Been coming to Salem for the past four years (off/on) and been passing this donut spot every single time but never stopping. Tonight we had a craving for donuts so we decided to stop by. Crap! We should have been coming here from day 1! The donuts are way better than the franchise chain that should go un-named. There are two (both have consonants for their initials) and yet Daynight Donuts beats them both. Serious. I had the long john and while I was fully expecting it to have a crème filling, it was still very good and was gone in about a minute. Other people in our party had donut holes and also a chocolate glazed. Both people finished their donuts in minutes as well. We were served by a very young man that was polite and personable. Kinda worried about him if he gotta work the overnight shift and what people may come in during the evening hours. Hope there is others working in the back to watch out for him. Well, normally I give a place a couple tries before I write it off, but in this case, it will be the first and last time I go to this location. I am in town for work again and was on my way back to the hotel when I saw this donut shop sign that said 24 hours. I thought to myself this is a perfect location because it's close to the hotel that our agency always books for us. I usually don't get donuts in the morning so this would be a perfect place to stop every time I'm in town. When I walked in, I got a very Dunkin vibe (I'm originally from the East Coast and no Dunkin is not my favorite) so I took a minute to look at all the options. At Dunkin, my favorite donut is the vanilla cream which I saw on the shelf here but I don't see it too often at a lot of other places. So again, I was intrigued. I asked the lady if the dough was made in house daily or if it came in frozen. I asked because I feel like there is a difference in the quality and the fluffiness. Over the years a lot of places have switched their method and if these were made in house from start to finish, I was going to try several different donuts. The lady seemed almost offended by my question, but didn't really answer it. Then she asked me if I was from the area. When I told her that I was not from the area, she said something along 'oh, that's why. My regular customers don't ask me that.' it was a little difficult to understand her because she got quieter and has a slight accent, but I think she said that they do make the dough in house. She did say that a lot of places do have frozen dough, but they bake theirs there. I wasn't sure if that meant they get the frozen dough and it's fried there or they make it in the store from start to finish. Either way, I decided to just go with a plain glazed and a vanilla cream. ** The worst part is, based on the posted menu, my total should've been $5.50 for two donuts and a carton of milk, but she told me the total was $6.50. I was already put off by the whole interaction so I paid and left. ** I stand corrected, I thought the menu said $2 for a carton of milk and $3 for a bottle which is why I opted for the carton. Mike let me know that the milk is $3, I apologize for misreading the menu. So they did charge me the correct amount. ** Got back to the hotel and tried both, but neither one of them was fluffy and they both tasted stale. So I threw away about half of each donut and will not return. I want to clarify, it's possible that she was not trying to be rude and maybe that's is her personality but either way, it made me feel unwelcome. These are the best donuts i've had. Was in town visiting family and i loved everything. From the variety bag of donut holes to the biscuits and gravy. The service could be better, seems like the woman at the counter is miserable and her attitude shows it lol. The establishment is small, but clean and they make great donuts. read more

Recommend by many, I made it a mission to stop by Daynight at least once, and that one trip was not enough! The selection is out of this world. Donuts of all kind, filled with so many different creams and fillings. My husband and I reluctantly settled on a half dozen, although my heart really wanted a full. Our pickings: Strawberry Frosted - A regular ring donut with sweet strawberry frosting and sprinkles. I'm sure when I ate this donut it was barely out of the oven. It was so fluffy and delicious. A+ Blueberry Crumb - A fluffy Berliner filled with blueberry jelly and topped with glaze and a cinnamon sugar topping. First thing I noticed about this guy was how heavy he was! They were generous with the jelly. Absolutely wonderful! Maple Bar - Just like any other maple bar I've had, to be honest, but still great! Maple Frosted Bavarian - Berliner with a generous amount of Bavarian cream, not as much as the jelly one though. Sooo good. ...and I completely forgot what the last two were. However I can tell you that the entire half dozen was gone between my husband and I not more than 3 hours later, so that tells you how much we enjoyed them! 10/10 would return! read more

Went in this morning to get donuts however I won't go back. The service was crap. The lady helping me was rude as hell.

