Came here for brunch one day with a friend, and was not dissapointed. My friend had the omelette which was really good, and i had one of the best pancakes ever. The place had an interesting decor, and they also make good coffee thus making it a regular place for me to have brunch. Service was friendly, and the price for each menu is very reasonable. Cute little spot off Stillman. It was our first time but from the nice amount of people that came and went while we were there you could tell this is a neighborhood fav. We shared the buttermilk chicken sandwich and the vegetable momos. Chicken sandwich was surprisingly light and crispy and the L&T with the jalapeño aioli(not spicy at all) was the perfect compliment. Reco for sure! I was fully into the veggie momos, great green flavor and lovely sauce. We also got both juice options from the menu, beet/ orange and blood orange...Delish and fresh. So happy this spot has opened in the neighborhood. A nice mix of breakfast, lunch and dinner items including new American and Tibetan cuisine. Very vegetarian/vegan friendly as well as offering free range/cage free eggs and grass fed meat options. Yes, their brunch game is amazing but damn pls fix the AC or bump it up a little more. We came here twice and both times me and my bf were sweating... Or was it just us? I have no idea. The food was good ( baked eggs, beef momo, Chicken chowmein) the gyuma was dry but it was edible. The decor is minimal and something I've never seen In a Tibetan restaurant before. I would just come for the decor haha. But yeah no matter how good the food is, sweating and eating doesn't go hand in hand. Dawa's is a welcome addition to the neighborhood -- finally a place where they get pancakes right! And egg sandwiches! At last! The staff is friendly and they have an ethnic food menu that looks incredible, which I will absolutely be going back to try. That being said, their coffee-game is weak, and portions are pretty small (but so is the price!). Such a wonderful and unique place -- Dawa has taken what was a lovely Italian cafe and transformed it into an only-in-New-York mix of authentic Tibetan food with her own unique international twists -- I'm vegan, and even with a limited menu, I regret missing the items I'm not ordering because everything is so good. The soups are ALWAYS extraordinary -- fresh pea with mint, lentil simmered in tea, cold cucumber and zucchini -- the momos are maybe my favorite food, period, and the salads combine so many terrific flavors. Dawa will provide special dinners for groups -- we had a post-Board celebration there and it was magical. And the service team is delightful and the prices are reasonable, even by Western Queens standards. Dawa's was hands-down my favorite place in Sunnyside (if not the whole city) to write. They opened early, had a wonderful (and affordable) breakfast menu and it was a very pleasant place to work. I tried to go again today only to find out that they don't open until 10am, no longer have their breakfast menu, and don't allow electronics on the weekends. Given that's when I need to get work done in a cafe, this is really disappointing. I understand wanting to keep tables open for the brunch "rush" but I happily shared tables with others in the past and ordered a steady stream of food and coffee the entire time I'd stay. Really hoping someone else opens in Sunnyside to fill this void. read more

This is one of my favorite restaurants in the world. I know that sounds like a big claim, but Dawa's is the most consistently satisfying restaurant I have ever frequented. The menu changes a bit here and there with special dishes and seasonal vegetables, but I love my staple veggie momos, chick pea flat bread, tse-baley, pharsi, or one of the rotating special dishes. I am a vegan but there are also lots of meat dishes on the menu. I am underselling this place. Its professionally executed, exquisite, and overflowing with creativity and love. 5 stars!!! read more

I really wish I could keep this place to myself, but I had a great time coming here last week! Great ambiance and great food. They have two menus - one for Western food and one for Himalayan. It was not super crowded for dinner and the service was very quick. We got the veggie momos, which were delicious and also very healthy tasting (in a good way). I also got the risotto, which was very good, but I think next time I'd like to try the noodles or have something off the Himalayan menu as an entree. The food doesn't seem to have the preservatives-laden taste or look to it that a lot of other similar places have, everything tastes like it was made with real veggies/not frozen. I definitely plan on giving this place a second (or third...or fourth...) visit. read more

a few weekends ago, i decided to go out for a coffee just to get out of the house. just wanted a cappuccino somewhere and a few minutes to relax, be amongst the living and check out a few things like the news on my laptop. Wasn't planning on being out very long. checked out Dawa mid afternoon and they were practically empty - maybe 2 other customers were there-- so I didn't feel bad about just ordering a coffee and probably a pastry... I walked in and asked the manager/greeter if they had Wifi and he said yes -- perfect ! BUT here is the deal breaker --- he said I couldn't use their wifi "because it is the weekend". What ??? Why ???? The place is empty. WTF. So I left. Do they think people still read an actual newspaper? Get with the 21st Century. I was not even anticipating sitting there for long I just wanted to get out of the house for a minute. And I repeat -- the place was EMPTY. Like I am ever going back there again. PS: Yes, I do have and pay for my own WiFi at home. I don't need to go out to use other people's WiFi for hours on end. read more

They have two menus; a himalayan inspired one and a more or less american farm to table-ish one; Ive enjoyed both. very friendly good service, nice decor with touched like hand thrown pottery for plates, etc. and the owner is seemingly always there cooking. they dont have a liquor license as of 1/2018. I was so excited to check out dawa's. After checking out their website, I couldn't wait to go there and see for myself. Finally last Sunday I headed there. The decor is really cool and hip. I loved the veg momo (wish it was hot). The waitresses seemed a bit overwhelmed or spaced out. I think management really needs to train them. Our food came out separately, ordered a side of bacon that never came, the baked egg was a bit dry. I was so sad and disappointed because I had spoken so highly of this joint and felt let down. Fantastic! Food, service and atmosphere all great. Cannot believe it took us so long to try, but we were there for the first time this past weekend. The chili pork was great, chilled beet soup fantastic, salad with watermelon and tomato? yes! Momos of course are delicious - but what's unique here is that the owner/chef/staff really care about what they are doing.
