Loved it!!! Great place for live music, friendly chats and snooker! Met some great folks!!

Whelans. Button Factory. The Academy. While these places may play rock music over the course of an evening, they aren't really rock music places. Whelans may have the slightest of rocker elements, but it is mainly for cool indie kids, while The Academy caters to indie kids and (God help us) emos. For a real, proper, dyed in the wool moper-experience in a nightclub, Fibbers on Parnell St is the only place to head. Fibbers play heavy metal, and not just one Metallica song slotted in over the course of the night like Whelans might do, but for pretty much the entire night. And they don't do it in a sort of Spinal Tap, ironic way like "Wow, those guys are in such an adolescent state of arrested development, so much so that it's cool". No Fibbers, and their patrons, actually listen to heavy metal under the delusion that it is aurally a pleasant experience. Nutters. For the men folk at Fibbers, long hair and beards is the order of the day. For the women... Well, as everyone knows, most girls will have outgrown the ridiculous metal affectation by the time they are eighteen or so, so there are very few women. And why would they want to go and mosh with a load of unwashed men with weird organisms growing in their unkempt beards? All this being said, Fibbers isn't the worst spot in the world. The drink is cheap (€2 on Mondays), and the music certainly makes a change from anywhere else in town. Just don't go if you want to pull, as the place is a complete sausage-fest (although if you go showered and well groomed, you will have a leg up on most of the competition). So, if you want something completely different for a night out, head to Fibbers, particularly if it's a Monday. Better yet, wear your Britney t-shirt there.

This place has a grouse (that's ocker for great) beer garden, plays sweet rock tunes and serves great beers via the friendly banter of happy bar staff. Also has a band room downstairs! Even someone from the land of beer and beer gardens (Australia in layman's terms) like me was thoroughly impressed by the layout. 5/5 would drink at again (or even a third time today!) Backs onto Murray's and another bar for the beer garden. Murray's does a wider variety of food but alas no metal and the other bar has some groovy craft beers. So all together it's a killer combo.

Fibbers is the one stronghold of old-school metal and no-frills rock in Dublin, and keeps going for I don't know how many years now. Besides serving as a live venue with shows on Fridays and Saturdays, it also has a late bar license that keeps it open even on Sundays until 3 in the morning. Plus the occasional drinking promotion. On Thursdays it's 3 € per pint, with a 5 € cover charge at the door after 8 PM. Disclaimer: this one is about tattoos, long hairs, drinking shots and rocking out loud. It stinks. It is full of bearded people and the odd tourist group looking for action on a Sunday night. Don't expect a) food, b) good manners or c) clean toilets. But do expect to meet some famous rock musicians (Korn, Machine Head and Down amongst others) for their aftershowparty here.

You don't know what the hell this place is, but once you're inside, it's a gem. Hacienda Bar is a speakeasy and dive bar. Yes, you ring a doorbell to this place and the owner, Shay asks you a few questions, like how many are in your party and do you know anyone inside the bar. I was let in on a Friday night and had no idea what to expect. The place was dark inside and small. There were pool tables and seats all around the side and a few high tops at the bar and a booth area. Much of those seats were reserved where the bar area is. I was able to snag a seat at this busy bar. No food here. Just drinks. Order what's local. I had a local ale and a Guinness (of course), and enjoyed the company here. I met a bunch of locals and since this place is so casual and laidback, it was a fun time. Hacienda Bar is known as a secret bar in Dublin yet all the celebrities find out about it. Shay has photos of all the famous peeps that have set foot here and it's been known that Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce and her dancers came here after the Eras Tour and danced the night away. If you find yourself in Dublin, find Hacienda Bar and have yourself a beer or two and hang with the locals.

Joxers is just one of those places you'll either love or hate... This place reminds a bit of Luke Kelly, its a bit rough around the edges, a bit rebellious, not some where you'd bring your granny to see, but sums up what Dublin is and it is truly one of a kind!! (although it is owned by a Kerry-man as can be seen by the exterior!) First off i have to mention this is a proper inner-city 'does what it says on the tin' Dublin pub, that gives modern Ireland the finger!!! You wont find the celtic tiger roaring in here, to be honest its a bit of a dive bar, nor will you be expected to pay 5 or 6euro a pint. The regulars are mainly local aul-lads (from the nearby flats) that live for their few pint, they are salt of the earth people and characters to say the least, and dont be alarmed if you find a few having a sneaky fag down the back, its a bit of given in this place!! if you planning on visiting joxers, it is well worth going on a sunday afternoon as there is a fantastic traditional group playing from 12pm, a raging open fire, and porter flying like theres no tomorrow... **in my eyes this pub gets 5 stars everytime, (good guinness, pool table, large screen for matches, big open fire, bita atmosphere, decent music, smoking ban???) but it is not a going to be for everyone and for those i will say stick to Temple Bar...

The World's End is a very authentic Irish Pub, in the very authentic Irish town of Kilkenny, with a cast of VERY colorful regulars. Think Cheers, but SOAKED in at least 10x more alcohol. The front entrance has a little diner feel to it, but all the action happens in the back bar through another set of doors. We walked in at 3 in the afternoon with full intentions of 1 drink and a quick bite...but that all changed when the bartender and locals heard our accent. Clearly not Irish. Before long, everybody was chatting us up, asking where we're from, our plans in Ireland, offering us drinks, pouring us drinks, offering us more drinks. I'm pretty sure we're now Facebook friends with a few of them. One of the locals, fascinated that we're from California, stuffed a bunch of change in the jukebox and selected every song about or with the word California in it. We stayed for at least two hours, half of it listening to the likes of California Girls, Hotel California, California Love, & It Never Rains in Southern California. Good times.
