Very disappointed with my first ever visit to Damburger today. I ordered a medium takeout order and the food portions were very small for the amount I paid. My bag of fries was about a quarter full and my burger was very small and looked like it was smashed. When I pay over 10 dollars for a meal I expect to be full after, but sadly this was not the case today. If you want to try a good old fashion burger place, try Dudes Drive In on Hartnell. The food is one thing and the service is another.. Last time I went and took my friends there for the first time, we received AWFUL service, i cannot stress AWFUL enough. The waitress gave us the WORST looks when we came in and sat down, after about 10 minutes of waiting she came to take our order and was extremely rude the way she asked if we wanted the "works" or the "original." FULL REVIEW: We have gone to Damburger on a couple occasions and I have to tell you, we were even more disappointed the second time. I guess I had hoped we just happened in the first time on an off day, but it appears the chaos that is lunch there is a perennial problem. The food is ok but nothing special to make this a destination worth seeking out and certainly not worth braving what has to be the strangest counter ordering system out there. Parking in the area is a nightmare. I suppose if I just happened to be walking by at lunchtime I might stop in again but that is unlikely. Unfortunately I would say this place is NOT handicap accessible. A small entrance and very crowded seating areas would make it impossible to negotiate. This is my hometown burger place and when I do make the trip home to visit family there is always a Damburger trip squeezed in. I've been coming here since I was a kid, and although I no longer eat meat they have a great vegetarian burger selection. Redding sucks so bad that this place should be on your list as a place to go. I enjoyed reading the story of the place printed on the back of the menu but really that's about it. The waitress asked me what I'd like and it turns out that a Dam Burger is Damn small! I ordered a Helen (named after a former customer) which has two small patties on a bun. She then asked if I'd like cheese and I said sure, what are my choices? She say's just 'regular'. I ask what's regular- she says, American. Visiting Redding and looking for a local burger place, so we stopped in. Bottom line, it is ok, nothing special. The burgers are basic not much on them, the meat is overcooked. The frys are nothing great, as they are just frozen run of the mill shoestrings. Service however is good and friendly. But, it does get a big YES for t the "Would I have been better off at In-n-Out?" test, since we both thought In-N-Out was much much better. We discovered this place by accident while driving around Redding. Asked some locals what they thought and were told it's a great place, so we tried it. Glad we did! Do not come here if you are on a diet! I have been coming to Redding for business for almost a year and pass by here everytime and said, "i want to go there." I had much higher expectations for this place. The double burger with cheese was tasty enough, but expensive for the size. The fries were okay. The shake (raspberry) was just alright (and also pricey). The staff was friendly and one of them gave me directions to a great dogpark that I will stop at whenever I'm driving through Redding with the dogs. But all in all, it was just okay. I have been going here for 40 years now and am still glad that they are still in town. It used to be a little place with seating for about 10 on bar stools and a line at the take-out window. The double-dam with cheese (original) is still the best IMO. Pricey yes, but full of history yes too. Favorite thing used to be when Marge was there, she knew what everyone ordered (she passed about 10 years ago). I would stop by once or twice a year and didn't even need to tell her my order as she already knew it. The current owner has been working there for about 30 years and his daughters are also working there now. Some of the tradition and taste went away when they took out the old grill and put in a new one. Also made a "works" burger something in the late 90's that allows you to have stuff like tomatoes on it. Great place to stop by. read more

Ok...this is an old, funky burger joint with over 75 years of history, there is Nothing new or shiny about it so start from there and you will be pleased.The burger boi and I were traipsing from Oregon back to Cali so we stopped here. ONE DAM GOOD BURGER!!! tasty burger spot in downtown Redding. it's in the old school downtown area, and the area while sometimes looks like a ghost town, has it's charm. burgers are oddly very THIN but very tasty. portions of onions and lettuce and other toppings are spot on. Overall a good burger. I would highly suggest the double to compensate for the thinness of the patties. The Shakes here are good too. I was in Redding for work for a whole week. I walked by this place many times, read the reviews and so I gave it a try. Over all the place looks its age, small diner style. I was alone so I sat at the counter to see how they run their joint. All the employees were female from my recollection and it seemed like a few to many people working. I believe there were 5 people working to run a small burger joint. My order was taken right away, I had a Damburger lunch special with an ice tea. The pros: It tasted great and it filled me up. I was there on lunch special time so my meal only cost me about $8. The cons: I had to ask for a refill on my drink. I was sitting right in front of the ladies working and I just think it's bad customer service to not refill drinks or at least ask. The overall: I liked the place and would only visit it on lunch special times. I think if they decreased the staff they could drop the prices a bit. But they must also not buy in enough bulk to get great prices. In this market place it is all about the price. read more

I love Damburger! It was the very first food joint I went to when I first moved to the Northstate and I still make a routine pilgrimage to the place. When I first saw it, it reminded me of a dive like from the Food Network show Diners, Drive-ines and Dives. They are the best burger place in Shasta County that I've tasted so far and it's much better to me than In N Out and I love that fast food joint too. I love the dam-burger (an extra * for an historic and local joint) competing against all the box giants. The fry sauce is the best and the burgers are unique, thin--- (so think double or triple) but very tasty. The fries are pretty standard, kids loved the shakes.
