The steak had an incredible crust, was tender and full of flavor, and the mac & cheese was absolutely -- creamy with the perfect crispy topping. The sides were excellent too. Huge shoutout to the chef and the entire staff! You can tell a lot of care goes into both the food and the service. Food was decent (I had the burger which was actually really good), but service was severely lacking. Went there on Saturday lunch, party of six, reserved the table in advance. The restaurant was probably at about 25% capacity, two waiters and a bartender on duty. Had to chase someone to seat our group after we were ignored at the host table for a longer than reasonable time. Once we were finally seated, menus didn't arrive for 15 minutes, drinks took a long time to come out (the ice had mostly melted in the soda I ordered so it was obviously sitting waiting for the waiter to get it). I want to say that the wait staff individually were mostly pretty good, but management had just understaffed the restaurant for the type of service they are asking their staff to provide. When our meals were delivered, all but one came out and we assumed the waiter would immediately return with the last meal (which we could see sitting on the pass). After again waiting a reasonable amount of time, I went to chase up the waiter, and just then he also saw a random meal sitting by itself in the pass, and realized we were missing one, and brought it out, but the delay was noticed by all at the table. Advice to management is if you're going to advertise yourself as a higher end steakhouse, then you need to staff it properly to justify the price. When you organize group events for your friends, it's always a little stressful, coordinating start times making sure everyone's happy with the choice of restaurant, making sure the restaurant has dishes that fit each individual's food preferences, so when I booked this restaurant for my best friend's 50th birthday dinner with six other of my best friends I thought this was a safe bet. Let me start by saying the service was impeccable, Christian, our waiter was amazing, Indigo, our busser was on point with waters, etc. but no amount of service can offset oversalted, overcooked steaks. Most of the people at this dinner are meat eaters, several are ex-food service (front of house and back) and one or two are that special type of autistic middle-aged white guy that spends hours smoking meats to perfection. Every steak was charred on the outside. My medium rare waygu was blackened. Internal temperature and cook was on point but every piece of meat was over salted to the point that one of the most prolific meat eaters sent his back halfway through and didn't even want a replacement because it was so bad. He even cut me a piece so I could try it and it tasted more like a salt lick than a new York strip. I can't understand what happened, but I can't abide how bad a steakhouse with a butcher shop in the steakhouse could do this to meat. We were comped pork belly appetizers prior to the steaks coming out which was incredibly nice, and we were comped a round of champagne after the debacle with the food. That all having been said this was one of the worst steak dining experiences I've ever had. The ambiance was lovely, the "new fashioned" with brown butter bourbon was spectacular, the garlic mash was tasty, and we had a good time...but man, the meat was a miss of epic proportions. read more

Fluffy with great flavor. Excellent syrup to match pancakes and the whipped cream and butter were great adds. The service was nice and attentive, apologized for the food being a tiny bit slow (but I didn't mind, I had a book with me). The food was overpriced ($15 for a single crab cake) and very salty, and the small plate w/ the rainbow chard needed more actual chard and less bacon. But it was nice enough and if I had been craving something more salty, it would've been great. I'm not sure if I'll go back. If I do, it'd be more for drinks w/ a friend when I'm not thinking about budget, and less for dinner (and I'll ask for more water and order one less small plate (I ordered 3)). We had a lovely lunch at Echo & Rig recently. I ordered the Drunken Goat, while my husband sampled the Pure Black Bavette and my son had their Creekstone Prime New York Strip. We sat on the outdoor patio as we had our small dog with us and it was a bit warm but most of the shaded options were taken. The service was solid. Our waiter Justin took our order but unfortunately after a while was advised by the kitchen that they were out of the Red Wine-Marinated Goat Cheese for my meal. He apologized and brought me a menu to choose something else but I was worried that my boys would have to continue to wait for their meals if I ordered anything too large so I asked for their Pork Belly Burnt Ends appetizer. I also asked him if they could bring out the plates for the gentleman when they were ready and not wait for me as it was getting pretty warm and we were quite hungry. He made sure that happened and my boys got their meals soon after. He also made my app on the house which was very sweet. He is excellent at his job. The meat was all cooked to perfection and the Charred Onion sauce was delicious! When my appetizer came out it was small but flavorful and my son and husband really enjoyed their meals. Thoughts from first visit: I stopped by in the afternoon for a drink and snack while I read. The place is not busy at the time of my visit which is nice. For snack I got: Oysters- the oysters are fresh however there are little pieces of shells everywhere. It comes with two sauces I love the red wine vinegar. Just be careful of shells when eating it~ Samosa Cigar- such fun shape in samosa. It is fried perfectly. The inside is not as flavorful as a traditional samosa but it is