Daiso sells inexpensive, super cute things that I never knew I needed. Like that dish sponge that looks like a frog, or the flowerpot that looks like a panda, or the dust cleaning thing that looks like a hedgehog, or the correction tape that looks like a penguin. Everything is a $1.50, unless it has a sticker that says otherwise. It's hard to walk out of the store without buying something. Why must everything be so cute??? Worst Daiso I've been to out of this, Daly City, and SF proper (both on Market St. and in Japantown). We happened to be in the area and I needed to pick up a few household items, so we stopped in instead of going all the way up to the Daly City location which is typically awesome for odd job items for cheap. It's a huge store, but what was ridiculous was that at least 1/3 of the shelves were pretty much unused. I was looking for baskets, tupperware and a catchment drain. All of these have been regularly locatable at the Daly City and SF locations. Half the store looked ransacked and a ton of shelves were empty or sparsely stocked. The tupperware was not there, period. They had about 1/3 the stock of baskets that the Daly City one did, and they were all in tacky fluorescent colors. I asked the woman stocking if there were more and she said whatever was out was all they had left. I could also swear the prices have gone up since the last time I went to one of these (half a year ago?). If this is your neighborhood Daiso, great, it also comes with a ton of Asian restaurants and a Japanese supermarket as part of the package deal for this shopping plaza. If you live closer to another Daiso, go to that other one -- this one was disappointing and I would not drive out of the way for it. read more

I've been in LOVE with Daiso since I was in Taiwan!! I was so glad to find out they have Daiso in Cupertino so I could go when I visited my family there! The store is a bit smaller than the stores in Taiwan, but they still have lots of cute and useful products for a cheap price! (Most items are $1.5 each, some are a bit higher like $3, $4, etc). We spent some time walking around the store and found some interesting and cute stuff!!! And we bought so much stuff but it turned out really cheap when we checked out. Daiso is basically a Japanese dollar store, but the prices are $1.50 on all items unless otherwise marked (which are generally $2-$5). Overall, the store itself isn't too big, but they have a little bit of just about everything you can think of, from chinaware to stationary to makeup and household supplies. Don't expect much in terms of variety or quality (most things seem to be made of relatively cheap plastic). But, the stationary and art supplies are pretty decent, as they even have some cute washi tape and a ton of pen/pencil selection. They also have a small selection of Japanese snacks and drinks, but variety is limited and some things you can get at other Asian supermarkets anyways. One thing to note is that they don't do exchanges or refunds. Once you buy something, you can't bring it back, so just keep that in mind. $5 minimum for credit card. read more

My Wonderland ! There is so much fun at this Daiso- besides getting a dose of Anime Techno Beat blasting on their speakers - it's an shop with endless ANYTHING !!! So here's what I tell myself before coming here , "I'm just getting ziplock bags and leave." and give myself a strict budget limit of $5. Enter the store, I even hesitate to get a basket because if I do... then $5 turns into $15 or $25. From different size packing supplies, kites, MAKEUP, stationery... ceramic kitties, gardening, pet toys.... $1.50 jewelry.... Like, "hey, I can use this at home!" ... as clutter. Lol I bought my house broom here and a few of my eyebrow liners are from Daiso. EVERYTHING except fresh meat and veggies. The staff here is sooooo friendly and helpful. So here's the catch, it's in a strip mall next to a Japanese supermarket and a few other restaurants. Parking has never been an issue BUT I have often found it tricky driving along other motorists especially parking !!! So be careful driving around the strip, motorists here seem to think their legs will stop working after walking 10 feet from their car. Back to Daiso - famous for cheap Japanese goodies. Their items are well-stocked and organized ! This place is spic-n-span no matter what time or day I have come by. Their checkout staff are also friendly ! They never rush you and they move quick. I park slightly away from crowd to avoid someone dinging my car or not waiting for me to pull out of my spot sufficiently. I'm pretty sure that I am the last Asian person to hear about Daiso. It's basically an Asian dollar store, with an emphasis on household items. I saw a lot of cute cups and dishes, etc. And I liked how they had cute stuff for baking. This place is really big with a lot of pens and folders and things to organize as well. I heart Daiso! And this is the best Daiso I've been to. It's organized and well-stocked. You can find things you need from all areas of your life for very low prices. And amazingly, low prices can equate to high quality here. There are very unique designs and good quality (sometimes even established brands) products at rock bottom prices. I love their kitchen/baking section. You can find kitchen stuff unavailable in stores like Williams Sonoma and Sur La Table. I was looking for Financier molds and was pleasantly surprised