    Dine downtown menu 1/2025
    Jackson T.

A year later and I'm here again for dine downtown week. We made reservations for Saturday night for dinner. We all opted for the dine downtown menu. We enjoyed the complimentary bread and butter. The place was busy when we seated as well, but service was still great. The place was nice and a lot of diners were enjoying dinner as well. We ordered drinks and they were brought out promptly. We also ordered truffle fries for the table to share (not on the DD menu). For DD 2026, I got the roasted squash soup, and got to try the fried rice kimchi arincini, but prefer the soup. We all opted for the eye of prime rib, which comes with a creamed kale flan, fingerling potatoes and butter sauce. It was great. For dessert, I got the chocolate banana tart, and got to try the extra virgin olive oil cake. I preferred the chocolate tart. This was an overall great DD experience and I will see if I went to go back next year (have to try new restaurants as well).

First time visiting Dawson's! I had a gift card from Downtown Sacramento Partnerships and was excited to visit somewhere new to me. I made a reservation through Open Table, and it was quick and easy to book a table for the following night. When we arrived, we were seated without a wait, but after about 15 minutes, I noticed we weren't receiving any service. I asked the host, and there seemed to be a miscommunication between our servers. Once it was resolved, the night flowed smoothly, and our new server was extremely apologetic. He asked us if we were celebrating anything special and offered a comped dessert on the house for our anniversary. Once service started, we had a great experience. We received bread refills and I loved the unique cuts of meat on their menu. I ordered the Grilled Elk Chops, which our server had good things to say as an avid hunter. It wasn't too gamey, and I really enjoyed the pan sauce it was served with. My partner ordered the burger, and he said it was decent, nothing spectacular. We both enjoyed the table serving of sprouts and would order them again. For dessert, we got the Peanut Butter Chocolate Molten Cake to share. Dawson's is known for their Carrot Cake, but we thought this was an amazingly decadent treat to satisfy our sweet tooth! Dawson's is located inside the Hyatt on the first floor. I was hoping that the vibe would be more intimate here, but there were some rowdy tables the night of our visit. Overall, good spot for a good cut of steak, but not my first choice if you're looking for a romantic evening.

My husband and I have made it a tradition to go to a new steakhouse every year for my birthday. So this year my husband made a reservation at Dawson's on Open Table. It's located inside the Hyatt Regency Hotel in downtown Sacramento. So we left or truck with the valet, and it was located right off the front entrance. The restaurant was dark and moody, and very romantic. Each table had a soft light in the middle and the pictures on the wall made it feel like an old classic restaurant. Side-note: There is no bathroom inside the restaurant so if you have to use the restroom, use the one outside of it in the hotel lobby. Now onto the food! Kyle was our server and he gave us excellent recommendations and he was a joy to talk to. First he recommended the deviled eggs for an appetizer and they were wonderful! My husband, who has never liked deviled eggs, was so in love with them that he was asking about the ingredients. The bread that came complementary was warm and delicious. For our steaks, my husband got the ribeye and I got the Wagyu. They were both cooked perfectly to our liking. Kyle recommended the garlic butter for the top and it was wonderful. Plus the grilled half garlic that comes with a steak that you can smash with your fork adds so much flavor to every bite! We got the mushrooms on the side and the brussels sprouts, as well as the whipped potatoes. Everything was a 5 out of ! And for dessert we got the carrot cake. Again recommended by Kyle and it was absolutely delicious! It was topped with these slivers of thin, candied carrot chips, that just took it over the top. And since it was my birthday it was complimentary! We have tried about six different steakhouses at this point and this is our new favorite. We will definitely be going back. My husband says he has been thinking about their food every night since we went this week!

Dinner 5 out of 5 Dessert 3 out of 5 Service 3.5 out of 5 We had an 8:30 reservation on a Saturday for a group of 6. The place was not busy, it wasn't even 1/2 full. The server was polite, but not very friendly. It felt like we were an obligation. It's hard to explain because he wasn't rude but he also did not make us feel welcome. We ordered scallops, caviar, and truffle fries for appetizers. All of it was excellent!! The sauce on the scallops was divine. Entrees: 4 filets that came with a roasted garlic and tomatoes- it added a perfect sweetness to each bite. Elk was cooked perfectly and came with this INCREDIBLE potatoe square. That potato should have been adored as one of the sides it was so damn good. NY strip We paid extra for garlic butters and truffle butters for each steak (didn't see any of that on the steaks but maybe it had melted) as well as chimichurri and bearnaise sauces. The bearnaise was awful - it was basically like milk with no flavor. Sides: mashed potatoes and creamed spinach, they were good. Throughout the meal we also ordered several cocktails. Before our entrees came we asked to see the dessert menu (we like to see what desserts they have so we know if we need to save room). The server responded with "let me bring out your food first". Again he wasn't rude, but it felt like we were being scolded, as we weren't demanding to see it right this second. Desserts: we ordered the carrot cake (3 out of 5), it was a little dry. Pumpkin cheesecake was creamy (4 out 5). Chocolate peanut butter molten cake (3 out of 5) - this cake was extinct as there was -0- molten going on. Flavor was ok but when it says molten, you expect it to be moist and it to be "molten". None of that was the case. Huckleberry sorbet (5 out of 5). Overall the food was excellent, drinks good, dessert was not exciting, and service was eh. We paid $900 total (includes a 20% tip).

