Large variety of draft beer; a pint is $4.75 while a mixed drink was $5.25. Cowboy burger absolutely delicious! 10 out of 10! The onion rings were also perfectly breaded, nice flavor. We were driving through from Eugene, OR to Boise, ID and was recommended to go to the Central Pastime by a local resident at a store!!! I'm sooooo grateful for this ABSOLUTELY delicious recommendation!!! We ordered the rib eye steak dinner and blue cheese burger and we each had a drink!!! We went to the burns area to enjoy the hot springs. We then decided to have lunch , we went to central pastime for burgers and beers. We were scolded when ordering she wouldn't tell us what kind of beer they had she just pointed to the taps. It was ridiculous I've never been treated so poorly! Until of course it was time to pay. Sorry gals I don't tip for bad behaviour. I have several friends in the burns/Hines area and the people in town are usually so kind. We then went to a cpl stores where we shared our experience, thinking it was because we were out of towners. The 2 stores and the hotel we visited all Said oh I'm sorry, but that's kind of their thing. SAD why would you want to be known for being a asshole SMH. As far as the food, its really irrelevant. Central Pastime is THE local bar in Burns and a fun place to hang out! There were four of us and we each had something different from the menu and it was all good bar food but those onion rings are AMAZING! The only reason for less than 5 stars is the service. It should probably be a little lower but I'm hoping she just was having personal issues that she brought to work. When your entire party feels like the server hates you, there's a problem! My mom was having a hard time deciding and our server was visibly upset about it saying she had other customers. She was "visibly upset" with all customers though so not just us! Well if you are staying in Burns, Oregon. There is not a lot of choices. We tried to stop at the Mexican restaurant next door. It was Saturday night and they had only one waitress working the whole restaurant. So we decided to move next door to The Central Pastime tavern. It was not busy. It took 10 minutes or so to get anyone to acknowledge us and give us menus. Servers would walk past us like we didn't exist. If you had a feeling that someone hated you for no reason, well we got that feeling here. Like we were inconveniencing them for wanting to eat. Menu advertised 12 beers on tap. When I asked what they were they only could name 6. There was an advertisement for broasted chicken. So I decided to try it. The chicken was fried way too long. It tasted like old oil. If I finished the meal I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have felt good afterward. One of the folks in our party ordered a Manhattan. For the rest of the evening he seemed to get the brunt of our servers angst. One time she came to ask how things were. She didn't stop or make eye contact. She just kept walking straight to the bathroom ignoring our responses to her question. It also turns out the person serving us was probably the owner. At some point I just kept quiet to avoid getting their ire. I will say, if you can put up with the attitude and flip a little back, they seemed to take it in stride. On a side note. The pizza here is really good. If you come in with low expectations for service, keep your drinks simple, and stick with the pizza. You'll probably be fine. Stopped in with a group of about 35... it's a story! Taking a star away only because the initial phone call almost sent me packing. My group was supposed to eat at another restaurant in Burns, but it was closed when we showed up during their posted business hours, and I'd called a week in advance to confirm our timing. The good. Live country music while dining! The Combo pizza! The organization - when we walked in, the staff had reserved tables for all of us and other tables to lay out the pizza, plates and drinks. Pitchers full of ice water and cups were delivered as soon as we walked in. The dining area was clean and orderly. The cook. She came out to talk with us for a few minutes and was great. The meh Went through a long list of calls to find an open dining room after 9pm in Burns. Central Pastime answered the phone. When I told them I had 30 people, I was told, literally... "We can't do that. Go Fish." But then... she asked if we were firefighters, I said, no we're a group of youth looking for a place to eat because the other place closed early. She asked if we would eat pizza... and then said to come on down. The service was a curt, but it looked like simple survival to me. Limited staff serving a busy place all worked. We had everything we needed. The pepperoni. Nothing fancy. Lots of cheese. The cheese. Honestly, can cheese pizza be anything but average? The bad. Nothing here. read more

This was the second visit for breakfast. Both times rewarded us with a very good breakfast at extremely reasonable prices. The place was pretty busy but the owner was behind the bar and she took great care of our group of six! Her pleasant and entertaining demeanor was very welcome! We sat at the bar and had a good view of the kitchen. Although they were short staffed, the owner and her cook make quick work of our orders! The food came out quickly and piping hot, every order perfectly executed. The breakfast steak was excellent (much better than what I had at the Pine Room for far less money) and was served quickly. I know breakfast is usually a fairly easy meal but to have it made exceptionally well and this quickly is a real treat! And for value, well this place is an absolute bargain! Great place on a Saturday at 8:00pm for a meal and some fun. Jess was on top of it when we walked in. We sat by the pool table because our 10 year old daughter wanted to play. We had drinks and quarters for the table in a couple seconds. Then we ordered