to bump into some disposable aluminum ones here... Good for getting equipment to try out specialty recipes that you may cook just once or twice. I love their snacks section as well. Haven't seen them for awhile, but the salty fried glutinous rice crackers were super addictive. It's inspiring to shop here because the tools, designs and uses that people come up with make my creative juices flow. I've always been a huge fan of Daiso ever since I found out about it a few years ago. Their prices are incredible and sometimes mind-blowing. I can't believe the stuff they have there for $1. I mean, some things are not the best quality obviously, but most of the stuff I buy there anyway are things I don't expect nor care if it's high-quality. They have the most random things here, from gift wrapping to flip flops to snacks to lunchboxes to kitchen utensils to neck pillows, etc etc etc. This specific location is super organized and clean. This is a great store when looking for cheap cute household items. They sell everything from underwear to candy to dishware. I like to buy the mini plastic food containers, lunch boxes, and laundry garnet bags. Each of these items are $1.50, which I think is a steal. Everything is really cute in the store so beware. Okay, don't judge me, but I've spent over $100 after visiting Daiso 3 times in 2 weeks. I love to organize and I've recently started doing my home improvement projects. This is a good Daiso Japan store, which is a chain located from what I know and have gone to, in parts of Nor Cal and So Cal. This is one of the smaller locations, and maybe because I went on a winter late afternoon, it seemed dimly lit, and not as vibrant as the ones in the So Cal South Bay areas that I've visited in Torrance and Gardena, both of which also has larger inventory selection too. But regardless of that, those are in So Cal, so for what's in front of us here, it's a good store. The quality is good and pricing is fair. It's often times a step above the "99 Only Stores" or "Dollar Tree" and "Big Lots" and you'll find some cool ethnic Asian knick knack novelties here too. They have staple good, lots of kitchen type stuff for good starter home / disposable function pricing too. Parking is somewhat easy since it's in Nor Cal's suburbia of the South Bay, and has a lot. This is store is tucked in the same plaza as Marukai and Elephant Bar. The store is way bigger than the Eastridge location. They are heaven for finding neat Japanese stuff. Many of the products are made in China but Japanese inspired. I've had tons of "good finds" in this store. Talking to a pal about my Secret Santa for the Elite event...she said... Oh you should go to Daiso...lots of stuff under the $10 limit. Hence why I walked into this place at 5pm on a Friday looking for sushi paraphenalia for my lucky recipient. Overkill. How do you find anything in this place? I could easily use this place for some OCD therapy, you know confront what you most fear kind of thing haha as in death by falling robotic Japanese items. Anyway, this place was fun. Like a kid in a candy store, I managed to find what I needed and a few more items. The only downer was when I went to get in line with my stuff. The gal who was working the cash register decided to take a break and not tell anyone, esp not those in the line waiting for her. She just wandered off texting on her cell phone. Ohhkay. So I make to turn and go into the other line, my hip catching this precariously balanced clay pot stand advertising $3.00 sale. Of course one was already teetering on the edge, probably from 4 other customers before me doing this as well...so my move sent it crashing to the floor. As the irritated cell-phone-texter-cash-register-gal cleaned it up, she said 'Since you broke it do you want to buy it'...?? WTF! I said 'No it shouldn't be balanced in the middle of the friggin cash register lane waiting for people to knock it over'. Plus...what do you do with a broken $3 soup clay pot? She didn't argue, just headed off silently...texting yet again. 15 minute wait in the long line for the one-lone-register that was left. $15 purchase. This place WAS fun. But I won't be rushing back. Not every Daiso location is the same. The kitchen sponge selection is much worse at the Mountain View location. I haven't seen the cake kitchen sponges for months now (they probably sold out) and they didn't have them here in Cupertino. Their kitchen sponge selection was good but I didn't see any new sponges. They still had the smiling fruit and teapot sponges, as well as animal shaped sponges. I was also looking for cute bandages but they only had plain bandages. You have to love the variety that Daiso offers with most items priced at $1.50. Other things you can find here include Japanese fabric curtains ($4), bowls, teacups, soy sauce dispensers, serving trays, aprons, chopsticks, air fresheners, candy ($1.50 a bag), Pocky, rice molds, plastic containers, scarves, cosmetics, picture frames, pens, notebooks, letter sets, stickers, gift wrap, gift bags, fake flowers, dog toys, wooden toys, mailing supplies, incense, toothbrushes, soap, glass marbles, mouse pads, ties, belts, tee-shirts, ear plugs, garden supplies, Xmas decorations, Japanese CDs, and hanging coconut shells. I actually wanted to swing by here the other day but had to wait because I had the misfortune of losing my keys. Yea. My damn keys. If you knew me, you'd know I lose