The building is gorgeous -- all brick walls, old-school elegance, and enough ambiance to make you sit up straighter the second the waiter approaches. It feels like the kind of place where politicians make secret deals over cabernet and couples get engaged next to a plate of scallops that costs more than your first car payment. The wine list is so extensive I'm pretty sure it has its own ZIP code. The service? Extremely polished. The servers glide around with the confidence of people who definitely know which fork you're supposed to use and are praying you don't ask. Food-wise, it's fantastic. Steaks arrive looking like they just graduated summa cum laude from culinary school. The oysters are elite. The desserts whisper, "You deserve this," right before your bank app sends a push notification asking if everything is okay. And honestly, the best part is the atmosphere. It's one of the few restaurants where everyone collectively agrees to lower their voice by 30%. You don't hear blenders, screaming toddlers, or a guy explaining crypto. Just soft conversation, and clinking glasses. Would I go back? Absolutely. But only after checking my credit score, hydrating properly, and reminding myself that "treat yourself" is not a legally binding financial strategy. In all seriousness: it's worth every dime. One for bread (complementary), one for apps, one for water. Your main person takes care of the order, drinks and check. Food Items: Arcadian Mixed Greens: It was a side salad, no rating. Freshed strawberries and sliced apples. Braised Mary's Chicken: 4.1/5 - friend said chicken was nicely prepared and tasty. Pan-seared Local Black Cod: 4/5 - Delicate fatty fish (sablefish). Felt like it was not the star of the plate per se, as the cream and vegetables packed more of a flavor punch. Vanilla Crème Brûlèe: 4/5 - Was fine per my friend. Chocolate Mousse Cake: 4.1/5 - Nice portion. Not overly sweet. I will say, sellands market has a dark chocolate mousse bar that may have spoiled me with the intense dark chocolate take on mousse. Me and my husband really enjoyed our first time visiting the firehouse restaurant. Service was impeccable. Everyone was on point and ready to meet the needs of all customers equally. I ordered a New York Steak entrée. Although it didn't come out medium as requested, it was not grossly overly cooked and I still enjoyed it. My husband ordered the double bone pork chop. He cleared his plate and enjoyed everything as well. We will definitely come back to try a different entrees . I love that they had Seabass and halibut on the menu. The Firehouse had their Firehouse Wedding Showcase today in their courtyard. It was set up beautifully with table setting arrangements, food, and various vendors to complete the wedding experience. Upon entry, you were offered a glass of sparkling wine before heading down to the courtyard. A buffet was set up with a charcuterie display, bbq pork sliders, Mac n cheese, and broccolini. Other hors d'oeuvre were served by staff, and staff walked around to pick up discarded items. A vendor was displayed from photography, music, photos, cake, etc. An open bar was also available during the event. Visited December 17th..see my receipt as always. This is always one of my last stops while staying overnight in Old Sacramento. It's upscale and classy yet has a romantic and warm feel to it! Great happy hour and dinner menu ( their steaks are the best!). My boyfriend and I had a great time with their 2 wonderful bartenders...Gage and Carly. They are friendly and true professionals! We of course got their prime rib blend burger with fries during happy hour...so filling and always done perfectly! You can't beat the happy hour drinks (Martini). Dine Downtown Restaurant Week 2026 with my friend Cristi, a Thursday night dinner. If not doing valet, better to park at the garage rather than street metered parking which is enforced until 10pm. I started with a very berry mocktail, and the first course for Dine Downtown was a salad as the only choice, and a small cracker bite in between courses. For mains, I went with the dish (pan-seared black cod) over the chicken -- no steak option this time. For dessert I chose the creme brulee, and she had the chocolate mousse cake. For my birthday the brulee came out on a plate with candle and Happy Birthday message, but there was also an additional slice of caramel cheesecake brought out. Met up with some friends in Sac and they recommended this place. We made a last minute reservation for 8 and they were able to accommodate us without any issues. The restaurant was pretty cute with thoughtful decor and a beautiful wine cellar. It's located in an old firehouse, kind of obvious because of the name. They even kept the circle stairs that goes up, but that's blocked off just for show. Parking in the area can be a bit tricky, but they do offer valet service. The service was attentive and the food overall was very good. We brought two bottles of our own wine and paid the corkage fee, which was a nice option to have. The halibut was slightly on the dry side, but the steaks were excellent and cooked perfectly to a medium rare. The appetizers were a good portion and great for sharing with the table. The duck breast was moist and flavorful, and the rack of lamb was especially impressive. The Caesar salad was great and they even throw in whole pieces of anchovies!! We ended up being the last table to leave, which says a lot about how much we enjoyed our evening. Overall, great service, delicious food, and a lovely atmosphere. Would definitely come back. Firehouse Restaurant had been on my Sacramento bucket list for a while, mainly because of the patio. I remember walking down the alley once and catching a glimpse of it through the opening--it had those charming brick structures, lots of greenery, and little fairy lights. It looked so romantic, and I always thought, "One day, I'm coming back