Lazy lunch on a Sunday afternoon after a Saturday late night of drinking. The Thenthuk was a perfect hangover remedy which they very kindly split for me and my friend in the kitchen, undoubtedly saving my clothes from death but soup. I worked up a cauliflower sweat, all the while enjoying the mom and pop vibe and menu describing excitement of our waiter. I'd go back. read more

Tranquil and intimate atmosphere with a dash of a semi-upscale vibe. The music was soft with a slow beat. The lighting was comfortably warm. The staff here were hospitable and attentive. Their menu is a mixture of contemporary Tibetan and American cuisine. We had the beef momo (4/5). It was succulent but lacked seasoning. The beef shabaley (3.5) was also very juicy, but the dough was too chewy. The stir fried noodles (4/5) was delicious and smokey, with a medley of ingredients. The chicken sekuwa (3.5/5) was grilled rightly but quite bland. I love the presentation and execution of technique, but some of the dishes could use more salt to draw out the flavor. Overall, it was a decent dining experience and I would recommend it to anyone. read more

Dawa's is great! Good food and a lovely ambiance with slightly upscale vibes to contrast with the more casual/lowkey Himalayan joints in the area. We had a reservation for 3 on a Saturday night. The place was busy but not packed. We ordered: Veg momo, chicken momo, tsel-baley, chili cauliflower, and riki kur. Everything was tasty and flavorful. It was my first time having tsel-baley and riki kur and I recommend trying both. We ordered exclusively from the Himalayan menu, but there's American offerings as well. read more

We love dawa's for their array of veg options and their both Asian and American options. Our fave is the chili cauliflower (though sometimes the cauliflower is not as crispy as I'd like it to be) and the potato pancakes with three cheese dip. Some dishes we've ordered that we felt were just okay are the veg momos and the purple soup (I forget the name for it). We felt like they could've had more depth in flavors. Very nice vibes, good spot for a date or with friends. Pretty good alcohol selection. read more

Came here for an impromptu lunch with an old friend and loved everything about it. First time trying himalayan food for the both of us and no regrets at all. Cozy and aesthetic inside while also giving authentic vibes. The plating was lovely and the server took care of us extremely well, asking for our feedback on the food at the end. I think the 3 things we got - Momo, Shabaley, and Riki kur - were super solid dishes. Would recommend Dawa's for anyone trying out HImalayan/Nepalese food for the first time! read more

Cute ambience with their Himalayan decorations and vibes! They have an outdoor space that is also well lit for evenings especially as it gets darker. The food and service was quick in terms of wait time and very thoughtful service! We truly devoured everything we had and I definitely would get their momos again and the fish dish again! We also enjoyed beef noodle soup and the vegetable pancake thing (forgot the name) very delicious! read more

The service was great, especially the skinny male server, he's so much more friendly than the girl. In terms of the food, it's a bit spicy for me, the chicken skewers without the green spicy sauce is not bad. The sauces are heavily spicy. The burger was good too. read more

Dawa's has a nice ambience. It's clean, the staff is friendly, and they can accommodate larger groups even though the space is relatively small. My only complaint about the space is that when the door opens in winter time, it gets really cold, and I had to cover myself with my coat. The food is really good, but compared to other restaurants of the same cuisine (Himalayan) it is pretty pricey. I had the beef tongue, which was a little spicy, very tender, and flavorful, and came with a whole grain bun. The portion size was just right, more filling than I thought. I tried one of the beef momos and it was beautifully presented and tasted pretty good, but I wouldn't order it because cost-benefit isn't so great (8 momos for 10), when you could get it for $5 or $6 in other places in the neighborhood. Their kale salad is delicious, definitely one of the highlights in terms of flavor profile and texture. I'd go back to try their brunch and maybe the non-Himalayan side of the menu. read more

Such a lovely little joint. I went on a Sunday and decided to have brunch there with my 4 year old and a friend. We arrived and we were seated right away. The service was good, and the food was great. The interior is sweet and simple. My daughter had pancakes with berries on the side and it was AH-MAZING, the pancakes were fluffy and delightful. My friend had black chickpeas that came with puffy dough and Sunnyside eggs. I have to say the black chickpeas were to die for and very flavorful. I had baked eggs, it was MEH. We also had chicken dumplings and they were really good. I love the sauce that it came with, it was on point and it hit the spot. Overall, I would definitely go back to this gem. I enjoyed the whole atmosphere, the food was great and the service was pleasant. read more