Decided to partake in the Dine Downtown menu fur date night with my spouse. Free bread basket: 3/5 Be careful not to get too full on the free bread. good portion and tastes good with the soft butter. Top of bread is hard, I prefer more soft bread so it's not harsh on my gums Service: 5/5 Juan was so attentive and checked us often and cleared plates quickly so we felt like we were not forgotten. Even reminded us to get our parking tickets validated before we left. Prob one of the best servers we've had in a while. Ambiance: 5/5 lights were dim, has a romantic vibes, perfect setting for date and place to dress up Food: 3/5 Kimchi "Fried Rice" Arancini balls: 5/5 this was my favorite. Deep fried and crispy to perfection and not overly oily. The salted sauce was delish and reminded me of something they serve at sushi places Roasted Acorn Squash Soup: 5/5 served in a carved out squash. Touch of sweetness, cheese added a touch of salty, and chips added some crunch. It was very pleasing blend that would go great with bread or chips. Eye of Prime Rib: 3/5 steak was cooked to perfection with a dollop of green sauce that had a hint of radish spice in it. It came with soft fingerling potatoes and a side of green flan which tasted it was a blend of vegetables. There was a clear difference in the portion size of the steak. If the same plate is going to the same table, the size should be the same so we wouldn't be irked by the difference. I think the plate choice and presentation of the steak could have been better. I feel like the plate was too dark and the dish needed a pop of color. Not a bad dish, but not exceptional and I feel like it needed a touch more seasoning. Chocolate Banana Tart: 3/5 the flavors were great and I love the presentation and crispy banana chip. However, the chocolate used to cup in filling was too hard. It was awkward to break apart with my fork and felt like too much pressure would cause a crumb to fly across the table. I would have loved it to be a soft brownie or soft cake to make it easier to eat Olive oil cake: 4/5 moist and the flavor was light. I also had some sort of a floral sent. Enjoyed this over the banana tart since it was easier to eat The service was stellar but the food was just good, not exceptional. I may give other items a try next time there is a dine downtown but I'm not completely sold to pay full price.

Dine downtown this year 2025 was amazing. . I really liked the duck confit pot pie. The crust was flaky and buttery and light which I love. The flavor of the duck was good to. We really love the sauce with the pot pie. . Main entree was the braised short rib with beef, which I found a bit dry so I replaced it with the market fish. My friends beef short rib was better than mines. . Market fish for dine downtown was monk fish. It was so good my friend kept on attacking my plate. I say that I always have good taste and she always steal my food, she lucky I love her or else no more bites next time. . Mont blanc for dessert was amazing. I love sweet potatoe and chest nut everything so it was amazing to me. Definitely quality. . Service was on top part. Great and quick on requests. Also the vibe here is cozy and comfortable seating. Hope this review helps and thanks for reading. Have a yelptastic day.

Located inside the Hyatt. We opted for valet parking on New Year's Eve. We had reservations for 5pm but it wasn't busy and just opened. Beautiful restaurant. Great space between tables so you don't feel crowded. The waiters and their assistants are on it. They filled our drinks. Made sure our food came out quickly and efficiently. Everything was hot and well seasoned. I really wasn't a fan of the short rib. It was over cooked for my taste. My husband's rib eye was perfect. I loved his and wished I'd also gotten the rib eye. I was offered another dish but I knew my husband would eat my leftovers. So I opted to not get anything different but I appreciate that they did offer something different. A wonderful experience for New Year's Eve. We will be back for more special occasions

5 years later, the bar at this restaurant is still the bomb! Mason is one of the best bartenders I've encounter; he's very knowledgeable on craft cocktails & mixologies. The beef carpaccio was my absolute fav! So good I had it the next day.

