Found this company on Groupon and what a find! Our guides were great (some more cheerful than others), the buses are clean and they have an app so you know where you are in real life and you can see where the buses are as well. The app has its little failures but honestly it is a great help when you're traveling with spanish speakers only. Eventually we ran into guide Steve which spoke Spanish and made the trip for my spanish speaking parents. Great way to see the city if you have no idea what you're doing like myself. read more

This is the slowest tour company out there. We saw the other companies buses multiple times before ours even showed up. If you have hours to kill this is your company. But if you value your time don't waste your money read more

I'm glad I got a Groupon and only paid $20 but I definitely got what I paid for... A ride on a few buses. The first bus at least had a decent guide who knew something about the sites. The second was not the very worst but needed a serious refresher on the information regarding the history. Reality is they need more buses or they need to regulate the number of people reserving spots... And communicate with each other so that they know when they are over capacity/need to stop selling seats. This is not an impossible task as there are three other hop on/hop off buses operating pretty seamlessly. DO NOT PICK UNLESS YOU ABSOLUTELY MUST!!! (You really don't have to as the more expense is worth it!) read more

We used for the night tour and received a good price via Groupon. The guide (Henry) was awesome and funny and the driver (Nick) was great and we got awesome pictures. The start location was impossible to find. Their website does not have good directions and 3 GPS apps could not find them. We started in the cold and it was raining and they did not even have towels to dry the seats. I would use them again but I would find their location before booking and wait for good weather is confirmed. read more

We purchased a very cheap Groupon despite some sketchy reviews. However the experience was great! Picked the bus up outside the Air and Space Museum - didn't have to wait at all. Ride on the top deck. We did the full loop - it was probably about an hour and a half. We did hit some traffic but our tour guide gave good information and I got some great pictures. We saw at least 3 other buses running so seem to be able to keep up with crowds. Our bus was not crowded at all, despite it being April Vacation. We would never have been able to see all the sites in 2 days without taking this tour. I will say we did not hop on and off since we rode later in the day (3:00/4:00). Definitely a great touristy experience though definitely check Groupon for the discount. The one downside was I wish the speakers were set a little louder as I had trouble hearing over the city noise at times - but it wasn't enough to ruin my trip. read more

DC Trails - Great tour guide (I think his name was Ken). - Buses Near Me - Lorton, Virginia

See all

It's 95 degrees outside here in DC and your advertising buses with A/C and I'm on one where the staff you have know there is no A/C and don't even address it. Ridiculous how your selling tours and don't provide some relief from the elements. This is the first of several complaints. Second your tour guide is less than interested in his job but rather than being courteous to the "customers" is just essentially along for the ride. Third, the buses took much longer than the 20 minute estimate by the person selling tickets. I shouldn't have to call to find out where the next bus is and when it will be arriving at a stop. Lastly, he didn't even mention all the attractions at each stop, specifically the National Law Enforcement Memorial. Please don't choose this as a form of transport for your dc tour. read more

This tour was so much fun and the guide was really awesome. I would highly recommend this as a great way to see the city and you can even hop on and hop off if you see something you want to explore. Buses are nice and big and air conditioned- perfect for a hot summer day! read more

Bought the 48 hour hop on hop off tour. We only used it once and apparently they have two different routes. The bus we got on didn't go to the Hotel Harrington where we were staying but the employee doing the tour helped us out and got us to a stop close by. Had to walk a block but it was better than several blocks. Tour was informative and fun. Check Groupon for deals. read more

All we did was wait. They claim to have buses every 30 min. More like 50 min. App has poor stop information. Poor customer service.

Vincent was a great tour guide for the DC at night tour. I liked that we had time to stop and look around at several memorials. We also learned a lot about the history of our country and we had a good customer service experience overall. read more

Hopped on the bus with a Groupon! Henry was a great tour guide and the tour was informative and entertaining. Bus was very clean!