Ate here when it was warmer and ate outdoors with a friend. My friend and I ordered vegetarian momos, chana and gwaramari, pharsi, citrus avocado salad, and Tibetan butter salt tea. To be honest the item that blew me away was the butter salt tea. I couldn't believe the flavors it brought out after just taking one sip. The ceramic cup makes it more inviting and warm for me to drink. My favorite dis was the chana and gwaramari with the egg on top. Everything in the dish was perfect, so flavorful and filled with so much texture it was very lovely. read more

I came here for lunch with my friend one day just to try the restaurant since they received quite a lot of positive reviews. We ordered vegetable dumplings and their signature dish, buttermilk chicken sandwich. The dumplings were ok, it had a different taste than regular vegetable dumpling due to their homemade ingredients. We both thought the buttermilk chicken sandwich was just average. Luckily we ordered only one and shared it. Four stars for the dumplings, three stars for the sandwich. The service was very good! read more

So, i went here to catch up with my friends . I'm a little to late add this review but here it goes . The staffs were super kind. The atmosphere and decor looks really cool which is something that sets them apart from other nepalese/himalayan restaurant . We ordered the chicken , tingmo to go with it , chowmein/noodles and momo and chamomile tea. Momo was great the sauce was tasty , i wanted to ask for more sauce lol . The tingmo was soft . The chicken was okay but i think i'll avoid next time . Nothing wrong with the food it's just that my tastebud didn't really vibe with the flavor .But I really liked the stir fried noodles and my favorite chamomile tea never fails me . I definitely recommend everyone to try this place if you haven't. read more

What a great find in the neighborhood! Dawa's had great American brunch and Himalayan/Tibetan cuisine. What an interesting combination - something for everyone! I've been to Dawa's twice and tried both types of cuisine both times. The dilemma is really deciding what to order. I guess it comes down to what you're in the mood for! I really enjoyed the American brunch dishes I tried, but I really prefer Dawa's Himalayan/Tibetan dishes more. Here are the dishes we tried: Drinks: ~ Hibiscus lemon verbena ice tea (non-sweet) - so refreshing! ~ Beet and orange juice - good American Brunch: ~ French Toast (brioche bread, compote, vanilla Chantilly cream) - sweetly delicious and satisfying ~ Omelette (cheese, peppers, mushroom, served w.salad) - good but nothing really special about it. ~ Shrimp and Dirty Corn (wild shrimp, sweet corn, parmesan, jalapeno aioli) - omg LOVED this dish; especially the corn (it had the most amazing dressing on it) ~ Buttermilk chicken sandwich (pickle onion jalapeno aioli w.side of potato chips) - great! ~ Baked eggs (season veg's, roasted potatoes, gremolata sauce, sourdough bread) - just ok, but only had one egg (not "eggs"). Himalayan/Tibetan Dishes: ~ Veg & Chicken Momos (steamed dumplings served in a bed of mild spicy fenugreek and tomato sauce) - both were good, but the chicken momo's really stood out. The sauce is amazingly delicious!! ~ Chicken fried noodles (chicken, veg, spice) - just ok ~ Pharsi (Kabocha squash, toasted wild dried chives, buckwheat crepe) - I didn't try this dish but the person who ordered this said she like it. ~ Pork Chilli (Bhutanese style slow cooked pork w.ginger, scallion, fermented bamboo shoots; comes with steamed bun) - tasty dish; I really enjoyed this one! Looking forward to a return visit to try new dishes! read more

We stumbled upon this place. I love salted drinks and tried their hot Tibetan tea (black tea, honey, butter, and salt!) Be warned that it was pretty salty for your average person but I loved it! I ordered the Jhasha Katsa and it was SOO good; tons of flavor, depth, and good portion. I need to come back ASAP. Wonderful restaurant- great food and staff. Very chill atmosphere--can't wait to go back!!

