Busy place at night. There is about an hour line outside very night I past this place. But I think you get to the front of the line if a taxi drops you off because on two occasions I saw couples get seated without waiting (to the delight of the people in line). Me? I ordered "to go". I kept it simple with a plain Margarita (cheese and tomato sauce for 6 uro) so that I can truly get there flavor. The crust had a great texture; thin, slightly crispy, and bendable. But not too much flavor on the crust itself only the char from the oven. The sauce was balanced, not too sweet and a mild tang. That was good. The cheese texture was there melted with a bit of saltiness at the start then morphed into a ricotta creamy flavor at the end. Good "take out" pizza but not an hour wait in line pizza. And remember cash only and they do not slice the pizza. The box it whole. So if you share one you will be tearing pieces off. Not a bad thing tho. read more

Found it on a guide book and given the line outside the store, it was probably in a bunch of other guide books haha. Had a calzone and a pizza. Very very crowded place, but to me that's a good sign; means the food is good and people are willing to wait for it. This was also a place with lots of locals so we were sure to try it out. Da Baffetto is one of those places which for whatever reason has perpetual buzz about it and is highly recommended to visitors to the city, however when you go eat there you're left wondering what the big deal was about. My wife and I had the Margherita and the Napoletana and they were both good, price was fine but the service wasn't great which unfortunately happens with anyplace that predominantly services tourists. We fortunately, didn't have to wait on the long line for the restaurant because the concierge at our hotel hooked us up but we saw some people waiting 45 minutes to get seated. I would have been pretty disappointed to have to wait that long to get just decent pizza. Honestly, we've had comparable to better pizza throughout Italy from even modest mom and pop establishments. The bottom line is if you are in the area, don't see a line and want decent pizza then this is a good option but it's not something to go out of your way to get. read more

Very mediocre pizza. It certainly wasn't even close to many of the best places we've tried in Rome, Florence, and the rest of Italy. The price is decent at €6 for the cheapest pizza, and it's not bad by American standards but for Italy this was probably at the very bottom of my pizza list. Not sure I would specifically recommend this to anyone. Also..around dinner time (especially on Saturdays) the line gets VERY long. We were in the area for the gelato place next-door and couldn't believe so many people were lining up for what I considered mediocre pizza. Passed this place several times to Frigidaire for gelatos. Each night there were lines out the door. We decided to try it out. Well worth it. Didn't see it come up on Yelp or Trip Advisor. We were in line before it even open. They didn't have the tables ready but they seated everyone piling one next to the other. Then handed out tablecloths, silverware, and water glasses. We didn't mind sharing a table butt up against the next as we met some really nice ladies vacationing from Belgium. They said that "the place gets a lot of raves and a lot of local Italians eat there." We didn't get to really peruse the menu. We felt pressure to order quickly (waiter rushing people next to us to hurry up in ordering and the long line of people waiting to be seated). Friendly professional and very focused staff. We ordered the pizza marguerita and pizza baffetta. Very fresh thin crust fire oven baked pizza-----delicious. The medium size seemed so huge (pizzas come in medium or large). I didn't think I could finish it, but it was so good I wanted to try something else. Suggest ordering different mediums and sharing. Baffetto has always been a favorite of mine. This restaurant has been open forever and as a testament of that an infinite collection of pictures on the wall with soccer players, showbiz gals, models, politicians, actors, etc. The restaurant is 3 minutes away from piazza Navona which makes it a touristy destination, however local people dine there as well. The wait stuff is rude and they will make fun of everyone, straight in your face. Despite this the pizza is good and different from other places. It's a very thin crust almost like a saltine cracker but the ingredients are fresh and after all the service is very attentive. The only drawbacks are the infinite line to get a table and the price which literally doubled from my latest visit last year. Do no expect these folks to speak any other language outer than Roman dialect! I'm an Italian myself that lives abroad for many years and they are not gonna make any effort to even speak Italian. This last time I had a 4 cheese with arugula & bresaola which was great however you might wanna order the house special "baffetto" with sausage, onions and a fresh egg in the middle. Best pizza in Rome! This place is a local gem that definitely cannot be missed. It's attracted people from all over the world including us travelling from Toronto. (We went there twice in the week we were in Rome!) Visited this place at the suggestion of my Airbnb host. There was a few minutes lineup, but moved very fast. Inside they were making all the pizzas to order right out in the middle of the restaurant for all to see which was a nice thing to watch. Order wine and they bring out a small porcelain jug of good house wine. Nothing pretentious. Pizza was outstanding, 100% chance I will come back here when and if I come to Roma again. read more

