The food here is good, but what really has me sold on this place is the desserts. On my last visit the tres leches cake was hands down top 3 desserts I've had in my life, throw in the fact that the fruity pebbles cheese cake was fantastic and the creme brûlée was just as good was mind blowing. This should tell you how well they do when it comes to desserts. Went here for the first time today. And LOVED the Dads Burger. One of the best burgers I have ever had. Their steak fries were cooked perfectly as well. Decent beer list. We also had the fried pickles which I liked as well, the breading stayed on and wasn't crumbling. I have come to this restaurant a few times. I always try something new because they have so many yummy sounding dishes. I ordered the Dad's Phiily & this is what I got. I am no noobie when it comes to philly sandwiches. This is the 1st place I've ever seen a patty used instead of the chopped beef. The flavor was good but..... If you're going to use a tiny piece of meat, get a smaller roll. If you're going to use that size roll then add more meat. That is really my only complaint. We have been frequenting this place for the last 5 years. The food is great and the service is usually too. Last week, we went in for an early dinner and proceeded to get poor service. For the first time in a long time, I tipped the waitress with a one dollar bill. I completed the restaurant receipt with a zero and a line through it, totaled it and signed the receipt. I also left a note on the restaurant copy of the signed receipt, as to why she received a dollar tip. I was not rude - just honest to her lack of follow through and personality. I thought nothing more until balancing my checkbook this weekend. Much to my surprise it cleared for $8.00 more than I agreed to. We went into the restaurant and after the manager took my receipt, she came back with $8.00, said that the waitress must have keyed in the wrong thing and that she is an honest employee. She went on to say that the waitress must not been having a good night because she is usually good. I felt like I was handed the $8.00 to be quiet and go away. Go away we did. The sad thing is we won't be able to go back because of this. Honest mistake? Perhaps. My feeling - I think it was intentional. In my experience this should have been handled when management did their job and checked their totals to balance that night. So, in short, let this be a lesson to all. Keep your receipts and make sure that it clear your bank for the same amount - if not - do something about it. read more

I had never even heard of this place. I was calling it "Daddy's Kitchen" until I was corrected ! When I tell you the food was fire , the service bomb , and I eat with happiness! Our lunch was good, but I was really disappointed to see the staff not enforcing customers to wear masks away from their tables. When I brought this to my server's attention he was apologetic and assured me that employees were following COVID guidelines, which they were as much as I could tell, but when I asked why they weren't enforcing their customers to follow guidelines he said they could not force them to. I'm hoping I misunderstood him, or maybe he was misunderstanding guidance from his employer - either way, it was very uncomfortable eating there watching what was allowed to happen around me and I will likely will wait until times are better before considering going back. read more

We gave this place a go one last time ( thought 3rd times a charm) but we will never go back. Tried it again a few nights ago using a gift card they gave me from my last horrible meal. Had the chicken sandwich. Chicken was dry, paper thin, burnt and inedible. Also purchased the chili Mac. The chili was so spicy, we couldn't eat that either. Needed a spot for brunch after a very long hike. Came across this place on Yelp so wanted to check it out. For our first time here, we wanted to try the Bloody Mary, California omelette, potatoes and toast. Everything was yummy, tasted so clean and fresh. I don't claim to be a restaurant operations expert but when there are more tables available than occupied, why would you have multiple parties on the "wait list" standing in the entrance of the restaurant and in the parking lot? Our party of 8 went in early Friday evening looking forward to going out close to home. We were happy when we arrived to see that most of the tables on the outdoor patio were available and in the restaurant most of those were too. The bar was busy but it's so loud in that waiting a few minutes for a table to be prepared would work for us. OOPS- that wasn't going to happen as the hostess informed us it would be 20-30 minutes for our table. She was somewhat delighted to advise us of the long wait. I said we would be happy with any of the empty tables, inside or outside but she let me know that there were parties ahead of us. After milling around in the parking lot and in the crowded entrance to the restaurant we decided to leave (including my elderly 87 year-old mother who had been standing in the parking lot looking at the outdoor patio virtually empty asking why we couldn't sit there). There were 2 other parties that we were talking to and they were at a loss as well, they were there before us and when we left so did they. I really don't understand- wouldn't you rather have people seated at tables ordering drinks and appetizers rather than standing around unhappy? I get it if there aren't any tables available- that's understandable. This is just a case of a young Hostess who doesn't understand customer service running the restaurant and the Manager not being aware of what's going on. 14 people that I know of didn't dine at Dads that