my keys just about every day. Usually they're in one of their many spots: on the ground, in a shoe, in the hamper, in a dvd case, in a shoe box, on the counter, on the ground next to the counter, some place like that. But no, this specific time, they were in no special place, just hiding like the sneaky things they are! Damnit. So I waited to go to Daiso and when I did, I was not disappointed. Homeboy, Joon Y. was raving about Daiso, which is essentially a Japanese store of random goodies for cheap. I didn't know what to expect but when I walked in I was blown away!! I seriously didn't even know where to start - if you saw me that day, you would have noticed I had no specific plan, I literally walked back and forth, up and down, side to side, diagonally, just looking. I felt like an idiot just walking in circles, thinking, what do I want? I didn't even know, I just felt like I had to get SOMETHING. That's the only downside to these types of stores - you don't really need anything, but you just have to buy something anyway because it's so cheap! They had rows and rows of stuff like Japanese tableware (sake sets, cups, chopsticks, chopstick resters - so cute yet, so pointless), toys, pens/pencils, art supplies, makeup, makeup accessories, shoes, pillows, figurines, a limited selection of snacks and others. LOTS of others. Each wall was covered with items just waiting to be explored. In the end, I picked up a mirror (what girl doesn't need an extra one!) and a car freshener. After shopping next door at Marukai, we mosey-ed on in to check out what's inside. A large store, carrying all sorts of items for personal care, home and kitchen, toy's, stationery, dry food, drinks. Like Ichiban Kan, only larger. My youngest daughter was with us, and every few minutes I can hear her shout out "oh, so cute!" every time she sees something with Hello Kitty or Pokemon. My older daughter wasn't with us this time, but she would have like the Nintendo DS accessories, pencil cases, erasers, and Japanese gum. A lot of inexpensive items priced at $1.50. I am a Daiso addict, and I've been shopping here since the store first opened. I got here today around 10:30AM, and there were plenty of shoppers. There was one cashier, and she kept getting on the intercom to call for an additional cashier. After her third time on the intercom, a second cashier appeared. For $16.31, I bought: Dishwashing net sponges (7 per pack) Lined notebook Pleather lanyard Two metal bookends A sheet of glitter design stickers Two large floor mats/rugs Everything above was $1.50 apiece, except for the large floor mats/rugs, which were $3 each. I saw that the cosmetics and false eyelashes were made in China and Korea. The facial oil-blotting papers were made in Japan. There were lots of Minnie Mouse and Mickey Mouse stickers in boxed sets. I didn't see any stickers of my favorite, which is Winnie the Pooh. I saw one gallon Crystal Geyser bottled water for $1 each (near the cash registers). The employees talked to each other a lot, but when customers approached, they were quick to answer questions and locate items. My cashier was friendly, and she mentioned that they generally get a huge rush at 10AM and again right before they close. I appreciated that she was patient with a senior citizen who had trouble reading the instructions on the screen after he swiped his credit card. She assisted him when he couldn't see which button he was supposed to push to get the transaction to go through. She thanked me for shopping at Daiso, and smiled at all the customers. In the same shopping center as Marukai, Potsticker King, and Elephant Bar, plus numerous other businesses. Pretty much an identical smaller twin to the Daiso in Mountain View and Union City. They got some killer deals! Most starting from $1.50 to $3.00. (Some items are a little more) You can find some of the most useful things here such as the Japanese version of the Magic Eraser, which is a lot cheaper than the American brand. The store doesn't look quite finished and looks like it was thrown into the former Longs Store location. It just doesn't feel as organized. Daiso = Japanese version of Dollar Tree except everything is 10x cuter and more random. When I went to Japan, I went to Daiso almost everyday to pick up basic necessities from toiletries to kitchenware to stationary and random cute junk I keep convincing myself I'd need for just 100yen. Here in the States, same story except its $1.50 an item (unless marked otherwise). Honestly, I never really need anything from here, but it's just so fun to browse and take home a little thing here and there for fun. Notable stuff: - Bento accessories: They have a lavish selection of lunch boxes, chopsticks, forks, spoons, minature sauce bottles, paper cups, sandwich cutters, etc. just to arrange the perfect lunch box. So fun to browse through and even more fun to use! - Kitchen Ware: mini pots & pans, bakeware, dishes, cups, bowls, lids, mugs, strainers, trash cans, knives, ladles, squeeze bottles, soy sauce containers... you name it, they got it. Every time I browse through this section, I dream about my future kitchen and how I'm going to save a bundle by buying all these cute but practical kitchen accessories from Daiso. - Funny Gag Items: Pee Target - that's right. it's exactly what it sounds like. They sell this target dot-thingy you can stick in the toilet and guys can practice their aim. It changes color