We were one of the first tables to arrive and were greeted with a few grunts and what seemed to be a very upset server. A couple menus were thrown on the table and when we were ready to order the server couldn't even look us in the eye. I'm not quite sure what we did to offend him, but he certainly didn't seem happy to be there. Our food came pretty quickly and I was pretty good, but we couldn't help but feel unwelcome. The real nail in the coffin was when the server threw our change on the table as if we were peasants begging for loose change. I am used to long lines for restaurants. that's generally how to spot a great one. This is about a 0.5-1 hour wait. Not bad. Unless you don't speak Italian... I was a party of one, and waited over 2 hours to try this infamous roman style pizza. I was really discriminated against, probably for being American. I have never experienced anything like that, ever. I think any other person would have left, or would have broke down at the table and cried by the way my waiter treated me. Luckily, I'm a resilient guy and I don't take kindly to offensive behavior. After a long game of him not knowing what I was saying, and not understanding pointing at the picture on the menu, he finally conceded and brought what I ordered. He walked back and forth from the door to the kitchen screaming things at me in Italian. I was sat at a four top sharing with two other strangers who told me, what he was telling the restaurant about me was not nice. They spoke Italian. Of all the languages I speak, (about 5) that's one I never got around to learning. The waiter/host literally shouted at me (...in perfect English...) WHY DON'T YOU AMERICANS LEARN ITALIAN BEFORE YOU COME HERE?!?! I replied: "I was busy learning sign language. (*gesture) Do you know that one you arrogant cu#t muscle?!" I don't use such harsh language, and you wouldn't think I would by my appearance. The guy next to me was so shocked and mid-laughter spat out his beverage onto the guy's white shirt. The people around were in tears. They witnessed the abuse by this foul individual and made this my best/worst restaurant experience ever. Now the rating is so high because the pizza was actually incredible. Perfectly cooked and charred bottom, freshly sliced parmigiano reggiano, bubbling freshly made high-moisture mozzarella, arugula salad on top...amazing. But the service is the worst I have ever experienced in my life. I wouldn't want to attract business to this horrible establishment but the food was good. Pizza Baffetto is amazing, if you don't starve waiting for it! This place has it's own type of pizza. The crust is puffed up: crispy on the outside and the right kind of doughy inside. It thins out towards the middle and becomes soggy in the middle. I swear it's heaven. I tried several things on their menu; what doesn't disappoint is their Pizza Baffetto. Duh, right? Having lived in many large cities around the world, I have had my share of pizzas. New York pizzas, Chicago pizzas, North American's rendition of "Italian pizza", brick oven pizzas of all sorts, gourmet pizzas from celebrated chefs, pizzas in Asia (eww).... You could be put off by the simple, look of the Da Baffetto and the crowds that appear 20 person-deep on any given night. Even when the pizza arrives at your table, you may remain unimpressed. BUT, the beauty of the pizzas at Da Baffetto is in the simplicity of the ingredients that really bring the delicious crust to life. I went with "Da Baffetto" namesake pizza and thought it was delicious. Sure, maybe its in many "guide books", but it is is in many guidebooks for a delicious reason! Tips: Open until quite late. Da Baffetto can accommodate large groups and will direct you to a back corridor (leading to perhaps a second venue). Follow the man with the loud voice and presumably your huge party will be fed! Locals get their take-out here. And perhaps, if you don't want to wait for a table, it's the way to try this restaurant's pizza. The only reason why Da Baffetto might have rushed, rude service is due to the lines of loyal tourists, Romans and students who enjoy it here. It's rustic, it's old school - but it hasn't gone totally tourst-y here yet. It also won't break the bank, either. In the summer on a weekend night, there will be lines. The staff is so rushed that they understandably won't bend over backwards to pamper you. You're also buying a pretty inexpensive pizza compared to other places near Piazza Navona, so don't expect Michelin guide service, either. read more

We came here after watching a programme by the Japanese TV, that recommended this place highly. Since I'd wanted to eat great pizza on my B-Day, we chose Da Baffetto. The pizza itself was just average, tasty but nothing special (the crust was burnt on its edge). Now what really made this place the most unpleasant eating experience in Rome was the rude staff. First, we had to wait for the menu for about 15 mins, although the staff were standing behind chatting, smoking and (one of them) biting his nails. Second, after ordering pizza and a carafe of wine, it seemed they wanted us to leave quickly after eating, even if we still had the wine. Afterall, we were there no longer than 40 mins in total. When paying, they brought a receipt with the right prices, but tried to tell us, that there'd been a mistake and the pizza was 2€ plus, so we asked them to show us the menu again, which they refused and said it was ok. Overall, unfortunately I didn't understand how so many customers here are satisfied. I'm usually not the one who wants to complain, but this experience really upset us a lot. read more

Knowing that I would be in Rome for a couple days, I knew that a trip to Da Baffetto was an inevitability. On our first night in the Eternal City, after a long day of traveling, a little simple comfort food and a bottle of wine sounded perfect. First, the pizza. I'm a fan of this style: thin crust, not to many extras, quality ingredients. It certainly was a very good pizza. It's not the best that I have ever had, but it was very good. My wife had the margherita, I had mine with zucchini flowers. The prices, especially being in Rome's Centro neighborhood, are excellent. The service is efficient, to put it plainly. If you are in Rome, you already know that service is very curt. The multi-lingual menu (which comes in several different languages) makes ordering very simple. But all in all, my experience at Da Baffetto was exactly what I thought it would be. I would recommend that you get there when they open for dinner (at 18:30) if you want a table. By the time we were finished with our meal there was a line of about 20 people in the street. Recommend! I'd give 3.5 stars if I could. read more