Gigantic ripoff. It is mathematically impossible to visit most of the landmarks on their tour due to the fact that their buses come so infrequently and their hours do not align at all with the hours of the museums. Also, they were closed on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend. What? Another scam considering all bus passes are valid for either 24 or 48 hours. Do not use this company. It capitalizes off of innocent tourists. read more

Exceeded our expectations!! Staff was extremely friendly. Tour guides were funny and personable and had a wealth of knowledge! Highly recommend this! It was truly the best way to explore and learn about D.C. - especially on a rainy day! read more

We have been waiting for an hour now for our Hop-On Hop-Off bus to come by. Still waiting. The staff has been friendly but they keep telling us it will only be 15 more minutes when I call the office and yet there is still no bus. We could have caught the city bus over 30 minutes ago rather than standing in the cold if they had just been up front with us. While we've stood here waiting we've lost the opportunity to go to the museums since they close in 45 minutes. We watched multiple tour buses go by for other companies while we waited for ours. If you have a lot to see in DC and don't want to spend a lot of time waiting for the bus, pick a different company. The other companies seem to have more buses in circulation. read more

Terrible- we had prepaid tickets 2 weeks ahead for a specific day, were informed the day before they would not be operating the service we paid for and then tried to get a refund but no one has returned calls or emails, so basically they stole our money and did not give the service we paid for. Definitely would recommend against using this company read more

We booked this trip in today, via Groupon, for what I think was a very good rate. Our tour guide, Henry, was very personable and informative. He even went above and beyond to bring one of the kids to the top deck, in the cold, for a couple of stops. It was freezing! The only drawback I had was waiting on the next business, which was a little late; however, if traffic was an issue, it wasn't their fault. The 2nd bus was nice and the top level was enclosed...which made for happy kids. I suggest the hop on hop off for any visitor. read more

I took the hop-on hop-off tour in DC yesterday , what an unforgettable experience for my family an I , this tour showed us what I think it is the complete DC tour attractions ever . read more

Was only able to 'hop' on twice. They say buses come every 30-40 minutes. That's a lie it's 1 - 1.5 hour wait. We were only able to make half the route and had to take a taxi back after two of their buses came and we were in the designated area and they just went right past us never stopping. Very frustrating and not worth the price. read more

On Friday, November 20 my mom, two sons and I boarded the hop-on/hop-off bus at L'Enfant Plaza. All was fine, and we disembarked at stop #9 for lunch. When we boarded again after lunch, we proceeded to the top of the bus to continue the tour. Unfortunately the bus driver and guide did not check to make sure we were seated. When the bus began to move, my mom was thrown back onto her bottom and incurred some injuries (bruises) on her arms and legs. The guide barely came up to see if she was ok, and didn't even apologize. He seemed unconcerned that a 72 year old woman just fell on the bus. We continued the tour, and got off at the White House. When it was time to get back on at this stop, it took a good 50 minutes before a bus came to pick us up. My mom was sore from the fall and needed to sit, but had to stand and wait. When I attempted to email the company with regards to my concern, the email address was not vaild. I ended up emailing the sales email address. I hope DC Trails will look into their procedures for ensuring a safe and healthy environment for their passengers. This could happen to anyone; child, mother holding a baby, or elderly person. read more

WORST WORST WORST hop on and hop off tour! And Even WORST WORST WORST WORST is their customer service. We booked the tour couple weeks in advance of our upcoming dc trip. When booking, I asked the person where we can start our 48 hours hop-on-hop-off tour as we are going to stay in Arlington,VA and we were told the closest stop will be Arlington National Cemetery and the bus frequency is every 20 min. Today, was our first day in DC and we were excited to start our trip with our 21 month old toddler. We reached Arlington cemetery but were having trouble finding the pickup as we were coming from opposite direction. we called the customer service to get the direction but were given the wrong street. Somehow we found the location where they do pickup and drop off. We reached there about 10:30 and waited about 30 min and didn't see any dc trail buses come in. In those 30 min we saw 3 BigBus Tour buses and other tour buses too. We called customer service to check in again and were kept on hold for over 10 min to check where the delay was and were told that buses come every 30-40 min and not 20 min (we were told 20 min when booking) and one should be there in about another 20 min. We waited and nothing showed up. We called again and again after been put on hold, were told that some bus broke somewhere and we should have something soon in about another 20 min. Nothing yet! Another call and were told to wait another 40 min! In Heat with a 21 month old toddler, at 12 o'clock in afternoon we paid to BigBus and got their tour tickets when the 4th BigBus tour bus showed up. After such a terrible start to our vacation, we called dc trail again to demand our refund. They told us they don't believe what we are saying is true even though we offered that we would stop by their office and can show them the call logs and they can cross check with their staff answers calls in the morning, but they said NO to refund and told we should have waited longer until the bus shows up! I don't think it is fair that after waiting patiently for over 1.5 hours in heat with a toddler, they expected us to wait further and believe them that something will eventually show up when all they did was lie to us every time we have called them. There are much better hop on hop off tours available in dc. I would urge people to avoid these cheaters who just want to run their business by taking people's money for free and not giving any service in return! read more

