Short version: This new Dad's Kitchen is about to rock the socks off the Fair Oaks / Orangevale / Folsom area. If you live anywhere in the vicinity, this should become your casual dinner and weeknight happy hour and family weekend brunch spot. It's the same food, owners, concept, and vibe of the Freeport location, but bigger, more spacious, and more.... well, suburban. Longer, more meandering version: I don't mean "more suburban" pejoratively. I really think they nailed it with the space, for the clientele they are likely to get. The patio alone is the size of the the entire inside seating area on Freeport. There is a full bar which (would be nice on Freeport, too, but) is necessary when you're competing most closely with Applebee's and the like. That did sound like a slight on the suburbs. Sorry. It's a bad, but totally understandable habit. The decor is like the bigger, fancier brother to the other Dad's Kitchen. Lots of funkiness, vintage beer posters, and great use of color. The bar is spacious, and separated from the general dining room. There are also a bunch of new speciality cocktails they've created, for the $8 and $9 range. They are strong, too. The menu is the same delicious, hearty Dad's food -- thought some items have been tweaked a bit (and I'm not sure if they will also be changed at the original Dad's). We came for lunch today, and it was fantastic. The food was really fast -- I think the kitchen must be a lot bigger, and able to deal with greater volume. There is also a private dining room that you can reserve for a large group (up to 20, I think). This is the third or fourth time we've eaten here and would love it, be careful when you order because it's a lot of food!

After a brief walk around the hatchery, then down and up a couple miles of bike path, I returned to the car in search of a diner. Bam, Dad's Kitchen- 1.6 miles from where I was sitting. I've read good things about it here on Yelp, so I became curious. After a brief call to make sure dogs are allowed, we arrived to a table on the patio, covered by enough cloth to make it feel indoors. Never did find the actual front door actually- showed up through and exited through the back gate. Ordered a couple burgers, one with an upcharge for some dressed up fries and the other with regular fries. Also got a plate of six onion rings. The difference between the blue cheese fries and the regular ones seemed negligible, but the burgers were big enough to bring half of each home yet still leave full. I had been reading about this place for months and finally realized that I would be near the Hazel location at lunchtime. There was plenty of parking and open tables when walked in at noonish. I was warmly greeted and directed to choose my own table on the patio. My mom made terrific meatloaf, so I chose the meatloaf sandwich which came with fries. Gotta say I was disappointed with both. Flavorless. So I waited a month and went back. This time I ordered Dad's burger which comes with...fries. This burger was perfectly cooked-rare, and very tasty. The special sauce was a nice addition to the flavor of the burger so I ordered some for the fries. I don't think you will be disappointed if you order a burger here, though it seems a bit pricey for just a burger and fries. The order was large enough that I took home half the burger. read more

Menu keeps changing, yet the kitchen still can't find a vegetable to put anywhere near it. Food here used to be decent, and I use that term loosely. This rating is a balance of service and food. Though our server was extremely friendly and prompt, the overall service was slow and detached. I wasn't greeted and though there were open tables, not seated for quite a while. The hostess and other server in our area (seemed bored when she asked about and brought our drinks) didn't seem to have much time for us. The food was good. I had the bourbon burger and asked to add pepper jack cheese and avocado, neither of which were added. The burger itself, was tasty. The fries didn't seem fresh and were soaked in oil. In fact, the menu does not make it clear in the descriptions that the fries have oil (garlic, habanero, etc.). The drinks, however, were good. There were no issues with the bar. read more

Normally everything is on point. However I do not recommend the fried pickles. They are soggy and just disgusting. The whole box went in the trash. Which is very upsetting I've been craving fried pickles for months. I'll know better for next time. read more

I've only come here a couple times but every time I did I've really enjoyed it with my family. The restaurant has a close and welcoming touch and makes me feel welcomed. The food is good too. Tried Dad's Kitchen for the first time last night. The food was ok, and the beer selection is good, but the service was terrible. First, it took awhile for the waitress to come to our table. After we ordered, it took forever for our hamburger and sandwich to arrive. It came to the table with luke warm french fries, which leads me to believe the food sat it the kitchen for awhile before I asked the stewardess to check on the food. We asked for ketchup and salt and pepper, only to have to get it ourselves from another table. Lastly, a soda refill request was only accomplished with a second request. Went there yesterday while visiting family in the area. Disappointed doesn't even cover how we feel. Had it not been for family we would have complained, but then again server never table touched to give us the opportunity to do so. I have been a server many years but honestly that doesn't matter. The food was awful!!! Burgers used to be so good. This time a medium burger was burnt, fries cold and forgot one order completely, never came back to say it's cooking or say I am sorry!!! Love this place. The food is comfort style with fun and unique specials and the atmosphere is also family style and super friendly. They have a great beer board, full bar and sports on multiple TVs....my kind of place. I had a jalapeno popper burger the other day off the specials menu that was delish. Service was awful and the food is edible at best. The waitress did not notice us the whole time. Some of the worst Service I've ever had. Part of it could be because they just are under staffed. But the burger and chicken sandwich we got was awful. Tasteless chicken sandwich and dry crap burger. We got onion rings too and were average at best. Dads kitchen definitely has the juiciest, most flavorful burgers in the area! My favorite is the cowboy burger! Also the fries are perfect, crispy on the outside and fluffy inside. We tried this location as part of a date night with the wife. I had the classic cheeseburger and the wife had the Dad's burger, blue cheese and bacon. The buns are fresh made not prepackaged store buns. The meat is fresh not frozen preformed patties. The fries are steak fries, harder to cook. Although I don't preferred the steak fry cut, they were cooked just right. The place is a little too loud the have a conversation, but we enjoyed the food and will come back. read more