Tibetan / Himalayan cuisine is plentiful in this part of Queens, but what sets Dawa's apart almost immediately is their mantra of farm to table to cuisine. In doing so, Dawa's has incorporated American Brunch into their food repertoire and over the course of the last two years, they've become one of the more stellar choices in Sunnyside / Woodside neighborhood. The semi-narrow interior feels big with a decent number of tables and a large group one near the front. The decor is interesting; rustic furniture, drapes across the ceiling, flowery wall pieces, and real plants throughout the space. Unlike their Jackson Heights competition, the vibe here is almost unintentionally hipster. Gentrification clearly has no boundaries. Just like the best places, the food is the main attraction. The menu is two fold: Part Tibetan and American breakfast / brunch classics. Because they are farm to table, some of it is seasonal. Thankfully the food is executed in a way where few complaints are merited. In short, it is excellent. First and foremost, their take on Tibetan has been nothing short of impressive. The momos are all served on a bed of mild spicy fenugreek and tomato sauce, but are most importantly delicious with each bite. The skin is always light and even throughout and the crescent shape presentation style certainly doesn't hurt. Their black beef sausage (gyuma - $8) has a smokiness to it and is complemented with the spicy chili garlic sauce. The latter is also quite good with the beef patties (shabaley - $9). The stir fried noodles ($8) are probably better indicated as such than "chowmin" but are equally tasty nonetheless. My favorite dish, thenthuk ($10), maybe among the better versions I've had anywhere. The soup is hearty, earthy, and strangely addicting. The chunks of beef are incredibly flavorful and tender. The noodles are handmade and have an awesome texture to them. As always, I wish there was more. On the brunch side of things, where to start? The seasonal baked eggs ($9.50) was sitting in this delectable gremolata sauce and the sun choke and soft boiled eggs ($14) are a standout dish for its heartiness and flavorful combination. The grass fed beef burger ($16) is wonderful, though I wish grassfed meat was more plentiful. The same goes with the butter milk chicken sandwich ($13), delicious but not big enough to want to order it consistently. Just know whatever brunch item one orders, the options of adding more (eggs, bacon, etc.) are just a side order away. Prices are a certainly higher than most Tibetan / Himalayan spots, but Dawa's has certainly done enough to show they're attempting to do more. The service has been excellent for the most part and I love the fact they give out a nice cold bottle of water for every party. I am already looking forward to my next visit. read more

Dawa's is POPPIN! We came here over the weekend and were highly anticipating what Dawa's had to offer, as I heard great things. Quite noticable, is how busy it is. It definitely replicated that Soho and Williamsburg vibes. The decor complements that sentiment, which was very cozy and inviting. A couple of things we appreciated. First, we were accommodated in a four seater table, so we had no wait time. This is not normal practice, but very much appreciated. Second, the service was hyper aware of the customer needs. I thought "already starting off with a great impression". The starters were the Shabaley - which is a Tibetan beef pattie. The main order was the Market Fish and Buttermilk Chicken. Sides were the Chicken Momo and Bacon. All of the food was amazing! Dawa's is a hip trendy take on Himalayan/Tibetan food. I Love the atmosphere, attitude and straight up badassness. Sunnyside has alot of hidden gems and Dawa's is part of that Treasure waiting for people to discover. read more

I went to Dawa's because it was highly recommended by a Queens foodie group that I am In. The food is pretty good, the reason for the 2 stars is the bad service. Our waiter was so disinterested and acted like he was doing us a favor while we were there. I can't in good conscience recommend this restaurant, especially when there are so many great Himalayan options in Queens where they actually treat you like they want you in the restaurant. So in short: Food - Good Service - Bad (at least when we visited) read more

We came by on Sunday afternoon and were seated quickly in the nice outside area in the front, but not too close to the street. The Lockdown Affair was a really tasty way to start - the passion fruit flavor was amazing. I was really impressed with the menu since it had many options for vegans and non-vegans. I settled on the chili cauliflower, which was a great spicy mix of fried cauliflower, tomatoes, and peppers in a chili sauce, served with purple rice. It was so tasty and flavorful! My friend enjoyed her pancakes as well. I would love to see a vegan pancake or waffle option on the brunch menu! Everyone working there was friendly and we got everything we needed quickly. The menu here confuses me. One side is American fare, the other is Tibetan. Like, why? Who would come all the way to a Himalayan restaurant and order a burger? That confusion aside, just say yesyes to the momos. The Vegetable Stir-Fried Noodle is also a solid, healthy, filling dish, and my friend's chicken version was equally tasty. read more

A Queen's gem, Dawa's is one of our favorite places to go because of the cool ambiance, the super delicious food, lovely waitstaff, and awesome and friendly owner (if you're lucky enough to meet her). They have a dedicated American menu as well as a Himalayan menu, and oftentimes they try different things and experiment which is fun for regulars since there's always something unique to try. My favorite go-to dish however, is the Chili Chicken ("Jasha Katsa"), served with buckwheat ting-mo (steamed bun), which I recently learned was taken off the brunch menu and only available for dinner. It's a simple dish with complex flavors, and the tingmo dipped in the sauce from the dish is such a fantastic combination of texture, aromatic spice and flavor. It is just so comforting, I would eat it every day if I could! I like that they utilize locally sourced seasonal ingredients, and pay careful attention to naturals and organics, making their food not only impossibly delicious but healthy, too. Dawa's is one of my top ten restaurants in all of Queens, which is saying A LOT because this borough has a dizzying variety of incredible world cuisines. read more

