I stopped by this Dairy Queen to use my TMobile Tuesday code on the blizzard. This location is near where my work office is so it made sense for me. This is only my second time at a DQ, my first time was at the one inside Northridge Mall. I placed my order off the mobile app. To use the deal on the Blizzard I had to buy something else first, so I got a bag of Lays chips since that was the cheapest item. I found parking just fine in the plaza this store is located in, there was a 45min parking spot. When I walked inside, they were not busy at all so I just give the lady the name of my order. She handed it to me and I ate some of it inside of the store. I thought it was good and better to eat when it's fresh. Customer service was great when I was here. The Orange Julius® Original was just as we remembered, from almost 30+ years ago. Previous locations (which have also since closed) that we've tried were not as flavorful and the Orange Julius® Original felt like it was all ice but here, it was all perfectly balanced! The taste of the orange was the perfect amount, not overpowering but also not an afterthought, very flavorful. We only wish that we lived closer and could order Orange Julius® Original anytime we wanted. I've been to a lot of divey ones over the years, personally. This one in a large local shopping plaza in western Simi Valley earns a "Meh" rating from Dear Hubby and me. There's not much charm to it. The staff we encountered was young and not well-trained in customer service. A male and female employee displayed the minimum effort. We weren't greeted when we entered. It's a small thing, but it sets a tone from the start of the visit. The young girl just stood at the cash register with her hand poised over the keys as if to say, "I'm ready, what do you want?". Um, how about a smile, a "Hi, what may I get for you?" Something. Anything! She wasn't rude, just pretty clueless of how you interact with customers. Forgive me if this may be a rhetorical question for those of us born before smartphones and texting (oy! showing my age) - but is this GenZ group incapable of interaction that doesn't involve looking at a small digital screen? I had been craving a chocolate dipped cone after coming from a disappointing stop at the car dealership to check on the repair of our car. The DQ cone was just okay. The chocolate dip barely tasted like chocolate. Chocolate-flavor-lite? It wasn't really what my tastebuds were craving or expecting. Ultimately, I spent time, money, and calories on a very underwhelming venue. Dear Hubby fared slightly better with his banana shake. He said it had fresh fruit in it, but otherwise wasn't remarkable. Tonight they were completely uninterested in preparing the order correctly. The music was blaring so loud in the back room and they were un able to hear the customers speaking to them. instead of dipping the ice cream in the chocolate they scooped a dribble from the pot of chocolate and it was not even enough to cover the top of the ice cream in the dish. really sad. Black man walking in with my 5 year daughter after her long day at kindergarten, we place simple order for one small vanilla cone and one medium vanilla cone. We order, we pay, we find a table to sit at. An older white woman walks in with two girls around the same age as my kid. They order, they pay, and they get their order RIGHT AWAY. By now, my daughter is asking me where her ice cream is at because, I know she observed the same thing I did. It wasn't until I stood at the counter that we finally got our two cones. Once a year I treat myself to a dipped cone and today was the day. But apparently, it was the wrong day. A very young man was servicing the counter and I'm telling you he was wildly undertrained. The medium vanilla cone dipped in chocolate was $4.17. I told him to keep the change and put it in the tip cup. He was baffled by the subtraction of $5.00 - $4.17 and only used dimes. The manager came over and helped him count the change again, dropping the coins into his hand. No explanation on how to give change, she just does the work for him. The boy looked sooooo confused. OMG!!!! How can a teenager not be able to do this simple math? What is happening in our schools? I figured I'd get a decent-sized cone with the tip I gave. The boy goes over to the machine and doesn't really know how to operate it. He loads up about 2" of ice cream onto the cone. Then he dips it in chocolate and hands it to me with chocolate dripping down the cone and onto my hands. I ask, "Is this a medium?" He says yes and asks if I want more ice cream. Well, it's not possible now that he's dipped it. I figure I might as well forego the calories and walk away from the counter to go cry in my car because the human race is becoming sooooo dumb. What could have been a 30-minute quickie ended up being a 60-minute ordeal, making us very late for our 6-hour drive home. There are more Dairy Queens in SoCal than I expected. Not a clean table to be found and there were dirty napkins and plastic lids on the floor. It was so awful we did not want to sit inside.