I grew up in the D.C. area so have seen all the sights many times. I live in Florida now and took the kids on a trip and decides to take the hop on hop off.. i have to say it was the best trip threw the city ive ever had!! I learned so much about the monuments from the amazing tour guides and seen things i had never seen before. Amazing tour of a amazing city. And wow beautiful and clean buses with kind knowledgeable driver/guides. . Ive recommended to many people that have traveled since and all had same reaction. .. thanks D.C. trails read more

Directions for where twilight tour suck! I walked around for 20 trying to find the pick up point. The employee in The station told me to go out the door and down the stairs and around the back which ended me in the garage. Then I called the office and they insisted there was only one food court, yet, there are two, so trying to find where to pick up was a challenge. When I finally found the pick up place the employee who gave me directions insisted he said to go up the stairs instead of down. And then he laughed about it. That is beyond unacceptable Extremely disappointed that the customer service is so bad read more

AVOID! I counted 12 big buses while I waited 40 min for 1 DC Tours bus. Slow slow slow

I highly recommend you take another Hop-On Hop-Off tour... this one is unreliable and not professional. They were late in picking up... I waited 55 minutes for a pick up. Their website clearly states 20-30 minute pickups. When I questioned the driver he said we normally run on 45 minutes to an hour for pickup. I called the office and they said the same thing. I went back on the website and verified it is marketed 20-30 minutes. None of the staff or the manager were apologetic for the lack of true service I received. Wasted my time waiting for a pickup when I could have been sightseeing. Don't waste your time in DC being frustrated with this company. Fine another company that offer much better service. Its worth the extra dollars. read more

If I could give a -star rating, I would. This business offered a Groupon. They're supposed to be circulating buses past the stops every 30 minutes. We called twice to find the buses, and were told "they'll be there in 10 minutes". The buses never showed. We ended up walking, missed seeing everything we wanted to see, and had to also walk back to our car. They clearly offered this Deal and didn't have enough buses to accommodate. Do yourself a favor and don't use this business. We continued to see other bus lines. Pick another vendor! read more

DC Trails is one of the best hop on and hop off tours I have been on. If you are ever in town make sure you use DC trails. You will not be disappointed!!!! Clean and with friendly staff members who are helpful. They will give you a city map and guide you towards all the best attractions in DC. read more

Great way to see the city. Just be careful as where they drop you off isn't where they pick up sometimes. Thankfully the drivers were nice and let us on. Tour guides provided some fun details and John was great (had same name as my son so they had fun with that). Actually all the employees were kind and wanted you to enjoy the tour. Want to do the night one now!! Would be nice to have an app or some way to track the bus to maximize your visit and not wait TOO long at each stop for the next bus. read more

Currently sight seeing the DC are through the purchase of a day pass with DC Trails. Purchased it through Groupon for $20 (fantastic) price. We began our journey and made our first stop at the White House. We toured the White House and waited for 45 minutes for the bus. NEVER CAME!!!! We ended up walking to the Lincoln Memorial and after calling the company they stated the last bus was leaving the memorial at 5:30pm. We were waiting and now 6:15 and the bus has yet to arrive. Called the company again and they said the last bus was at 6:00pm. Again, 6:15 and the bus is still not here. This is ridiculous that we have to be given the run around. I will not be doing thus again. Horrible SERVICE! read more

DeeDee was a great driver and guide. It was the exact tour I wanted and it was an awesome jam-packed day!Really well planned, well done. I would recommend the Grand All-Day tour to anyone visiting the Capital. It's a one day cram-it-all-in tour. And MANY extra thanks to DC Trails for picking me up special to meet-up with my tour!! It was a very nice touch. P.s. take the single-bus Grand tour and you will be taken car of so well! The hop-on-hop-off are unpredictable and can be full! Treat yourself to the 1:1 tour. You won't be sorry. read more

We booked the Mt. Vernon tour the day before we wanted to go. Big Al and the tour bus picked us up at the JW Marriott promptly the next morning and he made conversation while they picked up the others at 5 area hotels. He knew lots about the drive on the way to Alexandria and was very conversational. The return trip from Mt. Vernon was also on time and he accommodated us by dropping us off closer to Chinatown instead of our hotel. I'd definitely book with DC Trails again. read more