    Ball Drop dessert

Our server was great...this review is strictly about the quality and cost of the food on New Years Eve. $200 per person so we expected an outstanding meal. Unfortunately they just served a crap ton of alcohol with the pre fixe menu. It was a five course meal.... With wine or champagne served with every course. 1. Cold scallops - sent back and reserved cold again. 2. Pork belly...cold, tough, fatty. Sent back and reserved warm but not hot 3. Duck...saltier than an anchovy. Sent back and didn't want it reserved. You can't remove salt. 4. Filet mignon ...outstanding. Cooked properly and so tender. Stick with what you know chef! 5. Dessert...Ball Drop! This course I found amusing. See picture and you'll understand why. All in all...too much food and too much alcohol. Would have rather had less of everything and better quality. Food should be served hot. I got to thinking maybe they were just trying to get us drunk so we wouldn't notice the food? Anyway, with having to send things back three times the manager really should've done something with our bill to compensate for all the issues. A little bit off a $400 bill would've been the right thing for him to do... but nope. This is my first New Years regret! Oh well...

We'd been looking forward to trying this place all week to celebrate my 48th birthday. First impressions were great--the ambiance was warm and inviting, and the staff made us feel welcome right away. Our server was fantastic: friendly, attentive, and quick. We brought our own bottle of wine, which they opened promptly, and the specials were explained in detail. I'd been craving a good steak, which I only eat a few times a year, so I was excited. I ordered the $100 dry-aged steak, my wife had the chef's special (swordfish), my son got a ribeye, and my friend ordered a different steak. We also got the mac and cheese and asparagus as sides. Unfortunately, the food didn't live up to the experience we were hoping for. It took about 45 minutes to arrive, even though the restaurant was only about 30% full. My steak came out overcooked--closer to well-done than the medium I ordered--and it was dry and lacked flavor. It definitely didn't have that "melt-in-your-mouth" quality you expect from a premium cut at that price. My son even said, "Dad, you cook steak better than this." My wife's fish was dry and overcooked as well, and my friend wasn't thrilled with his steak either. On the positive side, the mac and cheese was decent, though I felt it could've used a thicker, creamier cheese sauce. The asparagus, however, was the highlight--perfectly cooked with just the right crunch. Props to the chef on that; clearly, he knows how to make veggies shine. That said, I'm sure the chef might disagree with my take on the rest of the meal, and I hope he's open to feedback instead of just assuming I don't know what I'm talking about. My wife jokingly said before we went, "Let's just get tacos instead," and honestly, I wish we had--street tacos would've been more satisfying. Even though we were disappointed with the food, we still had a good time because of the occasion. I tipped our server 20% because he did an excellent job--none of this was on him. But after spending over $400, I left still craving a great steak. Sadly, we won't be returning.

I was in town for my daughters bridal shower and we had such a long day shopping at the local mall and just running around. I said let's just crab a ride back to the hotel and try the steakhouse there. I'm so absolutely happy with this hotel that I wanted to have a killer piece of meat. Dawsons did not disappoint. Kiley and I both got the Brandt filet. She got the red wine sauce and got the usual béarnaise. Our wonderful waiter suggested we split this house salad and that was delicious too. I decided to get a glass of wine and decided on the Matanzas Creek Sauvignon Blanc. Nowadays you get to choose from 3 sizes 3ounce, 5 ounce, or 8 ounce. I found this very curious since I don't drink very much. I really liked this wine and made sure I would remember it since I'm kinda picky when it comes to my alcohol. I'm a serious lightweight. This wine was the perfect balance for my meal. I know everyone thinks you need a red with meat but I don't agree with those outdated rules! I was a bit expensive but worth it. The service was impeccable. The only negative was a screaming baby at a nearby table. I literally don't understand couples that bring babies to these types of places. To be fair the people were trying so hard to keep the baby quiet.

The place is very cute inside and out, there is a ton of seating and the seating outside is covered and shaded. We sat outside after getting there with no reservation, but many tables had the "reserved" sign. We were sat and served very quickly, and our waitress was very helpful and nice. The menu is seasonal/subject to changes based on local vendors and what's available in season. I ordered the Mediterranean salad and added chicken on the side. The salad was delicious and so filling, and the chicken was flavorful and cooked just right (not dry). I loved my meal and will definitely come back to try more of the delicious options they have.

Although outside seating is available, it was a cold and rainy night so everyone was inside. I tried the jackfruit crab cakes. The flavor and texture was good but was way too salty. Dipping it in the sauce helped a little bit but not enough for us to be able to finish it all. Also had the REV burger. It was okay but nothing stood out. Service was good.

Wednesday's you get $10 off bottles I was greeted and well taken care of by Hannah. I sampled two reds and settled on the chilled cab for the evening. Their kitchen is not open during the week so keep that in mind. I am excited to come back and try the bites. The chef came from the Kitchen, so you know it should be good! I greatly appreciate the thought and intention behind sourcing the wines. Organic/regenerative vineyards, small family businesses, and supports women and minority owned too. Excited to continue to support this little hidden gem that should not be so hidden!

