For starters, I came with a reservation with 10 people, and we were accommodated decently well with around a 10-15 minute wait time past our reservation. The ambience was great, but I would say that there should be more lights at the table, as someone who may not have great eyesight would not be able to read the menu very well. The food itself came faster than expected, with only a 10 minute wait time. For our appetizers, we got dumplings and scallion pancakes. The dumplings and the pancakes were alright, but the sauce that came with the dumplings was incredible. The fries were great too. I ordered the dry pepper chicken and I asked for extra spice, even though it was already marked to be incredibly spicy, but I found the spice level to be lackluster. The flavor itself was very much what I expected, with a peppery profile and a nice crispy crust. I honestly was more impressed by the other dishes that I tried. I tried the spicy tofu pot which paired really well with rice. Additionally, I tried the dandan noodles, which I wasn't a huge fan of as it tasted very peanuty. Last, I tried the cumin lamb, which for some reason, was way spicier than my dish, which was meant to be spicier than the highest spice level that they offered. For dessert, I had the deep fried ice cream, which just tasted average. Didn't have high expectations for Dan Dan since we're super spoiled in SoCal with the best Taiwanese/Szechuan but I was happy to be proven wrong! The restaurant is modern, clean and spacious with a full bar right upon entering. We were seated promptly and provided with water (that never went empty - props to the gentlemen who kept topping us off several times). Between two of us, we shared the Scallion Pancakes ($4.25), Dan Dan Noodles ($8.25), Sichuan Beef Noodle Soup ($13.45) and Wontons in Chili Oil ($6.95). The sauce provided with the crispy scallion pancakes were out of this world and also went really well with the wontons. Enjoyed the Dan Dan noodles that were cooked nice and al dente with extra sauce to drizzle over the noodles. I had gotten Dan Dan take out a few times during the pandemic and had always been satisfied with their food. When a friend came to visit me, and we didn't feel like driving all the way into the city for quality food, I finally dined in at Dan Dan, and the food experience was amazing. Quality, Szechuan themed food here. I can't speak for the authenticity because I've never been to China (more specifically that area of China) but you'll find items on the menu here that you won't see anywhere else not in Chinatown. We ordered the scallion pancakes and Dan Dan noodles to start. I could eat these noodles every day and never grow tired of them. They're so incredibly flavorful with a perfect spicy punch. For main dishes, we ordered the spicy aromatic pot and the dry pepper dish with chicken. Each packed a nice dose of heat while maintaining great flavor. The chicken was crispy and tender. Both gave that numbing and satisfying Szechuan peppercorn spice without being overwhelming. The waitress/hostess seemed to be covering the entire restaurant for lunch, but she was very friendly and super attentive. First time having Chinese food in this area and I was pleasantly surprised. On Tuesdays, it's BYOB btw! Our servers did a great job of checking in on us. Of course, at a Sichuan place, they were packing heat so I wish they refilled our water more and provided tea. Dan Dan is my go to Taiwanese restaurant outside of Philadephia. They have the best Dan dan noodles. I also really love their soup dumpling. The hubby and I come here for their lunar new year dinner every year since we move here. Every year they have some solid dessert of choice. Recently we went there and they got fried pumpkin mochi dessert and they were delicious. The service is always really good. A little bit of heat when you get a good portion of the oil in and well filled. The cumin lamb had more of a kick to it. I was prejudiced and presumed that the food would not be authentic or good because of how cute it is inside, definitely thought "definitely selling the ambience but not food kind of place", but boy was I wrong! Dan Dan noodles: I almost never order it because I have been burned too many times. But since their name is Dan Dan, I must order it right? It did not disappoint - good balance of sesame sauce and spice; chewy noodles. Would definitely order again. LRF: only $3.50! How can we pass on that? Definitely authentic and really liked it!! I am obsessed with DanDan!!!!!! Their food is absolutely amazing we get the same thing everytime. We got the dumplings in chili oil, the scallion pancakes, the soup dumplings, and the Dan Dan noodles. My favorites were definitely the scallion pancakes and the Dan Dan noodles. For entrees, the three of us split a aromatic dry pot ribeye dish, green peppercorn hot sauce dish with chicken, and the beef lo mein. The aromatic dry pot ribeye was by far my favorite. It was entirely too much food. The entrees were huge and each was enough for 2-3 people to split. The pomegranate lychee lemonade and gingerade were both good as well. Dear Dan Dan owners, I visited your Wayne location and experienced the worst service ever on Monday 2/13/23 (see attached receipt). The server (Anna) came by my table ONCE throughout the entire meal to take my order and that was it. I never saw Anna the server again throughout the meal. No one came to check on the meal, the other server Jeff had dropped off the my entree out of order. The soup was not delivered and the entree was brought first. By the time the entree arrived, it was no longer HOT. It was luke warm. At no point did anyone come by to check if the food was delicious, no one came to replenish my water glass, I had to flag a server down on EVERY occasion, even to get my check. Justin the manager stopped by after I had requested to speak to him. Never have I met a less empathetic leader. Justin even had the confidence to say that Dan Dan is better than Michelin star restaurants and that he's eaten at many of them. Dan Dan owners, this is an embarrassment :( to say the least. I promise you im not trying to disparage you but to provide constructive criticism and feedback. Perhaps mainliners are okay with this level of service but it was below par on every level. I am terribly disappointed and have not met a manager of