here for dinner." Well, I finally did on Saturday, June 14. We did not have a reservation, but when we walked in, I asked the host if the patio was open and if we could sit out there. He had a really thick European accent. Honestly, I couldn't tell, and neither could my friend. We didn't understand a word he said, and he already looked annoyed that we even asked. We didn't press for more info because he seemed pretty bothered, but we gathered that the patio was closed for some reason. He sat us in the bar area, and to be honest, I wish I had just left then. I'd never been there before, and for the price, it just wasn't what I expected. The bar area was freezing. The A/C was blasting, and it made the whole meal kind of uncomfortable. Our waitress was nice, and I let her know I was on keto. When she asked about bread, I told her I couldn't eat it, but my friend would, so to bring it out for him. No problem there. I ordered the filet mignon, medium rare, and reminded her again that I was on keto and avoiding carbs. She didn't mention that the filet came on a bed of mashed potatoes, which I didn't notice on the menu either. So when the food arrived, there it was--mashed potatoes. The steak itself was tiny. I don't know how many ounces it was supposed to be, but it looked like a couple bites, not a proper entrée, especially for the price. She came back to check on us, and I said I wished I'd known it came with mashed potatoes. She said, "Oh yeah, I should've mentioned that since you said you were on keto." Then she offered to bring something else, like more vegetables, or said she could bring a salad if I wanted. I asked if there was a side salad, and she said no, only full-size ones, but she'd bring me the menu. She was really sweet about it and kept saying she just wanted to make sure I ate something, and that she didn't mind putting it in quickly. The way she said it made it sound like she was going to comp the salad, especially since it was her oversight and there were no smaller options to swap in. At first, I said no thanks, but she insisted, so I agreed. I ended up getting a Caesar salad, which was literally lettuce, some Parmesan cheese, and oil and vinegar since I couldn't do the croutons or the dressing because of the carbs. Then came the bill--and there it was. A $17 charge for the salad. I was honestly shocked. It felt misleading because the way she phrased everything made it seem like it was a courtesy. So overall? Not worth it. The ambiance wasn't great. The food didn't live up to the hype. The patio--which was the whole reason I came--was closed, and the service, while polite, felt disconnected from the experience. There are way better restaurants to try in downtown Sacramento. We came here last week for our wedding anniversary dinner. We had made reservations in advance and I belive this is your best option as they were crowded. It was baked and came with artichoke hearts and collard greens plus mashed potatoes. They had a vegan dish as a special the night we were there and it was spiraled zucchini with carrots and asparus with a beyond meat ragu. Very very good. The service was excellent and the bread basket was very nice. My husband had a cocktail and I had a mocktail. In addition the creme brulee was delicious! This is my first visit since it's new ownership and it was a beautiful, delicious courtyard experience for a wedding reception. The wait staff, bartenders and overall management were flawless. We were served petite filet mignon with mash potatoes and green beans that included an iceberg lettuce salad starter. My filet was cooked to perfection and the grade of beef was excellent! The salmon filets were thick and juicy - unlike most banquet servings. The chocolate mousse pie had flecks of gold on top for presentation and was silky with just the right amount of sweetness. The venue offered valet parking that could be validated by the Firehouse making parking easy since Old Sac's landscape is tough to hike in dress shoes. Same with the mashed potatoes and green beans it was served with. No flavor whatsoever. My husband's cod special was the same. Over $50 and bland as heck. Again, the fish was cooked perfectly, but there was no seasoning. So blah and for over $50 a plate, I was really disappointed. The apple and beet salad was the same. It lacked flavor and the farro tasted like doughy Playdoh. Add some goat cheese for a creamy tang, maybe? Or some salt or pepper? I don't know. It was another miss. As we're the shrimp fritters which we're a strange, wet, doughy texture inside. Almost like undercooked batter. Though the aoili was tasty.... The two best dishes of the night were the amuse bouche and the coffee mousse dessert. But for a bill over $1000 for 6 people, that was a big and expensive letdown. Thankfully my parents, whose 50th anniversary we were celebrating, enjoyed the company and wine (which was also insanely marked up, btw--champagne priced at $130 a bottle for bottles found at Total Wine for $60. ‍). Tip.... don't scoff at the $30 corkage fee. Go get the fancy bottles you want at retail, pay the fee, and you'll still probably save yourself $30-$50. For drinks, I had the Rose Marie and my husband had the Tiki Tiki; both were great choices. My experience is based on one visit, so our party's choices may not accurately reflect the offerings for which The Firehouse Restaurant is best known. I personally did not the beef offerings, so it may be we missed the boat. Given this is so, I will limit myself to the three standard components of the experience: ambience, service and the cuisine itself. The restaurant itself is a very pleasant location. A converted firehouse, it plays into its physical roots, with brass poles and other accruements of an age gone by (this is especially true in the bar area). The dining room is handsome, and gives off old school Northern California vibes. Formally set tables, large