So the inside of this restaurant is absolutely beautiful. Our waitress was nice but she spends too much time chitchatting behind the bar that she would forget to bring things we asked for. The momo's were pretty good but the noodles were so spicy which was not mentioned in the menu because if it was, I would not have gotten it. I didn't even eat my meal because I hate spicy food. When the waitress came over to ask if everything was okay and if we wanted anything to go I told her it was too spicy. Good customer service would have at least asked if I wanted something different especially considering she saw I was not eating it. I would not come back. read more

Came here with the boyfriend about a month ago during our wanderings in Astoria. Seriously such a unique gem of a place! We ordered a few Himalayan inspired dishes, including the momos, all of which was incredible, savory and delicious. I snuck peeks at the tables next to us, which were laden with brunch options, like French toast, etc, the alternative menu they offer in addition to their Himalayan dishes. We'll have to try that next time. I loved how it looked inside as well, from the flags above to the table settings and plateware. Everything was simple, with a feeling of calm joy. Been looking to check this place out for a bit and thankfully we did. Went on a weekend night for some food and drinks , they asked for our vaccine cards and seated us. Interior decor is very simple and clean, atmosphere is good for groups, family or a date night, staff is very friendly. 5 stars because we visited here on a day that they were having problems with their kitchen and had only small plates. Was going to walk out but opted to try it out. They said the small plate menu was made the night before. Each plate we ordered was delicious and something we've never had before. Flavors were paired so well for a menu they just came up with. I'd definitely revisit when their kitchen is back up. read more

Not a Himalayan food regular but I really enjoyed the thenthuk here. Sometimes noodle soups with beef bone broth can get a bit bland but I think they seasoned their broth well. They also added chili for heat and cilantro to round out the flavor. I thought it was well balanced. The texture on the noodles and the softness of the beef were both on point. Also tried their gyuma (black sausage). I guess this is their version of a blood sausage. Quite similar to a sundae (sausage not dessert) in fact. This is pretty good as well. Definitely wanna come back and try more of their stuff. read more

If I could give this place 6 stars I would! I haven't had such a delicious and amazing meal in sooo long. It was simple "homey" clean cooking. Nothing but good food served by the folks who probably grew up eating this food. Chicken momos and shabaley to start. The momos (Nepal dumplings) were sitting in a delicious curry like sauce, can't be any better. The shabaley were perfectly fried little beef empanadas. And the hot sauce?? Fugetaboutit! A little spicy but it can make a rubber shoe taste good. I ordered the buttermilk fried chicken sandwich and my wife ordered the baked eggs. I couldn't eat my sandwich fast enough. I had to or else my wife would've gotten more then one bite. I had to move quick to get a bite of her eggs as well. My parents ordered the jasha katsa, thenthuk and French toast. The chicken in the Jahsa katsa was extremely flavorful. The thenthuk noodles are perfect after a long day or to prepare for a long day. The French toast, I mean Chantilly vanilla cream....you can't go wrong. Also they have jasmine kombucha on tap. I can't wait to come back, I might just have to become Nepal. read more

Amazing! My sister and I went here because of friends recommendations. We ordered 2 things: Chicken Momo (server recommended) and Lamb Soup (I forgot the name) Both were very good and yummy! The chicken dumplings were steamed to perfection and not too salty. They're dipped in this curry type sauce (I personally didn't like but my sister loved it). The soup reminded us of our dish back home in the Philippines (Nilaga) and it's paired with Red Rice (really good and healthy). The atmosphere is minimalistic/rustic inside. We almost missed it though because it's not as inviting from the outside. It has a small door to get into. Other than that, the dishes used are so cute !! Also, we had a really amazing server who is Nepalese and we could tell she was knowledgeable about the food. read more

We were in the neighborhood and were looking for something new. Looked up places on Yelp and found this. We've never tried Himalayan food and were intrigued. We came around 11 and the place had a good amount of people. We were sat at a cute picnic table in the back. The menu is half Himalayan and half American brunch. My kids wanted to try the pulled pork stew with a steamed bun and the noodle soup. I had the baked eggs and my husband tried their chicken sandwich. We also had an order of beef momos to share. I didn't realize Himalayan food would be so spicy! The momos were good, but the dough was a little on the thick side. We liked the sauce that it came in. The pulled pork stew was yummy too but really spicy. The broth on the noodle soup is good. Nice and mild with a good bone marrow flavor. We were impressed with how good the American brunch food was. The baked eggs were delicious. The ramp sauce that topped it really made the dish. We all loved the chicken sandwich. It may be the best chicken sandwich I've had. The chicken is well flavored, crisp and light. It was fried but not greasy. Thank you fellow Yelpers for the recommendation! We'll be back for more! read more