Oh DayNight.... Service tonight was fantastic! She was happy and had great recommendations. I think I chose poorly cause my heart shaped maple cream was well stuffed with a "plasticky" gelatinous filling that is not allowed to be called "cream filling"! Cinnamon twist was a great recommendation! Loved it and the chocolate French crullers was moist and flavorful. But I have to say it was super airy! Ice cream is from Umpqua which by most standards is one of the best! There are a ton of donuts to choose from! I wish I had time in the stomach to taste them all! Let me paint: hubby, former marine, says it's the best coffee he's ever tried. Said Starbucks and Dutch Brothers can't compete, not even close. Also, the best glazed donuts you will ever try. Personally, I enjoy the hot cocoa (you can ask for it to be a high temperature, and he hooked me up). I have chronic abdominal pain from a botched surgery in '01, and hot liquids - particularly viscose ones - Really help with the internal pain. It's like an inside hot water bottle hahaha. This is the only hot cocoa that I've found with that extra hot hot AND the best hot cocoa I've ever had. There are so many donuts to pick, I like the Dutch Crumb (or maybe Crumble, I don't remember, sorry!). The tiny donut holes are adorable and tasty, he files them with fillings too! The same guy is there every time we go, we love going at 2am. I highly recommend this place. We just moved here to Salem, and we're finding the place is full of awesome people. Every time I get a hankering for donuts, without fail I always end up at this specific DayNight Donut. The hours are remarkable for a late night craving, and I've never had a bad experience here. It's family friendly, easy to get in and out of quickly, and the service is always top notch no matter the hour. The ambiance when you walk in at 3am is as welcoming as a sugary oasis while coming in during the mid afternoon doesn't feel like it's a totally different place. My fellow night owls will understand that. Biggest perk they have above everyone else is they make a fresh batch of donuts twice a day so you're always biting into a soft donut instead of the stale competitors. Ever since we moved here from South Florida, I've looked for a donut shop like Dunkin Donuts. I know they're not out here and frankly, some of the reviews were scary! We decided to give Daynight Donuts a try. What a pleasant surprise! Not many places carry vanilla creme filled and I was thrilled that at 1pm, there were still donuts in the tray. The last behind the counter was friendly and really nice. We got a dozen and crossed our fingers. Fresh, soft - not stale at all!! I couldn't be happier. Phew! SO CLOSE to a 5 star! Let's break it down... We took a random cruise south and back one late night. Around 1 am I had a hankering for a GOOD donut but nothing good is usually open late - Yelp! to the rescue! Daylight Donuts? Hmmmm.... I guess so, it's open late. I just hoped they would have SOME kind of donut since it was late. We pulled into the lot and the Donut shop is hard to miss. Bright and well lit inside. When i walked in, I could see the display behind and I mean WOW!!! They have a CRAZY selection! Different and unique flavors, cake types, topping type, even different flavored donut holes!! Even better the taste was DELISH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not 5 star delish but DAMN GOOD I'd drive 45min out of my way again if it was late - Good. Where do they lose the one star? Service - or lack thereof. Went through drive through several times and I've been ignored for UP to 15 minutes today I went and ordered donuts she the drive through window lady gave me the wrong donuts and then when I asked her replace them with the ones I wanted she charged me for the incorrect donuts she served me with and said she couldn't accept them back because she had already handed them out the window. When I ask for a receipt she deleted all the items and falsified the receipt to show that i'd only paid one item and that I couldn't prove that she charged me for donuts that I didn't want. I grew up down the street from this donut shop way back in the 60's and 70's when at the time it was a Dunkin Donuts. I have been away from Salem over 40 years but on a recent visit to see my brother who lives there I went into Daynight and ordered a few donuts. First bite told me it was a Dunkin flour in that donut. Well, I mentioned to the gentleman at the counter that it tasted like a Dunkin Donut and to my surprise he said that it is the same as the Original Dunkin' Donuts (original- not the kind they are using in most franchise DD's now) It is refreshing to know that after all these years they still bake the donuts twice a day and are as good today as they were back