I would have loved to give this place 5 stars, because you can depend on them to have any game on,…read moreand they have a great beer selection, but due to the arrogance of the bouncers I likely won't be back. I had a reservation for a game and was given a booth. My boyfriend arrived a few minutes, and he should have been able to get in with no problem since we had a reservation, but the bouncer refused to let a single person in due to full capacity. I had an empty seat open in front of me and already ordered our food for the game, so I told this to the bouncer. However, he avoided eye contact as he told me to find a manager. The manager, in fairness, was very nice and he told the bouncer to finally let my boyfriend in. This whole ordeal unfortunately took a half hour, and our food got cold.

Have been going to the Woolshed for about 7 years to watch NFL on Sundays and always loved this…read morespot. It was always fantastic until the change of ownership in 2025. Now the bar is understaffed, they don't have the same selection of drinks, and the food has become inedible. Tried two dishes and both arrived cold. The sauces are tasteless and you can tell they are trying to pinch every penny out of the place. The new owners have taken what was Dublin's best sports bar and turned it into a place to avoid. If you like hot wings and good service, sadly, you'll have to go somewhere else.

Kavanagh's is a real local's pub. Good craic and great conversations on any night of the week, but…read morenot quite the place to head if you're up for a rip-snorting jolly old time dancing on tabletops. Get to know the barflies of the Marino/Fairview area over a pint or two of the dark stuff (heaven forbid you order wine in this establishment, it's not the done thing! Believe me, I've tried and was severely berated for it!) They also have an ever changing assortment of Irish pub meals... try the salmon or the Irish stew, made with 'real' Irish beef. The bar tenders are very observant and will remember every drink you've ever ordered in the place. And that is a warning. Kavanagh's is generally a bit of an old man's and tradies' kinda pub, but due to its proximity to Drumcondra is always busy before a match at Croker. Pop in for a pint if you happen to be in the area.

The pub is basically split into two separate areas, accessed via different doors, and a corridor at…read morethe rear of the building. There is the Lounge, which serves food, and is more comfortable, and the Bar, which has a number of TV's, including a very large projector, with all of them showing sports. Sports bars are not my thang (yip, purposely spelt that way), so I use to go the lounge quite a lot (lived around the corner from Kavanaghs for a year). There was always a good atmosphere, and very good service. Had some great chats, and made some friends there too. Not a young crowd, although saying that, there were often groups of late 20's/30 somethings in for a few drinks or glasses of wine (they have a decent wine menu btw). There is also a bus stop very close by, with about 6 buses passing by, all going into town along the Malahide road, so as a spot for a quite drink before a night out, it's very good. Not much sunlight makes it into the building, so I would not propose it as a sunny day spot... dark winter nights, perfect:-)