evening due to that but they seemed plenty busy, they won't miss us. We enjoy Dad's Kitchen fairly often as we live so close by! During the pandemic it was our go to takeout spot! The green machine, spicy chick, and hot blond are some of our favorite items on the menu! Brunch on The weekends is a must. It can get busy, but I went on a Saturday with a girlfriend and the mimosas were flowing and our glasses were never empty. I subbed the fries for salad which was another $2.99 when it came, there was my burger patty (I ordered it with no bun) and the smallest bowl of salad I've ever seen. The Boss and I came to Dad's Kitchen for our monthly Happy Hour that we put on to hangout with people we work with and who refer us business. Parking was easy because there is a good sized lot, and we ended up sitting out on the spacious patio which is a really nice place when the weather cooperates. It's covered so you can still sit outside when it rains, but might be uncomfortable when it's cold. The inside is rather large as well, with a long bar on one side of the room and plenty of tables on the other. We were surprised to find out that Happy Hour isn't just in the bar area, so we ordered a bunch of Happy Hour Appetizers as well as a few drinks to share. I ordered a Sour Stout that they had on tap which was good, but more stout than sour. My favorite appetizers were the Macaroni and Cheese (so tasty and cheesy!), French Fries with Ranch Dipping Sauce (perfectly cooked fries), Chips and Salsa (nice and fresh chips) and the Garlic Bread Sticks (cooked nicely with good flavor). We also ordered some Pulled Pork Sliders and a Quesadilla which I didn't get to try but it looked good. I was happy to see on the menu many Vegetarian Appetizers and Entrees... Yay! I found myself having plenty of choices which was nice because usually there are only one or two. They also had a great craft beer selection and service was on point. First time at Dad's Kitchen in Fair Oaks. A small family get together - 9 of us - and quickly accommodated and they don't take reservations; arrived early enough (5:00pm on a Saturday). Started with a drink in the bar area before others arrived. It's not clear on their website but they do have a full bar. The food was different than I had expected given the décor and ambience. The menu describes the food well and the presentation is not as expected... not a bad thing. Sometimes you read a menu item and it's ingredient composition and have a preconceived idea of what it'll look like, usually based on other experiences. My "Tasty Taco Salad" was not a 'typical' taco salad. Black beans on the bottom, leaf lettuce (not shredded), topped with the goodies (carnitas, in my case) with a side of zesty dressing. Not sure how much is made in-house but as long as it's good, I don't really care. I did find the large TV in the main dining room a bit odd and distracting. And I think a dimmer for the main dining room lights light be a good idea. Overall, I'll be back and definitely will try the burger ... looked good! read more

This is not the location they filmed the show at, but I still hit them. They are what I call the alternate locations. Atmosphere - It feels like it was another restaurant before. Then they took over and covered the place with beer signs. I approve! I love they have their old taps on display. It is by their back door. The bar itself is covered with labels of different beers. Food Drinks - I had a Tap It IPA, great tap selection here. Main Course - A burger is the standard fare here and I stuck with it. Even though it is my first time to this location I have been to their other location a few times and I gonna try something new. The Cowboy burger was bbq heaven on a burger. The bun was excellent and held up to the bbq sauce. I stayed with the standard fries, in the past I have gone with the onion rings, but whatever reason I was feeling like fries today. There was nothing special about the fries but with a burger a good choice. Service - Out waiter was great. He got my daughter a kids menu after she could not find anything she wanted. I left the family to check out the bar area. I took some pics of the taps and the bartender came over and offer samples, which was great. How can you say no to samples of beer. Soft opening! Same great food, but not quite as many beers on tap... If you aren't familiar with Dad's kitchen, I believe they were on an episode of Diners Drive-ins and Dives, feel free to go watch that at your convenience... I, on the other hand know them because of the delicious food and beer they serve out in Land Park! I saw they were opening up a new location, and had to check it out! Managed to come in for a soft opening event, they weren't taking credit cards yet, but should be soon. The decor could use a little more of that "Dad's kitchen" feel to it, but I suspect it won't be too long till they get that personal touch on the walls! Even during the soft opening, the food and service was on par, they are just missing a few of the beers we know and love! 1 STAR experience at a 5 STAR potential ends with a 3 STAR....with explaining We made reservations for 5:30PM about an hour before the rush. This place gets really crowded being this is a second and new location. The original spot in the South area and was featured on Diner's Drive-In's and Dives. We had a party of 13 but 6 were children and teens who love everything. Most of the kinks are definitely procedure based which is in relation to large parties. Training will fix this and I am a very easy customer. The chef/cook was definitely out of his element. We looked them up before deciding on which restaurant. We went because they feature grass fed burgers and 14 