Probably a nice local watering hole, but only order the food if you have a Lot of free time and you don't care about quality. The service was friendly, but in attentive. To be fair, there isn't a lot to choose from on a Monday night in Burns. At least I didn't starve. I've never seen a New York steak cut 3/8" thick. I might be generous on that measurement. This is a fun place. That good old fashioned bar and grill. Steak sandwich was cooked as ordered. Served with real French Fries! Enjoyed the lunch with a cold IPA in a cold glass! We are passing through and enjoyed it!! Oh...and the new chef is killin' it!! read more

We were out of towners and it seemed like a good place for us both to be satisfied food wise! But, I was actually kind of disappointed with this place. It had a great concept: there was a play place for families with kids and a swinging door that that lead to the bar. When we came in, they seemed a little busy. One of the customers actually direct us. He told us we could sit in the family section, or go through the saloon doors. We sat at a family table for about 5 minutes then decided to order to go. That caused another problem. Whether it was short staff or what, even at the bar, it took a long time for someone to come over. The staff were friendly. Extremely friendly, but the server was either on his first day or really confused. The meals came out wrong and for we waited more than 30 minutes for a burger, tater tots that looked like fries (because they were) and a stinky fish sandwich (don't worry, I'm putting myself down, not the sandwich). I will admit I was confusing and I should have caught the extra charge on the bill (photo below) when I switched from the mozzarella sticks (an extra charge) to a garden salad. I can even forgive the fact that the fish gave me bad gas! But I can't forgive that we didn't get the right order and the extremely long wait, the let down from tater tot-less side, and the $1 charge just for take out! I would have written this review directly to management, but unfortunately, we paid cash. So my reason for posting this is not to deter people, but to warn people that they better be regulars and have about an hour to waste. I hope that if this restaurant reads this, they will devise a plan that will help guide customers to a better dining experience. What we thought would be a fun local experience on our road trip, ended up being a warning for trying something new. :*( While $4 is just $4, it's frustrating because we tipped well. We just hope that goes into our karma bank! read more

I have been coming to this place for years and let me tell you, they have absolute worst costumer service I have seen. They have always gotten out food order wrong almost every time. I ordered the Mac and cheese from here when it got here it was chicken nuggets on my plate. The same waitresses always have some attitude which makes me, my family, and friends seem very unwelcome. May I mention that we ask politely and always use very well behaved manners. They never asked us if we wanted refills or anything of the sort. One of the waitresses did come over and ask if we we're doing okay and I very much appreciate her for that. They take a very long time to get the food ready. We ordered a 3 kids meals and it took almost and hour and a half, (very small portions) they weren't to busy either. The list goes on, when you ask for the bill they have been caught adding their own tip. The restaurant itself looks nice but is very "hick" if you would. The tables are often not very clean though. We were visiting Burns again this weekend and swung in for a delicious Bloody Mary home cut fries and burgers. We were in Saturday about 1:00ish. We weren't sure what to expect with service but we were looking forward to everything else. Our waitress was great! Extremely kind and attentive. Damn good blood Mary. We had friends meet us and they cleaned their plates they were super impressed with their phillycheese steak and beef dip. We look forward to stopping by again when we're in the area. read more

My husband and I were staying at the hot springs for the weekend and were looking for a place in Burns to enjoy a little down time between hot tub soaks. After perusing Yelp we decided on Central Pastime because of Jane's review back in April. I'm sure she was trying to deter patrons however, we found it nothing but inviting and friendly! The front of Central Pastime is very unassuming, blink and you'll miss it but, once you enter, it really opens up into a lovely atmosphere complete with a pool table and poker machines. Yes, they have a lot of signs (the handwritten ones are a bit off-putting but, we understand where they are coming from) the rest of the decor definitely fits in with the Burns lifestyle. We enjoyed some beers, a philly sandwich, french dip and a couple of games of pool. Our food was spot on "hole in the wall" pub food, homestyle, good sized portions and all of the condiments you could imagine, oh and the hand cut fries, sublime, we ordered an extra side, perfectly greasy and salty. Our waitress, Trisha, was friendly, helpful and very attentive. We will definitely be back next time we're in the area. read more

