Going to this store is like getting a taste of Japan without getting on a plane or even having to drive to Little Tokyo in downtown L.A. There are 4 main Tokyo stores that are often talked about: Daiso, Don Quijote, Hands, and Loft, and since the other 3 currently aren't available here, that leaves Daiso. There are so many cute things that even if I already have a similar item at home, I still wanted to buy their version just because it had a cute animal on it, like they had a box of plastic bags with zippers, but because it had cats on it I bought it anyway.  Another temptation is the prices. Most items cost around $2+. Looking at my receipt, the most expensive item was $8. The problem was that I bought so many things that added up quickly that my grand total was $100+. I only saw baskets that you have to carry around, I didn't see carts, which actually is a good thing because I probably would've ended up buying even way more! There are characters that we're familiar with like Sanrio and Disney, and lesser known but equally cute ones from San-X like Sumikko Gurashi and Corocoro Coronya. The food and snacks are also a mix of the familiar, like Pocky, and the unfamiliar. For the unfamiliar, I just grabbed what looked good in the photo on the packaging and when I got home used Google Translate Image to read what I bought. Daiso does try to be good and put at least one sticker saying in English what the thing is, but it's still fun to see what the rest of the packaging says.  I went in late September, so they had some Halloween items. I want to come back now whenever the holiday or season changes just to see what new items they have in stock...And to save my money because apparently, I have little self control.

Possibly the nicest new Daiso location I've had the pleasure of stopping in. I haven't been to many, so I let my friend Ryan who grew up in Japan for a good portion of his life guide me through this amazing store, "Where Japanese quality meet American value" :D The selection of goods is very vast, a variety of household items, home goods, personal care items, novelty things, food, beverages, electronics, you name and they've got quite a bit of it. The prices are stellar... I didn't plan for anything, but am planning for plenty next time. They have some really cool art and office supplies I see myself purchasing in the not to distant future. Customer service was above and beyond fantastic during my first stop in and the self checkout kiosk I used was overseen by the kindest Daiso team member. Of course I saw many things on our way out I didn't see before. Plenty to take in and explore. Located next to Five Below and The Beautique salon, diagonal from the Regal theater. There's limited parking in front of the store, but a huge parking structure just past it for NoHo West. Open as early as 9am until 9pm Monday through Saturday and 10am to 8pm Sundays only.

Upon entering I was surprised you have to go up an escalator to even enter the store, And it's a little weird layout because when you pay it's all the way in the back of the store forcing you to walk all the way back to the front to go back down the escalators to leave. I guess I'm behind in the times because I thought Burlington is supposed to be Burlington coat factory. In the old days when I went to a Burlington it was full of coats galore. I learned today that's not the case anymore, at least not at this location. It seems to be a mix of Ross and Home Goods but with slimmer pickings. If you are looking for Blazers, they have ALLOT of blazers in every colorful color you can think of. Although I didn't find a jacket, in fact the pickings are slim to none on jackets, I did actually find 2 name brand and good quality sweaters for only 10 each. On my way out, I was going down the escalators when a male started coming behind me quickly and stopped behind me. He was too close and I said whoa, he said excuse me and I was really uncomfortable. There's a security gaurd at the bottom by the door but there is a huge white pole obstructing the view from the doors and security while you're on the escalator. The guy was acting shady so close to me and I was prepared to scream for help. I went fast down the escalator to get off and then he hung back but asked me if he can ask me a question and I said no I don't answer questions and I quickly went through the security. The shady guy did not follow me out and stayed inside and he looked like he went back up the escalator. I don't know if I misread the situation or not, and I rushed out so quick but in hindsight maybe I should have alerted security but I wanted to get away as fast as possible. Anyways, if you are going to visit this location be careful and aware of your surroundings. I think the security should stand in a better position that he can see both the door and the escalators.