over 50 years ago!! I wish I still lived down the street from this little donut shop, I would still be a regular customer just like I was when I was a kid!! Refreshing to have a place that takes you back in time and gives you a fond memory of your wonderful childhood!! My hats off to a business that stays true to itself after all these years. So I drive by this place quite often and I needed a dozen donuts so I figured I'd stop in and give them a try. There were four parties waiting ahead of me and I didn't mind the wait. I sat down since I have problems standing and I get weak often. About twenty mins later it was my turn. I said, "I'd like a dozen donuts. One of those dozens will be a bear claw" the person immediately interrupted me saying "that's extra" to which I replied, "I'm aware, I'll pay the extra for the donut". I wanted 12 total. As they were filling it up I asked how many I had left and when my order came out to over 18..00 I asked why? If the dozen was 12.99-14.99 there's no way the bear claw would have been that much to upgrade. I then noticed they gave me 12 donuts and the 13th, a bear claw, I paid full price for. Instead of including it in the 12, charging me an extra 1.50 they did it their way. It should have been the price of a bear claw minus the regular donut and that amount would have been the amount extra I paid for the 12 donuts. This wouldn't have been so bad had the people working there have actually been KIND. IMMEDIATELY one of them yelled at me saying "YOU SAY YOU PAY EXTRA!!!" and I kept calm and explained what had happened, at the end saying I will pay for it as is, just for future reference, when someone orders 12, you don't give them 13. Then yell at them. Before the amount things happened, I had already waited 20 minutes to order. There were three people ahead of me and it took forever. All the while, I patiently waited and watched as the woman and man rudely rushed people along to order. Not even taking it into account people may want a dozen donuts and not have every single donut they're wanting to buy planned out. (Due to inability or the variance of the way places make their donuts differently.) My turn came and the donuts were not traditional so I had a hard time trying to figure out which was which. When I had ordered 5 they continued to rush me to decide, seconds after ordering the last donut I had chosen-they told me to think about it while they skipped over me cuz they couldn't wait two seconds while I decided which one t include in my dozen. (I'm sorry I mean my 13 donuts) So I then had to wait while they took other orders, after having patiently waited for my turn to order -after spending over 18 minutes in there with only 5 other customers in total, both before and after me, they couldn't spare ten seconds while I decided on the next one. A few minutes later they rudely pushed me along to hurry up and finish my order. I went to pay and I told the guy there that I normally tip. Yuck!! I've bought day old donuts before from Walmart that tasted fresher than the donut that I was served. I saw a bunch of French Cruller and asked if they were fresh. The woman stated that they make all of the donuts fresh, twice a day. When I got home to eat it, it was hard and crunchy. I've NEVER had a Cruller be crunchy before. They're supposed to melt in your mouth. Not from this place..... I luckily discovered King Donuts. This place makes AMAZING donuts. The French Cruller DID melt in my mouth. Their donuts are SO good at King Donuts. I'm never going back to Daynight Donuts. I spoke to my kid about this place because it's by my kids school. Apparently it's quite popular with the kids that smoke things to hang out there. My kid made a comment about her friends being short changed from them. I thought that was interesting because the woman who rang me up didn't give me any change until later, when I asked for it. I've read other comments on here about others being short changed by them. I can't very n begin to describe my experience yesterday here. I give this review with a heavy heart. This is not something I take lightly in the light of racial issues right now. Yesterday around 4 pm, I stopped in to get donuts for my family. When I walked in, I was immediately met with hostility. No, hi, how is your day, nothing? I was asked very harshly, "what do you want how many donuts do you want. ?" This was the second day in a row that I have seen this Caucasian female working there. The day before, when I went there, she had given me an attitude and huffed when I gave my order. However, on Sunday, someone else was working, and when she came out, her attitude changed. On Monday, she was alone. I was overwhelmed by the rudeness and didn't know how to respond other than trying to figure out