It's a Dive Bar in the best sense of the word! It's where the locals gather for a beer after work or live music in the weekends. The owner and staff are amazing! The food is consistently good. We pulled into Burns at just before closing time The silver spurs hotel recommended the Central Pastime and we were treated to a fantastic meal! Jalapeño tots, a couple of really nice local IPA and a ribeye steak sandwich that was to die for. Topped off by a fantastic bartender who is knowledgeable about all this food in the bar and we had a fun conversation with everyone at the bar. can't recommend highly enough and they turned us onto a great place for breakfast in the morning. read more

Everyone in there was very very much over served, and after having one round and leaving, an older gentlemen who "knows" the owner (I use the term loosely) told my family to leave and never come back. I assume it's a "locals only" kind of joint, but 4/5 of us grew up here. And as we were leaving a couple of the over served patrons were heckling us and shouting slurs down the street. Real classy place, I'm sure we will take the gentlemen's advice and spend our money elsewhere. This was also pretty early in the evening. I ordered burgers, chicken strips and a sandwich with chicken strips in it to go. When I got back home and settled in to eat, the chicken strips were burnt and one of the burgers was pink inside. I'm really disappointed in the food I've had there recently. This is the third time I've had a terrible meal there and the saying goes, third time's a charm. We tried this out when in town at a Harvest Host venue. It's a perfect red neck bar with excellent food and great casual atmosphere. The waitress was amazing handling a big load very gracefully and with a great sense of humor. Will go back for the Patty Melts for sure! Very fair pricing too! read more

Central's is probably the main bar/nightlife competitor with Morgan's, though the Pine Room could be a contender. The main difference between the two is that Central's is more of a bar/restaurant with no dance floor to speak of. It is another usual Burnsian/Burnsite hangout and it's not uncommon to see the same people at both places at different times during the night. The Central Pastime building was originally associated with the Central Hotel, which no longer exists, and has been in operation for 60ish years now. The front area is for the under-21 crowd and is set up with picnic-style dining tables and some arcade games. I don't think I've ever actually seen anyone using this area. From here you walk through swinging saloon doors to the rear area which contains the bar and kitchen, some booths and tables, and two free pool tables and a jukebox. No fancy internet jukebox here like at Morgan's, but the bartenders are happy to switch it over and someone did put a mix CD in the machine with some Flogging Molly and Dropkick Murphys songs, so thank you! The beer situation is not great for dark beer lovers; nothing on tap, though they do have Deschutes Black Butte Porter and Nectar Ales Humboldt Brown Hemp Ale in bottles. The bartenders are pretty friendly and attentive, and they all know what I drink. I don't eat here a whole lot, but the food is decent for what it is. I usually get a burger, which are tasty and inexpensive, though the fries usually come pretty greasy. I wouldn't come here strictly for dining, there are better options in town for that. If you're looking for a relaxed place to hang out, have a have a beer, and not listen to T-Pain or Ludacris, then Central's is probably your place (or give the Pine Room a look!). read more

We just had an awesome cheeseburger and fries for $6.75, an 8 oz. ribeye steak dinner with all the trimmings for $11.00, and Ninkasi and Deschutes drafts for $3.00 each. It's like some kind of price time warp. And the people really are nice too! And there are dead animal heads all over the walls!! And free wifi!!! On Memorial Day!!!! This place was great! Stopped here on our way through town. We come out here frequently and stopped in for a bite to eat. The service was great! So friendly and personable. Out bartender/server was talkative and welcoming. We had a nice chat with Bill, a local, who told us stories of this area that we had never heard before. The Reuben was delicious and fries, hand cut, were to die for. The corned beef is cured in house by the owner and was better corned beef than any I have had in New York! Two friendly hard working servers and only one cook - took a lot longer than we hoped for a meal on the road. Food was really good though! Definitely all homemade and the menu was extensive - much more to offer than just a couple of bar food items. The booths were clean. Kitchens never gets to hear your compliments: so change that! The steak sandwich is a true tender rib-eye 1/2 inch Steak on Tex toast, layered with mushrooms that are not greasy. I've not had better around the world. This is a local's bar, so don't expect coastal chique, but Do expect warm hospitality and honest flavor. This was our first stop after settling into our room in Burns. We had just had an 11+ hour drive with kids and a puppy, so we just wanted food and sleep. Food was hard to come by here. When we walked in, nobody came to the table for over 20 minutes. And then the waitress, after taking our drink order, was another 20 minutes to take our food order because 'she got busy with the bar guests'. Ok. Food was not edible.