still very delicious. Along with the sauce is chefs kiss! For drinks I got: Pig & The Lady- it's is tropical and delicious! Tart from the passion fruit. This drink is so good! A unique creation the bartender whipped up, it's like a cosmo but with tequila. When I was ordering a second sip, they ran out of gin for that drink. So the bartender said I'll whip something up. Very cool. Service is nice and helpful. The place is connected to the Sawyer hotel so you would go across the hotel lobby to use the restroom. A nice little walk cuz the hotel is beautiful too~ Considering this is a fancy place, the food and drinks are priced as expected. What a tremendous experience. Every aspect of it from start to finish was exactly what I'd call an elevated dining experience. We came here for our anniversary and received excellent service. We were served by Isa, who had tremendous customer service, excellent knowledge of the menu, and made our evening feel very special. On top of that the food was phenomenal. We went to Echo and Rig for my birthday as it serves halal steaks (Creekstone). We made a reservation which allowed us to get in quick. The ambiance was very nice and it felt like everyone was there celebrating their birthdays. The server we had was amazing and even the manager came out to wish me a Happy Birthday! They were very attentive to our dietary restrictions. I would make sure to let them know you only eat halal as they do use beef tallow on their steak and potato chips which is not halal. With that onto the food: Bread/ butter: it was absolutely delicious. One of the best breads I've been served as it was warm and the butter room temperature. I would go back just for the bread. Burrata and focaccia with burnt orange sauce: this one was good. The orange sauce was a little too strong for me but the focaccia bread was good. I enjoyed it but probably not re-order Ribeye steak: this was cooked perfect medium. I had no issues with this one. Will get it again. Mashed potatoes: sooo good. Service felt seamless. The portobello fries were fresh, crispy, and flavorful with a perfect dipping sauce, definitely a highlight. I ordered the zabuton steak. It was cooked and salted perfectly, but I probably wouldn't order this cut again. The flavor was very beef-forward , almost like burger meat in steak form. Not bad, just not my preference. Steaks come with house-made kettle chips and one Rockefeller mushroom. All other sides are à la carte. The chips, while house-made, are still just chips. The mushroom unfortunately didn't hit .. it was very dry and shriveled. The berry "shortcake" also missed the mark for me. The hibiscus was extremely chewy, and the shortcake itself was savory with a firm, almost hard biscuit texture, not what I expect when ordering shortcake. The ice cream was good, but overall the dessert was just okay. Ambiance is medium upscale with a romantic edge with a good mix of after-work diners and date nights. Located in the DOCO plaza and connected to the Kimpton Sawyer Hotel is Echo & Rig. Been wanting to try this place for a while and since it's pretty pricey, wanted to wait for a special occasion to come. (They validate parking for 2 hours.) We made reservations online and arrived a little early. Didn't realize there was a Kings game the same day and the bar was busy, however the restaurant itself was okay and had plenty of seating available for dining in. The Ambiance: The front entrance doors were opened and stayed open because it was physically smoky (most likely from the kitchen in the back) and had a bbq like smell. Wasn't a fan of the smoke or smell but it is what it is. I feel bad for the employees if it's like that everyday. The service: We were seated in about 10 minutes. The hostesses were friendly. Our server was Jorge, he was nice. One of the Food runner's Jahee, was great (sorry if name was misspelled). I appreciate that the staff were great about refilling our water. But what it really needed was more crunch. A little more texture would have taken this from good to amazing. The bone marrow was barely there, both in flavor and portion, and the generous heap of onions on top made it seem like they were trying to hide that fact. The carne asada itself was fine at best, underseasoned and forgettable. The bread it came with was serviceable, but I actually ended up using the house bread instead (which says a lot). Definitely the weak link of the night and an easy pass next time Zabuton (4.5/5): Tender, rich, and packed with deep beef flavor, this zabuton cut delivered. Dined here several times when I used to live in the area. When we visit we attempt to go back as it is convenient to the hotel. Variety of standard selections. Portabelo fries were amazing. Soups are good. The bone marrow asada needs some work. We go the tomahawk with broccoli, and mac/cheese and the portions are large which I completely forgot... Tried some of their specialty cocktails which are on the sweeter side. Service was good frequent checks and refills. I do recommend getting a cut with sides from the beginning as portions can be large. Then if still hungry add in the small plates and other. The Mrs. wanted to have a nice steak dinner date before seeing a movie at the DOCO. Upon walking in, did notice some of the booths have some massive tears and patched up with duct tape. Seemed excessive and shows lack of cohesion with the front of house. We ordered some cocktails, a gin city and a dress to empress. My wife liked her cocktail ok but quickly switched to wine. My gin city was not well balanced. It sat with 2 sips taken almost the entire service and no one asked me about it. We started with thick cut bacon, roasted broccolini, shrimp cocktail, fried spinach salad (I know, but someone recommended it), a bavette steak, and a ribeye cap