what I wanted. Instead of putting a few donuts a time in a bag, she shoved two maple bars, two apple fritters, two glazed donuts, and two old fashion donuts into a single-serve paper bag. Now when I say pushed, she smashed them with purpose on purpose. As she was so rude and pushy with me, two Caucasian gentlemen were standing behind me. She was so polite to them. "I'll be right with you. Hi, how are you today". I went out to my car after I paid and noticed just how crushed the pastries were. Given she put the maple bars at the bottom of the bag. So I decided to go back in and say something. Only to be met with more hostility. When I told her and showed her my entire order was crushed, she reached for a maple bar with the same gloves she was handling money with. I calmly told her I felt like she was rude to me for no reason. Only to be told that "you are just being too sensitive, " she said some other colorful derogatory things I will not repeat. When I asked to talk to her manager, she told me to "get the hell out she has the right to refuse service to anybody she wants. Long story short did she come out and say any racial slander no.Do I feel I was treated very differently than the white customers standing behind me? Yes. I was just ordering donuts for my kids who were waiting in the car. I wasn't taking forever I was polite. I'm always gracious and polite to people who are on the other side of the counter. That's where I've worked most my life. To not say something about this is letting her treat someone else the way she treated me. That's wrong. Her actions , tone, and words we're so obviously blatant and purposeful I can not be quiet about. So I called my husband crying. Shaking because even though she didn't say it...I felt my race came in to play here. So my husband reached out to the owner and we never heard back. This is sad because I've loved this place and only had amazing experiences here. Till Sunday and Monday afternoon. This person is hands down the rudest meanest person I've ever encountered working somewhere. Even a apology wound not make what she did right. To be treated differently because I'm not white is wrong. Where is equity, where is a fair treatment where is even being treated like a human, let alone a customer? She also never replaced my donuts. After seeing her hygiene touching money not changing her gloves or washing her hands and grabbing food. Why would I want to eat the smashed donuts anyway? The lady who waited on me was not friendly and her work shirt was absolutely filthy. I understand when your working you can get dirty but this was well beyond that. So excited when we found out about this place. We are from NorCal and are used to having tons of donut shops around us. Highly disappointed that this is the only one around us, but still 20 minutes away. Anyway, went in around 8:30pm on a Tuesday night. The lady at the counter was very sweet and helpful. Really cool to see the huge variety of donuts. I noticed right away that they're smaller than what are used to in Cali but that's fine. The flavor means more to us anyway. We ordered two dozen and tried to choose one of everything. The flavor was pretty decent. They were all fresh and not too sweet. I would've given them 4 stars, but I ordered a blended mocha and it was NASTY! I always try blended mochas wherever they're sold because I'm a huge fan of blended coffee, and this was one of the worst! It was all water and no flavor. read more

So this has got to be the saddest display of professionalism I've been subjected to .It's just before 6am on a Sunday and nothing sounds better the a fresh donut and coffee .To my surprise biscuits and gravy would be the beginning of the worst breakfast experience I've ever so for twenty one dollars a person can buy a dozen donuts that are without question 1-2-3 days old who knows they are stale as can be and honestly for the price you would think they would at least be meal size donut but they are not they are disrespectfully small and the biscuits and gravy was foul the carton was full of watery gravy and the biscuits are a joke honestly I tried to give them to my dog and she wouldn't even eat them thankfully they gave us back our money for the donuts and we couldn't believe our eyes when they put them back on the shelf for sale again after we touched them , gross is all I can say we will never go back to that place we really feel let down by our only neighborhood donut shop I'd rather eat out of a garbage can then go back there read more

I am a Deaf person who uses American Sign Language and text in English to communicate with a non signer. The person who worked at this shop was not accessible. I typed out my order in clear and perfect English, even creating a clear list for a half a dozen.
