We stopped here for burgers and potato salad at 2:30 on a Wednesday. They were open & very busy even though this listing said "Closed." Everything was delicious and it appears that everything is homemade. We could see that it was pie baking day. There was a nice outdoor eating area with big picnic tables. Indoor dining is a big white windowed tent. Highly recommend! read more

Chose this place for lunch as we were passing through. In a word: delicious. You will not be coming here for the ambience. You will be coming here because you like great food. My husband's double cheeseburger was humongous. You put your own condiments on the burger. I chose the tri tip salad with a delicious raspberry vinaigrette dressing, and my sister chose the grilled chicken salad with the homemade ranch. Both meats were tender and juicy -- quite flavorful. Their sauces and dressings are available for purchase to take home. You can sit outdoors or under the the big white tent. The place was busy the entire time we were here. Obviously a favorite of the locals. My brother-in-law is a snickerdoodle connoisseur. He shared one with us. I liked the flavor and chewiness. He said he prefers his a little more moist. THEE BEST tri-tip I've ever had. Their baked beans had ground beef in it and tasted like my Mama's! Never had potato-grits (what I called heir cheese potatoes) but it was good too. The dinner roll came win butter and homemade raspberry jam, and be salad had candied walnuts in it. And they had sweet tea! Got a homemade raspberry danish for dessert and rolled to my car after. Put a fork in me cause I was done! Will stop by every time I'm in the area and they're open (they close at 2pm). read more

We stopped and it was decent. The burger I got wasn't my favorite but still good. The cheesy potatoes were amazing. We will definitely come back by on our way out of town and try something different. The salad looked amazing and I didn't order one so I will try that next time. My husband got the tri tip and said it was very good. Their bbq sauce was amazing! I will update my review on our way back through, perfect spot and stop In Burns. We stopped back by the next day and my husband got breakfast and enjoyed it, I went with the tri tip salad and it was amazing. Loved the dressing, we might stop by on the way out and I will try the chicken on the salad next time and we will buy dressing and BBQ sauce to take home. So good. Stopped by again on our way back to Bend, had the salad again but with chicken and so good. We bought some salad dressing and bbq to go. Definitely a must stop if in the area. read more

Found this gem thanks to Yelp, and you will NOT be disappointed. The customer service is like none other and the food is SO GOOD. We are traveling through from Nebraska and when we pulled up and my fam saw the tent they thought I was crazy, but after they all raved about it! This is a can't miss in Burns right off the main road. Tender and tasty brisket! Chicken and pork and bbq sauce great too. An unexpected find for us driving through during the lunch hour. We will without a doubt keep it in mind next time we are nearby! We shared a large platter so got to try all three smoked meats and had cheesy potato, coleslaw, and beans as a side. No left overs! What an incredible find. Our family was enroute today to Northern California and stumbled across this little BBQ place. The tri tip was perfectly smoked and the Nolan burger with bacon, tried tip and housemade BBQ sauce was literally one of the best burgers I've ever tasted. This small family run place needs to be your go to spot if you're ever traveling through Burns. Only open 7:30 AM to 2:30 PM and closed on the weekends. This family knows how to do BBQ right! read more

Scrumptious find~skip the fast food and head here. Fresh ingredients~all made to order. We had burgers and the attention to detail on the condiments was impressive. Not generally want to order onions on my burger, but they come so finely sliced and fresh that I truly enjoyed them. And, silly? maybe...but I judge how a food establishment makes coleslaw. We were recommended here from a gas station attendant while traveling through and it did not disappoint! We had tri tip sandwiches and the tri tip was great! I could probably do without the bread, just a lot of it and it fell apart while eating. I'd get the plate next time instead. Cheesy potatoes were amazing! I found it hard to believe it was only a half portion. The salad came with a very large portion of shredded torn, hot chicken. The lettuce was Romaine and it had diced tomatoes with shredded cheese slices of cucumbers, large slices of red onion, and croutons. It was supposed to come with a sliced egg, but there was none on the salad. The chicken Alfredo was a very large portion. There was more chicken on the salad then in the chicken Alfredo. The Alfredo sauce tasted smoky. I swear there was a half a pound of pasta in that dish. Like all the other portions of food it is very large. They serve fresh bread with butter to the table. The bread is delicious. The waiter said they make it here. We were offered dessert but we chose you to decline. They have a display case of three different kinds of pies, bars, chocolate cake, cheesecake, and more. My only complaint is that the booths are so far from the table. I had to eat at the end of my bench. But I love that the backs of the booths are so very tall. You can't see your neighbor behind you. I was finished eating and pushed my plate away. My husband was still eating his food. The waiter came up to see if we needed anything else. As we were talking to him, an older woman came by interrupted our conversation with the waiter and started to take all of our plates. My husband was not finished eating, but since she piled the plates on top of each other, we were now done. Perhaps in the future, she should ask if we are finished before removing them from the table. The staff is friendly. The food is ginormous and delicious. Plaster it everywhere on the outside--thus washing our faces in it--and that's a big flipped bird at anyone who doesn't share those politics. They are perfectly entitled to their choice of decor, but in turn we are perfectly entitled to turn around and drive away. Nailing their colors to the mast is a choice, and it tells some customers that they are not welcome. One of two things is true: Either the owners are great with that, or they are unable to see the harm. A lot of money has probably flowed away from this place over the years for this reason, and it's not like the John Day community has a massive population base. Two stars because, while the presentation was so hideous it made us not want to support their business, we can't judge the food or service. But hey, if that's fine with them, duly noted.