food while a local lady asked to teach my daughter something about how to play pool. And she did. Even let her use a very expensive pool cue. Our food was great. Fresh and hand made. Drinks are well made.Jess was busy and kept up on everything. Bathrooms and dining/bar area very well kept. I had the chef salad, presentation was making me wonder why but it was fresh, delicious, the ham and turkey tasted fresh, and it was very filling. During my first time in Burns, I asked a local for her restaurant recommendation. Without hesitation she said "Central Pastime Tavern". While the exterior is nothing special, the interior is clean, well-appointed and very welcoming. Central Pastime has a scratch kitchen -- virtually everything is made in the kitchen (chili, ground beef, onion rings, etc) and everything that I had was delicious. Prices are very good for the quality and quantity that I received and the wait staff was very friendly and talkative. Patty, the owner, is kind and inviting. She describes her place as a dive bar, which it is, but I'd also argue it is a fantastic family restaurant. We have two kids - the kids menu is $2 per entree! The adult menu is filled with bar inspired food but all made homemade, in house. The burgers and steak are high quality meat that you can't find anywhere for the prices charged. Homemade onion rings are not to be missed. A plethora of local beers on draft for $4 or less. We came here because the mexican place next door was closed, we instantly regretted it and almost walked out. We sat for almost 15 minutes before we got our menus When she brought them I had manners I said hi and thank you and she didnt respond back.45 minutes to get a hamburger and sloppy joe sandwich. The server did not come and check on us after we got our food and we had to ask for our check after waiting another 15 minutes. The couple next to us said to us "if your not from here or a regular, obviously you dont matter" they did get up and walk out. My mom and I stopped in for lunch while driving to Boise. My mom is very specific about how she likes a Reuben sandwich and is often disappointed. The one here was the best she's ever had. We stopped in here on our way through town not long ago, there wasn't much open so we settled on eating here. I kind of got the feeling it is only serve the locals only type place. Even if you give them a friendly smile, or friendly attitude. Not that there was any rude service, it was just not any smiles back, or it was I get lack of acknowledgment I guess. My guy went up and got the drinks, and menu's. After I figured out what I wanted I noticed a gross smell coming from my hands. We encounter this from one other place before when they used dirty wash rags to wash the tables. I think dirty wash rags were used to wipe the tables, and menu's here. It was that same smell! I immediately went and washed my hands! At this point I should have known better to eat the food! I ordered finger steaks, and my guy had a pizza! The pizza's are small FYI! As in personal size! He thought it tasted fine. My finger steaks tasted like they were marinated in A.1 steak sauce!! Yuck! If you have to drench your steak in that stuff then you are not making it right period! End of story! You may as well dip that in ketchup! I did eat them because I was starving from being on the road! Soon after I was filled with regret as my stomach was turning! Pretty sure I had food poisoning from here! We didn't stop any where else, and everything else I had eaten along the way my guy had the same thing except the finger steaks. I just want to share what is probably the rudest behavior from a server/bartender that I have EVER received. The back story: my best friend and I are returning to our respective homes after traveling to see the eclipse. We decided to overnight here in Burns, and I told her about this restaurant and how down to earth and relaxing it was, and that they had good food. We come in and we do get seated, in the lounge, fairly quickly. The server takes a bit of time getting back to us to take our drink/meal order, and, to be fair, they were probably busier than usual for a Sunday evening due to more people traveling for the eclipse and there being so few places to eat in Burns. My friend and I both used to be servers, and we realize the situation, and understand. The server finally takes our order, delivers our beverages and then our salads. Our meal does take, what we consider, to be rather long to be delivered, but it is prepared correctly. The server came by only once to follow up with us. Finally, we finish and wait a good 30 minutes for a check for our meal. We finally got up and went to the bar to pay. We, having been servers, tipped well and left a 25% tip. At no time, to that point, did they ever say anything like "we're sorry for the wait, we're super busy, or short staffed", or anything like that. We decided to try the Lottery games and I put $20 and won $18.60. Time to cash out for me. I go to the bar, to be cashed out, and the server says, in a snippy voice, rudely, "you'll have to be come back tomorrow. I can't cash that now. I'm too busy." and walks away. I will admit, this rubbed me completely the wrong way. Yes, they were busy, but to be so rude about helping me, a customer, was uncalled for. It only takes, at most, one minute to cash someone out with Lottery. She never said anything like "I'll be with you in a few minutes or as soon as I can, please be patient". I would have understood, but no communication and the nasty attitude was wrong. Then, she slams down a placard that, essentially said, that customers come before lottery customers, and that I'll have to send in to the lottery to collect my winnings. Was I not a customer? She never gave me information on how to do that and walked away. I have never received such nasty service and I, personally, will never go back. read more