steak. What I liked: cook of the steaks were on point. The thick cut bacon was solid. What was fine: The broccolini had a decent smoky quality to it. What needed help: The shrimp cocktail came with 3 shrimp for $18. Kind of a weird number for an item often shared between 2 people and certainly not a good value at $6 per shrimp. I don't like that they include zero weights for the steaks. Most great steakhouses will do this. What I hated: The sides that come with the steak are poorly executed and unnecessary. The potato chips were burnt and completely unseasoned. The stuffed mushrooms were dry and tasted of almost nothing (very underseasoned). So much prep and cost to have these sides just drag down the overall value/experience. They just became a nuisance that I had to eat around because there was no way I was gonna eat it all. The fried spinach salad was a greasy over-dressed mess. Would have never ordered this without a recommendation, but this thing isn't even a salad nor is it executed well. I see that this place wants to be upscale, but it's not. The front of house hasn't improved since they opened (2019??). The cocktails aren't great but they are just as expensive as anywhere else. The sides for the steak are a crime. Just leave them off! This still feels like a place that can't quite figure it out. Granted, Sac is kind of a terrible steak town so that has worked in favor of weaker steak experiences à la Echo and Rig, but I doubly this place has what it takes to truly last. This was our 2nd time attempting to eat at Echo & Rig, first time the wait was too long but the 2nd time I made a reservation and got in! So on to the visit, we had a reservation at 6:30 and was sat at 6:30 which was great! The food, we loved the bread and the Caesar salad. The oyster were smaller the expected but the mignonette was delicious. I asked the waitress which steak she would suggest and she suggested filet tenderloin or the Spencer, I went with the Spencer it was cooked well but under seasoned. The chimichurri added a lot of flavor, the roasted garlic mash was good but also under salted. My husband got the swordfish and he enjoyed it. The restaurant is beautiful and the wait staff was really good. The manager even came over to welcome us since it was our first visit. I would go back again and try a different steak. read more

My significant other and I made a reservation for 8:45pm on a Saturday night and we only waited for a few minutes to be seated! The interior was sleek and modern imo and it gave good vibes. i was seated facing towards the kitchen and i like the open kitchen concept, it's kind of fun to peek over once in a while to look! For appetizers we got the: - 1/2 Oysters: i honestly don't remember what the name of the oysters were, they were on the smaller side but veryyyyy fresh and veryyy goooood!! i also liked the small attention to detail they had because the lemon also had a covering so the seeds wouldn't fall out! - Burnt Pork Belly Ends: i thought the pork belly itself was good but the sauce was a bit too sweet for my taste so it wasn't my favorite - Mac and Cheese: We got this complimentary from our waiter which was soo sweet because we were debating on this and the pork belly ends and he said it complimented each other and he was right! it was sooo good and sooo cheesy and creamy and the breadcrumbs on the top helped give it a lil bit of texture! chefs kiss hehe I got the: - Ribeye Steak Sandwhich: first of all, the chips in the side were so addicting lol you can tell they were freshly made and i just loved the crunch. The sandwhich itself was also delicious, the steak was cooked well and i had some fatty parts (which are my fav) and the aoili complimented it very well. I would probably get it again LOL For drinks, I got the Hot Mess and my significant other got the Cucumber Cooler but with tequila added. Both were good and quite refreshing. Shout out to Isa for giving us recommendations on which drinks to get, she was very sweet and talked and took care of us a bit before she had to leave! Huge shoutout to Jorge for being such a sweet server! He came by and checked on us constantly to make sure everything was okay and made sure we didn't need anything. He gave us solid recommendations and gave us the mac and cheese and dessert on the house! Such an unexpected gesture that was very appreciated and made our date night feel so much more fun and special! THANK YOU JORGE!! Parking is either valet, local parking garages (beware some close at 7PM) or metered street parking. It's located on the first floor of the building. You can ask reception and they'll guide you to the entrance. Arrived on time for the reservation. Service was excellent. It was a large party each with their our peculiar way of ordering. Our server was amazing, heavy pours, attentive, and patient. We tried basically every appetizer (the portobello mushroom with aioli were delectable!). Entrees ranged from seafood to steak. Made an appointment 6 months prior to make sure I got a time that works with our show across the street. Show was at 8pm and Reservation was 615pm. Plenty of time to eat and enjoy. We showed up 15 mins early. We didn't get seated until 7pm! They gave tables to others who came after us. Asked us our name like 4x. Our food did not come out until 740pm! We had to speed eat in order to make the show. It's to expensive of a place to be run like that. And I did everything right to make sure we weren't rushed while there. The place let us down big time. The food was good but the execution of the reservation and the process of being seated was terrible. I asked to be given the check when the food was coming out because they put us in an extremely rushed position. I was 5 mins away from leaving before the food came out because of the disrespect.
