I was truly happy to see this place after being on the road for hours. The trip from Bend to Ontario is no joke and when we finally came upon this DQ, my wife and I were super stoked. Everything else after that was eh, so so. For starters, apparently they had just ran out of bananas which meant my favorite banana split was not an option. Brownies were also out of commission, as were anything strawberry. Hmmm. I finally settled on a small chocolate cheesecake blizzard. Honestly, the blizzard was really good but I was a bit upset that I had to settle on my decision due to this establishment having limited options. Amazing location, right off the road if you are simply getting through town. I'm so disappointed..We ordered chicken strip baskets, and what we got in return was lukewarm chicken, soggy greasy fries, and a very small portion of them, and no toast. Service was poor. This place has horrible service, the staff allow people that don't work there to go behind the counter and I was here with my children who are under 10 years old and the girl with the purple hair was cussing non stop making me and my children uncomfortable, she repeatedly told her coworkers to F off and other foul language, and they all played some inappropriate music this is unacceptable and unprofessional and shouldn't be said in a place of work that has children constantly in and out of here, I will not be coming back here until the girl is fired or set in her place, and I'll make sure my friends with children know about the foul behavior. read more

If you're desperate for food and think a DQ in Burns can match your expectations, think again. Chicken strips were overdone and chewy, and my burger was so overdone it was practically warm beef jerky. Our family tried to make use of the restrooms before leaving. Fun! The women's was just dirty. The men's room was a Health hazard, with urine and feces smeared across the floor. Add paper towels instead of the hand dryer. Okay. After many hours of driving through anything but a scenic wonderland we stopped at DQ because it was close to the road and we were starving. We decided our best best would be the beer battered fresh caught fish filet sandwich--- not sure what happened to the fresh caught part, maybe the refrigeration went out on the slow train, because there was something fishy about our filet. This place is where you should go only if you truly hate yourself or if you are seeking a comedically bad customer service experience. They are never fully stocked. Never. Nearly a year ago, my wife and I got green, fuzzy, moldy hamburgers. It was so disgusting. I had wolfed mine down like a pig before I noticed it tasted really off. Then, my wife looked at hers, which was an unsightly mess nothing like the picture, and pointed out that it was moldy. Super, duper moldy. Not too long after, we decided to give it another shot. We went there for ice cream since it doesn't mold. On that particular occasion, they were out of ice cream. How in Oden's Raven does a DQ forget to stock ice cream? Is the manager just super forgetful? Tonight, when we went by, their fryer was busted. That was fine since we know to avoid the food at all cost. But, the price of a small cone had me worried about runaway inflation and the destabilization of our currency. How could small vanilla cones be this much? Perhaps it had something to do with the ice cream shortage from last time? "Oh no," we thought, "it's an ice cream shortage! Our favorite milk-based, chilled treat is going extinct!" To be fair, they were good enough to warn everyone about the lack of fried stuff tonight with a page-long essay in 12-point font posted just beyond the ordering kiosk. In order to read it we had to pull past the point that staff and customers could communicate though. We had to strain our hearing to learn that the credit card machine was down too. If that was my DQ, I'd get the ol' girl into the shop for a service inspection because it seems like it's held together with bubblegum and old bandaids. Speaking of old bandaids... I think this DQ is what you would likely find somewhere in the outer rings of the long descent into Hell. Even if you have a strong sense of irony or if you happen to lack taste buds and seek food only as a means of survival, there are better options. For example, muddy sticks served in a hubcap by a deranged hobo might be safer, and more likely to be in stock at a reasonable price. The hobo might give you more than 5 twigs too, unlike the fry count served with most meals here. For crying out loud, stop slighting people on potatoes and fresh buns! Despite the foregoing, I give one star. I do this because they repainted the outside a year or two ago and it makes passing by at high rate of speed a visually pleasing experience. read more

I wish I could rate this DQ higher. Both of the problems I'll mention show a need for better management. First is the staff working the front counter. The person who helped us, victoria, should NOT be allowed to interact with customers. The counter person must be one of the best, most personable employees there. However, victoria was downright surly to me. She was rude to us and has the most terrible demeanor. Seriously, zero customer service skills. I wouldn't hire her for a second. Second, and this may have just been more of Victoria's poor people skills, I was dissatisfied with the medium hot fudge sundae she handed to me. (Yes, she made this herself.) I got what looked liked half of a serving of plain vanilla ice cream. I asked her to put on the hot fudge. She said, crabbily, "It's right THERE!" I turned it around and there was a squirt of chocolate in one section of the cup. I asked if that was all that came with a medium sundae." Victoria rolled her eyes and said "A medium gets one pump," as if this was common knowledge. By this time the other employees were starting to look at what was going on at the front counter. I got the impression that this was a family employee, or somehow entitled. I then asked for a second pump and victoria rolled her eyes and said "that will be 75 cents." I told her never mind. I did not care to patronize that store any more than I already did. Whether the issue with the sundae was victoria being stingy or truly a company policy doesn't matter. The point is that one employee who requires both training and discipline drove away my family, and we have been coming here for years. Manager, I hope you see that there are problems that need addressing. The employees there could take lessons from the DQ employees in Boise (esp on Boise Avenue), who are super friendly and know how to work with people. read more

Did their help wanted sign ask specifically for lazy morons to apply or did all that happen accidentally? We waited nearly 20 minutes for two small blizzards and a chocolate shake. There were seven employees, no other customers in the store, and a small drive thru line with two or three cars in it. Literally employees were standing doing nothing while others worked on the drive thru orders. We finally got our ice cream only to discover that the bottom two-thirds was all ice cream and no mix ins. When we left a line of about 10-12 people had formed behind us. Paid $9 for a burger/fry/soda. Burger was the opposite of "hot and juicy". I don't know when they cook the burgers but they serve them cold and dry. They got the order wrong (not unusual) even though I was the only one in the restaurant. I've eaten in that DQ for over 45 years - it's definitely not improving with age. read more

My experience at this DQ was not good. Granted, I went in at a very busy time (Memorial Day Weekend) and upon entering the restaurant there were 4 or 5 people waiting for their orders already. I was just ordering a dipped cone and a sundae so figured I would be out quickly being I hadn't ordered food. I ended up waiting for a half hour and still hadn't received my ice cream. I left after telling the staff it was unacceptable as I was traveling and needed to get back on the road. There were 5 or 6 staff on duty but they were busy filling ice trays, stocking cups, etc. and not filling orders. The ice cream machine was not being used and should have been constantly putting out product for customers. Seems this restaurant is very poorly managed as the crew were not efficient at filling orders. I left without receiving my order but paid for it. Poor experience and I won't be back even though I travel through Burns often. read more