an establishment that's less empathetic and customer oriented than Justin. What a shame Dan Dan management, what a shame. This place is family style, so I suggest ordering a variety of dishes from the menu so that you can try them a little bit of everything. I thought the ambiance did not actually match the vibe of the actual restaurant, it looks like a really fancy restaurant where I should eat eating a high-end restaurant's steak or some nice Italian food. We went there on the New Year's Eve with a prior reservation. This was my first shot at the Taiwanese Cuisine and was very excited after looking at their menu that had lamb options! After spending a few minutes on the menu, we felt the appetizers were not really appealing (scallion pan cakes, Noodles, pot stickers etc) and were pretty much the usual offerings, however we did order some potstickers for the kids and the rest of us got ourselves an entree each. Dry pot lamb Dry pot chicken Ginger shrimp fried rice A whole fish pot Chicken lo mein All of them were really good, and as the name says, the pot dishes came in huge portions filled in stainless steel pots with a tiny flame underneath to keep the fish piping hot almost until the last bite, which really enhanced the whole experience. A lot of ingredients (cumin, turmeric, dry red chilies) were familiar to us since they are integral part of Indian cooking and hence the flavors too were easily likeable. The fish dish was the highlight of the meal, it was made of fresh tilapia filets. The lamb dish was very good too, however what I felt was it was a bit overboard with the usage of sauces which made the gravy a bit slimy, it could easily do with some more nice broth to give it that flavorful soupy kick. Well that's what I felt about it. Customer service was on point. Waters filled at regular intervals and sides of rice bowls kept coming in as we asked. We tried Crab meat & pork soup dumplings, cumin lamb hand ripped noodles, and Sichuan Farmer's dry pot lamb. We were fairly disappointed by our first dish - dry pot lamb. It was rated as extra hot but tasted sweet instead. Very disappointing! Not a lot of flavor either. Lamb noodles were good and the only dish I would recommend. Noodles were soft and meat was well spiced and cooked. Dumplings were okay. Not much soup and outer layer was thick. Overall, our experience of the food here was mediocre. Service was great and nothing to complain. Overall, not worth the drive if you are far from this place. Maybe OK to try if it falls on your way. read more

Haven't been here in almost 2 years and it feels like things have gone downhill in so many ways. Firstly, I'm mostly writing this review because of the lack of cleanliness. There are TONS of flies everywhere. I realize there's not much you can do if a few come in when the front doors open but there shouldn't be this many flies around my food when I'm trying to eat in the dining area. The amount was absurdly disgusting. I couldn't eat a single bite without having to wave my arm to shoo flies away. It's not only inconvenient but also unsanitary. When you enter the front of the restaurant, you're led into the area facing the bar and it's completely empty. Tables are used to store people's personal items in the open and most of the staff are in the dining room to the right of the entry so you could be waiting a while for someone to notice you and for you to get seated. Food is fine. Yes, it's Americanized but for what it is, it's good but salty. It feels like the portions have gotten smaller. The servers are hit or miss. One girl was lovely, she really made sure we were taken care of. Another guy just didn't want to be there and his behavior showed. Went here for lunch on Saturday and had a flavorful, delicious time. They had pork soup dumplings that I forced my mom to order with me. It was her first time trying them and I think her life changed for the better. Also had the chicken farmers dish with Chinese celery and eggplant in garlic sauce. The garlic sauce had excellent flavor and there was plenty to dip some chicken into it. I would say it was an authentic experience, as well. The food was prepared very well and you were only given chopsticks at the table (so my mom asked for a fork :/). On weekends they don't do the lunch menu which was fine but I will say the food was on the pricier side of things but still very good. I have ordered from this place for takeout several times. So this review is mostly for the takeout experience. It's great that you can customize the spice level. The 4/5 spice levels definitely have that numbing spice we love. My go-to dishes to order are the dan dan noodles and dry pepper fish along with random items. The golden Napa cabbage is a nice contrast to the other spicy menu items. The reason for the 3 stars is because the quality is always inconsistent for takeout. Sometimes it's great, sometimes it's not (Ex. more veggies than meat in a meat dish, too oily, portion size changes, etc). If it were more consistent, they would get a higher rating. There are two locations in Philly area, but we came to this one since it is in my brother-in-law's neighborhood. It is almost like a Chinese fusion style of cooking. We tried Crisp Spicy Cucumber as an appetizer not comes with too much spicy oil and no enough other flavor from chopped garlic. Not to my liking. The Soup Dumpling was just okay and the West Lake Beef Soup has too much corn starch. The Ginger Scallion Fish and Ginger Soy Chinese Broccoli were pretty good choices to try. I would highly recommend the DanDan Delicacy dish called Golden Bunapi Mushrooms. They used the duck yolk batter to coat the Bunapi mushrooms and lightly fried to crispy texture and garnished with red and green pepper slices. It came with a sweeter soy sauce. The xiao long bao came next and I was surprised that they were plump and bursting with sauce. I have been to many places where they overcook them and they ended up deflated but these were perfect. I love biang biang style noodles so I had to get the cumin lamb. It may.be quite spicy for the average american as it was topped with chili oil. I am a bit weak when it comes to spice but the noodles were delicious and flavorful. The Jing jiang dish came with rice and I forgot that it might have been better with pork. It is a more sweet and tangyish black bean sauced dish.