They also sell wine by the bottle and I love the fact that they feature independent wine producers. On the weekends they have food although I didn't try anything on the menu this go around. Because I was driving, I got a half pour of their local red using carbonic fermentation. Chatting with the server, I realized that this was just what I needed: a calming respite from walking around while savoring a delicious glass of red. They have a wine membership with two options at $60 for two bottles or $150 for three bottles a month. Lovely concept and space, will be back for sure!

This hidden gem offers an experience that's unlike anything else in the city. The setup is simple but charming: you literally walk up to a window and order your wine. I believe it's one ring for white, two for red, and three or four for sparkling--don't quote me on that, but it adds a playful, old-world vibe that makes the whole experience memorable. The Wine Window is affordable, laid-back, and surprisingly quaint. It's the kind of place where the ambiance, the people, and the energy make it feel more like an experience within an experience--not just a drink stop. I had the chance to chat with John, the owner, who shared a bit of the backstory. He previously owned a full wine room nearby, but when the pandemic hit, he had to pivot. Instead of calling it quits, he leaned into a smaller, more intimate concept inspired by wine windows in Europe. Honestly, I think the scale makes it even better. The outdoor patio is perfect for relaxing with a glass of wine while people-watching on L Street, and yes, there's even a restroom available (a rare but very appreciated amenity for this type of setup). If you find yourself downtown, do yourself a favor--swing by The Wine Window, have a chat with John, and enjoy a unique Sacramento experience.

If you ever need to do a business dinner meeting this is a perfect spot. They have a private dining room with a widescreen TV to run video presentation or slideshow; and doors for complete privacy Our server/bartender was so awesome. So accommodating. We had the perfect amount of food and variety. They have a full bar, with variety of wine and alcohol. Our party ordered champagne, wine and a few cocktails. To start, we had the beet salad, crispy pork belly, Brussels sprouts, and flat iron steak. For dinner we all shared the steak salad, shrimp scampi bucatini, baked ziti, Mac and Cheese, and roasted chicken Our compliments to the chef...Everything had so much flavor and there was no disappointing anyone in our party. We ended with a little cheesecake, and cookie bar. We will definitely return in the not so distant future.

My mother-in-law went to find a staff person and they pointed us to a table with a reserved sign. It took awhile before our table was acknowledged, but we did eventually receive menus and have our drink orders taken. This certainly isn't a place to eat when you're in a hurry. Again, there was a lag between our drinks being ordered and coming out to the table. The cocktails themselves were very enjoyable and well crafted. The drinks and some appetizers held us over until dinner came out. Overall, the food turned out to be worth the wait! That was a pleasant surprise after the service started out so roughly. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals, and that was enough to bring this dinner up from a 3 to a 4 star experience! I really hope they're able to hire in more staff because they serve some great food and beverages.

My favorite thing was probably the lamb. It has a Thanksgiving flavor to it because of the lingonberry demi glace. This also had beets, which I am not a fan of, but it was delicious in there. Hubs bomboloni was really delicious as well... having just gotten back from Italy last summer, this brought back memories and flavors from Italy! Will be back sooner than later.

So we do have high standards (which is to be expected for a 3 course, $400 dinner for two). The best dishes were the Wagu (very hard to mess that up), and the Bombolini dessert. Still those dishes were 4/5 stars at best. And putting a flavorless stale cracker on the Wagu plate, well, those things just have no business being there. We also got the Branzino, which was extremely bland, on top of some seemingly frozen vegetables and pees. We ate about 1/3rd of that. The Pulpo (octopus) had a beautiful presentation, but only ate half of it, as it tasted just a bit fishy. Likely needed to be marinated for longer, better quality etc. The service was 5 stars aside from the entrees taking a bit too long to arrive, and the place itself is nice. But the food, very underwhelming. Wouldn't go back because nothing was AMAZING, and for the price, you deserve to expect at least something to wow you. Unfortunately presentation can only get you so far, quality of ingredients and actual flavor is what really matters.

Only to find out my past two allocations had been picked up by my ex girlfriend without them ever verifying her as the paying member/card holder. I explained this to the staff and tried to understand the process to verify who paid for it before giving them the wine, she said there isn't one. I requested to contact a manager to resolve the issue "Do you really want to do that on their personal time?". All I needed was to try and resolve the issue or find who could, Cynthia the staff was not only beyond rude, and unhelpful - but she had the wherewithal to then say "well let me verify you actually bought this wine" as if I was lying and she didn't already have my name for the allocation and confirmed pre-payment. Lastly, I asked to cancel my wine club and she could not do that only the wine club manager could. I asked multiple times if we could contact them or do it in store, and she refused. Unprofessional, lack of quality customer service for wine club members, and an attitude you would not want at front of house representing your business.
