should beware. I was in D.C. when it was super hot. The busses were not air-conditioned, so you either had to sit in a wicked hot bus, or ascend to the top deck to be seared by the sun. Yikes. Even though I'd spent $52 for a two-day hop-on-hop-off tour, I abandoned them in about 2 hours, and went out on my own. The tour guides and bus drivers were sweating and miserable - I felt for them. So, at least it it's HOT outside, maybe check to see if the busses have working air conditioning before you commit. read more

Great tour! Recommended for locals tourists. Our tour guide Dion was awesome. He was very knowledgeable and provided a fun experience. Each turn he had a new and fun interesting fact. probably the worst of the tours of my life I think they only have a bus wait for 2 hours are the worst

Good price. Unimpressive guide. BIGGEST issue was that they've removed Arlington Cemetary from their stops so we were dependent on a shuttle from there/to there. Waited over an hour to get picked up. Would not recommend. read more

Do not trust this company. I was both misinformed and mislead by representatives and their website. There is misinformation on their website in multiple places including their maps and listed stops. I was guaranteed by a customer representative, Joey, a refund after proving the information to him that I had been misinformed. Upon follow up for the refund I was denied by the manager and lied to. The tour guides are falling asleep, the administration doesn't believe it's customers, and they cost my family $200 to do so. I learned the hard way not to trust this company, don't make the mistake. read more

It was great, been to DC before but first time I decided to do the tour and do not regret the expense. I don't know if there are several tour guides but Dione was amazing!!! I was told by a coworker to look out for him He does the evening tour. Best ever, loved this tour!!! read more

Pick any other company: How is this company even in business? Company has poor (to no) customer service and employees simply can not be bothered. We booked/purchased the twilight trip through the hotel concierge for two minors, myself, and older father. Hotel pick-up was late (brought to independent site), teenagers working were fighting over who would do check-in (for 10 minutes) (nobody wanted to do it), and when we were the last in line to get on board (see late pick-up and nobody to check-in) we were told that the minor children would have to sit alone/separately from each other and an adult. Employees then refused to offer any solutions. Staff refused suggestion to ask passengers to shift to allow an adult to sit with a minor (obvious dilemma given open-top bus/moving vehicle/etc.), simply because they "did not want to." Despite being repeatedly assured that there were multiple busses, there was just this one over-booked bus. We asked to talk to a supervisor and for a refund if could not be made to work. After reluctance and the bus driving off, we were eventually put in touch on the phone with an individual who said the seats were "subject to availability" and non-refundable. However, we could make a written request for a refund. Being stuck outside central DC, we had to demand to be returned to our hotel. Bad. Bad. Bad. Noting: Notified both my CC company and hotel. Noting: We second the other reviews, Uber-ing to the various monuments turned out to be a much better/easier/cheaper experience. read more

Went for a night tour with Dre as our guide. While personally, I could sit down and enjoy a drink with Dre, with his quirky personality and conspiracy theories, he was just not a good guide. He walked so quickly at every stop that half of us were struggling to keep up with him. He explained that he was losing his voice, but even so, it was nearly impossible to hear him speaking from only a few feet away. While some of the stories he told are things you certainly won't hear anywhere else (true or false), Dre gave his tour with more than a touch of condescension. I also did not need to know that he would sew his "thumb toe" onto his hand if he ever lost his fingers. (Oh, we all heard that, over the mic in the bus...) Overall, it was an odd, confusing, sometimes funny, partly informative but not ultimately worthwhile experience. read more

Might be a good tour if you can get on the bus. We purchased a discount ticket (two for one) from Living Social and took a day off work to drive into DC to take the tour. Most tours leave from Union Station, which has plenty of parking and is easy to access. Not this one. This tour starts at L'Enfant Plaza where the only available parking is Reserved or No. We did get a nice tour of the rather huge parking garage after several attendants directed us down blind alleys, and we did get to practice our navigation skills backing all the way out between trucks and posts, but that was not the purpose of this adventure. The only way to get to an embarkation point on this tour is to take the Metro. Since we've experienced the Metro (managing to survive one of its several fires), we avoid it whenever possible. I suggest you do the same, and take one of the tours originating at Union Station, like DC Ducks or Big Bus Tours http://www.unionstationdc.com/info/sightseeing read more