Beware of DC Trails! I visited DC with family on August 16 and busses were supposed to come every 30 minutes. We waited over an hour for the bus at The Wharf and it never came. Meanwhile, companies such as Big Bus and others had come by twice. After 45 mins we called and they promised a bus would come in 5-7 minutes. When it didnt show, we called and they said the same. We were forced to spend extra money by Ubering the rest of the day. Vouchers were purchased from Groupon and neither the company nor Groupon did anything to rectify the situation. DC trails didnt return calls or emails and Groupon refused to issue credit for the service. We spent $152 on four vouchers. read more

Wish I could give this is zero stars stay away from this tour buses are never on time very poor customer service save your money do another tour do not give them any of your business they failed to mention buses are being inspected and they do not run every 20 minutes you're lucky if it's every hour out of the 20 stops they only picked me up twice I walked most of the other places read more

Super convenient ! Sometimes you do have to wait a little long for the busses but this still saves you so much time that it's worth it! The tour guides on the buses are super friendly! Overall a great experience, if it's your first time in DC I would recommend it 100%. read more

The only thing good about your tour is Henry. We got off of one time then waited over 40 minutes to catch another bus while sitting with 30 others in a no shade area in 90 degrees with kids. Finally a bus...with NO seats!! Instead of speaking to us your representative hops on the bus and leaves us all sitting there. We've called an Uber and expect a refund from you promptly read more

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.!! THEY LEFT MY WIFE AND I STANDING IN FRONT OF OUR HOTEL FOR AN HOUR AND 45 MINUTES AND NEVER CAME. After calling and texting and emailing , with promises, of a ''pick up, soon,'' and a refund never came. The dispatcher couldn't spell cat on a bet, employees are rude and could not care less about you .You are just a number. Supervision will not return your calls. The slow roll indeed. Most important, never an apology. Attitude and courtesy of the worst. Do not use these guys ever! read more

BEWARE!! I bought tickets through Groupon. DCTrails customer service was terrible. We waited at a museum for over an hour for our first pick up. After my second phone call, the representative told me that it would be another 46 minutes before a bus arrived. When I asked for a refund since we were not able to even get on a bus, she simply said "I understand why you are asking but we don't do refunds." They ruined the day of sightseeing for my family. I spent almost $100 and never saw a DC Trail bus. BOOK WITH THE TROLLEY COMPANY. We saw at least 4 come by and pick up/drop off people. read more

The tour was fine until we tried to go to "Arlington National Cemetery." You have to catch a separate shuttle from the Lincoln Memorial. Unfortunately, after an hour wait with none showing up, we had to abandon the tour. We were told in would be 10-15mins after A phone call to the office after we waited 30 mins. After another 30 mins, no luck. Meanwhile, another company had shuttles every ten mins as we waited. Old town trolly. Try them if you plan on attending Arlig read more

DC Trails did a fantastic job! I purchased 48 hour passes for 2 adults and 2 children. The Twilight Tour was complementary with the 48 hour passes, and that tour alone was worth at least what I paid for all 4 tickets. Brittany was our guide on the Twilight Tour and she did a wonderful job. She had a great personality, made sure everyone in the group could see and hear her, despite the crowds. She knew a lot of details about the area and the history that made the tour very interesting. We did the hop on-hop off thing the next day, and all the drivers and guides we encountered were helpful, had great personalities and were very knowledgeable. We called the office once with a question and the staff was very helpful, the app was great too. We'll definitely use DC Trails again next time! read more

Don't waste your time or money. Waited an hour and 45 minutes for a bus. Was spoken to rudely by Customer Service Reps and employees. Was told by an employee that the App never works and you can not depend on it. 9 Trolley Tour buses and 5 Big Bus Tour buses went by us and not one of DC Trails. First was told there was traffic, then a bus broke down. How were the other companies able to get by traffic and why was there only one DC Trail bus running? Do not use! Other passengers were complaining about it on the bus, too. read more

This was a good tour to see the city sites. That being said, the buses were few and far between even for a summer day. Also, we used a Groupon that they had no way to redeem. We had to mark it as redeemed in front of them and show the drivers as we got off and on. The drivers seemed to be okay on their knowledge. Next time I'll take one of the other tours when more family comes to town. Just glad we didn't pay full price. Wish I had read the Yelp reviews first! read more
