The Kulach dough was amazing- soft, doughy, salty. Then I bit into a cheap hotdog in the middle- blech. This would be amazing if you used the jalapeño cheese hotdogs from Alvord beef Company! The woman who rang us up was very nice and gave us lots of information about the bakery and its history. We were driving through the area on a weekend road trip recently. Desiring something sweet to take with us for desert we noticed that luckily Annie's was still open...it was after lunchtime. We received a very nice greeting as we entered the unassuming shop. Due to the time of day beggars can't really be choosers, and it's a good thing as there wasn't much left from which to choose. We grabbed a cinnamon donut, buttermilk bar, an old fashioned, and a cookie. The buttermilk and old fashioned tasted good, just a smidge on the greasy side. The cookie was huge...your average peanut butter cookie taste. The cinnamon wasn't great. It definitely tasted of a donut that had sat for too long, and it had a different texture...not really that of a fluffy yeast donut but not that of a cake donut either. Not the greatest examples of what they offer I assume, as it seems Annie's gets really good reviews. I will say that the service was very friendly, and we didn't notice until we opened the bag they'd thrown in a couple extras. read more

We're not sure why this is rated one of the top breakfast places in Burns. In all fairness, we did not do a pastry. We wanted something less sweet and each got a kolache and a coffee. Neither were very good. Won't be going back. read more

Super friendly staff. Everything is made on site. Clean bathrooms. Delicious savory and sweet options. The savory bread wrapped sausages with jalapeños and other spices. Perfect for on the road. The maple bar & Apple fritter were warm and delicious. I wish I could remember the name of the savory bread wrapped yummies, but unfortunately I can't. I'll be back! read more

We have family in western Oregon, sso we drive through Burns, Oregon now and again. Annie's is the best bakery we've found in all of the western and mid-western staes. Her pastries are always done to perfection, and I love the Kolachis. Well done to the crew. read more

"Not worth the stop" was my husband's short form summary as we walked out of Annie's and back to our car. With respect to fellow Yelpers who had this framed at nearly 5 star average and so put it on our 'stop and try' list, for us it was not that. The young counter helper was top notch for being cheerful and friendly as we walked in about half an hour before closing (they close at noon and are open limited days a week) on our way home to Boise from Bend, a drive we have made many times given my parents live in Bend and my mom had been very ill, but always at times when Annie's was closed until this trip. We found the interior space dark, disorderly and unwelcoming although on the plus side all seemed very clean. We chose a berry kolache (blueberry we think but the counter helper wasn't sure what it was) and a buttermilk 'bar'. The fried dough of the latter seemed to be the same dough of the former and unlike any kolache we have had elsewhere given the dough for those delights when made right is typically a raised one and baked not fried as this one seemed to be. We should have known better than to pick a messy item like this for a car ride but no matter because after a couple of bites it was too sweet and greasy dough and oddly flavorless but for sweet filling for us to want to eat it. (Thanks to them for the waxed bag which prevented the item from bleeding through in the car when we set it on the floor to dispose of.) The buttermilk bar was too dense for our preference but we did eat it as good enough for two hungry people but also not something we'd return for nor recommend. Noting another Yelper recommended the savory kolache, they are really wrapped up in what seems a savory dough in more like a filled bun form. On the late morning we were there they had two spicy options left, and a lot of them, and given we love spicy food we may have tried one of those but for the fact they both contained a sausage of unknown to us origin and we are picky about knowing where the animal proteins we eat come from. In the mode of different strokes for different folks, this may work for you even if it doesn't work for us. But we had thought it might be a stop for us on our drive to Bend next week to pick up maple bars for my dad, his fav and the ones here get high marks from locals, and coming full circle at end of review to the start, my husband's comment fits. read more

We stopped on our way thru town on vacation. She makes delicious donuts and baked goods. The shop has a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Our kiddo enjoyed playing with legos and wandering while we ate our donuts and drank coffee. Highly recommend! read more