paintings of the Romantic school, and whitewashed brick walls sets the scene for elegant dining. I was greatly impressed with look and feel of this establishment. The service was generally good. Our waiter was polite, if occasionally a bit too unctuous. He did his best to navigate our large-ish party on a busy and crowded Saturday night. When we arrived for our meal, the restaurant was entirely full. So while there were gaps in the service, I give staff props for trying to provide food and drink in a timely away. That does lead to the meal itself and in this regard, there was much to be desired. They did have an impressive wine list and I enjoyed a decent Californian white and a French red. My wife, not a drinker, ordered a cucumber-mint mocktail, which she found quite refreshing. But as to the food itself? I would say that the menu is ambitious in scope and amateurish in execution. Our starters, which should have been slam dunks, left us shaking our heads. I had the Wedge salad and she the shrimp fritters. Both were ample in quantity, but were crudely prepared. While perfectly edible, they hardly boasted any particular quality. Indeed, my salad was not as good as one I had for lunch in an inexpensive cafe earlier in the day. Our mains were similarly disappointing. My wife had the rack of lamb. Again, ample in size, but also underdone. I had a specialty of the evening, salmon with an accompanying seafood mixture, which was described as a kind of thick cioppino. It turned out to be a slightly overdone salmon fillet with a tomato-fish accompaniment. It was not a salubrious experiment. Again, it was perfectly edible, but showing a real lack of culinary refinement. To be fair, others in our party did order the strip steak and fillet mignon, and seemed happy with their choices. But FR I think has ambitions to being more than a chophouse. Right now, that is where I would put it. The one bright spot in terms of food was dessert. The churros-tres leches cake was excellent, the vanilla cake just soaked enough. Similarly, the coffee-mousse entremets was flavorful and showed real culinary flair. So kudos on the afters. Taken as a whole, I had a pleasant time at Firehouse. It was a great spot to have a nice night out. But I couldn't in good conscience recommend it on the food alone. We ordered shrimp fritters, it comes with four balls, Two sets of oysters, which were super tiny in my opinion but tasted fresh, and a pork strip. Once the mains came in, we were ready to eat. The food tasted great at the portions were good. I enjoyed the moistness and flavor of the steak, and the seasoning of the chicken. The salmon was too fishy in my opinion. I feel like the table was very excited for the desserts as we all agreed the carrot cake was amazing and the chocolate mousse cake was delicious. They knew it was a birthday so they brought out a piece of cake with a candle on it to allow us to sing happy birthday. That was a very nice touch Our server was very informational and pleasant. They greeted us with warmth acknowledging our anniversary from the moment we stepped inside. Our server Andrea was a gentleman who was very attentive to every detail of our dining. Ensuring we were happy & that our food was perfect. He even took a photo for us. The surprise of all surprises the Chef who paid tribute to our anniversary with complimentary appetizer and dessert. My family and I made reservations at this restaurant for a birthday celebration. It was our first time and as soon as we arrived we were greeted by the staff and seated near the middle of the restaurant. Ordered the chef's special for the night (Chilean Sea Bass) and family ordered Filet Mignon. Food was very tasty, portion was just right, and our tummies were very satisfied at the end of the night. Food was super delicious! Every plate we had was delicious. The drinks were also great. We had mocktails. We were seated in the outdoor area in the back and we got amazing customer service. This is a top star restaurant amidst the zombies and schlocky tourist traps in Old Sac. The still elegant bar area tables may be better than the more snooty 'restaurant area directly attached. The duck and steak were exquisitely done. One of top wine and whiskey lists I've ever seen. Top wait staff and bartenders. Pricey but they earn it. The Victorian architecture in the area about is worth a stroll. read more

Finally got to try the Firehouse Restaurant last night for my company holiday party! It started with appetizers and cocktail hour (an open bar) in a private area of the restaurant! It was quite beautiful! We were downstairs next to the courtyard! The area had a fireplace and was well decorated! We had our meal for around 35 people as a pre plated menu! The appetizers stole the show. We had bruschetta, beef Wellington, shrimp skewers, crab cakes! The shrimp was my favorite! Perfectly cooked, and seasoned! Yum!!!! After cocktail hour wrapped up we all sat down for the meal! It started with a beautiful salad!! It tasted very fresh and was colorful! Then after salad it was time for the entree. I got the steak. We had a choice of steak, fish, vegetarian or pork. The steak was overcooked and didn't have any flavor. It came with mashed potatoes and green beans! Both were fine! The star off the show was the chocolate mousse cake! It was so rich and delicious and I swear it had gold flakes. The staff were very nice and attentive! They made the entire experience very pleasant! I would love to come back to firehouse and eat off the menu! I've always heard people love it! I've been here celebrating anniversaries, birthdays and even attended a wedding. I enjoyed every single experience. This restaurant is wonderful. The inside is very elegant. I've had table service and enjoyed my time at the bar. All of the people who work here are kind and helpful. All of the food I've had here is so good. I love their lobster and chicken.