when it comes in contact with pee. LOL! Inflatable Boobies - OMG, we bought this for a fashion show and had an idea to have the guys come out after and wear them with vietnamese dresses (ao dai)! Hilarious! Perfect for a drag queen-esque talent show or prank of some sort. Just walk though Daiso and I guarantee you that you'll find some pretty interesting (if not hilarious or strangely practical) items to add to your junk dresser. Daiso is such a wonderful store for buying convenient and fun things. Anything from decorations to candy to school supplies to kitchen supplies to bathroom supplies to clothing to etc. etc.! Many of their items are only $1.50 unless otherwise stated and the quality of the products is really good. I've bought a lot of cool things here like a bear piggy bank, pencil holders, a whiteboard, silicon DS cover, and more. There are always new stuff coming in and it's one of the few stores I can have fun in just looking at things. The atmosphere is bright and service is always nice. And, for you organization freaks, the aisles at the back of the store (on the left) have an amazing array of containers! As wonderful as Daiso is, it is a bit of a letdown to see that more and more products in this Japanese store are made in China. Sadly, the more crummy stuff from China Daiso carries, the more it resembles one of those shabby 99-cent stores. Sometimes fads go through here on their way up the bay area, like vietnamese sandwiches and boba/tapioca/pearl/bubble milk tea. And sometimes the trends work their way south. Like tart frozen yogurt, Beard Papa, and Daiso. Luckily you can find all three in the same strip mall. Everything is $1.50 in this store unless marked otherwise. And there are a lot of "otherwise" things in here. To sum up, think about it like an Asian knick-knack $1 store. You can find all sorts of random things from packs of origami paper, bento boxes, kitchen utensils, slippers, little clay renditions of Easter Island, $8 PVC "yoga" mat, door screens, shower curtains, make-up kits, pottery, to t-shirts. And as some have pointed out, a lot of the items are not "Made In Japan". Look a little more left on the world map. But everything is just so "kawaii", in pastels, and have either kanji or messed up English on them, that exactly where it was manufactured won't matter anyway. read more

I normally would like the place a lot. It's not every day you can find cheap stuff that are adequately usable. The place fulfills many of our needs without costing much. To that I appreciated the store. The major flaw, is their service. Earlier today my daughter bought a silicon-tipped pen for her iPhone. We tried it on several phones at home and found it only worked half the time. When we brought it back the clerk stuck with the "no returns, no exchange" policy. I understand they want to discourage people from exhibiting buyers remorse. But this is for a defective item! He even tried to challenge us by demonstrating on his phone, with the intention shame us! Guess what, it didn't work on his phone either. When asked for a manager there wasn't one around. No apologies, no intent to resolve anything, no manners, no customer service. I've been here a few times, so I figured I should finally get around to writing a review! This location is quite a bit smaller than the Daly City location, (which was the first Daiso I had been to.) Although,they still have pretty much anything someone could want! I've bought a few scarves and headbands from here. I needed something to keep the copious amounts of sweat off my face while working out, but I didn't want to spend too much on something that has a future being soaked in sweat. Also, if they didn't fit right or whatever, I didn't want to blow much money on them. I ended up being very pleased with them, and I've been back to buy more. I also really appreciate the small kitchen items they sell. Like peelers for example, you never know if one will work well until you use it. For $1.50, I can rationalize buying it, and if I hate it, I don't feel too bad about tossing it...Or leaving it in the drawer never to see the light of day again... All in all, this is a GREAT addition to the area, and I will continue to shop there...(Or at least wander around marveling at all the interesting things I have no use for.) read more

Within five minutes, I am ready to smack everyone out of the way with the shopping basket. It's just not because the aisles are small, things are jam packed and the sheer amount of people inside the store, it's the rudeness. Where are your manners? If you bump into someone, mumble a polite apology. Don't just rush over to whatever the fuck that sparked your interest, it ain't going anywhere anytime soon. This place reminds me of the ultimate consumerist society we live in (http://www.storyofstuff.com/ sums it up nicely). Aisles and aisles of plastic and flimsy items have me wondering how they are going to be disposed of or recycled. Sure, the items are cheap and some of them very useful for the short run. Like every dollar store, the quality is suspect. It's most likely going to be used only a few times before being shipped to the landfills. Two stars for Daiso because I did find useful things: notions (bias tape and elastic bands), insoles and a knickknack organizer. However, this is not a store that I would visit again. p.s. Don't buy the bias tape. It's less than paper thin and unusable. read more