craft beers on tap. Both of these we love and if you feature basically burgers....they should be easy, right? My wife and I with our two sons arrived at 5:10. Early but we looked inside and they were basically empty at that time. We were greeted by what we found out later was the manager of the night. Nice guy had us seated at our table and the waitress just left after seating us. My wife and I looked at each other thinking should would be coming back to ask if we would like drinks or anything until the rest of our party arrived. WRONG....after 10 minutes we flagged her down and asked if we could get something to drink. She apologized and said no problem, what would we like? I said, "What do you have and what beers do you have on tap?" She then realized we never got menus or their beer list. Maybe this is just me but I would be handing every single adult the 14 craft beer list because this is major income potential for any restaurant. We order two beers and 2 sodas for the boys. We told her that we were 4 couples and separate bills would be easier for her. She said they do not do separate bills. I said okay "we will figure it out" but then in the same breath, she said since we ordered drinks first we would be on a separate bill. Isn't that the same thing :). 20 minutes later after everyone else arrived we got our first 2 beers and 2 sodas. Mind you, the place was still practically empty. No big deal. Within about 10 minutes they took our orders of 3 macaroni and cheese dishes for the little ones, 1 salad, 1 chicken sandwich and 6 of the same burger. 4 medium rare and 2 medium well. They brought out 2 burgers and 1 macaroni and cheese plate and the salad in a decent ticket time. We were waiting on 4 burgers and a chicken sandwich. We waited thinking the rest would be following in a minute. WRONG again. 15-20 minutes later a little more came out. The night goes on and on. Wrong burgers, missing burgers, they had to come back to our table literally 15 times asking what we were missing. 2 burgers were forgotten for 2 hours as they brought out honestly a hundred to other people seated after. The place was packed but it is a shame to think of the money lost not turning over our tables. At 7:45 the last burger came out. It was cooked wrong. We were fine with it at this point but the manager tried saying, "Our beef is grass fed beef and we do not cook them medium well." First off, the why take an order this way then? Also, 2 of our MEDIUM RARE ordered burgers we ate were cooked MEDIUM WELL. Let me finish by saying he was bending over backwards to make this night better for our party which we APPRECIATE COMPLETELY. He handled the situation like a manager should. Especially since all the mistakes they were making in the back were not caught by the expeditor and our waitress was catching them as she tried to serve us. I felt horrible for her. I do not want to say exactly what he did for us because I do not want others to try and take advantage. Nice people, nice place, great concept, great location, we will try them again, they just need to work out procedure and grilling flaws. Everything is easily fixable and I love the style of the restaurant. Good burgers and good beers are the type of places my wife and I eat at many times a month. I will not eat here again because the food is average and the location is way the hell out of my orbit. I had a "Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich" and fries. I liked the fries better than the sandwich. Nobody bothered to chop up the steak so I literally had a steak sandwich filled with mushrooms, peppers and onions. My host had a cowboy burger loaded with carbohydrates so he just ate the vegetables and protein. That's why he is a slender 72 year year old son of a bitch. I don't care if Guy Fieri recommended Dad's Kitchen or Anthony Bourdain smoked a joint and got drunk at Dad's Kitchen (he did not). Food celebrities don't smell and eat what you and I consume on any given day at any given restaurant. They receive VIP treatment so their perspective is jaded. Excellent home food with special twists. Started with habanero bleu cheese wings and cheese curds. We had Chick Sandwich, loaded with great savory flavors. Had bleu cheese habanero fries...spicy, but great. Standard burger was great for kids, simple yet hardy. The meatloaf plate was delicious, served with garlic fries and veggies. I checked out this pace for the first time last night with my boyfriend. I can't eat much food so I kept it simple and ordered the street taco (1). My boyfriend ordered the Philly steak sandwich (I forget the name of it), and while my street taco was very good, the philly steak sandwich was not. I'm not sure if it was the cook or the food but it tasted like the meat had been sitting near fish all day, the meat was fatty/rubbery like, and the bread appeared to have some mold-like substance on it. It was awful tasting. Luckily the waiter did not charge us for the sandwich and I don't want others to think to never come here based on my experience but just make sure you know what you want (and check your food) and if you don't, keep it simple....to the street tacos. They're overpriced on their food items but whatever. I enjoyed my taco so I can't complain too much. Is it the best burger I have ever had?...No. But, if you are craving a good burger you can find one here! I will say that the food is a little overpriced. You are not getting a bargain here. Other Notes: they have a pretty good beer selection that is a little heavy on the Lagunitas. I love them but it would be nice to see some of the local beers on tap too. Atmosphere is ok. It seems like the place is trying to be a dive bar instead of being authentic.