WTF happened to this place? Last few times have been sub par. Tonight was awful. I got the cobb. It was the blandest most boring cobb I have ever seen. The chicken was super bland, the bacon was limp, the blue cheese dressing tasted like half and half with some mayo and a couple blue cheese crumbles. It was watery and absolutely gross. My friend got the mac and cheese with bacon and ate three bites of it because the pasta was so overdone it was mushy. I ordered the cowboy burger for my partner, to take home to him and they gave me the wrong burger and he said it was nothing to write home about. AND I was sat outside, but asked for a table inside if one opened up because it was still very cold despite the heaters and was told I would be moved as soon as one opened. I sat outside all by myself waiting for my friend and some water. 10 minutes later and the server finally came out to give me water. Through the window,I had seen a couple get up from a table inside. I asked her about that (especially since I was told we would get the next inside table) she said I could have it, if the host wasn't already sitting someone there.... me. that should have been me. She went inside and I was then told I could go in. It was weird. The ONLY yummy thing I got was the spiked apple cider drink. That gave them 2 stars tonight. Year after year, dads never disappoints! I can walk in and order a beer, tacos or even a pizza. The staff is always courteous, prompt and ready to serve. It's truly like coming home. The rotating beer selection never lets me down. The pint nights are very fun and the dads mugs are the finishing touch to a great restaurant. I truly recommend this to all of my friends, the private room is perfect for large parties that I've reserved for family functions. If there was a way to give Dads 10 stars instead of 5 I would! This used to be a favorite spot. But the last few times the wait time for food has been outrageously long. Today was the last straw; everyone on the patio was seated after us, yet got their food before us. The medium burger was more rare and the root beer was flat. But worst of all...,and the whole reason that we decided to come take one more chance on the service....there was NO garlic on the garlic Parmesan fries. Hamburgers are one of our favorite things to eat. My fiancé heard about this place from a guy at work. After cake tasting in Tahoe we drove home and were dying to put something into our tummys. A burger it is!! We came to dads and sat in the patio. I asked if we could have our dogs with us. The guy said only service dogs. I said on the patio? And he repeated, only service dogs. Probably the only disappointment. My fiancé ordered the cowboy burger and fries. I wanted the dads burger but the menu said it can't be well done. And I like my meat done so the waitress helped me with another similar option. I got the classic burger and added a bunch of stuff: bacon, blue cheese, avocado, jalapeños and I got the habanero blue cheese fries. The bigger and sloppier the burger, the better. My fiancé loved his burger. He said the BBQ sauce was really good too. My burger was excellent as well. The patty was thick. I don't like plain burgers, I like the ones I can add a million things too and it needs to get messy. The fries were yummy too but I got full quickly and only could eat half. I'm sure we will return! Only came here because we had bought a groupon but after buying it realized we thought it was a different dads kitchen . The place seems to be carried by the fact they were on triple d. I've never seen the episode but they show you with a huge poster when you walk in and it's also on the menus. Everything here seems to have bleu cheese on it in some way. I'm not a bleu cheese fan though . I went with the bourbon bacon burger and garlic parm fries. My fiancé got the Cuban sandwich. Burger was cooked to a perfect medium and the bacon was nice and crispy. Bun was my issue though . Was stale and there was just way too much of it . Ended up tearing off of almost half of it so I wasn't just eating bun. The Cuban sandwich wasn't very good at all . I'd give zero stars if allowed... Where to start...... Well, went in today around 1250. Not too crowded. A brunch menu only? Really? Its 1pm! Then have to ask for napkins. Server says okay then goes and takes an order from a table of 6. Awesome. 10 mins later: napkins! Oh and the burger? Can't taste anything but blue cheese... which brings me to another issue: if they wont cook the burger well done then whyyyyy does it take so longggg? Well, our 1st visit to Dad's was a real dud, so disappointing. After searching online for an hour to find a restaurant that served a turkey or chicken burger (wife only eats poultry), Dad's was the only choice in our area. Here are our disappointments: 1. It all started when my wife selected one of their cocktails from their "Specialty" drink menu, but they could not make it because they did not have all the ingredients. 2. My wife ordered their Turkey Burger from the menu, but, they didn't have it available the main reason we chose Dad's). 3. We ordered the Arugula, Apple and Pecan salad from their "Special" menu, but received a spinach salad instead. 4. I order the French dip, which I had 2 bites after scrapping all the onions off. It was terrible and should not have even been served. It was basically a deep-fried onion sandwich that had a quarter inch layer of chopped meat and cheese. And, they also served it panini style which was not even referenced on their panini menu. This wasn't a French dip and for $16.00? After all the disappointments, I didn't send it back, we just wanted to leave. Not a fan of this restaurant, nor spending money for a mediocre dining experience and cuisine. 5.
